Now things were really starting to pick up, and Falkner was energized for the battle as his Pidgeotto had struck and took the rest of the battle into the air. The bird lifted itself up from the attack and used the remainder of its momentum to soar into the air above the battle field, but as he could have imagined, the Latios wasn't going to be far behind. The dragon shook of his Pidgeotto's attack easily enough, and soon the dragon type was rushing through the air to keep up the pace. It was a battle of speed now, and Pidgeotto was doing the best that it could to keep up its evasion and speed, but the Latios was just as fast when it came down from above and struck with another aerial ace, dealing a heavy first hit to the flying type.
"Alright, if that's how its going to go, we can keep up the pace too," Falkner called out, not giving out on the battle yet. His Pidgeotto still had some fight in it yet, and the bird screeched as it followed closely after the Latios above the battlefield, using its size and maneuverability to get in close and strike with another Aerial Ace attack, and Falkner smiled up at his companion knowing that they were doing the best that they did for each and every gym challenge they faced together.

        It didn’t take long for Lirio to get to Violet City. The police officers had offered him a ride there, but he rejected their offer as he needed some time to ponder and process recent events. Once he got into the city, he found the nearest Pokemon Center and requested a room for the night. When he got to his room, he flopped onto the bed. Calla climbed into the bed and made himself comfortable. Amaryllis, though, could sense something was bothering Lirio and was concerned. She jumped into the bed and nuzzled herself close to Lirio. He found this comforting and ended up falling to sleep like this.

To his surprise, Lirio ended up waking up rather late for him, closer to 9 a.m. rather than right at sunrise as usual. Calla was still fast asleep, but it appeared to Lirio that Amaryllis had been awake for some time now and was watching him in his sleep. He didn’t know how long she was awake, but she made her concern visible. He reached out his arm from the bed and patted her on the head. “ Don’t worry, Amaryllis. I think I just needed some rest to clear my head a bit. I’m fine.”

She seemed a bit doubtful of his words but welcomed the head pats none-the-less. Lirio got ready for his day then gently woke up Calla. He then collected both Calla and Amaryllis and went to a PC send Papillio to his parents. “Oh, another cutie! This one will definitely fit in here! How much longer till you get back to Azalea Town?” Lirio’s mother Lily said after he sent over the caterpillar Pokemon.

“Don’t rush him, dear. He is on his own adventure. I am sure he will get here when he gets here.” Eden, Lirio’s father, chided his wife.

“It’s okay, dad, I know you all are at least mildly worried for me constantly. I should be back at Azalea Town within the week. I plan to go to Sprout Tower for a bit before I challenge the gym leader Falkner, as my Pokemon do need a bit of training. Plus, I’d like to learn from the monks of the tower in some traditional medicine. 

“Just know that we love you so much and you are always welcome here. We can’t wait to see you!” His mom replied while snuggling Papillio who seemed to be in distress.

“I’ll call you all again later. Bye!” Lirio said as he waved to his parents.

Lirio and his Pokemon left the Pokemon Center and stopped near the entrance. He decided to release the rest of his Pokemon from their Pokeballs as he hadn’t seen them much in the past day. To distract himself from recent events, he decided it would be a good idea to take them all out to eat a hearty breakfast somewhere in town. “We are going to go somewhere to eat breakfast! I am sure we will enjoy it even though I am not familiar with the area!”

Most of his Pokemon cheered, but Goji noticeably remained silent and essentially oblivious to what was going on. Lirio thought that this may not be his cup of tea, so he decided he would just feed him berries when they got to the restaurant.

All of them were at their table having fun and the food arrived shortly after Lirio made his announcement. It all looked quite delicious and they were all eager to dig in. Lirio made sure to give some berries to Goji when the food arrived. Goji seemed to not notice the berries at first, but when he finally looked down in front of him, he saw the berries and immediately changed from his reticent self to one full of joy. They all devoured the delicious food. When they were done, they thanked and paid the hostess, leaving a generous tip for her warm welcome. “So, where are you all from? Based on the fact that you have a Chikorita with you, I’d guess you are a new trainer ready to challenge the gym here, but you seem a bit old to be a new trainer.”

Lirio chuckled a bit at her last comment and replied, “Yes, I am a bit old for a new trainer, but that I am, a new trainer. I am from Azalea Town and only recently set out for my journey. I know I waited longer than most, but feel it will make me a better trainer in the long run.”

“I see, well, if it works for you, it must not be such a bad thing! I have never been to Azalea Town myself, with the mountain blocking it from the east and Ilex Forest from the west, but I would love to visit it one day. I here it is quite in tune with nature, more so than even Violet City.”

“It is quite lovely. I love all the natural aspects of the place. I plan to return their next after I am done seeing Violet City and challenging Falkner.”

“Say, if you aren’t too busy, would you mind helping the shop out with something? We need some help with decorations in the shop. We have a bunch, but not enough labor to put them all up as fast as we would like. We shouldn’t need too much help, just one of your Pokemon and yourself should be enough. What do you say?”

“I think we have some time for that. I don’t see why not.”

“Great! I’ll go let my manager know while you decide who you want to help you. Oh, and of course, we will reward you!”

“Alright, I say we should open up these boxes and get a look at what we have to work with first. Then, let’s look around the store to get a general idea as to where we might like to put things before we start decorating.” Lirio shared with Kanan who nodded in agreement.

They opened up the first box and saw that it was nearly filled with an assortment of cutesy items. There were lots of pinks, purples, and fluffy items in this box. It reminded Lirio of a dreamy cloud. The next box they opened up an air of mysticism to it, with things like glowing mushrooms and moss in it. Lirio especially liked this box as it reminded him a bit of a forest in a different region he had once visited. The third and final box seemed to be a jumble of the previous two, along with a few miscellaneous items that didn’t seem to fit either theme of the other boxes. One item in the box Lirio and Kanan both found especially alluring was a light blue glass orb. Lirio immediately thought this would be near a window where the sunlight would reflect and refract through it to add more flair to the place.

After they were done looking through the boxes, Lirio and Kanan looked throughout the restaurant. It seemed as if they were, for the most part, the only ones in the bakery besides the hostess and other workers. An occasional guest would come in, but they were quick to leave with a ready-made item. The bakery was modestly decorated which Lirio found to help accentuate the food items, however, he knew that the decorations would help elevate the restaurant. He was not one to shirk work and would definitely try his best.

Once Lirio had a good idea of the layout of the place, he gathered a few items from the back and began his work. He had Kanan help put things higher up where, even for as tall as he was, Lirio could not reach. Lirio had decided he wanted to go with a fairy-like theme for the restaurant, which seemed to be the intent of whoever ordered the decorations.

Kanan smiled and Lirio was about to tell the hostess they were done before he thought it might help to get feedback from some of the guests. The two waited for someone to walk in. An older lady dressed in a pink and light blue dress walked into the bakery. Her collar was rather large and fluffy, like a boa, and a deep purple color. Once she was seated, Lirio and Kanan came up to her to ask for her opinion of the layout. “Excuse me, ma’am, but I would like your feedback on the decorations of this establishment.” Lirio politely asked her.

“Well, I do believe it is quite pink enough to my liking even if you aren’t. I’d say whoever did this has an eye for decoration.” The lady replied.

“Why thank you! I will give my regards to the interior designer.”

Lirio was about to step away when the lady reached out and gently grabbed his wrist.

“You wouldn’t happen to have been the one that decorated this place, were you?”

“Actually, yes, along with my Ledyba Kanan. Your praise was much appreciated.”

“Perhaps you are suitably pink after all. I am sorry for my initial harshness.”

“None taken. I took the compliment for what it was meant and appreciated it.”

At that, Lirio bowed to the elderly lady and stepped away from the table to let her enjoy her time in peace. He felt the lady was familiar, but couldn’t quite tell from where he had seen her before. Perhaps it was the way she spoke or the gaudiness of her outfit that reminded him of someone. Either way, Lirio was now satisfied with his work and went back to the hostess to report his completion.

After finding his way back to Violet City, Skylar's stomach began to grumble a bit. "Oh?! Heh guess all this traveling is making me hungry." He said embarrassed. The Latios chuckles at this. "Why dont we all take a break and get some lunch?"  Skylar liked the sound of that and headed on over to the Pokemon Center. He got some Pokemon Food and started to fill up some bowls for his Pokemon and adding some cut up berries he had to give it some flavor. "Alright everyone time to eat!" He said holding all of his Pokeballs and tossed them all up. One by one his Pokemon appeared and seemed rather happy to eat and they began to eat. Skylar grabbed himself a tray and fixed himself some lunch. He watched his Pokemon eat as his thoughts began to wander. "You know some of us have been traveling for a while, so I think its time I start giving out names to call you all by." All of the 6 of them, excluding the Suicune who was laying down and eating turned their attention to Skylar. They then proceeded to go back to eating waiting to see what he would come up with.

Lirio arrived at the Pokemon Center around dusk, taking his time to return from Sprout Tower. He walked it, he noticed how oddly busy it seemed at the time, but he supposed it was probably due to being around dinner time and many trainers were eating with their Pokemon. A man greeted him with an oddly large smile on his face. “Hey, kid! We are doing a promotion right now where we give a transfer paper to random visitors of the Pokemon Center! If you use this at that counter over there, you can teach your Pokemon a move it is believed to have learned historically but no longer can.”

Lirio was caught off guard by the enthusiasm and replied with an awkward thanks. Lucky for him, the man became preoccupied by another guest shortly after speaking with Lirio, which Lirio used to make his escape. Around the Center were many trainers. Of particular note was a  trainer a bit away from the entrance with quite the remarkable-looking team. On this trainer’s team appeared to be a Suicune, Latios, and shiny Milotic. Lirio also saw that the nearby Bayleef, Trapinch, and shiny Ponyta were also probably his by their physical closeness to him. Lirio was curious about this trainer and his Pokemon, and thought it best to approach before he released his Pokemon from their Pokeballs to eat dinner.

Lirio walked up near the trainer and began to speak, “Good evening! I just returned to the Pokemon Center and noticed your impressive team of Pokemon and was curious to learn more about you all. My name is Lirio and I am from Azalea Town. Who might you be?”

        The young man stood up and introduced himself as Skylar. His Pokemon seemed rather curious of Lirio, especially the Latios who came close to him and spoke telepathically, asking why Lirio was there and where he was from. This did not surprise Lirio as he had heard of the psychic powers of Latios and Latias but the closeness of the Pokemon was a tad awkward. That being said, what did surprise him was when he could hear the Milotic speak too who chided the Latios for his intrusive behavior. “It’s okay. I don’t mind closeness to Pokemon. Although I will admit that hearing your Milotic speak telepathically was a bit surprising, Skylar. I did not know they had that ability. However, I must thank her for showing concern over your other Pokemon’s behavior. To answer Latios’ questions though, I am here in Violet City mainly to battle the gym leader Falkner. And yes, Milotic is correct, I am from Azalea Town here in Johto as I mentioned.” Lirio replied somewhat awkwardly, putting one hand behind his head and using the other to shake Skylar’s outstretched hand.

        Skylar explained how Latios’ psychic powers allowed other Pokemon to speak telepathically as well. After that, his Bayleef chimed in, mentioning how Skylar had just defeated Falkner, to which Skylar gave a short account and some advice on the battle. The telepathy explanation made sense to Lirio, as for the gym battle with Falkner, Lirio began to become unsure if his Pokemon would actually be able to defeat him, most of them were, after all, weak to flying type moves, which Falkner’s gym was in no short supply of. Lirio mentioned this to Skylar before saying, “Well, I suppose I should simply show you my team too then. I just recently started my journey, so my Pokemon aren’t the strongest, but I still love them none-the-less.”

After saying this, Lirio released all of his Pokemon from their Pokeballs, making sure that Kanan and Oakland were released slightly behind him knowing they may become startled and afraid in the presence of these new, strong-looking, and unknown Pokemon. As for the rest of his Pokemon, he knew they wouldn’t care much as long as they were friends, although Amaryllis’ personality might be abrasive to Skylar’s Pokemon. Lirio was also curious as to what his Pokemon might say to him with the ability to speak with him through words, although he typically had a fairly good understanding of what they wanted to say to him.

“These are our new friends, everyone. This is Skylar and his Pokemon. Also, Skylar and I should be able to understand you all thanks to his Latios’ strong psychic powers!” 

As suspected, Oakland and Kanan both yelled and hid behind Lirio’s legs as soon as they realized where they were. Amaryllis had initially turned away before noticing Skylar’s Bayleef and taking particular interest in her, “Wow, one day, I will look like you, right? I suppose I could make that look work.”

Beryl was quite excited at the prospect of new friends and bounced with joy. “Wow! I love new friends! You all look so awesome and cool! Oh, this is so exciting!”

Calla chimed in after Beryl, sharing her sentiments. “I agree! New friends are always great. The more the merrier, I say!”

Goji was the only one who didn’t seem too impressed by their new acquaintances. He looked around for a moment, possibly to make sure there was no food or immediate threat nearby, then hid in his shell. “Haha, sorry, Goji here is a bit shy and quiet,” Lirio said, trying to account for his Shuckle’s behavior.

            Skylar’s Milotic squealed at the sight of Lirio “smol and cute” Pokemon, as the Milotic had described them as. His Bayleef, shared some encouraging words with Amaryllis. Skylar suggested Lirio train some more before battling Falkner, to which he replied, “Yes, I did intend to do so. Perhaps I may head back to Sprout Tower to train or do a PokeJob or two before battling Falkner.” 

After saying this, he noticed how Skylar’s Trapinch seemed to ask for food, reminding Lirio that his main reason for returning to the Pokemon Center was to eat and rest up for tomorrow, which was going to be dedicated to training. “Perhaps I should get some food for my Pokemon too! I am sure they are hungry too.”

    “Food!” All of Lirio’s Pokemon replied, even Oakland and Kanan who seemed to be momentarily distracted from their timidity by the thought of food.
