They took an elevator down a couple of floors that required Crystal to slide her key card to access. Once the doors of the elevator opened up, it could be seen that the entire floor was one large laboratory with many stations for research and testing. “Here we go! Roark should be around here somewhere…” Crystal said as they stepped out of the elevator. They walked forward, looking for Roark’s distinctive burgundy hair color. Quinn saw him looking over some notes at a counter a bit away and pointed Crystal in his direction. They all then went in Roark’s direction. “Mr. Roark, it is good to see you again!” Crystal greeted Roark as they approached his work desk. “Ah, good to see you too, Crystal,” Roark said as he turned around in his chair, “Oh! And you brought a guest too, the one and only Quinn Liberati!” “Hello again, Roark. It is a pleasure to see you again as well. I hope my unexpected arrival is not an inconvenience.” “No, of course not! It is always nice to see you, Quinn!” Roark replied, getting up from his seat to shake Quinn’s hand. “Mr. Roark, what was it that you would like to discuss with me?” Crystal asked as he was shaking Quinn’s hand. “Ah, right. Well, it is actually a good thing that Quinn is here, too, considering her specialty. We seem to have revived a Shieldon with a peculiar color. We heard reports of fossil Pokemon offspring having unusual colors in some rare instances, but never when directly revived from a fossil. Would you both mind following me to where we are housing it with some insights?” Quinn tried her best to remain calm but, as she had never seen an abnormally colored fossil Pokemon before, she could hardly contain herself internally. “Of course!” They both responded. Quinn pretended to clear her throat for a moment and corrected herself, “I mean, yes, it would be my pleasure.”

Roark smiled before taking the two of them to the other half of the floor where the live Pokemon area was. Inside was a surprisingly lush room full of plants, water features, and of course, fossil Pokemon. The ceiling had special lights to simulate the sun and the Pokemon seemed quite at peace. A Cranidos walked up to the group when they entered and made a cheery noise. “It’s good to see you too, buddy!” Roark said as he patted the Pokemon on its head. The Cranidos then went back to whatever it was doing as the group continued until they encountered a Shieldon with a much more dull appearance than they normally had. Quinn and Crystal were in awe at the spectacle. The Shieldon seemed kind and docile, like most other Shieldon, as it came right up to the approaching group to say hello. However, the Shieldon’s body color seemed to be a rather dark black color, rather than the typical beige color they had. The metal bands on its body too were a bit darker than the shiny silver they often are. “It appears you all have managed to revive a melanistic Shieldon. How fascinating!” Quinn remarked. “It would indeed appear so, but it is possible that it was simply a fluke in the revival process. Although, we’d like to think it was simply a byproduct of the original Pokemon’s DNA.” “It is so beautiful and I certainly can’t wait to see it as a Bastiodon one day with this unique color!” Quinn thought for a moment before making a request, “Would you mind if I sent out one of my other Pokemon to meet the Shieldon?” “Oh, of course, as long as it isn’t hostile!” Roark replied. Quinn then reached into her pocket for the Pokeball of Noira and sent her out. The Pokemon greeted Quinn at first before turning around to see the Shieldon. The two Pokemon investigated each other before playing for a bit. “As you can see, my Ducklett Noira is also a melanistic Pokemon. I thought it would be a good experience for both of them to meet each to know there are other Pokemon like them out there. Of course, some Pokemon species are naturally darker in color, but I suspect neither of these two has met many, if any, Pokemon with their unique trait.” “I am sure you are right in that meeting each other will boost their own confidence, Quinn. It is interesting to see that, beyond its coloration, the Shieldon is otherwise a normal Shieldon,” Crystal added on. “All the tests we have run on it so far seem to suggest so, yes. Crystal, I want you to be this Shieldon’s main companion from now on, okay?” “Me? But wouldn’t you want someone more experienced looking after this unique Pokemon?” “As I said, this is essentially a normal Shieldon with a slightly different color. I chose this little guy for you because I know you two will be a good fit for each other since he’ll be your first fossil companion here in the lab.” “Ah, well, thanks! I will try my best to make him feel loved!” “That is what I want to hear! Now, Quinn and I will leave you to connect with the Shieldon. I suspect she has something else she wants to discuss with me specifically.” “Alright. I will see you later then, Roark. It was nice to meet you, Quinn!” “Likewise, Crystal! Noira, come along now, please.”

Noira heard Quinn call for her and said goodbye to her new friend before following Quinn and Roark back up to the lab area of the floor they were on. Once they entered the labs, Roark asked Quinn, “So, Quinn, what is it that you wanted to ask me? I hope it isn’t about your parents or something bad…” “Ah, no, not this time, fortunately. But, with my new role training under Professor Juniper, I was given a task that you might be able to help me with. She requested that I capture two wild, ancient Pokemon. Of course, I would never request to capture the fossil Pokemon here for study, but perhaps you knew of some places here in Sinnoh where I might find these ancient Pokemon.” “Unfortunately, I don’t really think Sinnoh has many ancient Pokemon still around besides our fossils. Bronzor and Bronzong are really the only two that come to mind, the former of which you can find easily in Mt. Coronet. I wish I could be of more help to you Quinn, sorry, though. But, I am glad it was a more benign question!” “I see. That is understandable, Roark. Your help is much appreciated. I should probably head out to Mt. Coronet then tomorrow morning.” “Ah, busy bee Quinn. Can’t just take a break for once. Well, whatever you decide to do, just be safe. I’m always here in Oreburgh if you need anything!” “Thank you again, Roark. I’ll be off then.”

Quinn, Cyan, and Noira went back up the stairs to the main floor and exited the building. After taking a few steps though, she turned around to the sound of someone calling out her name. It was Roark again. “Quinn! I forgot to give you this earlier!” Roark caught up to Quinn and handed her two objects surprisingly heavy for their size. Quinn recognized them immediately. “A Jaw Fossil and a Plume Fossil? Wouldn’t you want to keep these for your studies?” “They were actually sent over here for some analysis, but we are done with it now. The Kalos Museum didn’t seem to want it and we can’t do much with them with our equipment specialized for this region’s fossils, so I thought why not hand them to you and maybe you’ll find some use for them,” Roark said grinning. “Well, thank you, first off. I will certainly find a use for them in the future. Maybe I should go to Kalos next after capturing the Bronzor… Thank you, Roark.” “Good to hear! Now, I do have to go before they catch me handing out fossils, but safe travels, Quinn!” Roark said as he waved while running back into the museum. Quinn tried to recenter herself and focus on the task at hand when she received a message on her Pokedex, which rang with an odd ding. “Strange that I would get a message on my Pokedex…” She said aloud. {Party (Active)} Party:

She pulled out the device and read the message which had a bunch of flamboyant lingo but could be summarized as her having been “randomly” selected to test out some sort of “Discovery Island.” Quinn didn’t think much of it while reading it, but considering it went directly to her Pokedex, it is one of three things, she thought to herself; an elaborate scam, a trick by her parents, or a league-sponsored trip. The part that most concerned her was that she would be required to have only 3 Pokemon with her during the trip, so considering that and the roughly ⅔ random odds of it not being good, she didn’t want to risk it. As she went to click the decline button, though, her Pokedex glitched and the accept button appeared beneath her thumb. A brief load screen appeared followed by confetti on it that announced she had accepted. “What just happened?! I hit decline…” {Party (Active)} Party:

Her Pokedex then showed her coordinates and instructions on what to do next. It said to wait for her travel to arrive in the morning, but considering the weird thing with her Pokedex, she did not want to risk that and decided that if she had to go, she would make her own travel arrangements. She pulled out her X-transceiver and called Charles on their secured line, letting him know she needed a private jet to the location from her Pokedex by tomorrow morning, “Not the tallest of tasks you have given me yet, m’lady, but of course, I can oblige and get you there before then. You said you were in Oreburgh City? I shall see you at the private airport in several hours. I’ll make haste. Also, I’d have your Pokedex checked out, seems like it might have a trickster in it… See you soon, Ms. Liberati,” And with that, Charles hung up the call. Quinn set her Pokedex down on the ground and stepped a few feet away before whispering to her X-transceiver with Apostrophe in it, “I need you to get our hacker out of my Pokedex. Whatever it is is unwanted.” Apostrophe nodded on the screen before hopping over to the Pokedex through a wireless signal. From the Pokedex came some rather peculiar noises before, just as suspected, a Rotom popped out of it being wrestled by Apostrophe. The two chased each other for a few moments before Quinn got annoyed at the sight and commanded Cyan to handle the situation. He moved quickly, ensuring he only hit the Rotom and not Apostrophe. Being knocked out by this point, Quinn threw a Pokeball at the Rotom and picked it up once it stopped shaking. “I’ll deal with you later, Rascal Rotom… Good job, Apostrophe and Cyan. Now, we wait for Charles.” {Party (Active)} Party:

After waiting a few hours at a small cafe in town, Quinn got a message from Charles that he was landing, so they all made their way to the airport. At this point, night had fallen but the streets remained relatively well lit. Quinn entered the airport and let staff know she was expecting her plane to arrive and they let her through. Once at her private jet, she could not help but give Charles a hug before boarding. After takeoff, Quinn better explained her need for a plane on such short notice. “I see… That is a rather odd message to get from your Pokedex, even stranger that a Rotom forced you to accept when you tried to decline. I would be cautious. Are you actually planning to leave all but three of your Pokemon before you get on the island?” “Yes, I think I have to, but don’t worry, we can keep each other safe. As such, here, Charles,” Quinn said, reaching into her pockets for her Pokeballs and placing them in the cup holders between their two pit seats. “You can’t be serious, m’lady?! I mean, I am in no place to question your actions, but this seems needlessly risky…” “I am aware of that, but, if someone is really trying to trap me, I guess we will just have to find out. Of course, Cyan will stay with me. I will also be taking Sakura, the Mawile I mentioned I recently came across who I believe can mega evolve with the stone I found with her Pokeball. The last one will be Luxovious, the Chinchou that has proven his strength to me so far in Alamos Town. Granted, I also realize taking three rather high-profile Pokemon like them is a bit risky, but they can all take care of themselves should we get separated too. I have thought this through, Charles, so don’t worry.” “You know I will still worry, but I will trust you, as I always have. Let me know once I need to pick you up. I will keep your Pokemon safe until then. For now, though, you should get some rest. It will be a while till we get to the island.” “Thank you, Charles,” Quinn said before getting up and heading to the back to rest up. {Party (Active)} Party:
