 In the very northern most part of Violet City stands a landmark that it's citizens are very proud of and still look to to this day, the Sprout Tower. Standing over one-hundred feet tall, the pagoda built entirely out of wood is held together by a single, giant flexible pillar in the center of the structure that shakes and sways from side to side. This unique structure prevents the building's collapse from any such disasters like an earthquake, symbolizes the fragile balance between integrity and flexibility when it comes to battling, and as legend states was inspired by the peaceful and gentle nature of a one-hundred foot Bellsprout. With it's three stories, the main floor dedicated to those tourists who come to visit, the second floor is dedicated to those trainers who chose to come here and challenge the monks who have been learning the lesson of coexistence and balance with Pokemon for centuries. On the final floor is the Elder Monk who only accepts challenges from those trainers who truly understand the importance of coexistence with their world.
{Tower Sages (Click)}The sages are available for challenge among the different floors of the tower. They will accept a challenge from anyone whom would like to learn the ways of balance and ease. Up until you are challenging the elder, you may leave the challenge. If you are defeated or leave the tower before defeating the elder, you will be challenged by the sages again before coming to the elder. If you battle a mage more than once, you will not receive exp for any more than the first time you defeat them. The sages and elder's Pokemon reward exp upon defeat equal to wild Pokemon levels. It didn’t take long for Lirio and Kanan to get to Sprout Tower as it was only early afternoon by the time they got there. When the two of them entered the Tower, the main floor had a decent number of tourists looking around. That being said, it was still relatively quiet save the sound of footsteps all around. Lirio assumed the quietness of the guests was for the monks on the upper floors and followed suit. There were a couple of greeters near the front that bowed when Lirio and Kanan passed by. He turned to one of the greeters and explained why he was there, “Good afternoon. My name is Lirio and I am from Azalea Town. I want to study the practices of apothecaries across the world while on my journey. I was wondering if perhaps I could speak with one of the monks familiar with the practice.” “Ah, we don’t often get guests that wish to speak with and learn from the monks. They typically are here to visit the main floor or battle them. I would be happy to fetch one of the monks for you. Please, wait here for a moment.” The young female greeter said, a bit surprised by Lirio’s request. Lirio patted Kanan’s head for a bit while waiting for the woman to return. She had gone up the stairs to what Lirio assumed was the second floor. She came back shortly after with one of the monks following her. The monk was dressed in a dark green robe and had the typical shaved head. It wasn’t until the two got closer that Lirio realized the monk appeared to be a middle-aged woman with soft facial features. “I apologize for the wait, Mr. Lirio. This is one of the tower’s apothecary’s, Monk Konoha.” “It is a pleasure to meet you, Monk Konoha. I would be greatly honored if you would teach me some of your practices.” Lirio greeted the monk and bowed. Monk Konoha bowed back and responded in a soft voice, “The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Lirio. Your family’s reputation precedes you. We here know the fame of your mother, Ms. Mushikaze, and are honored to have her son visit us. I don’t know if she has told you this, but she used to visit this place occasionally and help us with especially difficult ailments.” “Ah, yes, I do remember her mentioning a couple of times of having visited Sprout Tower years ago on a few occasions. She never went into too much detail as to her reason why though, so I assumed it was something related to her apothecary work.” “Yes, she is indeed one of the best apothecaries in the world, certainly the best here in the Johto region. We were always quite appreciative of her visits when the work was out of our realm of knowledge. But, I don’t believe you came here to speak about your mother. Come with me. We can discuss more on the second floor.” Lirio nodded and followed the monk up to the second floor.

On the second floor, Lirio and Monk Konoha passed by many of the other monks and sages of the tower, some of which were engaged in battles. Upon passing by the first battling monk, he remembered how they were often challenged by trainers on their way to getting the Violet City gym badge. He remembered how a certain amount of sages had to be defeated before they could challenge the elder of the tower for a small reward. He decided he may come back once his Pokemon were a bit stronger to challenge the sages, perhaps after obtaining the first badge. Noticing how Kanan held close to Lirio, Monk Konoha began to speak, “Your shy Ledyba must trust you greatly to cling so closely to you. I often see trainers with timid Pokemon that are afraid of even their trainer. I feel sorry for the Pokemon when I see them and hope that perhaps things will get better for them, however, I am not sure if they ever do…” “Ah, yes, I’d like to hope they do, but I understand what you mean. Kanan may seem shy,” Lirio began, gesturing to the Pokemon on his shoulder, “But will fight for his friends if they need his help. He also recently helped me decorate a local bakery on a Pokejob, which I believe was done greatly.” “Really? A timid-brave Ledyba… I like that. As for the bakery, perhaps you should tell me which one so I may visit it to see both of your all’s work.” The monk replied with curiosity. “It is called Breakfast A-La-Mode. The food was quite delicious and the staff quite pleasant.” “What a nice name. I shall remember that for a future visit. Now, I believe we have arrived at our destination.” Upon saying this, the two arrived in front of room with a sliding door near the corner of the tower. Based on where the doors to other rooms were from this one, Lirio surmised that the room behind it must be rather large. Monk Konoha slid open the door, revealing a large, atrium-like room filled with many plants in pots of various sizes. It had two large windows on the walls facing the outside of the building along with a glass ceiling that let in sunlight from above. Lirio found it quite lovely and commented on the beauty of the room. “I am glad you like it! This is where we grow our medicinal herbs. Of course, there are other rooms in the building for growing plants too, but they are mostly for ornamental purposes. Would you perhaps like to look around the room first then we can discuss traditional medicine as you desired?” “Yes, I would love that!” Lirio replied and began to tour the room. He saw many different herbs, almost all of which he recognized save for a few he found to be quite obscure, noting in his head which ones he intended to ask questions about. He had an idea of the uses of a lot of the herbs, but suspected there may be other uses for some of them he didn’t know of and also made a mental note to ask about this.

Once Lirio had finished touring the room, he returned to where Monk Konoha was patiently waiting and began to ask her questions. “I noticed there were some plants I am not familiar with. Are they perhaps from a different region? Also, what are their uses?” Lirio began. “Ah, yes, we do grow a few plants from various regions. However, we make sure that they would not become invasive should they escape from the tower in an unprepared state. As such, we are limited in what we can grow from other regions here in the Tower. You may have noticed the dark-colored, branch-like plant over there,” Monk Konoha replied, pointing to one of the plants in the room several feet away, “They are called Gogoat’s Horns due to their resemblance of the Pokemon headwear. When crushed and drank in tea, they can be used to cure headaches along with muscle stiffness and aches. One of the other ones you may have noticed were the rather pretty Gossifleurias. Not only do they add some color to this room, but they also serve a couple of other uses. The flowers are sweet and fragrant and can relieve one of mild melancholy. The reason behind this is unknown, but some say it is because the sweetness reminds them of sweet treats from their childhood. The main use of the plant, however, is for the stem and leaves which dull pain when chewed. I suppose, to an extent, dulling pain can also cure mild melancholy, haha.” Lirio was astounded by the knowledge of the monk and paid close attention to every word she said. “I did have another question,” Lirio started, to which Monk Konoha nodded slightly, “I was wondering if there were any uses for the plants I am familiar with from the region I may not know of or are a bit more obscure.” “Well, unfortunately, much of the Tower’s knowledge on local floral medicinal uses are known by your mother, either because she studied it from us or was the one that discovered that use from her travels and shared it with us during a visit. As such, assuming I am correct in that she taught you much of what she knows, I doubt there is anything about those plants I could tell you that would not be a repeat of what you already know. My apologies,” Monk Konoha responded, bowing humbly. “Oh, no need to apologize! I am quite appreciative of the chance to see this room and learn from you. Although, I suppose you may be right about the uses of local flora. If you don’t mind, I was wondering if I may release some of my Pokemon from their Pokeballs to enjoy the sight of this room.” “Well, of course! We simply ask that they not be ones that may want to eat the plants in this room as some can have negative effects if not prepared the right way.” Lirio thanked the monk and released Amaryllis, Beryl, and Oakland from their Pokeballs. Although he wished to share this moment with his other two Pokemon, he knew the bug types Calla and Goji may be more likely to try to nibble on the plants and decided against it. Lirio briefly explained the significance of the room to his Pokemon before telling them to go ahead and explore it. Lirio’s Pokemon enjoyed the wonders of the room for a bit while he chatted with Monk Konoha about more frivolous things. Then, Lirio called back his Pokemon and returned them to their Pokeballs before turning to Monk Konoha and saying that it was time for him to head back to the Pokemon Center before it got too late. “Ah, yes, if you are planning to battle Falkner, it would be rise to make sure you get lots of rest before then. I can walk you back down to the entrance of the Tower.” The two then left out of the room, down the corridor of the second floor, and to the entrance of Sprout Tower. They said farewell, but Lirio mentioned before leaving that he intended to return to battle some of the Sages before her left Violet City, to which Monk Konoha had responded with wishes of luck in his battles at the gym and at the Tower. Lirio decided to return to the Pokemon Center to eat dinner and rest up for the night.

By the time Lirio and his Pokemon arrived, it was early in the afternoon. On their approach to Sprout Tower, they saw a sullen youth leaving the tower. Once they got closer to him, he seemed to perk up when he saw Lirio and his Pokemon and yelled out to him, “Hey, you look weak enough to beat! I challenge you to a battle!” Before the youth rushed over to meet Lirio. Oddly enough, the youth was a fair bit shorter and younger than Lirio and clearly overconfident in his abilities. Still, to Lirio, it seemed he had no choice but to battle the youngster. “That is a rather bold assumption of you to make, but I accept your challenge none-the-less,” Grae replied to the boy before turning to Amaryllis and Kanan, “I think perhaps you all should stay out of this for now in case he does have a stronger Pokemon than we might think.” Amaryllis and Kanan nodded in agreement and stepped back. Lirio sent out Oakland, telling him that he wanted him to battle the trainer. “Okay! You’ll regret that! Go, Machop! Use Knock Off!” “Brace yourself, Oakland, and prepare to counter with Razor Leaf!” Oakland takes the brunt of the attack then sends the Machop back with a powerful Razor Leaf attack. “Machop, use low sweep now!” The Machop brushes itself off from Oakland’s first attack then follows up with Low Kick. Oakland is nearly knocked out but manages to hang in there. “Oakland, are you alright?” Oakland nods to Lirio and stands back up to continue fighting. “If you can, use Razor Leaf one more time!” Oakland follows the order and lands a critical Razor Leaf attack that defeats the Machop. “What?! I thought you were weak and we could win easily…” Lirio walks up to Oakland and pats its head before giving it an oran berry and spraying it with a few potions. “You did a good job, Oakland! Let’s get you healed up now,” Lirio adminstered aid to Oakland before directing his speech to the young boy, “You know, it isn’t polite to assume others are weaker than you just because they don’t flaunt their prowess.” “Ugh, I just wanted to win! The sages beat me pretty easily halfway through with their flying types. Then they started talking about patience and other junk, so I left.” Lirio glared at the boy with unforgiving eyes. He was about to say that perhaps the sages were right considering their many years of experience before instead saying to the boy, “I would explain what the sages meant, but anything I say would simply be a waste of breath and go unheard by deaf ears.” Lirio picked up Oakland and called for Amaryllis and Kanan to follow him into Sprout Tower, leaving the boy behind to stew in his own frustration.

Lirio neared the entrance to Sprout Tower. However, when he was about to walk in, he felt a sudden chill down his back. His Pokemon must have felt it too as Oakland and Kanan huddled close to him while Amaryllis tensed up. Lirio looked around to see if there were any visible hints as to the cause of the chill. He heard an unintelligible whisper come from around the side of the building and followed it. Upon turning the corner, the whisper began to get louder and Lirio realized it was coming from the nearby woods. Oakland and Kanan were getting worried, but Lirio took a moment to reassure them. “It is okay. I am here with you. We’ll all be fine.” This seemed to calm them down a bit. Amaryllis and Lirio with Kanan and Oakland marched forward deeper into the woods until the whispers became rather loud speech that was still unintelligible and they stood in front of an old well. The voice seemed to be coming from inside the well. Lirio put Kanan and Oakland down on the ground and peered inside the well. “Is someone stuck down there?” He called into the well. Suddenly, the voice stopped and everything went silent around them. There was a sudden chill in the air before an amorphous cloud rushed out the well with a loud shriek, nearly moving through Lirio until he jumped back from the well. The blob stayed afloat above the opening of the well. “Are you, a sprit? Did we maybe do something wrong?” Lirio asked the blob. Lirio didn’t know much about the spiritual, as he was more in tune with earthly matters and states, but he could recognize this being was upset at them. Suddenly, it shot a beam of darkness at him and his Pokemon. They all jumped out of the way. It was because of this action that Lirio realized they may not have been dealing with a normal spirit as the beam seemed to have been a confuse ray attack. He decided to send out Beryl to deal with what he now believed to be a ghost type Pokemon. “Beryl, we need your help! Use Water Gun on the gaseous being!” Beryl was released from her Pokeball and followed the orders. The specter winced backward for a moment before countering with another beam of darkness that directly hit Beryl. In its confusion, Beryl ran into a nearby tree.”Beryl! Be careful!” Lirio called out to her. The spirit rushed towards Beryl and licked it with a giant tongue that formed from the blob, leaving Beryl stunned with paralysis. Kanan immediately and bravely flew in to protect its friend and created a protective field with Safeguard. The amorphous gas sent out another beam of darkness, but this time, it was stopped by the protective field. Lirio, Oakland, and Amaryllis all ran into the Safeguard field. Lirio called out to Kanan, “Use Supersonic on the ghost!” Kanan was quick to follow the order and the move seemed to daze the blob for a moment. However, this moment was short-lived as it floated towards Kanan swiftly and licked the Pokemon. Kanan attempted to use Drain Punch on the gas in retaliation, but it did not affect it. This simply helped confirm Lirio’s suspicions as to the true nature of the odd form. “Kanan, I want you to try using Supersonic one more time!” Kanan used the move as requested, but the specter was quick to react and dodged the attack before licking Kanan again. Lirio could tell that Kanan was getting weak and decided to send out Goji to help fight the seemingly powerful ghost, despite knowing that Goji wasn’t his strongest Pokemon. Immediately upon being sent out, the ghost attacked Goji with a lick attack, who seemed to become annoyed enough at the spirit to reactively use Ancient Power on it, knocking the amorphous blob to the ground. “Thank you for helping us, Goji,” Lirio thanked his Pokemon before moving forward to investigate the cloud of gas resting on the ground. When he got closer, he fanned away some of the gas from the center of the cloud with his hand to reveal the face of Gastly. His Pokemon moved close to the cloud to investigate as well. “Hmmm, we can’t just leave it here. It seems to have been angry at something. We should take it to the Pokemon Center in Violet City and get it and you all healed up before we continue our training at Sprout Tower... “ Lirio tapped a Pokeball to the Gastly’s face and it entered the Pokeball which shook for a moment. Lirio gathered his Pokemon, returning Kanan, Goji, and Beryl to their Pokeballs. He left Oakland and Amaryllis out of there Pokeballs as they were uninjured in the battle. When they were leaving the well, Lirio looked back at it and wondered if perhaps its disrepair was a possible reason for Gastly’s anger. Lirio, Oakland, and Amaryllis followed the path through the woods that they had taken to initially get to the well. However, when they neared the edge of the forest, a rustling noise came from a bush along the side of their path. Lirio and his Pokemon turned towards the noisy bush before a couple of Rattata jumped out from it, startling the party. They attempted to swipe at Amaryllis and Oakland who both dodged the attacks. “Amaryllis, use Headbutt on the Rattata!” Lirio called out in retaliation. Amaryllis used a strong Headbutt attack on one of the Rattata, knocking it out. However, the other Rattata used this opportunity to use Quick Attack on the preoccupied Chikorita. She endured the attack, before attacking back with another Headbutt, knocking the Pokemon out for a moment. The two regained consciousness moments later then ran off back into the bushes. “Amaryllis, are you okay?” Lirio said, kneeling down near the Pokemon. She smiled back up at him and let out a sound of reassuring health. Lirio smiled back and patted her on her head. “Let’s get out of here and to a Pokemon Center quickly before we are attacked again!” Lirio, Amaryllis, and Oakland continued on their path out of the woods and back to Violet City. Lirio and his Pokemon arrived back at Sprout Tower after a bit of walking. Upon arriving, Sadako moved to the front of the group and led the rest of them back to the well. As Lirio had hoped, it didn’t appear that the well had been disturbed. However, when he looked over to Sadako, she appeared to have a sad expression on her face. “What is wrong, Sadako? Was the well messed with while we were gone?” Sadako shook her head at Lirio. He wasn’t too sure what was wrong. He decided to have a closer look at the well. Naturally, the inside was rather dark and of decent depth. He could not see the bottom hidden in the shadows. He then decided to look around the stones of the well. He noticed how they were covered in moss and covered with vines. On one side, though, he noticed some lettering etched into one of the stones. He knelt down and moved the vines that were partially covering the words. The stone read, ‘For my dearest Sadako. May this well grant us all of our wishes. Yours truly, Ki-.’ The letters were too worn to finish reading the name. Lirio then turned to Sadako who was next to him and now appeared sadder than before. Lirio looked up mournfully at Sadako. “Was this, for you?” Sadako nodded slightly. Lirio was gripped with a sense of the sadness Sadako was feeling. She then floated through a nearby bush. Lirio was unsure why she did this but followed her along with Amaryllis, Oakland, and Kanan. They pushed past a bush and stepped into a small clearing. In the middle of it, were two small gravestones with a large patch of white flowers in front of them, which Lirio recognized as White Remembrances (Memoriae alba). He saw that Sadako had floated near the gravestones and was looking down at them for a moment before she turned to face Lirio. He and the others walked around and the flowers and up to the gravestones. On one of them, only a faded ‘K’ was visible. On the other, Lirio could make out ‘Sada-’ but that was all. Seeing this, he held a better grasp of what the place meant for Sadako. “This is where you and your love were buried many years ago, isn’t it, Sadako?” She did not respond but simply turned back towards the gravestones. “Did he dedicate this well to you? It must be sad seeing it in such disrepair… Was that why you called out to me? You were trying to ask for help, weren’t you? I am sorry we fought instead…”

Sadako then moved near Lirio and gave a slight smile to him at hearing these words from him. “We can help you clean up the site, right everyone?” Amaryllis jumped back for a moment, seemingly unsure about helping. Kanan and Oakland happily volunteered to help. Lirio and his Pokemon began to clear the overgrowth on the tombstones and the well with Sadako. Despite the great amount of plants, together, they made quick work of cleaning up the place. Of course, they left the Memoriae alba as they looked quite lovely there and were, to Lirio, clearly there for a reason. After they were done Lirio looked at Sadako and could see that she seemed to be at peace, her gas trail even no longer lingering below her, but rather trailing behind her now. Lirio stepped beside her and smiled down at Sadako, “We can leave when you are ready.” Sadako looked up at Lirio, then down at the tombstones. She then looked forward for a moment and closed her eyes. Lirio and the other Pokemon waited patiently for Sadako in silence. After a couple of minutes of this, a gentle breeze passed by them despite the denseness of the trees around them, and the air around them suddenly felt lighter. Sadako opened her eyes and nodded to Lirio who understood this as her saying she was ready. They all then walked away from the site of the well and tombstones, heading back to Sprout Tower.

Bonus Sadako was once a person long ago from the village where Violet City now stands. she ended up falling in love with one of the monks of sprout tower and he loved her back. But, their love was forbidden as the monk was supposed to dedicate his entire life to his work as a monk, trying to obtain enlightenment and give up material wants. so, to show how much he loved her while doing his work for the tower, he built her a [wishing] well with a stone inscribed with the words "For my dearest Sadako. May this well grant us all of our wishes. Yours truly, Kigoran." The two often visited this well in secret, wishing they could leave together with nothing but their love for each other. However, their wishes were never granted. One day, Kigoran fell gravely ill. Sadako went to see him every day and prayed for him to be healed. before she left home for the night, she would stop by the well and wish with all her heart for him to be healed. However, her wishes never came true and Kigoran died after a few weeks with the illness with Sadako by his side. After he died, she did not cry, but rather, went straight to their well to make one last wish. A monk nearby when she did this described how she threw a White Remembrance (a type of white flower) into the well after speaking words too quiet for him to hear before she suddenly fell to the ground On that day, both Sadako and Kigoran passed on. Rumors at the time say that she died of heartbreak. others say that she wished to be with her loved one and the well finally granted her a wish. whatever one believes, the two were buried near the well by monks of the tower. years after their burial, it was observed that White Remembrance flowers grew from the spots from where they were buried. Although the story was passed on, like the words on their tombstones and the well, the story faded and was lost to time.

Lirio, Sadako and his other Pokemon made it back to Sprout Tower. Before entering, Lirio explained to his Pokemon how he intended for them to train against the Tower’s sages before they return to Violet City to battle Falkner and, hopefully, obtain their first gym badge. When they entered, they were once again greeted by the two greeters at the entrance. Lirio explained to one of them that he would like to take on the Tower’s sage challenge. Upon hearing this, she led Lirio up to the second floor and introduced him to the first sage, telling him that he would explain how to proceed through the tower. “Welcome, young trainer. I am Sage Chow. I don’t believe we have met, but I have heard from Monk Konoha of your skill with plants. She had a suspicion you would return and challenge us. Right now, she is busy, but I am sure you will see her again before you leave this tower. I am your first challenge and shall explain how to proceed once and if you can defeat me.” The monk then sent out a Bellsprout which stood at standby. “Alright, Amaryllis, since we had to delay our training here with you, why don’t you be the one that takes on the challenge of Sprout Tower? You can take a break when you need to, though.” Upon hearing this, the previously uninterested Chikorita immediately perked up. Perhaps she had thought that Lirio had forgotten about their one-on-one training, but this certainly quashed any doubts she had in the trainer. She proudly stepped forward to battle. “Alright, Amaryllis, use Headbutt!” Amaryllis used the move whose power caught both the sage and Bellsprout off guard, knocking out the Pokemon in one blow. “Amazing job, Amaryllis!” “You have trained your Pokemon well! Congratulations, trainer. You shall find your next challenger in the next room. From here on, the sages’ Pokemon will get stronger with each room you complete. You must battle each one. You are free to leave when you want, but must battle the sages again in the order you originally fought them should you leave. Once you defeat all the sages, you shall be able to battle the great Elder Li of Sprout Tower. Should you defeat him, you will be rewarded with a technical machine and item. Now, please proceed to the next room.” The sage explained to Lirio. Lirio bowed and thanked the monk before he and his Pokemon entered the room with the next sage. Upon entering the next room, Lirio was greeted by a monk. “I am Sage Nico and welcome to the next step on your challenge through Sprout Tower. Shall we begin?” The monk said as he sent out his first Pokemon. Amaryllis knew what to do and stepped forward, ready to fight. “Start it off with headbutt, Amaryllis!” Amaryllis used the attack and once again knocked out the Bellsprout in one hit. Lirio knew that this would not be as easy as these first two Pokemon were. As suspected, Sage Nico sent out a noticeably stronger Bellsprout without hesitation. “Let’s keep using our strong attack, Amaryllis. Use Headbutt again!” Amaryllis once again followed orders and the move left the Bellsprout momentarily stunned. “Let’s use this chance to follow-up with Razor Leaf!” This attack knocked out the opposing Bellsprout. Sage Nico congratulated Lirio and showed him to the next room. The rest of the sages will be much stronger than the last, so let’s just keep trying our best!” Amaryllis nodded to reaffirm what Lirio said. He also took a moment to return the rest of his Pokemon besides Amaryllis. The next sage walked up to Lirio with someone by his side, who Lirio recognized as Monk Konoha. “Ah, it is good to see you again, Lirio. I had hoped to see you again before you left Violet City for Azalea Town.” “It is indeed nice to see you again. I wouldn’t have left without first coming to see you and say goodbye. I did have a question to ask you though regarding a Pokemon that I recently added to my team.” “Ah, yes, do go ahead and ask your question.” “Well, were you aware of an abandoned well and a couple of gravestones not far from the tower in the nearby woods, hidden in the tower’s shadow?” “I had heard stories of people passing by a well but being promptly scared away by mysterious noises or even a ghost that came out of it. I have been meaning to perform a cleansing ceremony of the site, but every time I think I get near it, a dense fog appears and I end up back where I started…” “There is no need to perform that ceremony anymore. I have found and appeased the ghost of the well. In fact, you can meet her now. Her name is Sadako.” Lirio replied before sending out Sadako from her Pokeball. The Pokemon appeared with a smile next to Lirio. Lirio explained to Monk Konoha and the other sage, “Sadako was simply protecting the well from people, unable to find peace, but, I have since helped her by cleaning up the area of the well and the gravestones of her and her beloved from when they were humans. I believe she now wishes for people to visit that well and the graves so they may cast wishes of their own.” “I see… You said her name was Sadako, right? And that she was once a human? What was the name of her beloved again?” Monk Konoha responded. “I don’t know, but I believe it started with a ‘K.’ Either way, they were clearly deeply in love and I sense that losing him caused her great pain…” “I see. Perhaps she may one day tell you more about her past. For now, though, I shall visit the well and maintain its upkeep as well as have others visit it too. Sadako, I am glad your spirit has found peace after so long. I recall being warned of visiting the woods when I was younger because of the Spirit of the Well that dwelled within it.”

However, I was informed I would be allowed to help you in healing your Pokemon that have not fainted, not that I think you’d need much of my help. It seems that Elder Li wishes to see you, but not without you passing through the trials. That doesn’t mean he may not have tipped the scales a bit by sending me, though,” Monk Konoha replied to Lirio with a slight smile.” “I see, well, we do not plan to disappoint you! Shall we begin the next battle then?” Lirio said, turning towards the sage next to Monk Konoha. “Yes, I am ready! I am Sage Edmond and I intend to test your mettle! Aid me in my task, Bellsprout!” The man sent out a Bellsprout and Amaryllis stepped forward. Monk Konoha stepped to the side of the room so as to not be in the way of the battle. “Begin the battle with Wrap, Bellsprout!” Amaryllis entangled in the Bellsprouts’s tendrils, taking damage. “Amaryllis, try to free yourself and use Headbutt!” Amaryllis managed to shake herself away for just a moment, long enough to land a headbutt attack on the enemy Bellsprout which stunned it. “Now’s our chance to follow-up with another headbutt attack!” Amaryllis did as commanded and knocked out the Bellsprout. “You are quite skilled at using your hands for healing, as expected,” Monk Konoha commented as Lirio tended to Amaryllis. “Thank you! As you know, I have learned much from my mother, but I still have much to learn.” “Monk Konoha, would you mind leading the young man to the next room when he is ready? I must go meditate and think about my loss.” The monk left the room with a surprisingly morose look on his face which Lirio tried to not pay much attention to as he worked. When Lirio was finished with his work, he turned to Monk Konoha and told him he was ready. He, Amaryllis, Sadako, and her all left to the next room where they were greeted by another sage. “Welcome! I am Sage Jin! Do not mind Sage Edmond. He is a bit tough on himself. Whenever you are ready, I shall be your next challenger.” Lirio glanced at Amaryllis and could tell she wanted to battle, but knew it would not be for the best. Instead, he turned to Sadako and said, “I would like you to battle with me! I know the Pokemon you will face are strong, but I have another one of those items I gave to Amaryllis that will help you battle and win!” Lirio pulled out a scope lens and put it on Sadako who graciously accepted the gift. “Now, we are ready to fight!” “Very well! Go, Bellsprout! Lash out with Vine Whip!” The Pokemon attacked Sadako who brushed off the attack. “Let’s put them to sleep with Hypnosis, Sadako!” The Bellsprout is successfully put to sleep due to Sadako’s attack. “Let’s try to defeat it with Lick before it wakes up!” Sadako manages to land three successful lick attacks before the Bellsprout wakes up and counters with a Vine Whip attack. However, it is too late and when she landed one more Lick attack, Sadako defeated the Bellsprout. “That was a successful strategy you used to defeat my stronger Pokemon. However, you have sustained damage and I don’t think your Gastly can beat my next Pokemon without healing up. Go, Weepinbell!” Lirio considered what Sage Jin said. He was right, so Lirio decided to send out Kanan to battle. “Alright, Sadako! You did well, but take a break for now. I’ll have Kanan finish up the battle.” He then turned to Kanan and said, “It is your turn now, let’s see what you can do with your evolved form!” Sadako understood and floated to the side of the room. Kanan was a bit shy about battling at first until Lirio spoke, after which, he was a bit less doubtful. “I’ll use a status move of my own. Weepinbell, use Poison Powder!” The Weepinbell was fast and managed to use and land the attack on Kanan before either he or Lirio could react. Coughing a bit from the powder, Lirio called to Kanan, “Are you okay, Kanan?” The five-star Pokemon nodded before bracing itself to attack. “Alright, let’s see how they can handle your punches. Send out a flurry of Drain Punches!” “Counter every punch with a Vine Whip attack!” Sage Jin called out to his Weepinbell. The two Pokemon exchanged blows until only one stayed standing. It was clear once the exchange began that the Weepinbell was taking more damage than Kanan and would not last long even with Kanan poisoned from the previous attack. After four strong Drain Punch attacks, Kanan knocked out the Weepinbell. “Well don, young trainer. When you are ready, you may proceed to the next room…” Sage Jin congratulated Lirio before stepping aside from the path leading to the next room. It took Lirio a little bit longer to heal Kanan who was hurt more, but it wasn’t a difficult task once he gave Kanan the Pecha Berry. “Alright, Amaryllis, Sadako, and Kanan, it is on to the next battle!” Lirio’s Pokemon cheered and followed him to the next room. There, they were greeted by another Sage who introduced himself as Sage Neal. Unlike the other sages, Neal seemed to want to chat with Lirio about random things. Lirio thought it may be related to the lack of trainers that make it this far up the tower. Lirio obliged at first but was becoming increasingly antsier as the conversation drolled on about monotonous and superficial topics. Monk Konoha seemed to notice this and interrupted the conversation. “I do believe Lirio wanted to battle you, Sage Neal, at least, before the next decade.”

Lirio braced himself for battle and sent out Sadako first. Sage Neal sent out a Bellsprout that came out with a lashing Vine Whip Attack. “Sadako, use Confuse Ray to get it to stop attacking!” Sadako did as commanded, but unfortunately, the Bellsprout managed to land another Vine Whip attack, nearly knocking out Sadako. Lirio was hoping to have Sadko handle the first Bellsprout but saw that was not going to be able to be the case. “Come back, Sadako! Amaryllis, can you finish the job for us?” Sadako returned back to Lirio and Amaryllis rushed into battle. Sage Neal’s Bellsprout attempted to attack Amaryllis, but it failed to do so and accidentally hurt itself. Lirio had Amaryllis take advantage of this opportunity to land a devastating critical Headbutt attack, knocking out the Bellsprout. “Wow! Your Chikorita is rather strong! Reminds me of another trainer’s Chikorita that came through here a long time ago. Really strong, that trainer was. I wonder how she is doing now? You wouldn’t happen to know, Monk Konoha?” Sage Neal said as he drifted on a tangent. “No, I do not, but I do believe you should pay attention to the battle…” Monk Konoha replied trying her best not to lose her patience. “Ah, right! Go, Bellsprout! Unleash a flurry of Vine Whips!” “Use Headbutt when an opening shows itself, Amaryllis!” Amaryllis nodded back to Lirio and dodged a couple of lashes. She was hit by the third, but then countered with Headbutt. Being so close to the Bellsprout, it was able to attack her again, but she once again used Headbutt, landing a critical hit and defeating the Bellsprout. “This time, you should have more difficulty defeating my next Pokemon, Bellsprout’s evolved form, Weepinbell! You know, I do rather find the Bellsprout line alluring. They have their own sort of appeal. And-” “Ahem, Sage Neal…” Monk Konoha interrupted. “Right, let’s just battle. If you defeat this Pokemon, you will be on your way to the next room!” “Brace yourself, Amaryllis!” Lirio called out to her. From Sage Neal’s Pokeball, he released a Weepinbell. As with the other Pokemon, this one used an onslaught of Vine Whip attacks. Lirio suspected this was because the Pokemon had no stronger moves to use against the Pokemon Lirio had used thus far. ”Amaryllis, get away from the Weepinbell and use Synthesis to heal up a bit first before we attack!” Amaryllis dodged one more Vine Whip attack before she dashed towards a far corner of the room near a window and proceeded to use Synthesis, healing herslef up. She managed to heal most of her health when the Weepinbell lunged itself at her with its vine before using another Vine Whip. “Break your way through and away from the corner!” Amaryllis knew what this meant and used a powerful Headbutt attack to push the enemy Weepinbell away. It was dazed for a moment before swinging its vine widely to attack Amaryllis once more. Lirio analyzed the situation for a moment and knew it may be hard to attack the Weepinbell again with its wide reach and came up with an idea. “Amaryllis, catch its vines and pull it towards you to headbutt it!” Hearing this, both the Weepinbell and Sage Neal were shocked. The Weepinbell tried to stop its vine from getting too close to Amaryllis, but the attack was already in progress and hard to stop at this point. Amaryllis twisted the Weepinbell’s vines around the leaf on its head and pulled strongly toward itself, forcing the Weepinbell off the ground and right toward it. Amaryllis met the aerial Weepinbell with a Headbutt attack and knocked it out. For the first time since meeting him, Sage Neal was at a loss for words, which came as a surprise to Lirio. Lirio was about to go up to Amaryllis and congratulate her when she began to glow strongly. Lirio, Monk Konoha, and Sage Neal all shielded their eyes. Lirio’s sports glasses helped him see despite the light a bit, although it still strained his vision, but he could see an outline of Amaryllis’ form change and grow larger. A moment later, the light started to fade, and everyone unshielded their eyes. Where Amaryllis stood as a Chikorita moments ago was now her as a Bayleef. “Amaryllis! You did amazing and I see you evolved too! Congratulations!” Lirio said as he ran up to hug his Pokemon. Amaryllis ran towards Lirio too and nearly knocked him over when the two met. She was clearly filled with joy and it showed by her noises of happiness. “This is a great event! I am sure your Chikorita’s new form will help you on your journey and you battle with Falkner!” Monk Konoha said as she stepped near the two after allowing them to hug for a moment. “I can heal Sadako again before your next battle. The next sage will be the last one before you battle Elder Li.” “That would be greatly appreciated! Amaryllis, you should use Synthesis over there by the window to heal up again.” Amaryllis strolled to the window and healed herself up. Kanan took this moment to fly over to her and appeared to say some sort of congratulations to her. Lirio, of course, could not understand the sounds made during the exchange but had a suspicion as to what the gist of what was said. Lirio waited a bit for Amaryllis to fully heal as well as give Monk Konoha time to do her work before he called for Amaryllis and Kanan to come back to where he was and for them to all move to the next room. However, before they could move for the next room, Oakland popped out of his Pokeball and began to run towards Amaryllis. As he ran, though, he too became engulfed in light and changed forms. By the time he reached Amaryllis and Kanan, Oakland was now a Grotle. He gave a happy smile to Amaryllis, seemingly trying to congratulate her too. Amaryllis and Kanan were both in shock, much like everyone else in the room. Oakland seemed a bit confused as this was apparently not the response he had expected. Kanan pointed at Oakland who then gazed at his legs and back before realizing he had evolved as well and was promptly as shocked as everyone else. Amaryllis got up and nuzzled her head against Oakland and the two enjoyed the companionship of the other for a moment. Lirio then went over to his three Pokemon and patted both Oakland and Amaryllis on their heads. Sadako then floated over, as Monk Konoha was done with her work, to join her Pokemon companions. “Alright, now we should definitely be able to defeat the last sage and the elder as well as Falkner! Let’s keep up the good work, everyone!”

Monk Konoha walked over to join the group and began to speak, “I am truly surprised to see that two of your Pokemon evolved so soon after the other. Truly a breathtaking sight! Whenever you are all ready, I will guide you to the last room before we are able to go up a floor and meet the elder.” “Are you all ready for more exciting battles?” Lirio asked his Pokemon who all responded with a resounding sound of approval. The group collectively moved to the next room. There, they were greeted by the harsh glare of the next Sage. Kanan jumped back when he noticed the Sage, whose gaze startled Kanan. “I am Sage Troy and I shall be your next opponent, the last sage before you meet and face the Elder. I intend to try my best to keep you from passing. Whenever you are ready, we can commence the battle.” Before Lirio stepped forward to face Sage Troy, he knelt down and whispered to Kanan, “Don’t worry, Kanan. We can defeat him just like we defeated the other Sages. He just has to act menacing to scare the weaker trainers.” This seemed to calm Kanan a little bit, but he still stayed behind Lirio’s leg. “Use Poison Powder, Bellsprout!” Considering how close the two Pokemon started out together, Kanan had no time to fly away. Instead, Lirio had him counter with Supersonic. Both Pokemon landed their attacks and were dazed by the effects. The Bellsprout tried to attack Kanan, but hurt itself instead. “Kanan, use this opportunity to use Drain Punch!” Lirio called out to the Pokemon. Kanan nodded before using the attack. Unfortunately, the Bellsprout did not seem to be dazed for very long from the confusion and it successfully landed an Acid attack when Sage Troy gave the command. “We shall not be so easily taken down!” “Kanan, Drain Punch is our best option as it’ll deal the most damage to the Bellsprout and keep you healthy. So, keep using the attack! We can do this!” Lirio called out to Kanan. The motivation from this last call seemed to invigorate Kanan, who landed a powerful critical strike against the Bellsprout, which nearly knocked it out. It sputtered out one last Acid attack as Kanan finished it off with one more Drain Punch. “Amazing job, Kanan! You should rest for a moment though, okay?” Kanan smiled and returned the item before being returned to his Pokeball. “Okay, Amaryllis. You are up next!” Lirio said as he turned to Amaryllis and patted her on the head. “This next battle shall not have the same result! Amaryllis stepped up and was ready for battle. To both Lirio’s and Amaryllis’ surprise, the Weepinbell let out a strong Acid attack which damaged Amaryllis greatly. “Amaryllis! Come back, we are clearly at a disadvantage here!” Lirio shouted to the Pokemon. However, she did not come back and instead shook her head, seemingly insisting she stay in the battle. “If you get hit again, you may be knocked out! I know you won’t turn back now, so, use a Headbutt attack for now!” Lirio responded, albeit hesitantly. Amaryllis was pleased with her trainer trusting that she could still fight and used the attack as commanded. The attack was a devastating blow to the Weepinbell but did not stun it. “You made a grave mistake! Weepinbell, finish this with another Acid attack!” Amaryllis was too close to dodge the attack and was directly hit as a result. She was knocked out. Lirio came over to where Amaryllis lay. “Don’t worry. You tried your best. Now rest,” Lirio said to her as he returned the Pokemon to her Pokeball. “Send out your next Pokemon to submit to its fate!” Monk Konoha came over to Lirio and whispered to him, “I never quite liked Sage Troy. He has quite the air of arrogance. I can tend to Amaryllis’ wounds for you so she may battle against the Elder when you beat this Sage.” “Thank you, Monk Konoha. Your help is truly appreciated.” Lirio handed over Amaryllis’ Pokeball to the monk before stepping back and taking out another Pokeball. He sent out Goji the Shuckle since he needed to train up a bit and the enemy Weepinbell was quite weakened already. “Ha! What do you expect to do with that rock worm? Weepinbell use Vine Whip to toss the Pokemon around!” Goji was oblivious to the insult thrown at it and the oncoming Vine Whip attack. However, once he was grabbed and lifted into the air, the Pokemon became visibly upset. It was, unfortunately, unable to get itself back onto the ground and was facing away from the Weepinbell towards Lirio. “Goji, grab onto the Weepinbell’s vines and use Ancient Power!” Goji then went into his shell to reorient himself. When he came out, he used his legs to grab onto the Weepinbell as Lirio commanded and pulled the enemy towards him. “What is this?!” Monk Troy said aloud. As the Weepinbell came towards Goji, he used Ancient Power and landed a direct hit, knocking out the Pokemon and causing both of them to fall to the ground. Goji was unphased by the fall but was noticeably less upset now. “Great job, Goji! That was excellent!” Lirio congratulated the Pokemon and gave him a berry which seemed to please Goji. “My final Pokemon will certainly be tougher for you! Go, Victreebell!” “Kanan, I need your help one more time this battle!” Lirio said as he released Kanan once again to fight. Kanan was ready to battle as he had rested a bit by now, but was still affected by the poison from the monk’s first Pokemon. Before Lirio could give him a Pecha berry for the poison, the Victreebell sent out a flurry of leaves to attack Kanan. “Guess that is how it is going to be… Sorry, Kanan, we will take care of that right after this battle. Breakthrough the Leaf Tornado and use Drain Punch!” Lirio, a bit disappointed at the conduct of the monk, commanded Kanan. “Don’t let them get to you! We shall daze them with the leaves and finish them off that way, Victreebell!” Kanan managed to cut through and landed a powerful Drain Punch attack. However, Victreebell countered with another Leaf Tornado. This dazed Kanan even more who now found it difficult to see the enemy. “Try to focus, Kanan, and attack again!” Kanan took a moment to search for the source of the leaves and attacked there, figuring that was where Victreebell had to be. Kanan once again landed a hit, nearly knocking out the Victreebell. “Keep up the attack, Victreebell!” At this point, Kanan could no longer see Lirio in the flurry of leaves. Realizing this, Lirio called out loudly to Kanan, “Just use Swift to finish off the battle! That way, they’d have no way to escape the attack!” Kanan listened and fired off a Swift attack towards where he suspected the Victreebell was. The hit must have landed as there was a brief break in the flurry of leaves. However, this was short-lived as more came. The noise from the leaves was too loud for Kanan to hear Lirio if he was calling out something, but he decided to use Swift again as Lirio said to do that to finish the battle. With one last Swift sent out, the leaves suddenly began to fall gently when the attack hit its mark. “How could this be? Gah! I suppose there was a reason the Elder wanted to see you…” Sage Troy said, only partially admitting defeat. Lirio went up to Kanan and handed him a Pecha berry to cure him of his poison before congratulating the exhausted Pokemon. Amaryllis and Monk Konoha came up to Lirio and Kanan. Amaryllis seemed to have healed up well but was moving noticeably slower than usual. This made sense considering the injuries she sustained and would probably need to rest off to finish healing. “This means the Elder is your next opponent, once you are ready to fight him, of course. He will be tough for your Pokemon, which is why I am allowed to heal your Pokemon to the best of my ability before you battle him. He is quite looking forward to meeting and battling you, Lirio. Your Bayleef just needs some rest now before she is ready to battle more. I suggest you all rest up for the night. I can help you tend to your Ledian and Shuckle too.” “That would be greatly appreciated, although I wouldn’t want to intrude more than I already have. I feel like me staying goes against the rules of the tower battles too, does it not?” “Of course not, Lirio. No intrusion has taken place nor will take place by your actions. Also, you haven’t technically left the tower nor returned to a lower floor, so the rules are still being followed.” Lirio wasn’t quite sure how he felt about bending the rules a bit, but he was glad to hear that his lengthy stay would not be a burden for them. “Thank you. The sun had set a while ago and Lirio was getting ready to rest. He and Monk Konoha had tended to the wounds of his Pokemon and they were all resting by now. Monk Konoha and Lirio were picking up the healing supplies when there was a knock at the door. “I wonder who that is this late?” Lirio said aloud to Monk Konoha. “I have a suspicion,” The monk replied with a slight grin before getting up to slide the screen door open. “Please, come in Elder Li,” Monk Konoha greeted the guest and stepped aside to let him in. Lirio was surprised to receive a visit from the elder. Although in retrospect, he thought to himself, it shouldn’t have been so surprising as Monk Konoha had mentioned more than once how the elder wished to see him. “Good evening, Elder,” Lirio said as he bowed down to the elder to show his respects. “You need not bow to me, young one. I am visiting in hopes to start a friendship between us. I am sorry if I am disturbing you all this late.” “Of course not, sir, we were simply putting away the supplies used to heal my Pokemon. Monk Konoha has been of great service to me. Her skills are quite extensive, but you already knew that. I wanted to thank you for allowing her to help me. Although, I am still unsure if the help and me staying here are putting me at an unfair advantage for the Sprout Tower battle challenge…” Elder Li chuckled for a moment, “I am well aware of the alleged “rule bending” taking place. In fact, your concern for breaking a custom of the Tower is one of the many signs that made me want to meet you. Of course, I wouldn’t allow the rules to be broken under my watch. Monk Konoha helping you is not against the rules, neither is you taking your time to rest and care for your Pokemon. So, do not worry about that any longer. Usually, Monk Konoha would have other duties to attend to, but she requested that she be allowed to follow along on your Tower challenge. I had nothing against her doing that. I was initially planning to wait to see you once you reached the top of Sprout Tower, but my curiosity got the better of me. Not only that, but I wished to have time to speak with you as a friend and not an opponent in battle.” “Wow, thank you, Elder Li. That makes me feel much better and calm my nerves about the battle. I really appreciate you taking the time to come speak with me. I did have a question though. If I haven’t broken any rules so far, why don’t other trainers take their time to battle the sages of the tower?” Lirio asked, becoming noticeably more at ease than he was before. “The answer to that question is simple. They are often young and impatient. They get frustrated if they lose even one battle. They either run out to try to get stronger quickly or give up entirely. Few end up coming back, most likely getting distracted along the way or not seeing the Tower as worth their time after all. The Sprout Tower battle challenge is more than one challenge in one. It is meant to test your battle strategy as well as your patience and kindness towards your Pokemon. Not many make it to the top, and even fewer are deemed worthy of the reward at the end. I don’t foresee you having to worry about being worthy, as I have already seen what lies in your heart. Did you have any more questions?” “No, sir. Everything you have said makes sense. I look forward to our battle tomorrow. I’d also like to thank you all for your hospitality.” Lirio replied humbly. “In that case, I will leave you two to rest for the night. It is getting late and I hope you will try your best tomorrow.” Elder Li replied before leaving from the door he entered through.

Lirio woke up just before sunrise the next day. He was unsurprised to see that Monk Konoha was already awake. She was already tidying up the room when Lirio awoke. “Good morning,” She said to him once she saw him get up. Lirio replied with a ‘good morning’ back before going to the nearby window. As dawn began to shine through the window, Amaryllis awoke from the light. She noticed Lirio by the window and went to his side, standing on her hind legs to see out the window and nuzzling his side. Lirio looked down at her for a moment and smiled as he patted her head. “Thank you, Amaryllis, for trusting in me. I am glad we can share this moment watching the sunrise together. I feel like this challenge has brought us closer together and I am thankful for that,” Lirio said aloud to her as he looked out at the rising sun. Amaryllis let out a sound of happiness before the two stood there at the window in silence for a bit. Monk Konoha watched the interaction between Lirio and his Pokemon and smiled. She did not disturb them and continued on with her morning tasks. Once the sun had risen enough, the light awoke most of Lirio’s other Pokemon except for Goji, who could have technically been awake but was still inside his shell. Lirio and Amaryllis moved away from the window once everyone else began to get up. “Okay, everyone, today is when we battle our final opponent here in the Tower. Elder Li will be tough to beat, but I am sure we can beat him together! It is time for us to face him,” Lirio said to his Pokemon to get them excited about the battle before turning to Monk Konoha, “Monk Konoha, would you mind leading us to the final floor to face Elder Li?” “Of course, I am done with my tasks in this room. Follow me. The Elder should be waiting for you already.” Monk Konoha and Lirio left the room and climbed some stairs before reaching a threshold into a large room taking up most of the top floor. Monk Konoha went up to large double-doors and gestured towards them. Lirio stepped in front of them with his Pokemon behind him and took a deep breath before pushing the doors open.

“Greetings, Lirio Mushikaze. I am pleased to see you did not hesitate to come here early in the morning. Did you have any more questions for me or need to prepare anymore before we begin?” Lirio had walked through the door and saw the Elder dressed in his usual traditional garb. He thought for a moment if there was anything else he had to say, but then responded, “No, sir, I have nothing more to ask you, and my Pokemon and I are ready to battle.” “In that case, let us begin. Go, Bellsprout!” Lirio turned to Sadako and said to her, “I’d like you to battle first, okay?” She nodded and floated forward to battle. “Very well, Bellsprout, use Vine Whip!” Elder Li shouted out. Sadako took the hit, but it didn’t do much damage. “Sadako, counter with Payback!” Sadako performed the move, landing a powerful attack on the enemy Bellsprout that shocked the Pokemon. Elder Li remained stoic. “Continue attacking, Bellsprout!” The Bellsprout attacked once more with Vine Whip. As the attack was oncoming, Lirio nodded to Sadako who knew what this sign meant. She braced herself for the attack before returning the hit with another strong Payback attack. This knocked out the Bellsprout. “You did great, Sadako! Now, rest for a bit.” Lirio said as he returned the Pokemon to her Pokeball. “Rather impressive, young Lirio. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this battle unfolds,” Said Elder Li with a slight smile on his face before sending out a Noctowl. Lirio grimaced for a moment at the sight of the Noctowl, knowing that most of his Pokemon had a type disadvantage against it or were a great deal weaker than it. He turned around went up to Kanan, “Would you mind battling this time? I know the enemy is a flying type, but I know you can beat it.” To Lirio’s surprise, Kanan did not hesitate and flew right up to battle the Noctowl. “We are ready for the second battle.” “Good. Now, Noctowl, unleash a barrage of Pecks!” “Kanan, it may know Hypnosis, so use Safeguard to protect you and the team!” Kanan used the move in between two of the oncoming peck attacks. “I see you are forcing us to go on the offensive. Wise move, Lirio,” Elder Li commented. “Use Drain Punch when the Noctowl tries to use Peck again, Kanan!” Lirio called out, trying to remain focused on the battle. Kanan used the move and regained some health doing so. This ruffled the feathers of the Noctowl a bit, but it prepared to attack again with another Peck, which would surely nearly knock out Kanan who was now quite weakened. “Kanan, meet its Peck with a Drain Punch of your own! Aim right for its head!” Lirio called out. Kanan immediately flew up and towards the Noctowl that was flying towards him, surprising both the Noctowl and Elder Li. “Try to dodge the attack, Noctowl!” Elder Li called out. However, it was too late for Noctowl to change its course and, despite landing its own attack, received a powerful Drain Punch right to its face. It was sent back to the other side of the room, knocked out on the floor. “That was something I truly did not expect. Good job, Lirio.” Elder Li said, showing his smile more clearly. “It was all thanks to Kanan being brave and trusting me. You did well, Kanan, now come back and rest with the others.” Lirio said, to which Kanan responded by flying back with his other Pokemon. “Now, for my final Pokemon. Go, Victreebell!” Elder Li said aloud with resolve. Lirio turned around towards his Pokemon, but before he could say who he chose to battle their last opponent, Amaryllis strutted forward and made the decision for him. “Alright, Amaryllis, it is your turn then.” Oakland made a cheering sound for Amaryllis who smiled back at him before she stepped onto the battlefield. “Victreebell, try to disorient them with Leaf Tornado!” Suddenly, a flurry of leaves surrounded Amaryllis, damaging her slightly but making it harder for her to land attacks. “Breakthrough the leaves and use Headbutt on the Victreebell!” Amaryllis charged forward and broke through the leaf flurry, landing a powerful Headbutt against the Victreebell. “Continue to disorient them, Victreebell!” Another stronger flurry of leaves surrounded Amaryllis who tried again to break through the leaves but missed her attack. The flurry continued to get stronger, nearly overwhelming Amaryllis. Lirio, realizing how difficult it would be for Amaryllis to land anymore hits, decided to return her to her Pokeball. “Okay, Sadako, it is up to you again!” He said as he sent out Sadako to battle once more. “Continue with our previous tactic and use Leaf Tornado once again!” “Use Payback, Sadako, for Amaryllis!” Lirio called out. Sadako managed to land her attack despite the leaf flurry, knocking out the Victreebell. “Ahaha! You won with great gumption! I was quite pleased with that battle full of surprises and tenacity! Thank you for showing me the inner strengths of you and your Pokemon, Lirio!” Elder chuckled aloud at first before calming himself and returning his Pokemon. The Elder was clearly happy with the outcome of the battle despite losing.
