Deep in the forests of central Johto where only the truly interested venture, an ancient set of ruins remains in preservation known as the Ruins of Alph. While this spot is mainly a tourist attraction, it is home to many a scientist who have dedicated their lives to figuring out the ancient history left by these ruins, a civilization long lost to our knowledge that used the Unknown Language. Anyone is welcome to peruse the ruins for themselves, though are advised against touching any of the scriptures on the walls in fear of loosing their preservation. No one is quite sure still what these ruins are or what they stood for in their prime, but there are still many secrets hidden deep within it's confines that are waiting to be unlocked.

Elizabeth Morgan To say Liz was unenthusiastic about a trip to some ruins was an understatement. She fiddled with the Aerial Ace TM curiously while trying to put the thought of going to the haunted ruins into the back of her mind. It was enjoyable to travel with Julian, though she did wish it wasn't to such a place. She had no place to complain after agreeing to go, so go she did. Astro was buzzing around, unbearably impatient after being told that the move Pidgeotto used was available for him to learn! He would buzz quick laps from Liz to some random distraction and then back before harassing her for the TM again. He thought he could eat it, or attach it to himself and automatically learn the technique. He even tried to follow it into the disc slot Liz discovered on Dexter. That got him smacked on the forehead. "Astro! Calm down, boy." Liz chided, shaking her head at the eager little Ledyba. "I know just as much as you do. Maybe even less. I'll get you when it works. Yea?" Astro looked sorely disappointed, but he chirped affirmation of the task ahead. Don't make Liz angry. Liz, in the meantime, was struggling with booting the item she got. Once the disc finally engaged, she called Astro back from the bush he'd decided to inspect. He nearly flew straight into the red-haired trainer without a moment's hesitation.
Astro was given Dexter to watch and practice the move with, much as that seemed like a horrible idea. The Ledyba floated around gleefully while practicing mimicking the motions and maneuvers necessary. Liz couldn't help but smile at her Pokemon's joy to learn a new technique. "How far is this, anyway?" She asked, calling out to Julian and Noctowl to get word on where they were headed. She didn't have to wait long to find out, but she was curious...and felt like she had been neglecting her partner during her campaign to solve the mystery of Falkner's TMs. At least she had chosen the right move, she was half-expecting Astro to get confused, land, and then fall asleep per the instruction program. Liz ducked under more than one flyby from her excited ladybug before he finally came back with the Pokedex and coyly returned it. She blinked as bits of shattered disc were dumped from the device, making her stare first at it before turning the stare on Astro. "How did you...?" Astro flinched, expecting to get smacked for breaking the toy, but instead got a reassuring pat for his troubles. "Come on. Show off your new move!" She offered, getting Astro right off the ground and performing aerial acrobatics before swooping past Liz and floating up behind her. When they finally reached the Ruins of Alph, Liz had nearly forgotten that she didn't want to go. Eerie as ancient ruins looked, she found herself lost gazing at the wonders of an ancient civilization. She really wanted to know some things about the world. So much to see, so little to understand.Pack: Rare Candy x3, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry, Pecha Berry, TM19 Roost, TM40 Aerial Ace, Great Ball Pokemon Encounter: 17/7 Wild Encounter Charged! Julian Malcolm
Julian was a guy, and the amount of things they understand about girls is amazingly low. He mistook her unhappy attitude about the ruins, assuming she was till unhappy about not being able to win the battle how she wanted to. It was a decent walk to the ruins, and would take them about an hour to get there. Half-way there, he decided they could all use a break. He pulled out a couple of wrapped-up sandwiches from his bag, gave one to her and sat down to eat the other himself. During this time, he enjoyed himself watching Ledyba disappear with the Pokedex. He started to 'say' something about how that may not be a good idea, but thought better of making her unhappy again.
Ledyba, or Astro, returned shortly after and returned the Pokedex. Once ejected, they saw the TM in pieces. "Well, looks like nobody else is learning that move." He chuckled, watching them with interest. So, Ledyba had learned a new move. This would be interesting. One thing was for sure, it would come in handy against Bugsy. Finishing his sandwich, he rose to his feet and stretched before smoothing out his clothes. This time, Liz would lead the way. They were close enough by now that they could see the ruins standing alone on a distant hill. Noctowl and Pidgeot flew above them all, stretching their wings and enjoying the nice weather and sun on their feathers.
Persian and Arcanine, however, were a different story. The dog kept trying to get the feline to play, but Persian wanted nothing to do with him. Even the usual swipe of claws against his nose wouldn't deter him for long, he was simply in too great a mood. Julian couldn't tell what had him so riled up though. Perhaps it was excess energy from the direct sunlight, or the fact that he hadn't had a good battle in a long time. Well, there should be a lot of Pokemon around these ruins. Whether ghosts, or Pokemon who took advantage of man-made structures and lack of man. Julian, who had been walking behind Liz, found his eyes drawn to her butt. It honestly distracted him enough that once, he even tripped over a tree root. He waved off her help, smiling and playing it off as if he'd been looking up at the birds overhead.
Well, soon enough they made it to the ruins and Julian, much more adventurous than the new Trainer, grabbed her hand and led her into the shade of the crumbling structure ("There's bound to be cool stuff laying around!"). Little did he realize that centuries of Trainers and Explorers would have likely picked the place clean ages ago. The runes and symbols on the wall interested him most. Every time he touched one, a small black Pokemon would appear behind them. It might make a little squeeking noise and vanish when they turn to look.. only to reappear again. Julian, who couldn't hear the noises, just kept focused on the strange markings built into the wall of the ruins.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz was taken aback by Julian's sudden excitement, accepting his aggressive approach and smiling lightly. She hadn't expected this kind of reaction, and that made the ruins much less scary for her. She took the lead without hesitating while Astro fluttered along with them. He grew tired after all of that excitement and landed on Liz's head. She looked up as Astro looked down before giving a soft thrum of approval. She could only accept the leadership from that point, given her own Ledyba's certainty. "Well...follow me!" She declared with a broad smile. She started into the ruins without a thought about what leading might bring.
It was Julian's fascination with the text that made Liz remember why she didn't want to come here. The black shapes were always just out of sight, but never out of earshot. The noises made her stiffen up and spin around. Astro perked with each sound, thrumming his wings and spinning in different directions to attack each Unown as they appeared, only to lose them as they vanished again. He struck out to punch one of them when he finally caught it in the midst of appearing, only for it to vanish again and cause him to collide with the wall next to Julian. Some of the old stone began to crumble. Luckily it was none of the text. Astro slid down the wall with spinning eyes and shook himself off once he touched down. He looked tired, more frustrated that he couldn't fight. He was sure he could defeat these things if they would just hold still! Liz was getting more frantic with each squeaky appearance, especially since she was not quite as quick as her Ledyba. She was whimpering and making shrill squeals of distress each time she could hear one, not even trying to see them anymore. By the time Julian was finished examining one piece of wall, Liz had fitful tears on her cheeks and a look pleading for mercy from him. "Julian~!" Liz whined, hoping for some kind of comfort from the evil things she forgot he couldn't hear.Pack: Rare Candy x3, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry, Pecha Berry, TM19 Roost, Great Ball Pokemon Encounter: 18/7 Wild Encounter Charged! Julian Malcolm Unbeknownst to Julian, the strange black letters - which may have predated written word itself - were having a lot of fun playing with the new Humans. There wasn't much to do for them. Wild Pokemon always avoided this place, and the only time they were set free was when a random Trainer, Hiker, or Scientist ventured this deep into the ruins. A particularly courageous little R ventured forward, tapping Julian on the back of the head. Well, that was hardly a decent thing for Liz to do! -he thought to himself, turning to look at her. Well, Liz would have seen the Pokemon as it approached Julian, and he could tell by the expression on her face that something was wrong.
"Wha..." He began, but broke off and froze. She wasn't looking at him after all, she was staring at a point just over his shoulder. Something, it would seem, was right behind him. He slowly turned to look at the Unown, which this time did not vanish from sight. It started at him curiously and blinked it's single eye. He didn't scream, not that he would have if he actually could. Once he got over the initial shock of the thing being so close, he was engulfed with curiosity of his own. One seemed just as curious about the other, and Julian knew that he wanted to add this Pokemon to his collection.
He fumbled around in his pocket for a moment, finally finding the minimized Pokeball. A single tap to the center brought it to it's full size, and he brought out Tank with a flash of bright red light. It had been a while since Tank had been in any battles, Julian had replaced him ages ago but he wanted to see if the giant still had what it takes to win a battle. "Alright, Tank." He began, translated by the Noctowl who was somewhere in the Ruins with them, though in another room or area. "Let's see what you've learned."
Tank, wanting to show off a bit, used a new move called Leaf Storm. It reminded Julian of a much more powerful Razor Leaf, dealing quite a lot more damage in it's wake. The razor-sharp leaves engulfed the Unown, and when they had finally settled on the ancient stone floor the Unown was unconscious among the littered leaves. Julian, his new goal of capturing as many Pokemon as possible, decided that he needed this rare Pokemon. He threw out a single Pokeball, which shook a few times and then lay still upon the ground. He raced forward to retrieve it, and when he looked back at Liz to show off it was suddenly his turn to freeze solid, eyes wide and mouth open. More than a dozen Unown had appeared, floating behind Liz and glaring at them. They didn't like that one of their own had been captured, and they intended to chase the pair out of the ruins.

Elizabeth Morgan Julian's game with the wild Unown was not as exciting for Liz as it was for the deaf boy. Little did she know there was a group of Unown floating behind her as she watched the interaction. Tank's arrival made her nearly jump out of her skin, the trio behind her reacting in a similar fashion. The Unown were like Liz's shadows for now. She had to brace herself against the wicked Leaf Storm and the Unown deflected the flying leaves with their psychic powers, protecting even Liz as her friend hurt theirs. Liz frowned at the way Julian had suddenly attacked. She got why, but she couldn't accept that as an answer. She was ready to chide him over the aggressive behavior when she noticed the way he reacted to looking at her. She blinked, and her expression softened as she planted her hands on her hips. "Oh, come on. I'm not that...scary...?" She trailed off as it occurred to her that she wasn't the one making him nervous. The tension in Liz became painfully apparent until she heaved out a sigh and looked wearily at Julian. "There's more than one." She stated, knowing that the only thing that would scare her more than one of these freakish Pokemon would be a bunch of these freakish Pokemon!
It was at this point that Liz realized there wasn't much point in her doing anything now. She clicked her heels together while she turned, staring down the frightening mass of living script. She took in a deep breath before throwing her arms up and shouting "GRIMER!" at them. It worked about as well as one might expect. The Unown who had been mimicking Liz traded looks between them, then Liz had to run. "Why did you have to beat up the first thing you met!? Not everybody likes that as a greeting!" She cried, running past Julian if he wasn't already running himself. For Astro, the experience was quite exhilarating. He heroically flew up and attacked one of the many Unown, even taking out his target. He grossly underestimated his enemy, though, and came flying to the front of the pack when he was blown away by a Hidden Power barrage. Liz had to jump to catch Astro, carring him while frantically looking for a place to hide from all of the Unown Julian had agitated.Pack: Rare Candy x3, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry, Pecha Berry, TM19 Roost, Great Ball Pokemon Encounter: 19/7 Wild Encounter Charged! Julian Malcolm Having made it to the mouth of the ruin's entrance, Julian sat hunched over, hands on his knees and catching his breath with a huge grin on his face, looking at her. The Unown hadn't followed them past the barrier between ruin and safety, so they were able to regain their composure here. "That was fun!" He exclaimed, words not hindered at all by his heavy breathing since they were telepathic. Wait, he'd just remembered something. He looked back at the ruins, worry clearly showing on his face. He smiled again, however, when Noctowl came flying out of the ruins, blasting his way through the Unown while glowing with the power of a Sky Attack. It had been the only way for him to force his way past all of them at once.
He soared over their heads, and up, up, up! Before they knew it, he was a dot against the bright sun. He'd had enough of the old ruins, and longed for the freedom of the skies once more. Julian was now returning his attention to Liz, who looked as though she dearly wanted to scold him but couldn't breathe well enough to do so just yet. "Oh, calm down." He smiled in what he thought was a playful manner, but little did he know that you should never say such a thing to a woman who was unhappy with you.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz was on her hands and knees once she felt the immediate dread of Unown vanish. Astro was on the ground underneath the woman, breathing just as hard even though he hadn't been the one running. When Julian tried to calm the flustered redhead, he would only have one small moment to realize he'd made a big mistake. "You..." Bright green flashed a dangerous fire before Liz jumped up and slapped her friend upside the head. "You jerk!" She screamed, huffing angrily as she still hadn't quite caught her breath yet. Even with the stinging on the back of his head, Julian might have trouble dealing with a panting woman by the way her chest heaved with each breath. "They could have killed us! They tried to kill us! Can't you boys think of anything besides fighting!!!" She chewed him out further for good measure, though most of what she shouted made no sense or wasn't anything she meant. She was scared, not just of the Unown haunting the ruins, but what could have happened if they hadn't got away. She was scared Julian would get hurt. And her Pokemon.
Noctowl came racing out of the ruins and made Liz fall over even though he cleared her head easily enough. She had tumbled over onto her side, moaning out in pain as she slowly sat herself up. She wanted to be angry, but Noctowl didn't look any happier having been ditched like he was. Instead she offered an apologetic wave to the giant owl, calling her thanks up to him for dispersing the Unown even though he was probably reading her mind. It wasn't much, but she could appreciate the Pokemon's decisions relating to getting the hell out of there. Liz finally pulled herself off of the floor again, looking to the ground as she dusted herself off. "Wait...Astro?" She looked up and grew frantic the moment she realized her Ledyba had wandered off. "Astro!? Astro, come back here! Where are you? Astro!" She cupped her hands and shouted into the ruins, thinking she had dropped him even though she knew he had been at her feet mere moments ago. What Astro wound up doing Julian might be able to enjoy for a moment, but only because he knew he wouldn't get hit for it. Liz caught a glimpse of a pale glow coming from the Ruins corridor. It was followed by the low thrum of Astro's wings as he gradually came into view with a ghostly appearance cast on him by the Unown Z he had met. It was Astro's idea, of course, and this little Pokemon had been happy to oblige. It seemed like a funny prank...until Liz started crying. "A-Astro...I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Astro..!" She pleaded with what she thought was the departed spirit of her Ledyba. Her voice broke with each word, the trauma of losing a Pokemon taking a greater toll than anyone might have first realized. Rather than break character, Astro thought she was playing along and attempted to rush his trainer while making horrible wailing noises. Even as she cried, Liz yelped in fear and staggered back before she was overwhelmed by the mixed emotions of the situation and collapsed once more. Astro looked down at Liz, no longer amused by his gag now that she had blacked out. He looked worried as the ghost-like light faded from view and he glanced from Unown to Liz and then up to Julian. He was the one who gave Astro to Liz. Astro kind of saw him like a big brother, he would know what to do!Pack: Rare Candy x3, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry, Pecha Berry, TM19 Roost, Great Ball Pokemon Encounter: 20/7 Wild Encounter Charged! Julian Malcolm
Julian had been around Pokemon a lot longer than Liz, he understood the mechanics of this world perhaps a little too well. Whatever other activists may say about it, Pokemon have perfectly evolved for battle. Tank and Arcanine had been so itching for a fight that the Execcutor jumped at the chance. Julian was confident in his team, and believed they could do... well, almost anything. He watched her scolding him, glaring at her as she smacked him. She then began to panic, believing Ledyba to still be inside the ruins. Julian could have corrected her and saved her the stress, but he was still a bit poor-tempered from the strike to his head. What he did not expect, however, was for Liz to pass out on the spot. He raised an eyebrow, not sure how to react to this. Pokemon being knocked unconscious was one thing, but he was no Doctor; he didn't know how to handle it. "Hmm." He thought, calling out Arcanine. He hoisted her up, throwing her over Arcanine's back. They retreated a safe distance until Julian felt they were okay to set up camp away from the watchful eyes of wild Pokemon. Liz would wake to a crackling fire assisted by occasional flames from Arcanine, who was laying next to Liz and keeping her warm. Julian was watching Liz over the fire, thinking to himself. He knew she could be mean, but that was just uncalled for. -Backpack- Items - Pokeball (x), Ultra Ball (4), Potion (x), Full Restore (2), Revive (4), Max Revive (3), Lava Cookie (3), Blue Flute, Questionable Drink, Fire Stone. Elizabeth Morgan Astro wanted to bring the Unown with him, but it was already gone by the time he even looked back. He buzzed along beside Arcanine, flying as quickly as he could manage to keep up with his trainer and her rescuers. He buzzed and gestured at Julian once they settled down, indicating he had no intention of scaring Liz that badly. He was also trying to ask about why she cried, hoping Julian held insight the Ledyba lacked. He was sure the human would know why Astro's human had reacted so badly. What else did humans do besides know stuff? They were practically Psychic Type in the Bug's perception. Astro settled down on Liz's chest when they stopped to rest, watching her face anxiously for any change. For a clearly energetic and impulsive creature, he remained still until she finally woke up. The Ledyba cried out excitedly turning to alert Julian she was awake. Liz herself tried to hide in Arcanine's fur at first, soaking in the comfortable warmth and also not wanting to face the two things that happened. She'd gone off on Julian and hit him, and she thought Astro was gone. One of those worries obviously affected her more than the other, but she still felt bad. Especially when she realized that the fur she was resting in belonged to one of his Pokemon. He had every reason to be vindictive and he still made sure the girl was comfortable.
Astro's buzzes made her jump, making it impossible to pretend she was asleep still. She looked up to see her Ledyba weaving back and forth and making wild gestures to show his appreciation that she was OK. "Astro?" She questioned curiously, reaching out to touch the Bug Pokemon as she didn't believe he was still there. He landed on her belly now, gesturing again and making enough sounds to let anything around know there were people here. In spite of her poor communcation skills, Liz managed to get that Astro had tried to mess with her and was never in any trouble. She smiled widely, relieved her Pokemon wasn't really dead. That didn't save him from the knuckles. "Why would you do such a thing? Astro, that was awful!" Liz shouted at her Ledyba, bonking him on the head with her fist as she scolded the Ledyba for his cruel joke. "I was really worried. Why did you wander away? You could have been really hurt." She was angry, and she could be violent, but she cared a lot. It wasn't the best trait, but it was something in the redhead's favor. A full figure didn't hurt her odds either. She gave her Ledyba a kiss on top of his head where she'd just punched him, cradling Astro in her arms. She looked across the fire at Julian, a dim shame in her eyes as she was reluctant to admit she'd done wrong.
"You could have been hurt, too." She stated finally, as if that somehow excused her behavior at the entrance. She knew it didn't, it was easy to tell that by looking at her. "You don't have to fight everything, you know. You can make friends without battles." Sure Pokeballs would tend to break, and Pokemon were much harder to secure without weakening them, but Liz felt strongly about the way people approached all of this. She felt like Battling was too prominent. She got up, coming around the fire to Julian after giving Arcanine a kiss and a pat and a soft "thank you." She sat beside Julian on the ground, avoiding eye contact again even as she kept her face turned toward him so he could read her lips when she spoke next. "I...shouldn't have hit you. That's no better..." She confessed finally. It was hard to admit that she'd made a mistake, and she added to the poor apology by leaning over and kissing Julian behind his ear. "I'm sorry. Promise me you won't get yourself hurt. Please?" She asked, looking to the deaf young man with a small frown. Knowing her reaction was no better, Liz still felt it necessary to react harshly for the sake of protecting the people she cared about. She would rather get into trouble a thousand times for hitting someone than losing them over some small issue that she let happen again and again.Pack: Rare Candy x3, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry, Pecha Berry, TM19 Roost, Great Ballx2 Pokemon Encounter: 21/7 Wild Encounter Charged! Julian Malcolm
He had expected her to feel bad about how she'd behaved, and he decided to accept her apology before she'd even began. That didn't stop him from letting her stammer through the apology, however. That was worth it. He nodded his head at last, and gave her a smile. "Are you all rested up?" He asked, mercifully changing the subject. She must have had plenty of rest there after all, and he was ready to get a move on. "If so, I think we should move on to the next Town." Unless they wanted to trek pointlessly backwards, they would have to fly there. It would be her first time on the back of Pidgeot. "We're going to have to travel by sky." He warned her, refusing to take the extra half a day's march back.

Elfana Aroway Elfana was wrong. So, SO very wrong. Their trip to the Ruins of Alph had started out well enough. Pantalaimon was running along outside, stopping occasionally to study a particularly interesting rock or structure. Elfana and Walter were following a comfortable distance behind him. She could see if the Turtwig got himself into trouble but he had plenty of room to explore on his own. When Pantalaimon stopped, so did they. She assumed he had found something to look at as he had the past few times so she didn't question it. She really should have questioned it. When she did think to look at her Turtwig, she froze. He was conversing what she could only describe as the incarnation of everything horrible in the world. "Pantalaimon, get away from that thing!" She snapped as she slowly backed away from the Natu. The Turtwig was startled. His trainer had never yelled at him before. When the bird looked in her direction, Elfana fled into the ruins. Why she thought that going inside would offer her protection from the bird was anyone's guess. It was all she had to work with though. Pantalaimon and Walter weren't far behind her. If his trainer thought the Natu was bad news, who was he to question her? She hadn't lied to him before! Elfana had enough sense to avoid touching the ruin walls when she finally collected herself enough to stop running. She thought it odd that the scientists that had dedicated their lives to studying the ruins hadn't put any sort of guards or warnings in place that would prevent people from touching the carved stone. Their stupidity and the scientist's negligence was going to result in the scriptures wearing away. She didn't comment on her sudden panic attack. Walter knew of her hatred for Natu and Xatu and didn't question her as a result. He prevented Pantalaimon from bothering her until she had calmed down, distracting the Grass Type by trying to read some of the carvings with him.
She was the first to notice the small Pokemon that kept appearing near them. It observed the group before hiding again, popping up in a new spot moments later. She wasn't bothered by this. If anything she was fascinated by the odd Pokemon and how similar it was to the text on the walls. This fascination was what caused her to decide to capture it instead of leaving it be. When it next popped up, she called for her Turtwig to use Razor Leaf. Slow as his reaction was (he hadn't noticed the Pokemon until then), the attack still hit. When the strange Pokemon fell, she threw a Pokeball at it. It was caught without too much of a fight. "I wonder if there are more of these around here." She murmured to herself as she picked up the Pokeball. This one appeared to be a V. She felt safe in assuming there was one for every other letter of the alphabet. She hugged the Pokeball to her chest and smiled at the thought. She wanted the full collection.

Elfana Aroway Pantalaimon was prepared this time- though this Unown set the bar painfully low. Elfana wasn't entirely sure if it had noticed them or if it just didn't care. It watched them with what could only be described as utter indifference. She might have mistaken the floating Pokemon for dead if it hadn't blinked. "Er...Razor Leaf?" Asking Pantalaimon to attack this one almost felt bad. Almost. Pantalaimon unleashed the single weakest Razor Leaf she had seen from him. Apparently he felt the same way about attacking the Unown. The Pokemon dropped. Elfana was convinced it had decided that it no longer felt like floating as none of the leaves looked like they had hit him. She threw a Pokeball at it, although reluctantly. Part of her really didn't want a lazy Pokemon. The rest was afraid it would starve if she left it alone. The Unown hadn't had the will to hold itself in the air. She doubted it would bother tracking down food for itself. It was better off this way. At least that was what she told herself as she picked up its Pokeball. She was going to need a bag specifically for the Unown Pokeballs at this rate. Or maybe she could send them back to her lab...That was something she would have to sort out later. They moved deeper into the Ruins, searching for more of the letter Pokemon.

Elfana Aroway Elfana didn't have to wait long before she encountered her next Unown. The Pokemon had tried to attack her Turtwig soon after she had caught the previous Unown. It missed its attack but it succeeded in startling the Turtwig. In his panic he hit the Unown with Razor Leaf, causing it to fall. Elfana wasted no time in throwing a Pokeball at it. This one put up more of a fight. It came very close to breaking free but in the end the Pokeball dinged and it was captured. She collected its Pokeball before checking on Pantalaimon. The Turtwig was unharmed but he was looking around nervously, as if he expected to be attacked a second time. She sat with him on the floor for a while, patting his shell until he calmed down. He was perfectly safe. Some retaliation should be expected given that they were collecting some of the Unown in the area but from what she had seen none of them were strong enough to do any real damage to Pantalaimon. She would have sent Kiro out to help with the collection process if she thought they were a threat. After Pantalaimon relaxed, she picked him up and sent out Liandry. Pantalaimon needed a break. The Quilava could deal with the next few Unown.

Elfana Aroway The Unown were becoming more difficult to find as they traveled deeper into the ruins. She had figured that would happen eventually. Word was bound to spread that a trainer was capturing some of the letter Pokemon. The more cautious Unown would hide. There were a couple of brave or curious Unown that still popped up near her but they avoided staying in sight long enough for Liandry to attack them. One particularly curious Y decided to risk getting a bit too close. This resulted in it catching the full weight of a Quilava with its face. Liandry saw her opportunity to pounce and she took it. The Quilava knocked the Unown out of the air and on to the ground. She kept it there until Elfana threw a Pokeball at it, then kept a paw on the Pokeball until it signaled that the Unown had been caught. She nudged the ball towards her trainer. After it had been retrieved, Liandry found herself being petted. "Catching them is becoming tricky. Excellent work, Liandry. Thank you for managing it capture one." The Quilava was afraid the flames on her back would ignite due to how excited she was. Being praised by her trainer was always a good feeling. She blushed a bit before continuing on down the hallway, looking for another Unown for Elfana. She had managed to make her trainer happy! If she could find another Unown maybe Elfana would be extra happy with her and she could be carried like Pantalaimon.

Elfana Aroway Elfana knew the next Unown they found would be their last for now. She would need to return to the Ruins at a later date and search for more. The short amount of time they had spent there had resulted in her building up a decent collection. She was happy with what they had found. Elfana noticed the final Unown before Liandry. It was hard to miss considering it had appeared almost directly in front of her, stopping her in her tracks. The Unown would not let her proceed further. She glanced around behind it, noting that the floor in the area appeared unstable. There was a good chance she would drop straight through it if she wasn't careful. She called Liandry back to her before the Quilava got too far ahead of her. Liandry got her wish. She was picked up and held close to Elfana with Pantalaimon. Letting the Quilava walk on her own in such a dangerous area didn't sit well with her. She was safer if she was carrying her. "Thank you." She took a slow step back, paying close attention to the floor. The Unown remained close, stopping her again whenever it decided the spot she was stepping on wasn't safe. It slowly guided her back to stable ground. Elfana set Pantalaimon in Walter's arms, not wanting to let either of the younger Pokemon walk alone until they were out of the Ruins. "I don't know why you decided to help us but I appreciate it. That could have ended terribly for us." As much as she wanted to expand her collection, she couldn't convince herself to ask one of her Pokemon to attack the Unown after it had helped them. Instead she took out a Pokeball and offered it to it. "You're welcome to come along with us if you would like. It's your choice." She was perfectly comfortable with letting the kind Unown go if it chose not to follow her. To her surprise, the Pokemon pressed itself against the Pokeball. It shook once before pinging that the Pokemon had been captured. She released him from the ball immediately after. "I don't suppose you would want to walk with us?" The letter Pokemon didn't try to return to its ball. It was perfectly content with floating next to her.
Their trip to the ruins ended with the capture of the friendly Unown. Elfana's group exited the ruins and continued on to the next town.

Briar Bellerose Briar could not have been happier by the time they arrived at the ruins. The trip to the ruins had been so much fun! Bidi, on the other hand, was exhausted. Slate had started running the moment they left Goldenrod City. He had paced himself so Bidi could keep up but even then the Absol struggled to run alongside the Arcanine. Slate eventually stopped to let Bidi crawl on to his back but the Absol still needed some more time to recover fully. Briar patted Bidi's head before climbing down from Slate's back. Rosalyn perched herself on top of Slate's head and grinned as she looked out at the ruins. "Exploring ruins makes us real adventurers, doesn't it?" Slate grunted. Visiting a tourist destination didn't exactly make them explorers. The Sobble was so enthusiastic though and he didn't want to ruin that for her. "Where should we visit first?" They certainly weren't lacking in structures to choose from. Briar was having a tough time deciding which way to go. Fortunately for her, Rosalyn wasn't as indecisive. The Sobble eagerly pointed to one of the closest ruin entrances. Briar didn't need to be told twice. She started making her way over to the entrance with her Pokemon in tow. ElfyTeam Neo-Rocket Grunt RebeccaAs Briar made her way into the entrance of the ruins, she would easily be able to hear the angry and frustrated shouts of a female somewhere within the ruins. "Let it go, you Pest!" The voice shouted angrily, only to hear more shouts and grunts as they began growing louder and louder, or rather closer. Soon a young woman came sliding into view, wearing the full uniform of Team Neo-Rocket. She was holding onto a slab of stone with both hands, as she had both her heels dug into the ground. Despite how heavy the slab must have been, it was what was dragging her around the corner, being psychically pulled by 3 Unown that were swarming around her. "It's mine! I found it!" She shouted at them, using one hand to swing at the unown. This was her mistake as the unown twisted it out of her grip, and began very quickly whirling back around the corner. The Grunt stumbled a few steps before letting out an angry scream, knowing the Unown had to have warped far away already. She stomped a foot and looked over to the light pink haired female that had witnessed her failure. "Enjoying the show?!" She shouted at Briar and her Pokemon. She pulled out a Pokeball, gritting her teeth as she marched forward. "At least I can take out my frustration on you lot." She huffed. Briar Bellerose Briar didn't know what to make of the sight before her. At first she had assumed the shouts of frustration were at a Pokemon that just didn't want to be caught. She figured they would end soon after the Pokemon made its escape. Briar tried to ignore the noise but that quickly became impossible. She watched the odd letter shaped Pokemon in quiet awe. They were not something she had ever seen before! She had wanted to get a better look at them but they vanished after they had retrieved the slab the young woman had stolen from them. Briar didn't realize how potentially dangerous her situation was until the Grunt turned on her. It took her a moment to place the weird outfit but when she did she quickly moved to hide behind Slate. Briar was on the verge of freezing up. She couldn't say anything in response. Bidi acted first. The Absol jumped down from Slate's back and growled- though he didn't sound anywhere near as vicious as the angry Arcanine. Slate had not taken too kindly to being threatened. Bidi wanted to say something to maybe get him to calm down but before he could he found himself trying to dodge the Zubat that was determined to swoop down at him. Bidi managed to avoid being bitten too badly. The Zubat got a lucky bite in when he swatted it out of the air. The Absol knocked it back towards the Grunt and hoped that would be the end of it. No such luck. A moment later he found himself staring down a Venonat. His fight with the Bug didn't go nearly as well. He managed to get the first hit in before finding himself covered in a layer of poisonous powder. The Absol shuddered and whined. He really disliked Bugs. The sound of his discomfort finally pulled Briar's attention back to the battle. Bidi had just managed to knock out the Venonat when Briar called him back. The Absol hesitated but obliged. Fighting while poisoned would only do more harm than good. Briar collected her Sobble from the top of Slate's head before urging the Arcanine forward. He didn't need to be told twice. As soon as he stepped forward he had an Ekans trying to wrap herself around his front paw. "Get off of me." Slate snarled and reared back before slamming the Ekans down against the hard floor of the ruins. She continued to try to coil around him but in the end he clamped his jaws around her and pulled her away. The snake was thrown at the Grunt. She only just avoided getting hit by her own Pokemon. The last Pokemon sent out was...a Gloom. Slate looked almost amused by the sight of the Grass Type. "Really?" He prepared to pounce on the poor Gloom until Briar finally called for an attack. "Flame Wheel!" A moment later the battle was over. The one burst of flame was enough to knock out the Gloom.
Slate took a step towards the Grunt, his ears pinned back and his fangs bared. He didn't want to give her a chance to try anything else. The only thing that stopped him from pouncing was Briar's trembling hand gripping on to his fur. The Grunt hadn't stopped yelling but Briar didn't care to try to make sense of her angry rambling. "Let's go. Please. Before something worse happens." They had won the battle but Briar was still a nervous wreck. There could have been more Team Rocket members around! Slate glared at the Grunt for a few seconds longer before letting out a sigh. "Okay." He lowered himself enough for Briar to climb back on to his back with Rosalyn then fled from the ruins. Bidi wasn't far behind. Putting the Grunt in her place hadn't been worth the additional stress it would have caused Briar.

Briar Bellerose Briar requested Slate stop before they left the ruins entirely. The grunt they had encountered was well behind them so she doubted they would need to worry about dealing with her anymore. She had been so excited to explore the ruins and she really didn't want to let one bad encounter mess that up for her. After some consideration, she climbed down from Slate's back and began to walk on her own. "We'll find another area to explore. Somewhere with more people." The Ruins of Alph were a tourist attraction. They couldn't all be as hostile as that girl had been! "Where do you guys think we should go first?" Briar looked to her Arcanine and her Absol. Bidi was still trying to catch his breath after being stuck struggling to keep up with Slate again. The Absol had decided to lay down where he was until he recovered. This left Slate in charge of choosing a direction. He nudged Briar in the direction he wanted to go before beginning to walk. Being the leader was fine by him. He had chosen the quietest direction. Briar had wanted an area with more tourists but he felt that minimizing social interactions would be better for her.
With Slate in the lead, exploring the ruins was going well. He had it a point to steer Briar away from any people he head nearby. The Arcanine ended up letting his guard down to listen to Bidi's explanation of some jumbled up picturing on the wall. "These bits need to be slid around and they would make an image. I'm sure of it!" The Absol muttered more to himself than Slate. He wanted to test his theory but he was too afraid of damaging the image. Slate was nowhere near as concerned about preserving the ruins. He reached a paw out and was just about to slide one of the slabs when a voice rang out behind them. "Aren't you two just the cutest~!" Slate and Bidi both turned their heads to see an elderly woman absolutely fawning over Briar and the Sobble in her arms. "Th-thank you?" Briar had turned a bright shade of red and was trying to make herself look as small as possible- which wasn't difficult. Briar was 5'8" and the old woman was still taller than she was. The old woman had cupped Rosalyn's cheeks in her hands and seemed to be completely enamored by her. The Sobble didn't mind in the slightest. She was gleefully soaking up all of the attention directed towards her. "Are you from Galar, dearie? Sobbles are a Galar starter, aren't they?" Briar nodded a bit when she decided the woman probably wasn't looking for a battle like the other girl had been. "Y-yes. I'm from C-Circhester." The woman's face lit up when Briar mentioned Circhester. "Such a beautiful city~! And such lovely weather too." Briar didn't think the constant cold could be considered "lovely" but she wasn't about to argue with her. "What's your name, dearie? Mine is Natalie." The old woman's warm smile was settling Briar's nerves a tiny bit but she still wasn't sure what to make of the situation. At least introducing herself was easy. "I'm Briar. And that's Rosalyn." The Sobble in her arms waved at their new friend.
Natalie was about to say something else but before she could she was cut off by a tug at her skirt. A concerned looking Azumarill was trying to get her attention. "There you are! I was wondering where you wandered off to." The look on the Azumarill's face told Briar that the Pokemon hadn't been the one who had wandered off. Briar gave a little wave when the Pokemon noticed her. She returned the gesture before looking back up at her trainer. "Now why such a serious loo-...Oh dear. Did I manage to get lost again?" The old woman chuckled before turning to Briar. "Briar, dearie, would you mind helping an old woman find her way back to the entrance? My wife should be waiting there for me." Briar couldn't help but wonder how many times Natalie had gotten lost before to sound so casual about it. This had to be a regular thing for her. "Of course." She agreed without any hesitation. Getting lost might have been a common thing for her but leaving her to figure it out by herself didn't sit well with Briar. "Excellent! Thank you so much!" Briar stumbled a bit when she suddenly found herself being pulled along by Natalie. She was supposed to be helping her find the way out! If she let her take the lead she was afraid they would end up more lost! Briar quickly adjusted her pace so she was the one leading instead. Natalie didn't appear to notice the change. She seemed happy just having someone else to walk with.Out of their Pokeballs: Slate, Bidi, Rosalyn Partners: Wearing: Black sweatpants, baggy grey long sleeved shirt, black canvas sneakers Trainer Encounter: 27/25 Wild Encounter: 15/? Getting through the ruins with Natalie was turning into an adventure in itself. How was leading one old woman to the ruin entrance so difficult?! Briar would be completely convinced she was leading her in a straight line then somehow she would find herself going in a circle. Natalie didn't seem to mind. If anything the elder found it to be amusing. Occasionally she would stop Briar to discuss something interesting she had spotted. This surprised Briar as Natalie hadn't come off as the type who would know anything ancient ruins. While her knowledge of the ruins was impressive, it was Natalie's knowledge of Pokemon that truly fascinated Briar. In her short time with her, Briar had learned that she used to be a trainer and she specialized in Ice Types. The fact that Natalie was a trainer hadn't surprised her nearly as much as her preferred Type had. Trainer was the perfect occupation for someone so willing to give into wanderlust. Ice Types felt like a strange choice for someone as sweet as Natalie.
When Briar found herself turned around again she gave the Sobble in her arms a defeated look. Rosalyn was trying to find the correct direction too but they no longer recognized anything around them. "Why the long faces?" Natalie asked. Her long smile hadn't faded in the slightest. "I think I've managed to get us even more lost." Briar's reply was sheepish. She hugged Rosalyn close to her chest and focused her attention on the ground. She couldn't even get helping someone right. "Nonsense, dearie! The entrance is right over this way!" Natalie hooked her arm around Briar's and began leading the now very confused girl along. This didn't look anything like the area she had come in at! Sure enough, Briar found herself looking at another entrance to the ruins. She had all of ten seconds to process what she was looking before a stern looking older woman stormed up to them and began lecturing Natalie- who appeared to be struggling to contain her laughter. "Every time we go somewhere, this happens! I told you this vacation was a terr-" Natalie cut her wife off by stealing her purse from her and beginning to search through it. "You're unbelievable." The other woman sighed. As exhausted as she looked, she still seemed relieved to have her wife back. "I'm sorry if she's given you any trouble." Briar squeaked when she turned her attention to her. "N-no trouble! None at all! H-having someone to walk with was fun!" She babbled out as she held her hands up in front of herself. She really didn't want Natalie's wife's wrath to be turned on her. "Uh-huh." The woman clearly wasn't convinced. She eyed Briar's Sobble for a moment before beginning to search through her coat pockets.
Briar stared in confusion as a Pokeball was suddenly pressed into her hand. "Take this. You deserve something for putting up with my old ice witch." The woman held up a finger to silence Briar before she could try to argue. "Before you start- I was searching for a proper home for it anyway. I'm much too old to be chasing after young Pokemon." Briar still felt she should protest. She started to do just that when Natalie turned her attention back to her. "Here you are, dearie~!" A second Pokeball was given to her. This one was accompanied by a piece of paper with two different phone numbers scribbled on to it. "Thank you so much for keeping me company! Be sure to call us if you need anything! Or if you just want to talk. We'll be traveling around Johto so maybe we can meet up somewhere~!" Briar really needed to try to protest. "W-wait! I can't accept thi-" Aaaaand Natalie was gone. She was heading straight for the exit. "You get used to it." Her wife sighed. "Thank you." She gave a little wave before hurrying after her partner.
Briar remained where she was, trying to process exactly what had just happened. "I guess I made a friend?" Two friends? She didn't know. She added both of the numbers to her phone before climbing on to her equally confused Arcanine's back. They should probably head back to Goldenrod. She still needed to meet back up with Thomas. Briar started to direct Slate back in the direction she thought Goldenrod was then she stopped. The Ruins were close to the city she needed to visit to get her first badge. After some debate, she urged Slate forward. She was going to try to get through the Violet City Gym by herself.Out of their Pokeballs: Slate, Bidi, Rosalyn Partners: Wearing: Black sweatpants, baggy grey long sleeved shirt, black canvas sneakersTrainer Encounter: 28/25Wild Encounter: 16/?Item Posting: Specific Lure 8/20Labor Day Item: Big Mushroom 9/15OOC: {Inventory}Pokeballs: x Pokeballs x2 Heal Ball x2 Ultra Ball x1 Friend Ball x1 Moon Ball

"Did...did the ruins always look like this?" They just been through the Ruins of Alph not too long ago! In the brief time it had taken them to reach Violet City and take on the gym, the ruins had undergone a massive change. They were completely infested by Bug Types! Briar could only stare in awe as her Arcanine slowly made his way through the ruins, trying to avoid disturbing any nests. "What happened here?" She whispered, more to herself than any of her Pokemon. They looked every bit as lost as she did. The Bug Types appeared harmless enough. They didn't appear particularly interested in them at any rate. The majority of them were simply enjoying their new homes. Briar knew that the ruins being invaded was probably a bad thing but watching the different Bugs relaxing in their webs was sort of fun. That was until Slate reared back suddenly, throwing both Briar and Rosalyn on to the ground. Briar yelped as she attempted to untangle herself from the nest she had collided with. Slate had his jaws clamped around a Spinarak and was attempting to pry the pesky Bug off of him. As soon as he tossed her away, he attempted to burn the Bug Type before Briar could order him to stop. To both their surprise, the Fire attack appeared to do nothing to the Spinarak. She went right after Slate again. She was determined to defeat the giant fire puppy! Slate swatted her away from him, earning himself a bite to the paw. The Spinarak was way faster than he had been prepared for. Unfortunately for her, there was no escaping when Slate got his teeth on her a second time. He resisted the urge to crunch the Bug while she pouted after having lost her fight against the giant. A few second later the Spinarak vanished into a Pokeball. Briar had managed to dig one out of her things and throw it before Slate could get rid of the obnoxious buggy. She grinned when the Pokeball pinged that the Bug had been caught. "She seems like she'll get along well with Rosalyn." Slate wanted to argue but...he really couldn't. "The last thing she needed was a partner." He groaned and shook his head before moving to help Bidi pull Briar free of the webbing.

Briar didn't get far before she encountered yet another Bug. She had only just been freed from the nest when a Yanma took offense to the damage they had done to the webbing. As frustrating as fighting the Bugs she wanted to admire was, the battle provided her with the perfect opportunity to see exactly what Rhiis could do. Unfortunately it...wasn't much. The Yanma was a lot faster than the Kadabra and only seemed to get faster as the fight went on. Rhiis held his own though. Before he fainted he had managed to wear the Yanma down quite a bit. "Bidi, you're up!" She called to the Absol. Bidi wasted little time in distracting the Yanma while Briar went to retrieve her Kadabra. She wanted to check his injuries before returning him to make sure he was okay. Aside from some bruising he appeared to be mostly fine. She returned him right as Bidi managed to knock the little Bug out of the sky. Briar didn't hesitate to throw a Pokeball at it. When it pinged that the Bug had been caught, she smiled a tiny bit. "I'm becoming a Bug catcher." Definitely not the worst thing she could be. Bugs were pretty cute.

After two rough encounters with different Bugs, Briar was doing her best to find her way to an exit. Any would do. She needed to get her team healed up and let them rest a bit before they came back to explore some more. Maybe if they brought some treats they might be able to befriend some of the Bugs instead of just battling them! The idea made her smile a bit as she slowly navigated the different webs and nests. She felt that they had made decent progress by the time they ran into another Bug that wanted to battle them. They had strayed a bit too close to his space for his liking. Briar decided to test out one of her new Pokemon again, this time sending out her Alolan Sandshrew to battle. This should have been a huge mistake on her part. She began to panic the moment Coco was hit by a fiery tackle. Only...it didn't seem to do anything to her. Coco appeared every bit as confused as her trainer was. That didn't stop her from unleashing a wave of ice upon the poor Bug. Briar expected the Ice Type attack to do about as much to the apparent Fire Bug as the Fire attack had done to Coco. Instead the Bug seemed to be struggling after. He tried lashing out at Coco one more time before the Sandshrew took him down. Briar was on autopilot when she tossed a Pokeball his way. Why had his attacks done so little against Coco? Wasn't Ice weak to Fire? She stared at the Pokeball for several long seconds before retrieving it. The ruins might have been even stranger than she had initially thought.

Briar knew she should have been concerned when she spotted her next Bug but she just couldn't bring herself to be. Scyther were dangerous and she knew that but she was having too much fun collecting Bugs to be worried! Fortunately for her, Slate was perfectly capable of being worried for her. The poor Scyther only just realized they were there when she was knocked flat by a charging Arcanine. Briar immediately went to go check on the Bug. She appeared to be okay but was clearly shaken. In a panic the startled Bug chose to cling to Briar, making sure her scythes didn't accidentally damage what she had decided was her protector. Slate let out a warning growl before Briar gestured for him to settle down. The Scyther was nervous but she was harmless. Briar remained with her new buggy friend for several minutes before she finally settled down. She tried to say goodbye and continue on her way from there but the Scyther ended up following her as best she could without getting near Slate. Briar turned to face her after a few seconds. "Would you...like to come with us?" The Scyther looked Briar over thoughtfully before slowly nodding. She offered the Bug a Pokeball. The ball only shook once before signaling the Scyther had been caught. She hugged the Pokeball and smiled. This one was definitely her favorite to catch so far.
