Sitting there at his desk, Birch reflected a bit on himself in all of the work that he'd done, the research he'd completed, the Pokemon he'd tended to... But this... This right here, being able to create a new path for a new trainer, coordinator, researcher, whomever they might be... This was always the most rewarding part of his tenure and experience.
"You're welcome Kaiser, I'm glad that this all sounds like it will be a brilliant path for you," he nodded with her. He watched her closely as she stepped up towards his desk, and it didn't surprise him already that an individual such as her had no question about which starter Pokemon she was wanting to take her first steps into the Pokemon world with. She selected Torchic.
"A fine choice. Fire types can be a challenge, due to the nature of fire itself, but they can be very valuable and loyal," he smiled, standing from his desk then. She asked a simple question then, but there was no simple answer to go with it as he gathered a few items for her to take along with her.
"Where do you start? Well, you start by taking these with you, these basic supplies will help you greatly," he offered first, handing her a small satchel.
"And now, you have officially become a brand new researcher to the Hoenn Pokemon Laboratory," he announced, making a grand official gesture with his arms open wide and a great big smile.
"Your first task is to successfully capture two different Pokemon species from two different locations here around the Hoenn Region. Your Pokedex is a vital tool to learning all about the fantastic creatures that you're going to encounter! Document your experiences, and a bit about the Pokemon that you've captured for this assignment, and send your findings to me," he replied, the first task that he offered to many beginning and budding researchers who were only starting to learn their way around the Pokemon world.
"Your new partner is going to be your very best aid in your learning about the Pokemon world, make sure you give it lots of time out to roam and explore with you that way you can learn from each other," he finished.

"I'll get it done," Kaiser promised with the gravity of a soldier sent to infiltrate enemy lines. In fact, that was exactly how she felt at the moment. She was plunging into unfamiliar territory at the behest of a trusted commander. She had all the tools she needed to succeed—now she just needed results.
And so Kaiser exited Professor Birch's Laboratory with a Pokeball full of Torchic, a satchel full of supplies, and a heart full of resolve.

 Minako Afton The Future Champion A Girl with Red hair with orange highlights walked in one Lavander and One Blue Eye. She seemed to glance around for a moment before speaking- "Hey Uh... Professor Birch Was it? I'm here to get my first pokemon.. D Do you happen to still have any of those adorable mudkips left?" The girl seemed to be a bit worried she might be being too loud and sighed a bit. Was this a good idea? She was a Magma/Aqua Kid... However, Minako pushed the sorrow aside and spoke up- "I wish to travel the region to become Top Coordinator and the Hoenn League Champion!"The Girl continued to be confident although in her head she wondered what the professor was thinking of her, being so headstrong. Then again, she did live in Lilycove home of contests so Most people there were very Eccentric. Hopefully, the professor was used to happy-go-lucky people in his lab. Then again, who wouldn't like her with how kind and sweet she was? Oh great... There went her Pride kicking off again. The Girl then continued to wait for the professor's response, finally calming down a tiny bit after her initial worries. Wisteria HargroveThe Professor had been spending his day fairly calm, he didn't have much that he was planning to do that day, maybe he'd take the day off and go home to his wife early. He was getting his thing ready to end his day early, packing up the books he wanted to read when he heard someone enter the lab. He looked up to se a young woman with rather vibrant hair come in. He gave her a friendly smile as she spoke up, and proclaimed that she wanted a Mudkip to start her journey. His friendly smile turned to that one that was excited. "Of course I do!" He exclaimed happily. She seemed fairly sure of her decision which he was glad to see.The Professor gestured for her to follow as he moved towards the table with the three Pokeballs on them and collected the Mudkip and held it out to her. He began to pull out a few more items as she stated she was going to be both top coordinator and league champion. "That is going to be a lot of work for you and your little Mudkip. But I believe you have it in you." He complimented her, moved by her confidence. It was definitely good to see a trainer-to-be be so sure of herself. "Here are a few other items as well that might help you get started." He offered her, allowing her to take as many pokeballs and potions as she wanted.(I'm glad to see you starting off with us again! mystearicaIt had been a quiet morning in the laboratory that belonged to the renowned Professor Birch, but he knew well enough in his experience that there would be a few new trainers or otherwise coming through the halls like they always did. Low and behold though, as the good professor had come back through the doorways from a hallway, entering into the main of the laboratory, he found himself in the company of a young woman coming in through the front doors.
"Yes, yes come in," he greeted with a big smile, coming towards her.
"Professor Birch at your service" he replied, holding out his hand for a shake. The woman was inquiring about a starter Pokemon, and Birch couldn't help the twinkle in his eye at the prospect.
"Of course, of course! How exciting! Which starter were you looking for today," he asked in response.

mystearicaGreeting the young lady and welcoming her into his Laboratory, Birch was elated at the opportunity to assist a new trainer begin on their journey. It was one of his most favorite parts of his position with the regional Pokemon league, and he looked forward to each new prospect he might meet. He was posed with a common question of wanting to meet some of the starter Pokemon that he had at his lab in order to make the right and best decision, and Birch smiled.
"Why of course! Please, please come this way," Birch beamed, gesturing for her to follow him for only a moment. A lab aid had come out with a tray and two Pokeballs set out on the surface, one for a Torchi and one for a Mudkip just as she had mentioned.
"Inside these two Pokeballs are the Fire type Torchic and the Water type Mudkip, so please, take your time to meet them, and let me know if you have any questions," Birch replied as he set the tray down for her on a nearby desk.

mystearicaEver patient and always wanting to allow new trainers the freedom to make their best decisions, Birch waited and allowed the young woman to take her time in meeting the two starter Pokemon that she had been interested in. It seemed though that the Mudkip had caught her eye that much more, and she soon enough was confident to select the Water type as her new starting Pokemon. Birch smiled, and moved to tenderly pick up the Torchic that hung out in his arms afterwards, and he beamed at the prospect of a brand new trainer ready to travel out into the world.
"A fine decision, really. I'm sure you and Mudkip will get along well," he replied, moving to the next tray that his lab aid had brought out to him.
"Here's Mudkip's Pokeball for you, and some extra supplies as well, and your very own registered Pokedex to begin. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time getting started," Birch offered as he motioned to the tray of items for her to take with her, sending her off with the necessary supplies for her to have a successful start.

The morning weather was awesome and he had no problem walking in a t-shirt with his messenger bag slung across his chest and a wide smile painted across his face, “Is Birch around?”

sublimityJust recently it had been just a tad slow in traffic in the Hoenn Laboratory, the large influx of new trainers coming to receive their starters having depleted for some time. It wasn't an inconvenience by any means, giving the laboratory as a whole the time to for focusing on other things, but while that in itself was rewarding, there was nothing better to the good Professor of Hoenn than sending out a new trainer with the growing unruly starter pokemon he had to care for in their time there, always pleased when an opportunity for just that came up. It seemed perhaps that today might be just the ticket as he was walking through his facility when he heard a voice come in through the open front doors. He smiled, tucking a set of clipboards and paper under one arm before moving out into the main portion of his facility, some of his aids gesturing to a young man that had walked into the lab.
"Afternoon young man! I am Professor Birch, how can I help you today," he offered with a wide smile, coming to a stop as he looked out at his visitor.

It was quiet in the lab with the exception of a few aides until the tubby professor with a pile of papers on a clipboard walked up. He didn’t really envision the professor to be so young, or so big. But he scratched his head and smiled a bright smile at the professor, respect was due after all. “So I realize I’m a little old to be asking for this,” he looked around the lab as he spoke with the smile still on his face, “but I’m planning on starting a good ol’ Pokémon adventure and I need to start somewhere.” He walked near a shelf full of marked binders and ran his fingers across the spines, “so do you still give out Pokémon to new trainers or is that not a thing anymore?” He chuckled as he asked the silly question. This was all out of his realm, so he figured that he would better off just asking than assuming he’d come to get a free Pokémon. sublimityWelcoming the young man inside, Birch smiled widely as he explained his particular situation. Birch nodded along, but gave absolutely no indication that what he'd said was in any way wrong or an issue.
"Nonsense, there's no right or wrong time to take the first steps for a Pokemon journey," he commented, dismissing that right away. It didn't matter if someone started at ten when they could first legally get their license, or at fifty wanting to try something new in their life.
"I absolutely have starter Pokemon available, no question! Do you know which species you were interested in meeting today," Birch inquired then, always happy and elated at the prospect of being able to set up a new trainer with their first partner.

Okada smiled again at the professor as he finished. “Yeah yeah, you have to say that to anyone who comes in here.” He waved off the professor's good natured attitude with a nonchalant flick of his wrist. “I’ve really only seen a few Pokémon battles on TV so I can’t say I know too much about it. I guess I want something strong and cool,” realizing that wasn’t much of a description he crossed his arms and looked at Birch. Scrunching his nose he thought, “maybe something that’s dragon type?” He stroked his chin, unsure of what his options were. Thinking for another moment he shrugged and smiled again, “I dunno, what do you think Prof?” He knew that if he was going to take on the Pokémon leagues he would need to assemble a team of strong partners to help him get there. He really didn’t know all that much about different types. He knew there was a ton of them, and he knew that if he was going to beat up on champions he would need to have a variety of different guys who did different things. sublimityHaving been in his profession for as long as he had at this point, the good professor had seen and met with many different kinds of trainers, and the budding personality of the new trainer to be he had with him today was no exception. So he was the only wants the strongest Pokemon in order to use raw strength for everything he encounters? That was a tough lesson to learn for someone who was already set in their ways.
"Ah, well, unfortunately, you'll have to find dragon types on your own, my job is to provide you with the basics, that way you can learn what's out there," Birch shook his head, denying any dragon type Pokemon.
"I have the fire type Torchic, the grass type Treecko, and the water type Mudkip. Any of which, among any Pokemon species you'll encounter, all have the capability of being strong when trained properly," he replied.

He scrunched his nose again and let out an audible sigh of disappointment. He didn’t expect to get something massively strong but it might be nice to at least have a head start on a bunch of snot-nosed ten year olds. “Uh…” he thought for a second, he wasn’t huge on fire types so torchic was out. And mudkip sounded like it would be dirty, “I guess I’ll take Treecko then.” He wasn’t resoundingly confident in any of those names and was trying to picture any of them to no avail. At least with a Pokémon he would be able to start catching other Pokémon and finding stronger ones. But if any Pokémon could become strong then maybe this Treecko would be able to be strong as well. sublimityBirch waited patiently for the trainer to be to make a decision on what kind of starter Pokemon they would be interested in, it wasn't his place to say one thing or the other in regards to the starters he offered. They were all just as viable partners, and he was only to give facts about them to make sure that a trainer had all the right tools to make their best decision. Only a couple moments passed and the trainer did decide on Treecko, and Birch was happy to oblige. Grass types had a way of teaching the idea that with the proper training and growth opportunities, any Pokemon had the capabilities to take on the strongest opponents.
"An excellent choice, I do have a Treecko available," Birch smiled, motioning for an aide to assist while he placed his clipboards down on a nearby table. Within just a couple moments, he was holding out a tray of items for the new trainer.

Ken approached the professor and the tray, stuffing the pile of pokeballs and potions into his bag to be rearranged later and holding the pokedex and the ball containing the Treecko in his hand. The professor was straightforward and to the point, to a point that’s commendable but if this was how he acted towards kids getting ready to go on journeys it was a completely different ballgame. Despite his frankly unimpressive first glance at the professor he scratched the back of his head and smiled, bowing slightly in respect and using the same sing-song voice he used to greet the lab, “Thank you.” Rising up he sighed and looked at the ball and pokedex in his hand.
“Well, later I guess.” Without having much more to say to the curt professor he spun around his heel and made for the door. Thinking ahead at the battles he would have. But first things first, he would have to check out this Treecko. Brian walked down the road to Professor Birch's lab, a bit of a spring in his step. He'd waited for what seemed like forever to finally get his starter Pokemon, and now that day was finally here. He couldn't help but be happy that his journey was finally about to start. He couldn't blame his mother for wanting him to be fully prepared, but she was adamant that she teach him everything she knew about cooking and caring for himself as well as his Pokemon, so the lessons had taken a lot longer than he'd anticipated. That being said, he was more than ready to start his journey, and his first step was stopping in to see the Professor. As he walked through the doors of the lab, he noticed it seemed quieter than usual, with very few Pokemon sounds coming through to the front. "Professor, are ye in here?" he asked. If the man himself wasn't there, he was sure that one of his assistants could point him in the right direction.

Brian smiled as Professor Birch walked in from the back, a clipboard under his arm. He'd never actually met the man, but he'd heard about him from his parents, and he had to say that he liked the Professor right away. When asked what brought him in, he gestured to the pack he carried on his back. "I'm here to get my starter, if that's alright," he said. "I would have started my journey a lot sooner, but my mother wanted to make sure I knew how to cook and care for myself and my Pokemon, as well as having basic medical knowledge, just in case."

"Why yes of course, you've come to the right place," he nodded, gesturing for him to follow now as he walked him into the main hub of his facility. He spoke though that he was starting late and he had prepared more ahead of time before taking this start to traveling for a Pokemon Journey. Birch listened kindly, ever patient and helpful, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the series of events that lead up to this!
"There's no right or wrong time to start a Pokemon Journey, in fact it sounds like you're going to be even better prepared which could not be farther from a bad thing," Birch beamed.
"Do you know which Pokemon you were interested in meeting today?"
