Liz got to enjoy the calm, cool evening as she walked. They were still near the volcanic area so that Cherry could continue enjoying his new playmates without wandering too far from her. She could perceive the difference between this space and the rest of the Plains, too. She did her best to walk that line and minimize the time Cherry spent out of sight or trying to get closer to her. The redhead smiled warmly and was carrying Gus with her as a way of rewarding his strength against that Heatmor. "You're so strong, Gus. I'm glad you're OK. That Pokemon was so scary." She praised the Seel, who relished in the petting and care although he couldn't figure out what he had done to deserve it. He battled the other Pokemon, and he won. Good enough for a pat on the head, sure, but she was treating him like a king! He could get used to this kind of a trainer. Definitely worth the effort of battling that Heatmor. He rubbed his head up against Liz's chest, mindful of his horn, groaning out his satisfaction with her treatment. The Raticate sneaking up on her jumped out to attack Cherry had peeked out to check on Liz and shouted a warning before belching fire in Raticate's path. Gus followed suit by spitting a mouthful of water at Raticate over the flames. Liz was turning and ready with a Pokeball when she realized her Pokemon were attacking something. Fluffy came out with a nervous bleat as she stared down the Raticate. She could tell it was strong, and she didn't really have a chance against what she was facing. And it went exactly as she expected. Liz tried to call out a command to use Thundershock but by the time she looked down, Raticate had already lunged across Cherry's flames and dug his fangs into Fluffy's side. The Mareep wailed miserably before passing out and Raticate opened its mouth to claim itself a meal.

Hard iron clanked and Diggle let out a snarl as she interrupted Raticate's attempt to eat Fluffy. Raticate was more than happy to bite down on that hard carapace, but it shrieked in pain all the same. "D-Diggle! Help Fluffy! Hit him with everything you've got, baby! You can do this!" Liz cried to her Aron, kneeling down to apply a Potion to her fainted Mareep before calling her back. Diggle kept clashing with Raticate, pushing him back with each violent thrust of her thick head.Raticate was easily taking damage but it just didn't seem enough compared to the might of the Raticate they were up against. Diggle's thick skull wasn't enough and she faltered when Raticate evaded her last Headbutt and came down hard with a Sucker Punch that caused the Aron to bounce off the ground. Raticate snapped Diggle up in its mouth, trying to bite through her armored skin. It was just some food it was after, it wasn't hurting anybody! Except its food, but that was no big dea--uh-oh.

Astro came flying out of his Pokeball while Liz began crying. "A-Astro! Astro no! He'll hurt you too!" The redhead wailed. Astro thrummed furiously and caught Raticate in the jaw as it opened its mouth to bite down on Diggle again. The vermin Pokemon shrieked furiously and Liz acted quickly enough to get Diggle back into her Pokeball. Astro buzzed around Raticate's head and was bumped and jostled by the Dark Pokemon's attempts to attack back. Silvery powder drifted out of Astro's wings before he thrummed in a way that activated the power within it. Raticate was thrown by the sudden flourish of energy that reacted to Astro's command. Raticate bunched up tight after landing again and smashed against Astro. Raticate floundered as it hit the ground harder than it had in previous jumps. Raticate jumped at Astro again, knocking him down and raking its claws across his carapace. "ASTRO!" Liz screamed out for her Ledyba, who was sent flying after Raticate struck him a third time. Raticate made a dismayed noise at having brilliant light flash in its face as it charged Astro. Liz shielded her eyes against the shine of evolution. Since Rin had evolved inside her Pokeball, this was Liz's first experience witnessing Evolution. His bulky frame slimmed out and his awkward little fists extended from the sides of that slimmer shape. His antennae moved only a little on top of his head. When the light faded, Astro had grown into Ledian and was now faster still. Astro admired his new shape briefly before sweeping around Raticate once more. "A-Astro...? You can do it! Use..." Liz faltered, reading her Pokedex quickly. "That. Yes! USE SILVER WIND!" Astro was more than happy to oblige, powdering the air and Raticate before sweeping it again with a rush of insect scales and a powerful gust like he was a Bird Pokemon!

"Astro! Astro, you're amazing! You were so great! You saved us!" She squeezed the ladybug Pokemon in a tight bear hug with Gus while Cherry ran up to his family and cried out in excitement. Raticate was down, and Astro gave it a firm punch to make sure it didn't try to attack again. After Fluffy and Diggle's losses, Liz wasn't even upset about the aggression. She felt it was deserved. And she was grateful to her Ledian that he won in the end.

Fluffy's Pokeball flew into the air and cracked open to unleash the Sheep Pokemon. Fluffy bleated her protest at the sight of Jumpluff, rightly worried about the floating Pokemon that looked like it was made of metal itself. She trembled as that uncomfortable energy Liz had watched siphon away from Spearow now was being drawn from Fluffy without even touching her. Jumpluff opened its mouth and sucked as it used Mega Drain to sap some of Fluffy's health to empower itself. "Wait a sec--Fluffy, use Thunderwave!" Cried Liz as she thought back on her battle with Falkner. Her best hope then had been with paralyzing the Flying Type Gym Leader, what made Jumpluff any different? Dexter had already tagged it as a Flying Type Pokemon, and it informed her that it was quite strong. Slow it down, weaken it, then she would probably have to let someone else finish it off. "Do what you can, Fluffy! I know you can do this!" She shouted, encouraging the woolly Pokemon who sparked and buzzed with power before unleashing the dreaded Thunderwave onto her opponent. Jumpluff had jumped into a breeze only to seize up in its failed attempt to escape. Jumpluff began to move again right after, smacking its chops and slurping at the air once more with Fluffy seizing up this time and falling to her knees from the onslaught of life-stealing attacks. "Now try...what was it? Oh! There, Cotton Spore! Fluffy, use Cotton Spore!" Liz commanded, encouraging her Mareep to use her special attacks instead of going on the offensive. Sure dealing damage was best, but Liz was certain that Fluffy was going to wind up the victim of making this setup work. She just had to do what she could and then recover later once the battle was over.

Fluffy fought well even with the clear disadvantage. Jumpluff was proving to be stronger. With a sudden shift in the pace of Battle, Jumpluff trembled and seized. Fluffy sparked and glowed with electricity before slinging it at her opponent. Liz cheered as Jumpluff fell to the ground while it continued to seize. The redhead felt guilty for taking advantage of the creature's suffering, but she was willing to fight it to protect Diggle. Her whole team! Liz wanted to hit the Jumpluff just for feeding off of her Pokemon. Fluffy reared up on her hooves and hustled toward Jumpluff with another Thundershock blasting the weed Pokemon and causing it to stagger with what little muscle control it had. Fluffy continued to charge and shock Jumpluff again and again. She kept on the move even as her state showed that the Mega Drains before were taking their toll. Jumpluff remained unable to move and fight back for what felt like an eternity. Liz was considering calling off the attack when Fluffy seized up like she had been shocked the way Jumpluff had been getting electrocuted. She flinched when energy was siphoned off of her one last time and Jumpluff regained its footing. It seemed to grow stronger thanks to the health boost Fluffy unwillingly gave it. "Fluffy?! Oh, no!" Cried the redhead, frowning at the sight of her Mareep collapsing from exhaustion as a result of Jumpluff's draining.

Diggle had been fighting with Jumpluff's Leech Seed to help the wild Spearow. "Diggle! I need your help, Diggle! Try that one attack...R-Rock Slide? The one you keep hitting everyone with!" She called out, hoping Diggle understood her order. The Aron did indeed comprehend that Liz wasn't talking about Rock Slide. She scooped one stone up with her nose and slung it at Jumpluff readily. She dashed and did it again with another rock, juggling a handful of them in a pattern that eventually had them smashing against Jumpluff and slowing it down with the battering. Jumpluff floated toward Diggle and seemingly vanished in a burst of speed that Liz couldn't begin to comprehend! Jumpluff danced around Diggle multiple times, avoiding her attacks in the process, until striking her from the flank with a blow that lifted and skidded her Aron. "It's so strong! Use Rock Sl--O-o-oh. Sorry. Sorry! Rock Tomb! Use Rock Tomb, Diggle!" Cried the young woman commanding the fight. She was practicing, so Diggle was willing to forgive the slip-ups, but she was really anxious about dealing with this freakish Jumpluff. It was lucky that it was taking so much damage from Diggle's Rock Tombs. Another Rock Tomb was met with those fluttering seeds assaulting Diggle and her Trainer before two of them tangled and took root on Diggle's hardened back. If it hadn't been for Diggle's determined stance after flailing in the tangling threads, Liz would have panicked. She took relief from Diggle's resolve and sucked in a breath before pointing dramatically at Jumpluff. "You can do it! Diggle! One more Rock Tomb!" She shouted, with her Aron readily charging and slamming into Jumpluff instead of juggling rocks this time. When Jumpluff hit the ground, Diggle vaulted off of its face behind one of the rocks she had used before. Each stone was smashed with all the force the little Aron could muster and crashing into the Jumpluff repeatedly until it went still.

Liz knelt down to receive her ailing Aron and rip the creeping roots out of the poor thing's skin. Diggle yowled at the rough treatment, but didn't bite or headbutt like Liz was expecting. She just curled up into Liz's arms and trembled as she was sprayed with Potions to treat her injuries. "Aww, there there baby. I'm sorry. I know." She whispered, holding Diggle close in her arms and gingerly stroking the iron Pokemon. Diggle was comfortable where she was, letting out a metallic hum as she was carried to get treated along with Fluffy at the Pokemon Center. Twice now Diggle had made quite the difference in a battle. She was a great battler, but that didn't seem to help the tears in Liz's eyes. "I'm sorry, baby. I know you could do better." She murmured, touching her nose to Diggle's forehead while one of those tears dripped onto her mask. The Aron whined softly, realizing that Liz felt completely inept as a trainer. She wasn't great, but Diggle wouldn't call her useless. She could have experimented further and then Jumpluff might have come back and defeated Diggle. Liz was being a more responsible trainer and accepting that sometimes she couldn't just play around with moves to see what worked. And the attacks she did use happened to work very well. Diggle nudged Liz's cheek in reassurance, hoping to help her trainer recognize that she was improving.

Celebrating with Fluffy was cut painfully short. Another, larger Spearow came flying in and landed in front of Fluffy. It hardly acknowledged the pair as if they meant nothing to the Pokemon. Until it realized the smell of its flock mate disappeared in Liz’s direction. “Another one? OK! Fluffy, you get...it...Fluffy? Fluffy, honey?” Liz faltered as the sparking Mareep stopped releasing electricity as she realized just how dangerous their new enemy was.

Liz wasted no time when the Spearow fixed her with a terrifying glare. Fluffy vanished in a flicker of light and Liz ran.
