Rowan did give the boy time to think on the matter, knowing that it was a very important decision in order to decide which starter Pokémon might be best. Each trainer had their own preference, but it was much more than preference, having to consider typing, some trainers might not like fire type Pokémon because they could have destructive tendencies, or others might not like water type Pokémon because they might be afraid of water. It was all a very trying process Rowan was aware, but it seemed that the young boy had made up his mind. "And which Pokémon is that," Rowan asked in return.

Matthew looks at Professor Rowan, a face full of confidence. "The Pokemon that I want come with me on my journey; the Pokemon that I have chosen to be my first ever Pokemon partner is...," he starts, giving about three seconds of suspense before saying, "Chimchar."

It didn't take long for the new comer to give his answer, and with that Rowan smiled and disappeared for just a moment in to another room, having just the right Chimchar for this new trainer, and was glad to have it go out on it's journey. He moved about the room, gathering a few items before heading back to the young man, holding out the items for him to take. "Right then, that's a fine choice. Here is your pokedex, and some potions and pokeballs to start you off, and this is the pokeball containing your Chimchar," Rowan spoke as he beamed with a smile beneath his mustache. Matthew has received:Chimchar Lv. 5 HP- 40 Ability: Scratch- 30 Leer- Lowers target's defense by one stage Exp 0/15 Pokeball- xx Potion- xx Pokedex (Make sure to keep the above information now in your posts at all times so you can keep track of your active party Pokémon and your inventory)

Matthew smiles as he receives his starter, Pokedex, Pokeballs, and potions from Professor Rowan. He then shakes his hand and says, "Thank you, Professor. I promise to look after Chimchar and take good care of him," before heading out of the laboratory and starting on his new journey, ready to explore the world with his Chimchar.

Elfana Aroway "What am I even doing here?" She muttered for the umpteenth time that day. What person in their right mind sends their younger sister a letter asking her to explore some strange region alone? Better yet- what idiot younger sister actually agrees to go explore said strange region on her own?! She stomped her foot like a petulant child when her call, once again, went straight to voicemail. The least he could do was answer her! "Answer your phone!" She snapped at the end of the recorded message, ending the call immediately after and tossing her phone to her Croagunk with a huff. This wouldn't be so bad if Kana would actually tell her what was going on! All the secrecy was driving her crazy. Kiro did not bother to store her phone in her bag. The last three times he did she had requested it back within minutes. "I think Doctor Aroway is upset." Commented the Mareep laying on the ground next to him. He rolled his eyes. "Really? I couldn't tell." Elfana's mood was contagious. She was stressed and so were her Pokemon as a result. "Maybe he's busy?" Her Alakazam offered, trying to calm his friend down some. Up until they had arrived in Sandgem Town she had been perfectly fine. Now that she was on the verge of getting her starter and registering as a Trainer she was panicking. While it was rather daunting, she was only making things worse for herself by acting out. "Or he's messing with me. This is all some big joke and I'm clearly not getting it." Elfana crossed her arms beneath her chest, staring down the lab as if it were some sort of eldritch abomination that existed only to make her suffer. The thought was ridiculous as she knew it. People became Pokemon Trainers every day without any difficulty. She was being childish. "Go in, get my starter, and leave. Simple, right?" Kana had even been kind enough to call ahead and request a starter for her according to his letter. He was doing his best to make this as easy on her as he possibly could. "I still don't want to." She groaned and shook her head. She was past the point of being able to turn back. "Okay. Wait outside. I'll be back."
Elfana took a deep breath, calming herself before opening the door to the lab. It was as if a switch had been flipped in her the moment she walked through the door. All previous frustration dissolved from her expression and was replaced by her usual apathy. Interacting with other people was always an unwelcome experience. "Hello?" She called out as she made her way into the lab. She stopped a few feet in, standing up straight with her hands folded neatly in front of herself. "Professor Rowan? My name is Elfana Aroway. I'm here to register as a Trainer." She paused, glancing back towards the exit before continuing. For the briefest of moments she had considered trying to leave but it was well beyond too late for that. "My brother said he called and requested a starter for me." Outside it had sounded almost sweet to her. Now that she was calm the thought that her twin had felt it necessary to call and ask for a starter for her made her feel ridiculous- a feeling that would only get worse once she realized he had asked for the "cutest Turtwig the Professor had". ElfyProfessor RowanThe Professor was enjoying a bit of quiet time to himself. He didn't really have any appointments for the day, all but one male who seemed to have scheduled a time for his sister to begin her journey. It was out of the norm, but he appreciated the forethought of it all. It aided in him planning his day, granted there weren't really any other experiments or appointments for that day to work around, so it seemed the day should go along easily. He had just finished a candy bar with a cup of tea as he began back out into the lab to aid in any research the assistants may need. He made his way halfway through the lab when the doors opened, and a feminine voice spoke out. He looked up to see a woman wearing all black, and a her interestingly colored hair in a messy bun. The older man moved to greet the new guest, but she introduced herself first. She introduced her name which he knew was familiar. But as she continued it was clear. He had assumed that the new trainer was going to be a bit... younger. Not that trainers had to be young to start off, he knew that. But with her brother making the appointment, and his...specific instructions painted a different picture. "Ah, yes. I recall. Right this way, Ms Aroway." He told her in his usual calm but stern voice. The Professor made his way over to a desk, and then lifted the tray with a single Pokeball sitting on it, along with a few other items and Pokedex. "Your bother was quite specific on what you would like for your starter, and we're confident that this Pokemon would suffice." He explained to her, turning back towards her and allowing her to collect her items. He seemed to have wanted her to have the 'cutest' Turtwig he had, which Rowan himself may act stern and some may say grumpy. But he does have a soft spot, and made she to pick out a cute Turtwig for the woman to start with. Granted, he had assumed it was a young girl who would play with it, but he still put forth the effort none-the-less. "You may collect these items as well, to help you get started on your journey as well." He explained to her. Even if she was a grown woman, he wasn't going to treat her any different, and would aid her getting started any way he could.Elfana Aroway has received:Turtwig Lv. 5 HP- 40 Ability: Tackle- 20 Withdraw- Raises user's defense Infinite Pokeballs Infinite Potions Pokedex

Elfana Aroway Elfana took the Pokeball, studying it briefly before turning her attention to the Pokedex. She assumed the Kana would have requested the Fire Type for her. He knew she hated birds so Piplup was out of the question. While she didn't hate Grass Types like she did birds, she certainly wasn't fond of them. Because she was so confident that he twin wouldn't choose something unusual, she didn't think to release the Turtwig from its Pokeball right away. She had some questions she wanted to ask first. She studied the Pokedex carefully, attempting to memorize every last detail. "Would alterations to this device be frowned upon?" The answer to this didn't really matter. She was going to take it apart and put it back together at least once. Familiarizing herself with the inner workings of the Pokedex would make repairing it easier if it happened to be damaged- as unlikely as that was- while she was traveling. "How would this hold up against something like a Magnemite?" If the Pokedex was vulnerable to things like Magnemite she would have to find a way to improve it. While she examined the Pokedex she finally let the little Turtwig out of its Pokeball, though her attention was still fixed on the device in her hand. She didn't realize what her starter was until she heard an excited "Turtwig!" from the adorable Grass Type. This was most definitely a joke and she wasn't amused in the slightest by it. Next time she saw her twin she fully intended to beat him within an inch of his life. Still, her expression remained neutral until the Turtwig approached her, standing up on his hind legs and pressing his little feet against her leg. "Hi! Are you my Trainer? You're really pretty!" Elle understood none of what he was trying to say but that didn't matter to him. He had his very own Trainer! She looked down at the cute Turtwig, who was still happily babbling away at both her and Professor Rowan. "Look, professor! This is mine~!" Her cold expression finally faltered as she stored her Pokedex away, forgetting all about her previous questions. She knelt down so she could be closer to the Turtwig's level. He reached a foot up towards her and smiled. "Hi~!" Elfana picked him up, cradling the Turtwig against her chest as she stood. Her twin had requested a cute Turtwig for a reason. She had instantly become attached to it. She couldn't help but smile as he continued to try to talk to her. "Hello to you too." Turtwig took this as her understanding him and squealed in response. She patted his head and shrugged helplessly. Maybe this wasn't going to be as horrible as she thought. "He is perfect. Thank you, Professor."Partners: Out of their Pokeballs: Wearing: outfit, hairstyle Trainer Encounter: 2/25 Wild Encounter: 2/? ElfyProfessor RowanThe older professor waited patiently as the female began to retrieve her items and starter. How ever, once she had collected the Pokedex, she started to inspect it closely. He found this fairly interesting, and her question even more so. "I don't suppose alterations are frowned upon... Just so long as it's registration, and connection with the leagues aren't tampered with." He explained. He didn't exactly know very many people who would, or would want to, tamper with a Pokedex. He didn't think there would be too much harm in it, so long as it remained in regulation. She continued her thoughts about what would be safe for the Pokedex, it was another interesting question. Most starting out didn't ask specific questions such as these, which began to lead him to believe she was intelligent and had more skills then most starting out. "They are tested around all Pokemon, So the regular electromagnetic fields of a Magnemite, or other Pokemon of the like, should be fine. Residual static or other weaker shocks should be fine. But, of course, a direct strike from one may short it out, or fry it." he explained to her calmly. It held his interest, answering these questions, however he still seemed just as calm and uninterested. He knew being around a Magnemite, or even holding it up to the Pokemon, should be fine systematically. However, even though he felt it obvious, he wouldn't want to send a direct attack at it for what ever reason. However she soon let out her starter, who was just as talkative as before. The Pokemon softened his own expression, having worked with Pokemon he couldn't deny the young Turtwig. Giving it a nod as though he understood when the grass starter turned to him. It was a fairly sweet little guy, but watching her cold expression he worried about the relationship they may have together. This all washed away when the excited Pokemon got through and she picked him up. "I'm glad to see he is. You're welcome. If you have any further questions you're free to give the lab a call." he explained to her, in case she had any specific questions about her Pokedex or anything of the like, it would be open to her to do so.

Elfana Aroway "That is fine. I have no interest in tampering with it." Improving it, however, might be necessary. Elfana could worry about that later. If she remembered correctly she would need to pass through a city on her way to the first gym. She would likely be able to find any of the parts she needed there. The Turtwig in her arms let out a happy cry when it sounded like it was about time for them to head out. They were going to take on the gyms! "We're going to have so much fun~!" He waved his foot at the professor, trying his best to mimic waving goodbye. "I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for your time." She replied, waving just like her Turtwig- though with nowhere near the same amount of enthusiasm. This still earned her a delighted squeal from him as he began wriggling his foot about in an attempt to copy her wave. As she turned to leave she nearly bumped into her Alakazam, who she hadn't heard enter the lab. "Did the other two get into trouble?" She asked, patting his head before noticing the small gift bag hanging off of his wrist. There was a print on the front of it, as if a Lucario had dipped its paw in ink and pressed it up against the bag. He gestured towards the professor and shrugged. "Or that." Kana had sent something along for the professor- or rather one of his Pokemon had. Probably something to thank him for helping her. "I'll be waiting for you by the door." She turned and began walking towards the exit, leaving Walter to offer Professor Rowan the gift hanging off of his wrist. Given the state of his hands, it was obvious he couldn't have closed his hands around the handle even if he wanted to. Keeping it on his wrist was his next best choice. Inside the bag the professor would find a Rage Candy Bar and a crudely drawn picture of a Cyndaquil, which was circled several times and had yet another paw print by it for good measure. "Thank you for helping our friend." The Alakazam said once the gift was handed over. The Lucario had run off in a hurry so he could beat her to the first gym. Since he wasn't here to thank Professor Rowan he would have to do it for him. Since he had no idea what the gift was, he bowed to the professor before turning to follow Elle.

She spotted a few assistance start to look for the source of her voice, but she quickly found Rowen coming out to meet her. " Sorry to keep you waiting, Ms. You're here to register you say?" He apologized in a calm voice, and questioned that he heard her right. She couldn't help but let out a smirk as he called her 'Ms.' " Yeah, I know I'm a little old to be registering, lets just get this show on the road so I can be on my way." She replied her smirk disappeared as she waved her hand in the air in a gesturing trying to keep the motion moving. " No one is too old to start their journey. But if you are in this big of a hurry, then right this way." He replied, he hadn't implied that she was old, so he felt no need to apologize. His tone caused her eyebrow to upwards, but she wasn't offended, it was almost humorous to her. But he got the picture so she followed him over to a near by table. " Have you thought about which starter you were interested in?" He asked her calmly. She stopped in front of the table, and gave him a nod. " I have. A Turtwig would be the best option." She told him. She had trained one before, so she knew it would be an easy choice to make. " Ah, Turtwig are quite popular recently. Here you are." He offered, holding out the grass type to her, and then a tray with a few items for her. " Thank you Professor Rowen. I Appreciate these." She told him, thinking it was a nice gesture to help her with Pokeballs or potions. Granted if she had been in a tight spot she could have called D13, but he wasn't aware of that. Leaving Floaroma town had been impossibly difficult, only because she knew she wouldn't be turning back. Now that she was standing in Professor Rowan's Lab, it felt real. To one side there were new trainers battling for the first time. On the other, research on the cutting edges of their fields were in progress. Maps and screens and books and computers thrived in relative harmony. She breathed it all in. This was a whole new day to live in. It was her own new beginning, and she had a reliable partner by her side. Her grotle nudged her hand to encourage her. She knew where to go. It just took a moment to coax her feet to go there. She shuffled her feet through the lab toward the back of the room. Rowan looked up from his younger group. "Ah, Miss Hanna Hull, for your renewal, correct?"
She bowed a little, mostly out of embarrassment. "Yes, Professor! I've worked for quite some time now, and I think I've figured out what I want to go on a journey to discover."
Rowan put up a finger, and turned back to his students. "Now, here is a fine example of taking your adventure as it comes. Knowing what you are hoping to find on your path goes a long way to shaping not just a great trainer, but also one who can do great things. Miss Hull, for the sake of the kids, would you be willing to tell us what you're looking for?"
"I want to reinvent how we make potions, using berries." It was nerve wracking to say out loud. What was better was she also felt reassured. Her goal was clear, concise, and constructive. "I want to find different types of berries, and how different regions use them."
While she talked, Rowan re-entered her data. A little box of a machine whirred and buzzed, until it spat out a little plastic card. It had her name, number, home region. Rowan plucked it from the machine and signed the back for authenticity. He handed it to her with both hands, and with both hands she accepted it. She looked it over for typos, but also to stare at her face. She was doing it- she was leaving her predictable and comfortable life behind for one of adventure. She tucked her new license into her inside jacket pocket. Soon she would have the badges to go with it.
"Did you bring your old model?" Rowan smiled. Hanna nodded. She opened up her bag and pulled from it her old Pokedex. She wasn't even sure if it turned on anymore. After years of disuse, it was hard to turn on. Rowan placed it on the table next to where recycled things await a new future. From underneath, he pulled out a fresh box. The kids begged her to open it. They all knew what was in it. Shen she peeled back the plastic and propped open the lid. She touched the button. It powered on with the same sterile woman's voice, and asked her name. Surely the kids had seen this a thousand timees from other trainers. Real trainers, she thought. She brushed it off. That sort of thinking would get her nowhere.
"Now, we just need to update its information." He laid it on top of her old Pokedex, and the data transfered on its own. It was a quick exchange, it only had two entries. When he handed it back to her, he held up the dex and scanned her turtwig. It grunted, and the Pokedex chimed. "This is the Pokemon, Turtwig! It is a Grasstype, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon! Made from soil, the shell on its back hardens when it drinks water. It lives along lakes."
"And that means it works!" Rowan laughed. "Do you have all the supplies you need, Miss Hull?"
She nodded, and bowed this time for sincerity. "I do, Professor. Thank you! Good luck choosing your partners, guys!"
When she left the building, she felt a new person. She had a Pokedex, a starter, and a vision. She would not cut her journey short this time. She would not falter at the first sign of struggle. She had proved through many planting seasons that she could be just as tough as Nature herself. If she could be that- then no one could stop her from being a successful Pokemon Researcher. She said it under her breath to assure herself. Her turtwig beamed back at her. It was time for adventure.Firethorn the Turtwig Exp 2/15Lv. 5 HP- 40 Ability: Overgrow Tackle- 20 Withdraw- Raises user's defense x x

Amos wasn't nervous - because why would he be? He'd seen it all in his lifetime, so there was nothing to be afraid of. After all, what could go wrong? And if something did go wrong, would he be bothered by it five minutes later? Five hours? Five days? Five weeks, months, or years?
He'd embarrassed himself plenty in his life, so why should he worry about embarrassing himself again? It was just part of life, in his opinion. Not everything could go right, that just wasn't possible. So he tottered through the town, cane thumping loudly into the dirt as he headed, without much hurry, towards the Professor's Lab. @tagged

blackbirdThe Sinnoh Laboratory was getting some trickles of traffic giving way to how quiet it had been recently, the large influx of new trainers coming to receive their starters having depleted for some time. It wasn't an inconvenience by any means, giving the laboratory as a whole the time to start focusing on other things, but while that in itself was rewarding, there was nothing better to the good Professor of Sinnoh than sending out a new trainer with the growing unruly starter pokemon he had to care for in their time there. It was with a grin beneath his gray mustache that he came into the main room of the lab, being notified by one of his lab hands that there was a knock at the door, and a request for him. Rowan adjusted his coat and tucked a clipboard under one arm before moving into the main room and coming towards the door. "Yes, hello? How can I help you today sir," Rowan answered and greeted with a soft smile then as he'd opened the door, facing then an older gentleman on the other side.

blackbirdThinking for only a quick moment, Rowan smiled a bit more broadly as he shook the offered hand, he had been expecting Amos that day to come for a starter Pokemon. "Yes, of course, good to meet you! Please, come in," Rowan greeted, and after finishing with a firm handshake he side stepped, opening the door wider and offering Amos to step inside. "I've had everything gathered for you, our basic supplies and your registered Pokedex for sending you off. You'll have to forgive me though, I couldn't remember. Which starter Pokemon was it that you wanted to meet today," the good professor asked, wanting to make sure that he had everything set for Amos to get started.

"Thank you," he stepped inside, taking a moment to look around the lab. It was different - very much so - from what he was used to. He was used to wooden buildings and dust and a thin layer of fur everywhere. This was... not. It was sterile and clean, so clean he felt almost out of place.
He'd thought over which Pokemon he wanted for quite some time. Piplup had been his first thought, but he needed a Pokemon that could help him and Piplup... well, it didn't have hands. Same for Turtwig, though he felt the Pokemon would run more at his speed. So it was "I'd like to meet Chimchar, if that's possible." @tagged

blackbirdHaving gestured for one of his lab hands to go get the set of items that they had set aside earlier that day for just this visitor, Rowan nodded at the thanks as he let Amos inside of his facility. When asked what starter Pokemon he had been wanting to meet and likely take with him that day, Rowan smiled at the answer of a Chimchar. He had just the one, the fire types as a whole were always eager to go out on an adventure, so he was certain that this was going to be a good fit. "Of course, that sounds like a fine choice," Rowan nodded with a mustached smile, and while his lab aide had come back and held out a tray of supplies for Amos to take along with him, Rowan had moved away for only a moment to grab the Pokeball that would really get things started. "Basic pokeballs and healing supplies are essential, and your pokedex is all registered. And this Pokeball here is for your Chimchar, I do hope that everything seems in order and that you certainly enjoy your time out on this new journey you're about to embark on," Rowan offered.

Amos took the Poke Ball as if it were something precious which, to him, it was. Who knew what the Pokemon inside could feel? And it held inside his new companion, his new partner, his new friend. He smiled, cradling it in the palm of his hand, "I'll take fine care of him, I can't thank you enough, for everything." @exit Amos!

Arriving to Twinleaf Town, Nova began stretching a little, the long train ride makiing itself known by her sore muscles, only to stop the second she remembered she was still at the station, surrounded by many, many people, getting in and off the train, and against the logical part of her mind that reminded her no one really cared, she couldn't help the hot burn on her face.
She clenched her fists around the straps of her backpack (likely still remembering her final year of middle school), then in a swift motion exited the train station, looking for a bit less crowdy place to stop for a moment and actually check out the map on her phone.
From Twinlead to Sandgem, it wasn't that far, but still rather annoying, and by the time she actually reached the lab, she's managed to internally curse out both herself for making the decision to start traveling, and the entire Sinnoh region for not establishing easier means of transportation.
But oh well, she was there. Sandgem Town. Professor Rowan's Lab. She was actually there.
She took a few longer breaths to calm down her fluttering heart; to no avail. Still, she bit the inside of her mouth, closed her eyes, and forced her hand to knock several times before opening the door leading inside.
"Um, hello?" She said, slowly crossing the threshold, all the while looking around in search of a man she'd only ever seen on screen before. "I was... scheldued for today, I believe?"

blackevylJust recently it had been rather quiet in the Sinnoh Laboratory, the large influx of new trainers coming to receive their starters having depleted for some time. It was with a grin beneath his gray mustache that he came into the main room of the lab at the sound of a voice. "Yes? Hello young lady," Rowan greeted in delight, moving forward with a hefty handshake. He looked upon her, beaming as he gestured for her to step inside when she mentioned she had an appointment. "Yes, yes of course, Miss Nova, hmm? Welcome, I'm glad you've made it," he nodded. "Now tell me, have you made your decision on which partner you'll be traveling with," Rowan asked, eager as ever, it was the single greatest decision a new trainer had the opportunity to make, and it was with pride and pleasure that he enjoyed being able to aid in such a momentus occasion.(Hello again! We're so glad to see you getting started with us! Let myself, Paradisity, or Prince, know if you have any questions, and you can reach us on discord as well!)

While the sense of discomfort did not disappear completely, it certainly lost a bit of its hold on Nova, as the Professor seemed way less irritable than on most pictures.
"That's. Yes, me, thank you," she said, following the man further inside. "I have, actually."
The thing is, Nova knew herself well-enough to understand that at times - well, alright, quite often - she needed something from the outside to drag her out, and if she intended to start meeting new people, she needed a Pokemon that would force her to interact. In other words, she needed a Pokemon whose personality was the exact opposite of hers!
"I would like to take Chimchar with me, if that's allowed." She smiled, clenching her fists on the straps of her backpack even stronger than before.

He posed is question, asking which starter Pokemon she had come to meet today, to start off on her own with a new partner, and she seemed contemplative, maybe even hesitant? And yet, Rowan didn't seemed surprised by her answer. He'd met many a different trainer over the years from the most standoffish to the most kind, the most timid to the most bold, and depending on what they wanted to accomplish, just not Pokemon training, was reflected in their decision. He had just the Chimchar for her, and he had a feeling it would be a right fit. "That sounds like a fine decision, I have just the one for you. They all look forward to this day very much," Rowan nodded with a mustached smile, and while his lab aide had come back and held out a tray of supplies for Nova to take along with her, Rowan had moved away for only a moment to grab the Pokeball that would really get things started.
