 Nicolai "Servo" DakariNicolai stood before the steamy mirror - a bit unnerved by the past several minutes. Since he rarely got to bathe in an official fashion, the man made it a point to try and relax his weary body when he did. First attending to the actual cleaning of his body in a hurried shower before switching the limitless hot water of the hotel room to a tub full of fresh, hot water once his bathing ritual was completed. From there it was a matter of mundane relaxation, his head whirling through the next phase of his plan while his body continued to soak, ebbing away the pain from several months of continuous travel. Certainly he took the time to clean himself regularly - people with a foul odor or that were too unkempt were easy to spot. But a true bath was an oddity he seldom got to enjoy. Unfortunately for Nicolai, even on the days like this where he could enjoy such a luxury, there was still the matter of dealing with Flux and her shenanigans. His eyes had been closed when the door silently slipped open to reveal a rather pretty girl, sporting only a towel. The redhead prided himself on his ability to detect his surroundings accurately so in a way he should have been proud of the ditto for sneaking upon him. By the time the soft article had dropped to the floor, alerting him of a presence and causing his eyes to shoot open - Flux was already beaming down at him in her very nude, very human form. "Absolutely not. Go away until it is your turn." cleaning himself in a river amongst his Pokemon was one thing - he wasn't exactly shy. But Flux seemed to get some type of sadistic joy in occasionally assuming her human form and attempting to get a little closer than needed to him- a shift that would normally have included false clothes were it not for the fact that he had trained his ditto to also assume several naked humanoid forms for when real clothes were a requirement. Sometimes infiltration required a handshake or ran the risk of someone patting her on the shoulder. In these cases of physical contact, the ditto came up short. No Ditto he was aware of could emulate the texture of inanimate objects. Flux's wide grin faltered a moment as her eyes narrowed on her human, one of the legss she now possessed slipping over into the steaming water and bringing the expression right back at its touch. This was an irritation Nick wouldn't have stood for in any of his other Pokemon. But there was something about the ditto. It was useful but in a way, it was slightly more than that as well. Still, his scowl deepened as she shot him one last look. She had seen his assessment even without words and knew that she could get away with such a thing. So the ditto, in the form of a brunette with curly hair slipped into the tub opposite him before he could raise any additional arguments, slipping down almost to her neck so that their knees bounced against one another. "It feels so nice in here." She shivered slightly, heaving a sigh of relief even while her trainer stared her down in annoyance. Flux had just begun to play with the water, splashing bits of it gently against herself when Nicolai realized his patience for this was growing thin. In one fluid motion, he was standing, glaring down at the ditto who only looked up at him with what he had to give credit as being one of the best-feigned looks of innocent sorrow he had ever seen. As he stepped over the lip of the tub he felt a hand reach out and take his forearm, Flux looking back at him with a question on her face that he couldn't even begin to comprehend. "That's enough. Enjoy your bath Flux." He stated in a commanding tone, the fingers slowly slipping away as Flux turned her gaze to the water beneath her that had suddenly gone down in level and didn't seem quite as much fun anymore. With his recollection complete, Nick wiped some of the steam from the mirror he had been standing in front of, a towel wrapped around his waist while he continued to observe his own body. For a man as...well traveled as himself, he found his physical condition to be quite admirable. Sure he was a bit leaner than he needed to be - living in the forest with less than healthy meals would do that, but on the whole, he was content. Some people would certainly claim that the strange redheaded male in the black outfit had too many small scars - or too many scars in general really. But the more he looked at the nicks and paled flesh, the more he realized how lucky he really was. For a man in his line of work, he had a near 'normal' amount of imperfections on his flesh. Or at least that was what he thought anyway. With his observations completed, he stepped back out into the cool air conditioning of the main room and sighed, looking at the outfit laying on his bed. The special forces uniform was not easily damaged or dirtied. It was built for extended wearing in the worst of conditions. Even still, it was clear that the advanced article of clothing would take a bit more clean up than his person had required. Nicolai lifted the interwoven fabric of the left arm, noting the damaged bits of electronic wiring running down it. Once upon a time this had been more than just a piece of clothing. It had been a weapon. The entire suit in fact had been dangerous. By the time he had dawned it however most of the nifty gadgets sown in had been damaged or destroyed outright. One day he would have it repaired. One day. For now, however? It needed to be cleaned. Nicolai "Servo" DakariFor the first time in... A long time, Nicolai felt the beginnings of what he knew to be an embarrassment. He had nothing to be ashamed of truthfully, and the man knew that, but some habits caused immediate discomfort when interrupted. Such was the case as he made his way down the street in attire that naturally he would have preferred death to under normal circumstances. He wasn't ugly by any means, and he felt no shyness in his physical form. But wearing the black special operations uniform for years now with very little deviation from it meant that any time he was in clothes that didn't consist for the all-black combat attire with black boots, he felt a touch out of sorts. Every step in the flimsy flip-flops caused him to wince just a bit when they slapped against the heels of his feet. Every block or so he also found himself tugging at the T-shirt he wore that Nicolai should have been proud to discover clung to him rather flatteringly. Sure it accented his chest and lean stomach but that was the type of thing that he didn't care for. He wasn't a show-off. By the time he had finally completed his walk to several different stores and found himself standing back outside the only dry-cleaning facility willing to wash such an odd piece of technical attire, Nick was exhausted, mentally of course - physically this was little more than a leisurely stroll given how he lived in the woods. Glancing down, the man tugged on the shorts he wore that basically screamed 'tourist' before rolling his shoulders once more in an attempt to reposition the shirt. The sooner he got his clothing back, the better. "Hello, I'm here to pick up my dry cleaning order." He stated calmly, handing the ticket to the clerk who looked a touch confused, her eyes scanning the ticket, then nick, then the ticket again before she ed a skeptical eyebrow at him. "Sir - I remember your order and I gave it to you about ten minutes ago. There is no way I would forget washing...whatever gizmo that thing was supposed to be." Most people would have been seen this as a joke, and the ones who hadn't would have been immediately furious - assuming that the clerk had given away their clothing to someone else... And while he could have argued that she hadn't verified the ticket, he had a suspicion of what was happening already. With a forced smile, Nicolai tapped the side of his head a few times and feigned a look of sheepishness. "My apologies ma'am. I have a mental condition that causes lapses in short term memory. This happens quite a bit. Could you tell me which way I went when I left?" The woman, at first confused, and then skeptical once more - looked Nick up and down for several seconds. He was exactly the man who had taken the suit... And even if he wasn't, calling someone out on a mental disorder could get very tricky, very fast. With a quick hand gesture, she pointed out of the store across the street to a nearby park, explaining he had walked down one of the foot trails not long ago, practically dancing along as he had gone. The redhead's eyes twitched once as she explained his peculiar walking fashion before he nodded, waving her off and starting across the street and down that very same path. This was not a new experience for him. In fact, his suspicions were quickly growing more and more accurate by the minute. The only issue this time was that the only Pokeball on his belt was the one he never let leave his side - the one containing a dormant Pokemon unable to raise its head, let alone battle. "Game on..." Knowing full well of the possibility that lay before him. This was not the first time he had 'shown up' and left not long before actually showing up to an occasion. At least this time it didn't involve a police officer or some other authority figure during an operation. That meant perhaps this time there would be less blood from the stranger. Nicolai "Servo" DakariAs he walked down the path cautiously, he dearly wished that he had brought along at least one of his Pokemon. Flux was still in human form and had been bathing when he left. The little Ditto didn't seem at all interested in coming with him, which he would have found odd had he the sense to understand her feelings were hurt. Quanta had been moving its head around the room quickly, eyes darting back and forth in what Nick knew was a systems check for about the fourth time - that one would be useless as long as it was sick with whatever strange illness had befallen it. With a sigh, he realized even the mundane Torch- "Mudkip!" He snapped to himself in annoyance. He was a man of precision! So why was separating the Pokemon he was supposed to have gotten from the one that he received so difficult?! The man in shorts, a T-shirt, and flip-flops had little time to ponder his anger before a glint of movement caught his attention, causing him to snap to attention just in time to avoid what he thought was a throwing dagger. He had tossed himself aside, daring a quick glance behind him to find that what he had been sure was a knife stuck to a tree was nowhere to be found. "Quick as a cat! Meow!" The voice that he heard caused Nick to flinch, but otherwise soften his body, rising to a standing position and heaving yet another sigh as he began to wipe was he wasn't even sure was real dirt from his clothing. "This again? Really?" He offered, finally spotting a trail of strange mist from behind a tree. No sooner had he identified it than the strange, pig-like Pokemon floated out from around the side of its hiding spot and giggled at him. The voice he'd heard, much like the dagger he thought he saw - were all in his head. He knew of this Pokemon, and not just from information read in books and online. No. This was exactly what he had expected the moment the clerk had explained the fate of his uniform. "I'm no Mudkip. But yes - this AGAIN, really." With his opponent in front of him, the redhead began to close the gap between the two of them slowly. He eyed the Musharna with a bit of skepticism but little fear. Why should he? As regular as their meetings had once been, the thing had never actually attacked him. Caused the man a great deal of stress during operations from time to time, but never a direct attack. With a look on his face that said it all, the Pokemon whirled about in a small circle, seemingly unbothered by both the unspoken question and irritation on the human's face. This had been their dance for nearly a decade now. He would ask why she was here, she would ignore him and ask several questions of her own - and then, when he finally gave in and answered her, she would vanish. He had considered running in the past but... If his deductions were correct he was already asleep - or at least entranced. He had tried the tactic before and it never really ended well for him. That wasn't to say the Masharna always came out on top though. "So - We meet again. And this time you had the sense to take my uniform. I thought for sure our last encounter scared you off for good. I hope the brain damage isn't a lingering issue." He chuckled, crossing his arms and forcing a toothy grin that caused the Psychic Pokemon to half squeal, half hiss at him. For all of this Pokemon's cunning, Nick had once obtained a Psychic Pokemon of his own that warned him of its approach. That time - the little Piggy had walked into a trap that ended with a million volts of electricity running through its brain before retreating. As the creature eyed his smug expression - she heavily contemplated eating some of his dreams. That would show him! After a moment her anger faltered, however, giving way to grim resolve. "That isn't why I took your outfit, stupid." She countered with a mutter, floating aside to reveal the uniform in question, perfectly cleaned and... Also looking slightly repaired? The development caused him to squint at the garment as it hung from a tree, a new expression of confusion coming over him. It was entirely possible he was hallucinating this but something in his gut told the man this was not the case. "I came here to ask why you persist Nick. And to ask you to-" "Stop what I'm doing and turn back to a better path while I can, yeah yeah - I've heard this joke already, why the hell did you fix my suit if you wanted me to quit?" If the Masharna was bothered by being cut off, it didn't show any more than his previous statements had. No, she had figured this would be the case. He never listened. That only made the instructions given by her trainer even more difficult to follow. With a groan, the Pokemon floated a bit higher into the air and stare down at Nick quietly for several moments before nodding to the suit. In response, he glanced at the uniform once more skeptically. It was also possible that if this wasn't a hallucination that it was a trap. What better way to punish him for shocking her a few years ago than to rig the suit to electrify him the moment he put it on? No. Again, something in his brain told him this was not the case. So, ever so carefully, the redhead stepped beneath the irritating mental intruder and took hold of the hanging uniform, carefully removing it from the branch on which it hung and beginning to remove his current outfit in favor of the one he preferred to anything and everything else. His father's Original Rocket operations, special enforcer attire. "Hurry up, I don't have long and we need to talk." The Masharna warned as he began to slip into the familiar material of his outfit. If this was a trap, or the Masharna intended to end his life somehow today - at least he would die knowing his outfit was clean as a whistle. Nicolai "Servo" DakariOnce Nicolai was suited up, he patted the uniform down, noting the cables along the arm with the thicker glove had been repaired... immaculately. There was no way a Pokemon had managed this level of craftsmanship, especially not one lacking fingers. Long ago - Nicolai had suspected that this Masharna was an envoy of the Mewtwo he had come into contact with several times, sent to deter him from the task of obtaining the creature and using it for his mission. Yet, through slow observation, the redhead had eventually ruled that out - or at least put it into the category of unlikely. Today's mysterious repair of his suit only pushed home his new suspicion further and it showed in the way he took to staring skeptically at the Psychic Pokemon who only floated a little higher as if attempting to stay as far away from that damned glove Nick had begun to flex repeatedly as possible. With a toothy grin, he held out his palm to the Masharna and wiggled his fingers. "What's wrong? Don't you know it's not polite to ignore a handshake?" He knew how painful the shock had been for the little floating pig the last time they had encountered one another. In fact - it was that very shock that had finally put the damaged 'stun' device out of commission. "Very funny Nicolai. Do you write your own material?" The Pokemon asked sarcastically, a hint of violence in the creature. Had the Masharna been here of its own devices- she would have slumped this particular human over and begun instilling nightmares immediately. With a squealing sigh, however, the Pokemon relented, and merely shook her head - some of the strange mist pouring from it shaking along with it. "I am not here to play games with you today - Luckily for you. Don't think I didn't notice you left your bodyguards at the hotel." The statement had been meant to rattle Nicolai - to show him that she knew his every move... So when the man ed an eyebrow and snorted instead, she flushed in both annoyance and fear herself. She was giving away too much information! This is why her trainer drilled keeping calm into her so often! Now he knew to be more on guard than he already was. This caused the Masharna to flinch. The last time he had been that on guard she had nearly been captured after an electric shock. "So tell me then. Why are you here? Finally going to tell me who commands you?" Placing both hands on his hips, the man leaned forward a bit, goading the Pokemon into spilling more potential secrets. The floating Pig had absolutely no intention of messing this up further, however. Instead she squealed once again, this time softly before floating around behind a tree and returning with something peculiar in her mouth. "You wish that were the case. You know why I'm here. To put you on the right path. To stop you from..." She trailed off, shuddering. She had seen Nicolai's dreams before and they caused a tremendous amount of pain. Sometimes being psychic was a burden in itself - and the redhead before her took that to an entirely different level with the horror he intended to cause. Without so much as another word, she spat the item down, the case with the CD inside clattering to the ground and causing the Masharna to whimper. She hadn't meant to drop it so abruptly. If it was damaged her trainer would be hard-pressed to make another. Shaking the thoughts away she glanced down to spot the man already hunched over, CD in hand as he turned it over and began to inspect the item. His motion, as well as his breathing, stopped when he spotted the small R printed on the back of the casing. This was an encrypted Rocket file drive. The man's mouth opened and then closed several times - no words actually coming from his throat while he pondered what it was that he had been given. These CD's contained information accessible only to admins usually. 'Or...' He thought, eyes widening just a touch as the alternative struck him, shaking the redhead from his revere and causing his eyes to dart up with questions to a Masharna that was no longer there. Nick blinked a few times, noting that the sun was nearly setting. Of course, it was, he had been in a dream so the world for him had stopped just the way it had been when he entered the trance. Squeezing his fingers along the case, he finally released the breath that he had been holding unintentionally even as a squeal could be heard somewhere further within the forest. He knew better than to try and chase the creature - never once had he been able to capture it once it decided their conversations were over. So instead he stood, sparing one last look down at the case in his hand and furrowing his brow. The things found on these CD's were never good. They always contained dark and painful information... Such as the interworkings of the mewtwo project from the Kanto region. He swallowed, half hoping that was exactly what he held even while the other half of him never wanted to see that place again, even in photos. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Nick stowed the CD case into a pocket along his belt and flexed the gloved fingers on his hand once more before proceeding back to the hotel. He needed a computer now, great. Just when Petalburg City crested on the horizon, a Marill and a Zigzagoon leaped out and blocked their path. "Whoa!" Kaiser yelped, stumbling backwards to avoid stepping on them. "Hey, watch it!"
The wild Pokemon didn't appear repentant in the slightest. In fact, they were advancing towards Kaiser and her team with a battle-ready stance, the Marill grinning as if she'd already won and the Zigzagoon baring his teeth. Their eyes were locked on the satchel Kaiser had slung over her shoulder, although she was pretty sure it wasn't exuding the mouthwatering scent of leftovers anymore.
"Um, I feel kinda dumb for asking, but is this a mugging?" Kaiser said as if she was expecting the wild Pokemon to answer. The Marill did respond, although in the form of a spray of water aimed at Nephelie instead of words. She lurched out of the way just in the nick of time, her wings fluttering so hard it seemed she might fly.
Kaiser gulped. "Okay, Orville, now would be a good time to show us your stuff."
< Orville, > the Murkrow said with a roll of his eyes, launching himself off Kaiser's shoulder.

Orville dove towards the Zigzagoon, who looked to be the stronger of his two opponents, and barraged him with wings suffused with dark energy. Kaiser gaped and Nephelie cheered as the Pursuit knocked the Zigzagoon out straight away, sending him rolling across the grass like a soccer ball gone astray.
"It's actually kind of annoying how strong he is," Kaiser mumbled, shaking her head. Orville turned his head as he landed on the ground and smirked at her, if such a thing was possible with a beak. He knew all too well what an asset he was to her team. Kaiser shuddered to think of what bribes he might demand from her the next time she asked him to battle.
The Marill wasn't grinning anymore. With a scowl unbefitting of such a cute creature, she fell back into a more defensive stance. Recognizing this as a status move, Kaiser said, "Use Haze."
Orville gave a disapproving caw. This, at least, Kaiser was able to understand. "I know you could just one-shot her, but I want to try out a bunch of different moves, okay? Humor me."
With an exaggerated sigh, Orville flapped his wings and churned the air around him into a suffocating Haze. The Marill shivered, reflexively uncurling, and then slung a Haze-chilled Water Gun at Orville. He sputtered as it hit his beak full-on.
"You good?" Kaiser asked, trying not to sound too concerned. Orville nodded as he shook his feathers dry, more annoyed than hurt. "Alright then. Try Astonish."
< Kaiser! > Orville suddenly screeched, his voice emerging as a ghastly shock wave. The Marill flinched as if shot through with fear. Kaiser kind of pitied her. Orville reared back to deliver his finishing move, but Kaiser held her hand up.
"That's enough, Orville. I was planning to capture a Pokemon near Petalburg anyway," Kaiser said, withdrawing an empty Pokeball from her satchel. She tossed it experimentally at the Marill, unsure of how she was meant to use it. It sailed in a lazy arc overhead and just barely touched the Marill's tail. Orville rolled his eyes.
The Marill disappeared into the Pokeball. It shook once, twice, thrice...

Kaiser picked up the newly occupied Pokeball and examined the silhouette flickering within. "Guess we got ourselves a new teammate," she said as Nephelie and Orville gathered around, the former openly curious and the latter rather indifferent. "Good work, Orville."
< Orville, > the Murkrow cawed, fluttering back onto Kaiser's shoulder. She winced as his talons sank into the meat of her shoulder. That was going to leave marks, not to mention holes in the fabric.
Kaiser glanced between the Pokeball in her hand and the unconscious Zigzagoon on the grass. She had thought she would be relieved to finish the first half of Professor Birch's research task, but the outcome of the battle left a bad taste in her mouth. It was one thing to defeat a wild Pokemon and leave them to recover later on, and quite another to capture a wild Pokemon possibly against their will, ripping them from their natural habitat. She knew it must be a common practice—how else did trainers fill up their teams?—but now that she'd done so herself, she was once again starting to have doubts about her current career track.
A ranger didn't have to do what she just did. A ranger left the environment better than they found it, always.
"Technically we just have to catch two Pokemon," Kaiser said, recalling the exact wording of her research task. "We don't have to keep them. So let's heal her up and then think about what we're going to do with her next."

After spraying Orville with a few Potions, Kaiser pressed the button on the Marill's Pokeball with one hand and readied her last Potion with the other. The Marill tumbled out in a flash of red light, assuming a battle stance as if she intended to pick up where she left off. Despite her recent defeat, it seemed that she still had plenty of fighting spirit. Kaiser would admire that if the Marill's ire weren't aimed straight at her.
Kaiser waved the Potion bottle to show that she meant no harm. "Listen, I know we just battled, but if you could just let me—ack!"
A Water Gun knocked the Potion right out of her hand. With a prideful huff, the Marill spun around and, to Kaiser's utter surprise, curled up into a ball. She pedaled her back paws hard enough to launch her towards the eastern part of the city, where the hills overlooked the ocean to the west.
Kaiser hurriedly grabbed the Potion from off the ground. "Déjà vu," she said as she watched the Marill roll out of sight. Yesterday, Nephelie had also made a break for it as soon as she was released from her Pokeball. The Marill was quick, but the Torchic had been quicker.
"Nephelie, you're the fastest one on the team." Which wasn't saying much, considering that the team consisted of three Pokemon including Nephelie, but still. "Follow her, but don't catch up to her or stop her. Just stay a couple paces behind. I want to see where she's going."
With a sparkle in her eye, Nephelie took off in the Marill's direction. She did enjoy a good chase. "Orville, can you fly overhead and keep track of where they're headed?" Kaiser then said, which was met with an expectant silence. She sighed. "I'll find a way to pay you back for it, okay? Just do me this one favor."
< Nephelie, > the Murkrow begrudgingly said, which was a new addition to his vocabulary. He went ahead and Kaiser followed.

The Marill, Nephelie, and Orville were faster than Kaiser, but she was eventually able to catch up with them since Orville was circling right overhead. They were gathered just outside of the city, where the streets gave way to hills. A nearby stream fed into the ocean shimmering ahead. The Marill was staring into a hole in the ground which no doubt was the entrance of a burrow, her back turned to a concerned Nephelie. It was impossible to tell what she was thinking about at the moment, but at least she wasn't rolling away anymore.
"Hey," Kaiser said, to which the Marill startled. She turned around, trying to make a stern face, but her eyes were brimming with tears. Kaiser stared at her, dumbfounded by her sudden change in mood. "What happened? Is it because I captured you? I can release you if you really want. I was kind of planning on it anyway."
Though the Marill seemed somewhat appeased by that, she was still in visible distress. She kept looking inside the burrow as if she expected someone to emerge any time now. After a minute or so of this, she turned once more and disappeared within.
Just when Kaiser thought she wouldn't come out again, she returned with her zigzag tail wrapped around a Berry Pot.

Kaiser might not be experienced with Pokemon, but she knew her way around a Berry Pot from her time volunteering in the school gardening club. This Berry Pot had seen better days, with its chipped paint and dusty plastic covering, but it was still perfectly serviceable. There was nothing growing within, though. In fact, there was nothing at all aside from a few recent berry stains.
The Marill shook the Berry Pot with her tail, at once angry and dismayed. "Um, okay," Kaiser said, unsure of what was being asked of her. "Is that important to you? Can I get a better look?"
Though the Marill didn't loosen her grip on it, she moved close enough to Kaiser for her to examine it in detail. At the bottom of the Berry Pot were faint claw marks, as well as a few bristly furs alternating between brown and cream in color. It wasn't hard to recall where she'd seen that fur before.
"That Zigzagoon," Kaiser said, surveying the burrow entrance once more. Now that she knew what she was looking for, she found a trail of fresh\ Zigzagoon pawprints leading both in and out of the burrow. She glanced back at the Marill. "You were living with him?"
The Marill nodded. "Okay, so what? You want to give this Berry Pot to him?"
The Marill thumped her foot, her frown deepening. Kaiser held her hands up in surrender, racking her brain for any scraps of information regarding the Zigzagoon. He not only worked with the Marill to mug trainers but also apparently lived with her. After Kaiser managed to catch the Marill, he had been nowhere to be found. Possibly he regained conscious in the latter half of the battle and then fled while Kaiser was still distracted.
An idea took hold. "Have you been keeping berries and other things in here?" Kaiser asked slowly, in the tone of one building up to some grand revelation.
Nod. "Things you stole from trainers?"
The Marill nodded again, lacking the grace to look sheepish. It was time for the final nail in the coffin. "And do you think the Zigzagoon took them and left because he knew you weren't going to come stop him in time?"
Here the Marill fell silent. That told her more than words could have. "That's such a dick move. I'm sorry," Kaiser said with genuine, if awkward sympathy. The Marill may have trusted the Zigzagoon, but it seemed he had only been looking out for himself.
At this point it might have been best for Kaiser to release the Marill and go on with her life. Instead she set the Marill's Pokeball on the ground, took a deep breath, and said, "Listen. You teamed up with the Zigzagoon so you'd have each other's back, right? That's the smart thing to do. I understand that, even if he didn't. So you can come join my crew. I'll look out for you and you'll look out for me. Or you can break this Pokeball right now and we'll go our separate ways. Up to you."
The Marill looked at Kaiser, whose face was red with embarrassment and eyes were intense with sincerity. She looked at the Pokeball, liable to break with a single well-aimed Water Gun. She looked at Orville, who was grooming his feathers indifferently, and Nephelie, who was excitedly bouncing on her toes. She looked at the shining sea, the burrow, the Berry Pot.
And she nudged the Pokeball back onto Kaiser's hand.
"Welcome aboard, Maisy," Kaiser said, voicing the first name that popped inside her head. She took a Potion from her satchel. "Now will you please let me heal you already?"

"That a Marill you got there?"
An empty Potion bottle in hand, Kaiser turned to see a girl her age clad in a sleek black wetsuit. She had olive skin, rich blue eyes, and a floral-patterned surfboard that she carried under her arm. A Mudkip was tottering by her side. They were both wet. Nephelie ran up to the Mudkip as if she were greeting an old friend while Kaiser gave a friendly nod to the girl.
"Just caught her," Kaiser said, glancing at Maisy. She was regarding the stranger and her Pokemon with evident disinterest, possibly because neither were holding a satchel. "I guess you know your Water types."
"Sure do. I'm something of a specialist," the girl said, fondly gazing down at her Mudkip. She and Nephelie were chatting, or at least exchanging chirps and burbles back and forth. "Your Torchic, did you get her from the Lab? I picked my Alya up from there a couple days back."
Kaiser brightened. "Same here! Just yesterday, actually. Nephelie's a handful, but we're making it work. Or, well, we will. Someday."
"Baby steps, that's the way to go." The girl tilted her head, wringing water from her effortlessly wavy hair. "Alya and I, we're getting along swimmingly. Pun intended. We were just heading back after catching some waves."
"Isn't it a bit cold for that?"
"Maybe, but this suit's good for keeping heat in." The girl stepped forward, holding out her hand. "I'm Cobalt, by the way."
Kaiser gave her hand a firm shake. "Kaiser."
"Cool. Wanna battle?"
Nephelie perked up, but Kaiser said to her, "You already had your turn. Right now I want to see what Maisy can do. Maisy?"
Though she gave a grudging huff, Maisy was quick to step in front of her trainer and stare the Mudkip down. Nephelie deflated, but she shuffled over to the sidelines with a cheep of encouragement towards Maisy.
And so the battle began.

Minako Afton The Future Champion Minako entered the pokecenter with ehr Ralts in her hair and her Galiga trotting beside her. She checked in for the night, as she was exausted. She curled up with her Galiga guarding her protectivly as she and her Ralts rested. Since she was already in petalberge, she rentered the pokemon center to collect her first stamp for the event. Elfana Aroway How she could have expected anything but endless trees from a city called Petalburg was anyone's guess. If nothing else, her trip around the world had introduced her to countless species of plants. Botany wasn't her preferred field but she was learning more about it than she had ever hoped to. "So pretty~!" Pantalaimon stared at the scenery with wide eyed wonder. He wished he had wings like Oryx so he could see it all better. Elfana just nodded along but his enthusiasm convinced her to stop at a restaurant with a nice view for lunch. The Turtwig spent more time watching the trees than he did eating. After their meal, they headed to the Pokemon Center. As per usual, she offered her booklet to the nurse and waited for it to be stamped. She was almost glad that things had settled back into the boring pattern of collecting stamps and moving on. Anything was better than dealing with another Legendary. She took her booklet back to the nurse and muttered something that might have been a thank you before leaving. They still had a whole region ahead of them. Elfana Aroway Finally being able to stretch her legs after being stuck on so many different boats was kind of nice. If she ever found herself on a similar adventure she hoped she would have a Pokemon that could fly though. The entire trip would go so much faster if she didn't have to walk from place to place. She glanced over at Oryx, wondering just how large he would be when he evolved. Looking into that would probably be a good idea. She might react negatively to a giant bird. Being prepared would spare Oryx and herself a whole lot of grief. The Rufflet was perched on Walter's shoulder. She reached up and slowly patted his head. Oryx remained as still as he could, fearful that she would panic if he moved. When her arm dropped back down to her side, she didn't feel a need to immediately wash her hands. Elfana considered this a positive sign. Now she needed to work on getting to a point where she could hold him like the rest of her Pokemon.Sinnoh

Sir Galahad was certainly an interesting Pokemon, he had never left the Galar region, and so had never seen such vast oceans as those that surrounded the Hoenn Region. He was good spirited and pleasant, but came off as a little showy at times it seemed since he was new around Emiri and her Pokemon. She didn’t think he was ill tempered at all or meant any harm, but perhaps for his species being considered one of the strongest and most foreboding in the Galar Region, he was used to a sort of climate that wasn’t necessarily consistent with Emiri and her teammates. That aside though, Emiri was sure that he would fit in very well given time, she already felt that he was great company.
Back in the central part of the Region, Emiri and her Pokemon found Petalburg city and were ready to get their next stamp to keep on their path through Hoenn. Emiri knew Petalburg well, both from traveling here before, and from her knowledge of other regions Pokemon Leagues. Petalburg was famous for its leader Norman, truly a formidable leader with his incredible normal type Pokemon. While Emiri stopped into the center after landing, and met with Nurse Joy for her next stamp, Emiri wondered if maybe one day she would get the opportunity to battle with someone as well known as Norman. Brain walked into Petalburg City with a smile on his face. He'd enjoyed walking with Grace and Chase, even if he couldn't understand him. Grace, especially, seemed to enjoy traveling, since she no longer had to worry about her former trainer berating her for being "too weak." She knew that she wasn't all that weak, but she hadn't liked him from the start. He'd only managed to capture her because he'd caught her off guard by throwing a Pokeball at her when she was asleep. She'd not had any choice in the matter, and because she didn't like him, she'd refused to obey him a couple of times, even allowing herself to get knocked out by a Zigzagoon right before she'd met Brian. That had been the last straw for the boy that thought she was his to control, and she was glad she no longer had to worry about him. Brian seemed like a much more interesting trainer, and the fact that he had another Ralts, a normally colored male, convinced her to give him a chance. So far, she hadn't regretted her decision to join his team, and his promise to make her stronger was just the icing on the cake. Brian, unable to tell what Grace was thinking, could tell from the look on her face that she was happier with him, and this, in turn, made him happy, as well.
As they were getting ready to walk into the city limits, a sudden growling caught Brian's attention, and he turned to see a Poochyena standing a short distance behind him. He knew that Poochyena were Dark-types, and based on what he knew of Chase's moves, he couldn't put the male Ralts into battle, since his moves would be next to useless because he didn't have any moves that would cause the Poochyena any damage. That being said, he knew that Grace had a move that would cause quite a bit of damage to it, despite her partial type disadvantage. "Alright, Grace, are ye ready to do this?" he asked, setting both her and Chase on the ground. Seeing her opponent, and how strong it looked, Grace gave Brian a glance, and seeing the determined look on his face gave her the confindence she needed to give a nod and turn to face her opponent. Seeing the Psychic/Fairy-type, the Poochyena gave a slight growl, but didn't attack right away. Instead, it seemed like it was waiting for Grace to move first. "Start it off with Growl," Brian ordered, and Grace immediately let out a cute growl, effectively lowering the Poochyena's attack. Poochyena, not at all happy by this turn of events, used Howl, bringing its attack right back to where it had been at the start. Seeing this, Brian knew that his stat lowering strategy wouldn't work in this battle, so he turned to his backup plan. "Disarming Voice, let's go!" he said. Grace, seeing what he was planning, gave a very small smile, and as the Poochyena got ready to deliver a Tackle, she let out the loudest cry she could, causing the Poochyena to stop and howl in pain before pushing forward with its Tackle attack.
Grace let out a cry of pain as the Tackle hit, doing moderate damage, and without prompting, she let out another Disarming Voice, the only attack she had that was effective against the Poochyena. This turned out to be too much for the Poochyena, and it slumped to the ground, unconscious. Taking a chance, Brian tossed a Pokeball at the Poochyena, and it sucked the Dark-type inside with a flash of red light. Not even a moment later, the Pokeball dinged, and Brian picked it up, then placed Grace and Chase on his shoulders again before heading back to the Pokemon Center to get Grace and his new capture healed. He figured it would be a good idea to call the Professor to let him know his first assignment was a success, so while he was waiting on Nurse Joy to come back with his Pokemon, he sat down at one of the video phones and called the number to the lab.

Brian waited while the phone rang, and when someone picked up, he began to speak. "Hi, may I speak with Professor Birch, please?" he asked. The assistant who picked up told him to hold for a moment, and just a minute later, the Professor's voice came through, as well as a video feed. "Brian, how are you?" the man asked. "I'm doing well, Professor," Brian said, smiling. "I'm just calling to let you know that I've finished my first assignment." "Already?" Birch echoed, surprised. "I'm quite surprised you've finished it so quickly. Most aspiring researchers take a few days before completing the first task I give them." "Let's just say these two were basically asking to be caught," Brian said. "Very well, what two Pokemon have you captured?" the Professor asked. Before Brian could answer, Nurse Joy called for him, telling him his Pokemon were fighting fit, and he momentarily excused himself to collect Poochyena and Grace's Pokeballs before returning to the video phone. "Sorry about that, I had to get my newest capture and another of my team healed," he said, and the Professor waved off his apology. "To answer yer question, I captured a Zigzagoon outside Oldale Town, and a Poochyena right before coming into Petalburg City. Poochyena and Grace were the two I needed to get healed." "Grace?" Birch asked, tilting his head. "That's right, ye didn't know I got two more Pokemon. This is Grace." Having said this, he opened Grace's Pokeball to show the Professor.
As soon as he saw the shiny Ralts, Birch's eyes widened and he looked from Brian to Grace and back. "Do you have any idea how lucky you are, Brian?" he asked. "Trainers the world over have searched for shiny Pokemon without so much as a hint of success, and you managed to capture a shiny Ralts on your first day as a trainer." "Grace actually wasn't wild when I met her," Brian said, making the Professor tilt his head a bit in confusion. "I'd just walked into Oldale Town when I heard an angry voice calling something worthless, and I found a boy, younger than myself, who was Grace's original trainer." "When you say original trainer, do you mean...." Birch asked, and Brian nodded with a frown on his face. "Aye, he released her right in front of me," the younger man said. "He actually told me that he only captured her because she's different and he thought she looked cool. Couple that with the fact that she's not just a shiny, but a shiny Ralts, and he had a Pokemon many trainers would pay Pokemon Hunters large sums of money to acquire." Birch nodded, knowing that Brian was right.
"What many people don't realize is Pokemon have thoughts and feelings of their own," Brian said, and Birch looked at him with slight surprise. "The Ralts line, in particular, are incredibly shy because of their ability to sense emotions, but the boy I met didn't seem to care. I don't think he really understood what a special Pokemon he had, and he let a real diamond get away when he released Grace. Had he stopped to think about what he was doing, and what it truly means to be a trainer, he might have kept Grace. Instead, he decided that because she didn't like him and wouldn't listen, she was of no use to him, despite the fact that she's actually the strongest Pokemon on my team right now in terms of level." The Professor was again surprised. Most trainers, especially those first starting out, hadn't done any research, and this usually led to them washing out as trainers. For those that did their research, like Brian apparently had, they had a much deeper understanding of Pokemon, which often allowed them to form much deeper bonds than the average trainer. Birch was glad to see that Brian was one of those trainers that truly cared about Pokemon, not just his, but from what he'd just said, those belonging to other people, as well as wild Pokemon.
"Well, since you've completed the first task, I think it's time to give you the next one," the Professor said, looking through his papers momentarily. "For your second research task, I'd like you to go and capture two wild Pokemon from two different regions. I know you're planning to take on the Gyms here in Hoenn, so don't worry about completing the task right away. Just have fun and keep me updated on your progress from time to time, alright?" Brian gave a nod and a smile, and he and the Professor said their goodbyes as Brian turned and got up to head out to Rustboro City, stopping by the Rustboro forest on the way to see if he couldn't catch a Shroomish, or perhaps a Slakoth.

Brian was about to walk out of the Pokemon Center and head out to Petalburg Woods when he heard a commotion coming from somewhere nearby, and he went to investigate. What in the world was causing such a ruckus inside the Pokemon Center? Surely a wild Pokemon hadn't somehow gotten trapped in the building. He could just imagine the chaos that would cause. As he rounded a corner, Grace on his shoulder and the rest of his team tucked safely in their Pokeballs, something barrelled into his legs, knocking him onto his rear and causing Grace to jump from his shoulder to his lap. He could see a bit if irritation on the shiny Ralts' face as she prepared to unleash an attack, but he stopped her before she could do so. "Best not to use any attacks inside right now," he said, causing her to look up at him. She knew he was right, but that didn't mean that she had to stand idly by while her new trainer was attacked by some unseen assailant. That being said, they both heard what sounded like a Pokemon's cry, followed by the voice of Nurse Joy, and he got to his feet again, placing Grace back in her spot before walking toward the front desk.
As he reached his destination, he saw a flash of something blue and orange duck around the side of the desk. "There you are, you little scamp!" Nurse Joy said, sounding a little out of breath. A surprised cry came from behind the desk as she lifted a struggling Pokemon onto the desk and fixed it with an annoyed look, which caused it to shrink back a bit. "What am I going to do with you?" Nurse Joy sighed. "You can't go running around here like that. You'll only get yourself or someone else hurt. Oh, I'm sorry, did you need something?" This last question was directed at Brian, who was watching with interest.
"Actually, is there something I can do to help ye?" he asked, indicating the Gible sitting quietly on the desk. "Why is this Gible here? And where is its trainer?" "The little fellow doesn't have a trainer," Nurse Joy said. "He was donated to the Pokemon Center to help us with research into Dragon-types, since Gible are native to Sinnoh, but he's been nothing but trouble since he was brought here a few weeks ago. All he's done is eat, sleep, or run around causing chaos. He's caused a few injuries the way he runs around, and I've caught him trying to bite people and other Pokemon a few times. He needs a strong trainer, but so far, everyone that's come in contact with him has said no, that he'll be too much trouble because he's a Dragon-type."
Brian was silent as he listened to the explanation of how the Gible had come to be in the Pokemon Center, and that Nurse Joy was actively trying to find a trainer for him. He was healthy, Brian could see that from the sheen of his rough skin, but it seemed this one had too much energy for his own good. He needed a way to let that energy out, and being cooped up here in the Pokemon Center wasn't helping. He knew that many trainers didn't have what it would take to train a Dragon-type, much less one as fiesty as this Gible, but he'd always loved a challenge, and this would be an excellent one, if he hoped to take on the Elite Four someday. "If it's alright, Nurse Joy, I'll take him on," he said, causing the Nurse to look at him in surprise. "He's got too much energy to be cooped up inside all day, and ye said yerself that he needs a strong trainer. I'm hoping to take on the League after I beat the gyms, and he'll be a perfect challenge for me."
Nurse Joy looked like she didn't really believe him, but she didn't try to stop him. Seeing her nod, Brian turned his attention to the Gible, who was looking at him with curiosity in his eyes. It seemed the little Dragon/Ground-type was interested in him, seeing as he had a shiny Ralts perched on his shoulder. "Well, Gible, what do ye think?" Brian asked. "Will ye join my team, and help me take on the League?" The thought of battling strong Pokemon someday was like a dream come true for Gible, and he gave a single nod, a spark of determination in his eyes. Brian smiled as he saw this, and he pulled a Pokeball from his belt, holding it out to the Gible. The little Dragon/Ground-type looked at the Pokeball for a moment before pressing his nose against the button, allowing himself to be sucked inside the device, and a ding a few seconds later signified the new capture. "Good luck training him," Nurse Joy said, a smile on her face. "He has the potential to be quite powerful, given the right training. Perhaps you've got what it takes to see that he grows properly."
Brian smiled at the woman, then gave her a nod as he pulled out his Pokedex and pulled up the name function on it. He needed something that would fit Gible's fiery personality, and he had just the right one already in mind. Punching it in, he walked outside and headed toward Petalburg Woods, wondering what kind of new Pokemon he would be able to capture there, if any.

Brian decided not to head to Petalburg Woods just yet, wanting to spend a little time with his team and try to figure out a training regimen for them. He walked just outside the city, then let his team out of their Pokeballs, setting Grace with the others as they looked around for a moment before looking up at him. "Alright, it's time we figured out a training regimen for the six of ye," he said. "I know that some of ye know how to battle, and have done so, but there are two of ye that I haven't seen battle yet, so I need to see what ye can do before I set up the training. Chase, I know that ye only know Double Team and Growl right now, so we'll wait until ye can use an attack before we start yer move training." Looking at Gible, he realized that he had no idea what moves the little Dragon/Ground-type knew yet, so he pulled out his Pokedex and scanned his newest capture to see what he needed to work on. "Sand Tomb, Tackle, and Sand Attack," he said, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "We'll have to see about finding someone to teach ye Draco Meteor, but for now, that's a pretty good move set. I've given ye the name Sonic. Alright, let's-"
Before he could say anything else, a Pokemon's cry from nearby had him looking up, and he ducked as a Taillow dove at him, or more specifically, dove at Auth. The Poochyena, having seen the Normal/Flying-type coming, quickly dodged out of the way, snapping at the Taillow's wings as it veered back into the air. The Tiny Swallow Pokemon landed not far away, cawing a challenge at its intended target, and Brian smiled. This was a perfect chance to test out the Poochyena's abilities, and there was no need to catch another Pokemon right away. He would have his hands full right now with the team he had, so he wouldn't catch the Taillow, even though he knew that it might be wise to keep a few Pokemon in reserve, just in case. Right now, this was all about experience, and he was more than happy to let Auth take charge on this one, since the Poochyena was the one that was attacked.
"Alright, Auth, let's start it off with Howl," he said, and the Dark-type obeyed, letting out a Howl to raise his Attack stat. The Taillow, seeing this, used Focus Energy, needing the edge to land critical hits, in case it managed to dodge an attack at first. Auth, waiting for his next order, eyed the Tiny Swallow Pokemon warily, knowing from experience how fierce the little birds could be. "Tackle," was the next command, and Auth leaped into action, surging forward in a Tackle attack and landing a hit squarely on the Taillow. The Normal/Flying-type, reeling from the damage taken, immediately took to the air, flying up and veering around to come back down in a Peck attack. "Dodge!" Brian said, and Auth only just managed to get out of the way before the Taillow landed again. "Tackle again, before it flies up!" Brian commanded. Auth, happy to oblige, did just that, and the Taillow, unable to take another attack with the heightened Attack stat of the Dark-type, immediately fainted, falling onto its chest with swirls in its eyes.
"Well done, Auth!" Brian said, walking toward his Pokemon and rubbing the Dark-type's ears gently. Loving the attention and praise, Auth leaned into his trainer's hand, a soft huff of contentment leaving him before Brian turned to the rest of the team. "Alright, for now, let's work on yer speed," he said. "Each of ye will partner up with one of yer teammates and work on dodging attacks. Chase, until ye can use Confusion, I don't want ye to worry about attacking. Just focus on speed for now." His team nodded, and each of them paired up, Grace against Sonic, Chase against Zoom, and Auth against Aeros. He watched them for a while, correcting them where necessary, but allowing them to work on their speed mostly on their own. After about half an hour, he had them switch partners and go through it all over again.

Brian let his team train for a while, until they started showing signs of getting a little tired. Once this happened, he had them stop and put most of them back in their Pokeballs, then put Grace on his shoulder again. "Let's go see the Professor, shall we?" he suggested. He figured it might be a good idea to show the Professor what Pokemon he'd captured, as well as let him see Sonic, since Gible were native to Sinnoh. He had a feeling that several people, his parents included, would be quite interested in the little Dragon/Ground-type. That being said, he needed to go visit his parents, anyway, to show them Grace, as well as his newer captures. So he stopped by the Pokemon Center in Petalburg City, then headed back toward Littleroot Town, wanting to get as much ground covered as possible before stopping for the night.

Brian smiled as he listened to Skylar's words. "That's true," he said, nodding. "A lot of the Pokemon I've met have unique typing." He was happy to hear that Skylar hadn't had any problems with Sakura; he'd heard rumors that Bayleaf could be jealous if they weren't shown enough affection, but it seemed Skylar didn't have that problem. That just showed how much he cared about his Pokemon. As they reached the city, Brian looked around. "I know there's a Gym here, but if I remember right, Norman doesn't take any challengers that don't have at least three or four badges already," he said. "I'd love to test myself against him, but I don't want to put my team into battle if they're unable to handle the Pokemon they're up against." That being said, Rustboro was the first Gym he was going to try for in Hoenn, though he knew he would have to train his team and level them up so they could handle the Gym battle. He wondered if there might be trainers in Petalburg Woods that might be willing to battle, so his team could gain experience, or even if Skylar would be willing to battle with some of his Pokemon.
