 North of Rustboro City where the mountains still continue and forest is sparse, an enormous cave is the only link between Rustboro and Fallarbor town known as the Meteor Falls. Many years ago, before the cave had fully formed, it is said that a meteor shower struck north western Hoenn, which is now the site of the Meteor Falls. There are many craters, some even dozens or hundreds of yards in diameter, that cover the ground around Meteor Falls where the shower struck, and it was with one meteor that fell and broke through a cavern wall where a canal of water was trapped that the Meteor Falls began to flow and has been flowing ever since.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Katie did not even spot the first wild Pokemon to show it's face. It peeled itself from the cave wall and hovered up to her while her back was turned. She looked back, but it floated aside to keep out of her view. Still though, something was making the fine hairs on the back of her neck prickle. She sent out a Pokemon who was able to see the floating Lunatone. Spotted, the Pokemon quit playing games and attacked. Scout jumped past Katie and took the hit, but grabbed onto the floating crescent moon. He absorbed health, taking a couple hits and then healing himself from Lunatone's store of health. Lunatone could only take so much of that before falling from the air and landing with a loud 'THUNK'. TL;DR

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Eventually she found her way out of the cave. Katie had stopped and taken time to admire the scene of the naturally formed water flow down the sloping wall of rock. It was honestly a breathtaking picture. Even so, she knew she couldn't linger here for long. Time was absolutely precious here. She found the exit and pushed on. The bright sunlight made her blink rapidly and shield her eyes. All of her Pokemon were now secure in their homes. In time, she knew she would find the next town and figure out what to do with a little bit of time to breathe and think.

She had taken time to look at the falls, and be captivated by their beauty, but she had not climbed them and explored the cave thoroughly. The idea she may have to climb up beside one of these waterfalls was intimidating. She had never done anything like that before, despite her past adventures. "Zazzy?!" She called out, looking around. "Where are you?!"
She did not get a reply. No Pokemon called back, no Pokemon came running out to greet her. Not eve the wild Pokemon seemed to bother with her right now. Could they tell her sense of purpose? Or perhaps word had spread of what happened to the last Pokemon to mess with the blonde Trainer passing through here. She looked up at Rowlet and Swablu, knowing her time with the captured Pokemon was growing short. "Swablu, I'm going to have to let you go. Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ The Pokemon who she was preparing to release back into the wild made a series of small chirping sounds. Katie looked up from the device on her wrist in confusion. "What's wrong?" She asked, and the Pokemon flew around Rowlet and then landed on Katie's shoulder. "You don't want to leave?" She asked, and the bird nodded. She thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright." She pulled out a Pokeball from her bag and held it up to the bird. Swablu pecked the ball's center button and suddenly vanished inside of the device. It did not even shake in her hand before sealing the Pokemon inside. She had captured a Swablu. Yes that was an exciting thing, but it wasn't the most important thing right now. She had a job to do. "Come back out." She said, releasing the Swablu again. "Rowlet, Swablu, fly up the falls and search above for the Zigzagoon. I'm going to look around down here on the lower levels. If you find the Pokemon, you need to come find me right away." They both flew up the cavernous falls and soon vanished from sight. Katie turned away from her Pokemon and walked deeper into the massive cave. TL;DR

She had no idea how much better luck her Pokemon might be having, but she certainly hoped they were doing better than she was. "Zazzy!" She called, hoping the Pokemon might know it's name and come running to her. "Zazzy, come on!" Unfortunately, this worked no better than her silent observation had. She reserved herself to returning to the falls. Perhaps one of her Pokemon would be there waiting with good news. If not, she would climb up herself and search the deeper portions of the cave. As she'd hoped, Swablu was floating where they had parted. She began chirping loudly when she spotted her Trainer. "What is it, did you find the Pokemon?!" She asked. In response, Swablu flew up the cave wall. Katie bit her lip, but grabbed hold of the wall and began pulling her own weight up. She was nervous climbing this high, and even slipped once as her hand-hold gave way, but thankfully she caught herself and continued her vertical venture. When she finally made it to the top and pulled herself over the ledge, she turned back and looked out over the cavern, which glistened with spray from the waterfall she had been so near that entire time. She returned her attention to Swablu just as Rowlet emerged near them. "Swablu found Zazzy." She told Rowlet. "Lead the way." Swablu turned and they all raced in that direction as quickly as they could. -Backpack-

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ It was Swablu who spotted the Pokemon first, and quickened it's pace to high speeds. Katie could not keep up and did not understand what the rush was about. The falls were back the other way and if Zazzy was ahead of them then the only danger could be... oh no. Could it be possible? She braced herself and ran faster. Her fears were realized when she caught up to her flying blue birdie companion. Sure enough - there was a Zigzagoon ahead of them. However, it wasn't alone. There was a wild Pokemon attacking the poor young thing, the sun-shaped body a counter to the crescent moon she had battled when first passing through here herself. "No you don't!" She yelled, successfully distracting all of the Pokemon involved (including her own). She aimed her wrist at the violent opposition and fired the spinning top. As it began to circle around and around, directed by her movements of the control device on her wrist, the Pokemon tried to send waves of psychic energy to stop it cold. She helped the stylus evade these attacks, and the Pokemon glowed brightly enough to light up the cave well. "Listen to me." She ordered. Solrock floated over to her, watching and listening to every word. "When I release you, you are going to go back to your life. You are also going to leave us - and this Pokemon - alone." Solrock seemed to understand, so she entered the code to release the Pokemon and watched it leave in peace. -Backpack-

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Zazzy, most likely due to it's fear, was not cooperating or listening to Katie. She tried to tell the panicked Pokemon that she was only here to help. Unfortunately it did no good. The Pokemon was so absolutely terrified from the attack that it was no longer willing to listen or trust. She knew what she would have to do now. She took aim with the capture stylus and fired the top. It spun around and around. The Pokemon tried to pounce on it, but the small device pivoted and continued it's circling motions. Zazzy glowed, and Katie smiled reassuringly. "Capture complete." She told the now-calmed Pokemon. She leaned down and the Pokemon jumped up into her arms. "We've got to go, quickly." The team rushed through the cavern to the edge of the falls. She looked down, but could not think of a way to get her down - until...
"Rowlet!" She exclaimed, surprising her own Pokemon. Rowlet hooted reproachfully. "You have strong legs, you can fly Zazzy down to the ground!" Rowlet immediately flew over and grabbed the small Pokemon. It was a testament to the Ranger's influence with their Capture Stylus that Zigzagoon did not panic and resist. In fact he almost seemed to enjoy the trip down. Much more - absolutely - than she did on her own way down. The stones were wet and slick, she was not supported by any tethers. Fortunately she made it down alive. Then they all left the cave together; Katie carrying the rescue Pokemon in her arms. -Backpack-

Rookie Ranger♪ My Bartender she's from the islands, her body's been kissed by the sun. Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ As she walked into the cave containing the Meteor Falls, Katie half expected the wild Pokemon inside to attack her. She had meddled in their business a number of times already and that usually didn't end well. However, the immediate cave appeared void of wildlife. She walked inside, closely followed by the three birds, and blinked while her eyes adjusted to the sudden pitch. Sure, it seemed like she was alone... but was she really? She didn't want to take the chance of letting down her guard only to have something attack her.
The trio of birds flew all around the cave, chasing one another, exploring, looking for dangers to the Trainer that (as far as each of them were concerned through the various means of capture) was theirs to protect. They walked along in this manner for about ten minutes before Katie stumbled and twisted her ankle on a loose rock. She winced, sitting herself on a knee-high stone protruding from the wall and rubbing her painful ankle. The birds hurried over to her, worried about what had happened. She smiled through the pain. "I'll be fine. I just need to rest for a few minutes." She knew that until the pain ebbed, she wouldn't be walking anywhere.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Since she was going to be here for a little while, the young blonde decided that she might as well have lunch. She had only brought enough for her and three Pokemon, so she didn't let the others out to share. They would be okay in their Pokeballs until the next time she found herself inside of a Pokemon Center, but the three avian companions had been flying around all morning! They were tired, and hungry. So she shared with them, giving each as much as they could eat and then what was left over is what she ate herself. She would have gone hungry to feed her Pokemon - that's just the sort of person that she was. Sure that lead others to take advantage of her but she knew she couldn't let that change who she was as a person. There were those with dark souls in every walk of life. So it was up to people like her to be the light keeping the darkness at bay. If they didn't, nobody else would. They would bear that cross and take whatever hell they had to in order to make sure nobody else had to go through it.
With lunch finished and the food gone, Katie tried to get back onto her feet. She winced as pain shot through her ankle, stumbled a little, and sat right back down. Maybe it was worse than she originally thought... how long would she be stuck down here? If she couldn't get out then she would have to send one of her Pokemon out to get help. Imagine how bad that would look, the 'Rookie Ranger' got stuck in a cave and had to be rescued. The thought made her sick, so she gritted her teeth and pulled out Scout's Pokeball. -Backpack-

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Her Grovyle was the only one of her Pokemon large enough to help her here. He wasn't as tall as she was but he was able to help her up. She could put some of her weight on the Pokemon, and he could help get her out of this cave. The birds watched, curiously, not really sure what was happening. Swablu and Rowlet both felt bad - if they had been evolved then they could have helped her out with ease. She smiled at them to alleviate their concern but they still felt like they should be doing more to help. So they took flight and flew ahead to make sure the path to the exit was clear.
So they didn't come across any interference on their way out. No Pokemon bothered them, and no Trainers were to be found. She found that to be a good thing because right now she did not want to be around other people. She didn't want to explain how her carelessness had gotten her injured - again. She didn't want to explain how she wanted nothing more than to get out of this Region, but she had a responsibility now as a Ranger. She had to help people. In time, she would be able to request a transfer to another Region but as far as she was concerned this was her home for the time being. She didn't even entertain the idea of quitting the Rangers either. Not now that she had come so far.
Besides... as fearful as she was, a tiny part way deep down inside of her wanted the opportunity to hurt him for everything he had done to her. -Backpack-

The trio of hoodlums marched out of Rustboro City and into the wilds of Hoenn Region. In the last few hours of walking, they hadn't encountered any people or wild Pokemon. Had something happened? He wasn't sure, but he thought the social butterfly that was his ex-... no, his girlfriend, would be around others. Or would she be reclusive and stick to the wilds like he'd originally thought? The truth was he just wasn't sure. It looked like he would just have to look for her everywhere until he found her. He had no idea of course that she had become a Ranger but instead assumed she'd hole up and hide somewhere in case he came looking. 'Well, guess what babes. I'm coming.'
They walked on for a while longer in quiet. Jasper wondered to himself where all the Pokemon had gotten to. It wasn't like he gave off an aura one could sense and hide from, they had to meet him to get a feeling for him like that. A slow breeze flowed through the clearing and helped to cool them off. Perhaps this 'feeling better' was why Rex broke the silence first. "Where did you say we were going again?" He asked, glancing up at his boss and shielding his eyes from the bright mid-day sunlight.Even Lucky, who was cleverer than Rex and knew better than to ask, looked up to see what the answer had been. They knew it was some sort of cave, but Magnus hadn't actually told them which one or what they might find there.
Looking around, Jasper did not answer straight away. He found a tree that seemed to have what he was looking for. Looking straight up like their boss, Rex and Lucky noticed a number of brightly colored fruits at the very top. 'How are we supposed to get to them?' Rex had started to ask. Lucky might have come up with something, but Jasper already had a plan. He pulled out a Pokeball and released his Ultra Beast. "Kartana, fly up there and cut some of those down." He ordered. Kartana stared at him for a moment, perhaps resentful of being bossed around like this but in the end he started to rise up from the ground on the wind. He sliced through one of the branches close to the trunk, and the whole thing came falling towards them. They had to jump out of the way hastily to avoid being crushed and killed.
"I meant cut down the fruit you idiot, not drop a tree on my head!" He shouted in anger. Furiously returning the dimensional Pokemon, he sat down on the fallen limb and began to eat fruit right off the branch. The others followed suit and while they were eating Jasper finally decided to talk. "I think she's in Meteor Falls, just up ahead. She loved caves and always took the chance to explore them when we were young." He left out the fact that she hadn't been able to in the months she'd been held captive against her will because as far as he was concerned, it was her fault she had been put through that. UNTIL THE DAY I DIE Jasper was smarter than most people gave him credit for. He was crafty, and cunning, and didn't set any store by the rules. He wasn't just going to walk blindly into a cave without a plan. Once inside, he turned to Rex. "That mutt you nabbed, bring it out." Knowing better than to disobey a direct order from the leader of their trio, Rex fished out the Pokeball from his pocket and out came the pink Granbull. Jasper had meanwhile been digging around in his bag until finding a small piece of cloth that looked like it might have been ripped from a shirt. He held it up to the Granbull. "Get this scent. Look for it in this cave." Not even the Pokemon would dare defy him when he sounded so threatening and dangerous.
Leaning closer to the fabric and taking a few sniffing breaths, Granbull dropped to all fours and lowered his nose to the ground. He was looking for the matching smell, and was surprised when he actually found it. He gave a grunting bark that sounded like 'grrruff!' and took off after his quarry. All three men raced after the hound, struggling to keep up with his four-legged speed. They came to rest at the very stone Katie had rested for about an hour after injuring her ankle, which had the largest hit of her scent with the path she'd taken to get here having faded. Given another day, even this place would have lost all trace of her presence, so it was really lucky for him that he hadn't wasted any more time.
Rex and Lucky had cottoned onto the plan as soon as Jasper explained it to Granbull, so they didn't bother saying anything in all this time. They didn't dare make a sound now as Jasper threw a temper tantrum, shouting curses and threats echoing off the cavernous walls and down the tunnels around them. Somewhere further in the cave, a young child exploring on his own Pokemon Journey high-tailed it out of there, under the impression he was being hunted by a particularly foul-mouthed ghost. When he settled, the two henchmen took a seat to rest on the rock while he paced.

UNTIL THE DAY I DIE As Jasper paced, muttering and fuming, Rex returned the hound to his Pokeball. They exchanged the occasional glance with one another but didn't interrupt his planning process. This was fine. He could work around this - he could work around anything. They hadn't found her on the way here, and they knew she had been here. She must have moved on. They just had to get out of this cave and find her ahead. Nodding to himself, he set his face and started walking forward without warning. Rex and Lucky hurried to catch up with him, and then keep up with his fast paced movement.
As they stormed ever closer to the exit, the three thugs paid little to no attention to the actual beauty of their surroundings. The cascading water down the sloped stone floors meant nothing to Jasper's singularly driven mind. Somehow Jasper followed the growing signs of Human presence towards the exit, finding it quickly and easily enough without a single word being shared between them. There was a fire burning in Jasper's eye that should have driven off anyone near him in fear.

Elfana Aroway They were halfway through Meteor Falls when Kiro's skin had finally turned completely yellow. His throat and claws had turned a brighter shade of blue but hadn't changed much otherwise. The Toxicroak hadn't wanted to acknowledge the strange new color after leaving the city so Elfana had decided to drop the topic as well. She didn't want to make him any more uncomfortable than he might already be. A cave wasn't entirely horrible when you were distracted by something else. She didn't notice how quickly they were getting through Meteor Falls until they were almost out of it. Elfana couldn't remember much of anything from the cave. She had been far too lost in her own thoughts. "This is what this region is going to be then." She muttered to herself.
