bluejay1403 Just recently it had been just a tad slow in traffic in the Kalos Laboratory, the large influx of new trainers coming to receive their starters having depleted for some time and Sycamore had been so pleased to assist them all. It wasn't an inconvenience by any means, giving the laboratory as a whole the time to for focusing on other things, but while that in itself was rewarding, there was nothing better to the good Professor of Kalos than sending out a new trainer with the growing eager starter pokemon he had to care for in their time there, always pleased when an opportunity for just that came up. The Pokemon definitely did deserve to be out traveling with a partner to call their own. It seemed perhaps that today might be just the ticket when an eager young man came in through the doors. Sycamore had been in the main of the laboratory, stood at a desk with a series of papers he was looking over when he looked up with a beaming smile at the visitor.
"Ah, I'm right here, Professor Sycamore at your service," the professor smiled, stepping out from the desk then. A new trainer, looking for their first Pokemon, how delightful. "Of course, of course, you've come to just the right place! In fact, the Pokemon should just be finished up with their feeding time about now, why don't you come this way," he smiled, gesturing for Jason to follow, there was a room just off to the side of the large main laboratory space. Sycamore held the door open for Jason to step inside first, and with another lab assistant inside the room, there were three Pokemon surrounding three food bowls on the ground, having their fill of a good meal before getting some more activity for the day.

There he was, the Professor Sycamore. Quite a few people, Jason's sisters among them, would probably argue that he was the best-looking professor, perhaps next to Galar's own Sonia Magnolia. One of the friendliest too, though that was part of the job. As the Professor confirmed that he'd get to meet the three starters immediately, Jason bounced up and down in excitement. "Oh, that's great. Good to know they'll be full of energy~" He followed Professor Sycamore into the side room, waving to the other lab assistant as he did so. It was interesting to see the goings-on in this Pokémon Research Lab, a few kinds of Pokémon he'd only seen on TV or in photos, but observation wasn't why the young performer was here. Jason looked over at the three starters, still enjoying their meal, and there was an audible squee. He was a sucker for cute Pokémon, that was kinda his whole thing, and these three all fit the bill. First-stage Pokémon tended to be like that, he figured. Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie, which one would be his companion? As he saw the trio eating, another thought crossed the boy's mind. "Excuse me, Professor, do you happen to know which kinds and flavours of food each of them prefer? It's a great help to know for building rapport with Pokémon, and to avoid giving them food that they will dislike." Especially for treats~, he added in thought.
As soon as the three Pokémon had finished eating (and the Professor gave the all-clear), Jason stood (not especially tall) in front of them. "Salut~! I'm Jason, and I will be the trainer for one of you. I love to move around and express myself, and hope you will too~" His tone was energetic, but muted to avoid being overly loud (as he sometimes could be). He then sat down, legs crossed and wearing a warm smile to appear as outwardly friendly as he could. His hand was outstretched to the three, to smell if nothing else. He studied them all, trying to glean what he could of their personalities. They were all good-natured, clearly, but which would be the best companion for him? Chespin was the most energetic and jolly of the three, reflecting some of the performer's happy-go-lucky energy back to him. This was promising, though Jason was cautious of potential flavour fatigue, so to speak. Froakie was initially reserved and bashful, not keen to put itself forward or show off. This was the opposite energy, and while it could work, Jason felt that a partner with his same flair for self-expression would work better as a first companion. Fennekin radiated calm confidence, not overly eager but willing to show curiosity and initiative. It was only a first glance, but this was just confirming Jason's earlier inclination towards the Fox Pokémon. His eyes were on Fennekin, now to see if the feeling was mutual.

bluejay1403Stepping inside after holding the door open, Sycamore smiled at the new prospective trainer to be as they moved forward to look out at the three Pokemon that were having their meal. The young man asked a perceptive question, and while he looked to Sycamore, the professor actually looked out to the aid who had been working most closely with the Pokemon in particular, guiding the young man's attention. "Oh, hmm, I haven't really been able to fine tune anything for their food yet... I know that Chespin likes sweet foods I'm pretty sure, and Froakie seems to like anything that we give it, and Fennekin doesn't seem to mind dry foods but doesn't necessarily get excited at them either," the aide offered, having noted the preferences that they had figured out thus far, but it wasn't quite nailed down yet. "Go on, meet them as you would like, we'll start getting your pokedex taken care of for you, take your time," Sycamore encouraged as he stepped back, giving another nod to the aide who took an opportunity to step away, they had a good handful of things that they would have ready for a given new trainer, so they needed to start getting everything ready for when the young man made his life changing decision!

The aide's response, while surprising, wasn't exactly unwelcome news. Learning to care for a Pokémon, discovering every quirk, habit, and preference, was one of his favourite parts of training! He turned to call out to the research aide. "That's a good basis to start from, thank you! Guess I'll have to do some diet research~" He said the last part in a playful sing-song voice, clearly enjoying the notion of experimenting with his partner's food. Still sitting down, Jason fished around in his bag for a few toys, taking them out and placing them on the floor between himself and the three starters. "You guys wanna play~?" Jason figured there would be a little while before he could wrap things up and leave here anyway, preparations and all that, so he took the opportunity to spend a few minutes just enjoying the company of the cute trio of Pokémon. This, too, was another opportunity to study the personality and habits of the three potential first partners, in motion and at play. In front of Jason, 2 paths diverged. Froakie was certainly the battler's choice, but Jason just couldn't see himself taking such a stage-shy Pokémon as his first companion for his journey.
So, the road ahead diverged. Jason saw himself performing with Chespin, igniting the crowd with energy both infectious and boundless, each putting all they have into every routine. Flora and fauna. Jason saw himself performing with Fennekin, amazing the crowd with perfectly-executed moves and coolness under fire. Both content to train until they nail it. Foxes of fire and ice. Two paths diverged... and Jason took the one most travelled-by. "Alright. Okayokayokay, I've made my choice!" He sprung to his feet, beaming. "Fennekin, will you accompany me on my journey to become royalty?" He held out his arm and the Fennekin yipped, jumping up onto the raised arm and resting her head on his. This prompted a giggle from the boy. "Alright, I'll take that as a yes! Now, what about a name? I have a few ready, like... Esmé? Delphine? Corinne? Nadine?" All met with nothing but disinterested looks. "... Renée?" That one prompted an excited yip from the Fennekin, surprising Jason. "Renée it is! Dame Renée~ But don't be disheartened, you two! You're both incredible, and I'm sure you'll meet your trainers soon enough." He'd turned to the other two starters, immediately wishing to console them through (what he assumed must be) a hard thing to watch. After this, though, Jason picked up Renée's Pokéball and approached Professor Sycamore. "So, what now, Professor? Is there anything else I need to do?... Besides getting registered at a Contest Hall, that is."
tl;dr - That's fine :) - Playtime - Paths Diverge - I Choose You! - Name game - What next?

bluejay1403 Professor SycamoreProfessor Sycamore took a step back and allowed the new coordinator to play with the Starters to get a feel for their temperament. It was quite refreshing, most come in with the idea in mind and go with that choice. There wasn't anything wrong with that way of making the decision, but it wasn't often he got to see new trainers or coordinators get to know each other first. He was worried this might make the choice harder. The Professor stepped away for a but to assist other lab techs, but came back after a few moments. It would seem Jason had mad his choice upon his return. The professor accepted back the other starters as he asked what was next. "I suppose that depends on you." Professor commented, moving back towards a near by table. He plucked a few items off of the table. "You can take these items, they should assist you along the way. " Sycamore started, holding out the items for Jason to collect. "After we get you registered, what happens next is up to you. Most like to start building their teams, whether that be local Pokemon or not. For coordinators, some like to travel to collect the Pokemon they would like for their teams, and start working with them." He explained. "You have a long life journey together with your Pokemon, make it what you want it to be. Toute la vie devant toi" The professor explained with a friendly smile. Jason took the items given to him, making a mental note to always keep stocked up on Pokéballs & Potions. Listening to the Professor, he couldn't help but get excited about the endless possibilities the future held. That last line especially, 'All of life is ahead of you.', sparked something in his mind. What was he waiting for?! Bouncing on his feet, the young Performer beamed. "Alright, thanks for the help, Professor Sycamore! Allons-y, let's get this show on the road, Renée!" With no more but a wave, Jason took off out of the Kalos Lab and began on his way to nearby Vaniville Town. Blue skies, dotted with fluffy white clouds. The flowers that lined the Vaniville roads in full bloom.
