Personality: To put it simply, Elfana dislikes people. She hates interacting with them. Any time spent on most other people is considered to be time wasted. She would much rather spend her days locked away in her laboratory working with her Pokemon and projects. She puts on a very cold, apathetic front. She functions under the assumption anything she admits is special to her will be taken away. Because of this she often refuses to express an interest in anything outside of her work and Pokemon. Getting close to her is not easy. If she thinks you're a threat to her in some way she will fight you throughout the entire process. Her attitude towards her Pokemon is entirely different. She's warm and caring. Her patience is endless. She does everything she can to make sure they are happy. The health and comfort of her patients are her top priorities. She doesn't care if the Pokemon is wild, has a Trainer, or is even part of a Team. She will take care of them. Their Trainers usually won't be met with the same kindness. There are rare occasions where her warmth can be extended to other people. Close friends and family get to see a more playful side of her. When interacting with her brother she is almost adorably childish. She has a weakness for cute things. If it's small and adorable she will probably love it even if she refuses to admit it.
History: Elfana's childhood isn't something she is fond of discussing. She doesn't remember her parents or the name of the region she's from. Her parents weren't around long enough for her to be able to recall anything about them. They were there and then one day they weren't. What actually happened to them didn't matter. She still had her twin. She remembered how he would pet her hair, whispering to her to comfort the frightened girl when he had to be every bit as scared at she was. Kana was always the stronger twin. They were two very small children alone in an environment that likely would have been the death of them. It came close to claiming Elfana. She was a small, frail child. Life as a vagrant had not been kind to her. She can still clearly recall the way the rain leaked through the cracks of the decrepit shack they had taken shelter in the night she became sick. She was cold, hungry, and so very tired. All she wanted was to go to sleep. The next morning she awoke to find herself cradled by something warm. A chance encounter with a Charmeleon trying to escape the rain had helped her survive the night. She had no idea why the Pokemon had agreed to help her. Other humans would pretend they hadn't seen the twins at all. After that night they had gained a permanent companion. For the first time in a long while Elfana felt like everything was going to be alright. They remained in the shack, their little family occasionally growing each time a new Pokemon would stumble upon them. The little Abra that lived with them would retrieve food for them. His ability to Teleport was very helpful. The Charmeleon would defend them and help keep them warm at night. Kana had become the best of friends with a small Riolu. Their antics would often get the two of them into trouble. For a while it appeared as if things were finally looking up for the unlucky twins but all good things had to come to an end.
Elfana had always been aware of how cruel people could be but it hadn't truly hit her how heartless they were until the night she found the Abra outside of their tiny home, his hands crushed to the point that they were almost unrecognizable. Someone had finally managed to catch the Psychic thief. The "punishment" they had decided on was unnecessary and harsh. How the sweet little Pokemon had made it home in such horrible condition was a mystery to her. Everything changed that night. They were no longer allowed to leave the shack without Charmeleon. She took care of the Abra's hands as best she could but she was only a child. There was only so much she could reasonably do for him. A few days later the Charmeleon led the little group down to the dock. He had been watching the boats since Abra returned. Elfana finally understood why. If they stayed where they were things would only get worse. He had decided they would be better off taking their chances in a different region. Unfortunately Charmeleon didn't get the chance to go with them. Sneaking the children on to a ship had not been an easy task. While hiding them he had accidentally alerted one of the Pokemon on board. That fiery tail was impossible to miss. While Elfana and Kana were fortunate enough to remain unnoticed, Charmeleon was separated from them.
Several days later they found themselves in a region they would later learn was called Unova. Their luck seemed to take a drastic turn. A passing Trainer noticed the state of their Abra and led them to a nearby Pokemon Center. They stayed there until Abra had recovered. His hands were permanently damaged and it was unlikely that he would ever regain full use of them. During their stay at the Pokemon Center the Trainer that had found them had taken an interest in the twins. She was a kind, older woman who had just enough patience to work with the twins. She took them in, adopting them when she was able to, and raised them as if they were her own children.
Elfana felt it best to maintain her distance from other people as she got older. She excelled in school but she was unable to bond with most other students. Human friends were unnecessary for what she wanted to do. She was going to become a doctor and she was going to help the Pokemon that had done so much for her. Kana did not approve of her need to avoid others but he did his best to support her whenever he could. Someone had to look out for her. With his help she was able to establish her own lab soon after she got out of school where she could work on whatever projects appealed to her. Prosthetics were one of the few things that consistently held her interest. Her dream was to one day make something that would allow her friend to be able to use his hands again. While Kana decided to explore the world as a Trainer, Elfana isolated herself. As the years passed her few human interactions were limited to clients, her bother, and her mother- whom she would still leave her lab to visit on occasion. When she passed away the trips outside of the lab stopped entirely. Elfana seemed content to let herself rot away in that lab until one day she received a letter from Kana. He had a request and she was curious. Her twin rarely asked her for anything. He wanted her to leave her lab and take the Gym challenge in another region, insisting the time in the outside world would do her some good. After each Gym she would be met by one of his Pokemon with another letter for her. If she could beat all eight Gyms he would give her something special and pay for one of the new machines she wanted for her lab.
She was tempted to write him back and reject the offer. She could pay for her own equipment if she really wanted something and she didn't care for whatever silly trinket he picked up while traveling that he thought she would like. Something felt off about it though. Kana's refusal to answer his phone wasn't helping anything either. As much as she would rather continue to hide away, her curiosity was peaked. The next morning she found herself getting on a plane to Sinnoh. She has no idea what Kana has planned for her and she's already regretting leaving her lab. The sooner she beats the Gyms, the sooner she can lecture her brother and go home.
Appearance/Physical Description: She is tall and curvaceous. Her skin is pale and seemingly incapable of retaining any color no matter how much time she spends in the sun. The streaks in her hair were a result of her attempting to make herself look less intimidating to a younger Pokemon that was in her care. Something colorful clearly cannot be scary. When her hair grew out she never bothered to do anything with the faded dyed portions. More often than not she will wear her hair in a messy bun or ponytail. Despite her aversion to leaving her lab she is in great shape. She exercises with her Pokemon every other morning. Her line of work is not without risk. Sometimes Pokemon can be hostile- especially those that have been hurt by humans. She's been injured plenty of times in her attempts to help and has several scars as a result. Most are small and have faded over the years. There is one that begins midway down her hip and curves around to her stomach. This was the result of an encounter with a particularly disturbed Scyther. The scar is unpleasant to look at but it doesn't effect her daily life.
