When he'd defeated the first challenger, he discovered that she was not alone. There were three in all, with her being the first. He didn't understand exactly why they wanted to challenge him, unless they were representatives of the Elite Four scouting for potential challengers? He could tell from the difficulty of the first battle that this would not be easy. If she was the first, how hard would the next 2 be..?
The second, and older male, started the battle with a Ninetales. Julian decided to kick things off with a bang. Zekrom took the stage first, ready to throw down! Ninetales put up a good fight with Solar Beams and fire-based attacks, Julian was a bit worried for a moment until Zekrom's Stone Edge attacks quickly overwhelmed the Fire-Type Pokemon. The opponent returned his Pokemon to it's Pokeball and said something that Julian missed.
With one look shot back at Julian, he knew Zekrom would be staying in the fight for the time being. It worked out well, too, because the next enemy Pokemon was a Venemoth! By the time the Fire Blasts had cleared, and the sleeping Venemoth woke unexpectedly, they were both weakened from the battle. It looked like it would come down to one final attack from them both; Julian was confident Zekrom would win, which came as a shock when Venemoth baited the Fire Blast attack, dodged it, and blasted Zekrom with Sleep Powder. Two attacks later on the sleeping giant, and Venemoth had won!
Julian was stunned, but knew that he could play that game too. Noctowl flew out, put the moth to sleep, and used Dream Eater until it was nothing but a quaking bundle of moth on the ground. Mercifully, the Opponent Trainer returned Venemoth to it's Pokeball.
Next came Machamp vs Noctowl. The type advantage immediately went to Noctowl, and he took advantage of that without hesitation. This battle was over just as fast, but through different means. Julian activated Noctowl's Hypnotic Trigger attack, and then a Sky Attack and Moonblast later the super-strong Fighting-Type was out cold at it's Trainer's feet. Noctowl had taken a few hits that round, but refused to be recalled. Julian trusted his Pokemon to know their limitations and to think and act for themselves, so he allowed Noctowl to remain on the feild.
He immediately regretted that decision when the next Pokemon - a Kingler - beat Noctowl with a single Blizzard attack. Julian returned the owl, feeling guilty for allowing that to happen. Maybe he wasn't such a great Trainer after all, and didn't deserve to be facing people as top-notch as the Elite Four. This doubt was doubled in his mind when the Kingler doubled down and quickly knocked out the large and powerful Legendary, Lugia. How? Julian couldn't comprehend how a crab could be so absolutely powerful.
Fortunately the crab had taken a ton of damage from Lugia's Zap Cannon attacks. When Arcanine took to the battle, he one-shot Kingler and turned to face the Trainer for the next challenge. That ended up being a Tauros that was beaten in two exchanges of blows thanks to Arcanine's Reversal attack. Both Trainers recalled their Pokemon this time. Julian's Persian took on the man's Lapras. They fought hard, but in the end Persian couldn't roll with the punches and Lapras just wasn't seeming to take any damage!
He was confused, but decided to try something new. He revived Lugia and sent the legendary back out, and this time the fight also ended with Lapras victorious and Lugia knocked out. Julian returned Lugia not able to understand why the legendaries weren't able to stand up against every-day Pokemon. These had to be highly, highly trained Pokemon indeed. Then Typhlosion strolled forward and knocked Lugia out with a single Eruption attack. Lapras might have beaten two of his party, but Typhlosion never disappointed!
