The Man kicked the cage that sat beside his bed. "Stop your damn whining." The Team Rocket Operative clearly didn't care that the Growlithe he'd captured was injured. Well, that might not have been completely true. He was becoming quite annoyed with the whimpering sounds the dumb mutt made. Growlithe wasn't even the only Pokemon in a cage, there were three or four others who were likely stolen from the Pokemon Center or from the surrounding caves.

Just then, the Team Rocket Operative thought he heard something at the door. He turned to look, but nothing happened. He shrugged, chalking it up to paranoia. "When I get back to Team Rocket Headquarters, you're going to meet your new Daddy; Giovanni." He laughed as he fell back on his bed. Looking to his right, he wiggled his fingers temptingly in front of a Pidgey's cage. The bird snapped at his fingers, but he was too quick at pulling his hand back and laughing, before slapping the cage. The bird was startled, flapping it's wings as well as it could in the cramped quarters.

The Operative was leaning back in his bed, back against the wall. He had decided to close his eyes for a few moments; it had been such a long and challenging day. Stealing even a single Pokemon without any witnesses required a lot of effort, and he had collected four now in one day. His thoughts were beginning to slow, and he knew that before long he would be asleep. Suddenly, one important thought sprang into focus; he had forgotten to lock the door. Being caught red-handed was the last thing he wanted, so he opened his eyes and hopped up onto his feet only to see some kid stepping into his room. "What the... who the Hell are you?!"

Turning her head just slightly, the gem on her forehead sparked. A massive bolt of electricity then formed, racing up the stream of water until it hit the enemy. Now that the water attack had stopped, she jumped down off of the bed and used Hypnosis to put the Pokemon to sleep. Her gem sparked a second time, sending a crashing bolt of electricity at the Mantine, quickly followed by a third. Even the Thief had to know it was a lost cause, he recalled his Pokemon and grit his teeth in anger. "I may not know who you are, but you're going to regret that Punk."

"Oh, so you want to play with electricity? I have just the trick." The Thief sent out another Pokeball, this one held a Scizor. He clashed his metal claws together threateningly. Just as the steel-coated Pokemon lunged, he was hit from behind with a stream of fire. Scizor acted instinctively, swiping his heavy claw around to hit whatever had attacked. The only problem was, there was a cage between him and Growlithe. His claw smashed right through the bars. Growlithe could escape! He squeezed through the new opening and used Flamethrower again.
Scizor knew he had just royally screwed up, his Owner was not going to be happy and would likely take it out on him later. For now though, he had to try and fix the mistake he'd made. He swiped claw after claw at the hound. Most of them hit, but the fire kept coming. The heat was beginning to prove too much for him to handle, finally his wings couldn't keep up. He ended up overheating and falling onto his back. Julian could read the curse words coming from the Thief's mouth, and he was glad he couldn't hear in that moment. TL;DR

"Time for you to get your ass kicked, Little Kid." The second Pokemon had three vine-like appendages spiked on the end that kept it suspended from the ceiling. That was a new one for him, and as curious as he was about the Pokemon he wasn't foolish enough to forget how much of a threat it posed. The third, however, was obviously a Flying-Type. It resembled a very large duck. Persian might be able to deal with this one...

Each of the stones had hit Typhlosion in one place or another. A Fire Blast attack hit the Ferrothorn on the roof, and caused it to fall to the floor. It hit him hard, but it wasn't enough to end the battle. Neither was the second Fire Blast, but the third was just enough to tip the scales. "I'll kill you!" He started towards Julian ready to wring the Kid's neck, but remembered Typhlosion and thought twice about it. Instead, he pulled his Pokemon back into their respective Pokeballs. The tables had just turned, and the Thief was now the one outnumbered and out-gunned. He realized he only had one hope of escape, and decided to take it - running towards the window, he brought his arms up to cover his face and jumped. His weight and momentum brought him crashing through the window and out into the storm. Julian rushed to the window and peered through into the night, but there was no sign of him aside from the broken glass covering the grass. Julian ran over to Typhlosion and hugged the Pokemon. If he hadn't come through in that last moment, he didn't want to think about what would have happened. Typhlosion had likely just saved his life - again. TL;DR

Julian found himself staring out into the broken window, the rain had already began to soak the carpet around it, but he didn't care. He was lost deep in his own thoughts. He couldn't just ignore this, and witnessing the cruelty of Team Rocket firsthand opened his eyes about quite a bit. That this sort of underhanded cruelty was going on all around him and he had never seen it before. One way or another, Team Rocket was going to pay for this; even if he had to give up on his dreams of proving himself worthy to not only his Father, but the rest of the world. He was brought back to reality by a light tap on his shoulder. Turning to see Nurse Joy, he had an idea what she might say. "I'm sorry I left you there, but I had to go get your other Pokemon to come and help."
He was right, she hadn't abandoned him like he originally believed. "The Police will be here shortly, they are going to have some questions." That wasn't going to work for him, however, because he had work to do. Instead, he took out his note pad and jotted something down before handing it over to her. "Yes, of course I can heal your Pokemon... the Hospital Wing is still powered up and functional." He handed over his Pokeballs to her. While she hurried off to heal his Pokemon back to full health, he returned to his room and packed his bags. He also recalled everyone besides Noctowl. On the way down from his room, Julian began to plot and plan. Nurse Joy handed him his Pokemon back, but didn't like the fact that he seemed ready to leave. "You really shouldn't leave, the Police..."
She was cut off by his look. He turned and started towards the door, sending out Growlithe as he walked. The pup seemed much healthier, which was good to say the least. They left the Pokemon Center with a mission in mind, and thanks to the link shared through Noctowl's mind the team was unified and working with a singular goal. "I have to go and find him. I have to make sure he doesn't do anything like this to anybody else." He directed towards Nurse Joy. With the heavy storm, he was quickly soaked through. Growlithe wasn't like the Charmander evolutionary line; even though he was a Fire-Type, he could withstand the rain without dying. Even when they happened across another Pokemon, they knew it wasn't one of the Pokemon owned by the dastardly villain - so a Close Combat attack from Growlithe made short work of the Patrat and they kept moving, kept searching. Typhlosion walked along beside him now, a powerful Fire-Type Pokemon on either side of him ready to defend him at any cost. Julian hoped the first threat they were going to come up against would be Team Rocket, but it came in the form of yet another wild Pokemon - a snake that he was far from familiar with. Typhlosion didn't hesitate to use Fire Blast twice; in rapid succession, but the snake didn't seem phased. It got in close and bit down on Typhlosion's arm. He slammed the snake into the ground, dealing both impact damage and damage from the Earthquake that resulted from it. Afterwards, the Trainer healed his Pokemon fully before they continued on their way.

Julian Malcolm
Returning to the open sky, rain falling upon his furious form without pity, Julian encountered a bird many times larger than his own Pidgeot. If he could ride upon the back of his Pidgeot for an hour, this bird could remain in the sky for days on end. It landed, and Julian had to shield his eyes from the rain as it changed direction because of it's powerful wings. He was stunned as he stared at his bird. He could have stared at the brilliant plumage for hours. Instead, a sound caught his attention. He looked around for the source. It was Arcanine, he came across the scent of something important. He climbed onto Pidgeot's back and they took off - following Arcanine from above. When they neared whatever had caught the hound's attention, Pidgeot dropped low enough for Julian to slip off and land in a crouch. Arcanine neared the source, only to be swiped at by a wild Pokemon's dangerous claws.
Arcanine shrunk back, whimpering at the trio of bleeding lines on his cheek. A third Pokemon jumped down from a nearby rooftop and landed between them. Persian must have been following them all, ignoring the rain she hated so much for some love she held for her friends and Trainer - although she'd never admit it to anyone else. She stared the wild Pokemon down, it didn't realize the trap until it was too late and it was suddenly rendered unconscious. That's when she brought down a trio of electrical bolts on top of the enemy. It seemed they hadn't encountered the Man of which their hunt was focused, but he knew they were drawing nearer.

A rapid succession of lights drew his attention, originating from around the corner and down an alley. He recognized it instantly, someone had just let out all of their Pokemon. Nobody else would be foolish enough to be out in such a storm, so he knew just what he would find when he turned that corner. Yes, just as he'd suspected, he came once more face-to-face with the one he hated most. If his own deduction skills had any merit, the Team Rocket Operative had just finished healing his Pokemon via Revives and Max Potions. Julian, rather than showing an ounce of fear, released all of his own Pokemon from their Pokeballs as well, and they all stood opposing one another - neither side daring to make the first move.

It was the elegant-appearing Swanna who moved first. She took to the sky, only to be met by Persian. The cat had jumped first upon the hood of a parked car, then onto the much larger truck parked behind it. Swanna flew circles around Persian, whipping a gust of wind in an attempt to unseat the cat from the truck. Instead, she dug her claws into the paint and held on. When she could open her eyes once more, they were glowing. The swan didn't have enough time to react, and fell from the sky. She laid down on the edge of the truck, paws and head hanging over to watch the avian opponent. The gem on her forehead sparked, and a clap of thunder pre-warned of the trio of lightning bolts that came crashing down upon the swan's motionless form.

"You've only got one more Pokemon. Choose wisely." Julian grinned. He was toying with the enemy now, knowing the other Pokemon he's got stored up his sleeve. That Ferrothorn didn't stand a chance against the rage and power flowing inside Typhlosion. True to word, when the enemy moved into battle suspended between the two walls of the alley and hit with a Rollout attack, Typhlosion countered with a record-setting Fire Blast that knocked it to the ground. It tried to use Rollout again, but a second Fire Blast attack stopped it in it's tracks. Sensing it's approaching loss, Ferrothorn created a stone twice as large as the others, rolling it towards Typhlosion. Even the Fire Blast attack that met it couldn't stop it's momentum, and the explosion sent Typhlosion sprawling backwards. If Julian hadn't moved, Typhlosion might have landed on him. Despite the serious pain it was now in, Typhlosion got back up and narrowly avoided another Rollout. Fire Blast being the main weapon, he used one final blast that successfully secured the victory for Julian and his team. TL;DR

"No, not again!" He exclaimed, falling over in his attempt to escape. He crawled away, only to realize that the alley was a dead end all over again. Julian walked forward, letting out all of his Pokemon. Pidgeot and Noctowl flew above the alley, Typhlosion and Arcanine were centered with Persian and Quagsire on either side of them, and Julian behind them all. "I'm sorry, I won't do anything like that again!" He stammered, but Julian knew his words held no more truth than they ever had. Giving the mentally coordinated signal to his team, they all used their respective most powerful attack - Typhlosion used Fire Blast, Arcanine used Flamethrower, Persian used Thunder, Quagsire used Blizzard, Noctowl used Psychic, and Pidgeot used Wing attack. The attacks combined into one massive attack that sent the Team Rocket Operative flying through the sky due to a massive explosion. Julian doubted he'd ever see that guy again, but if he did then he'd make him wish he were never born. They all turned to leave, back towards the Pokemon Center.

All, that is, except for one. Noctowl's keen eyesight spotted something the others had overlooked. He flew down into the alley, through the smoke and stench of burned building, to retrieve something from the ground and brought it to his Trainer. "I think that crook dropped it." Noctowl thought to Julian, dropping the bag into his hands. Julian pulled the draw-string bag open, upending it to drop a strange stone into his hands. What could this be? He thought. Turning it over, everything became clear. It was a fossil! So that's what the Team Rocket Villain had been up to, he'd stolen not only other People's Pokemon but this fossil as well. He dropped the stone back into it's bag, storing it in his backpack for safe keeping. The next day, after a good night's rest, he'd take it to get it restored into a real Pokemon.The storm was fading fast, and as much as he wanted to just hop onto Pidgeot and take off, he was too exhausted from his battles and hunting down the enemy.

After returning to the Pokemon Center, and having Nurse Joy heal all of his Pokemon (the power had come back on with the storm passing!), he headed up to his room and passed out almost instantly. Sleep came to him easily tonight, all of his Pokemon sleeping around him made him feel safe and comfortable. However, the dream that he had that night was the strangest and most vivid that he'd ever had. It began with a storm that blew over all of the buildings around him, until only the Pokemon Center remained. Nurse Joy had been kidnapped by a gang of Team Rocket Grunts, and he had to chase her down hallways that seemed to stretch longer and longer the more that he ran, until eventually they were gone and he was alone - not even his Pokemon at his side to protect him. The ground began to shake, crack, split open and then he was falling down, down, down. Some time before he hit whatever bottom there happened to be in the chasm, he woke with a start.
