If he were living here and was just trying to stay safe, he probably would have already left, which could probably explain why the city in general was so quiet… He wouldn’t blame people for trying to leave in droves in order to keep safe from the intense electrical charges that were surging through the city. In any case, the Pokedex identified another potential electric type that might be able to help them, and as Nangi did her best to strike the incredibly small shape of it, Copper threw a Pokeball in order to grow his numbers a little bit more. Another electric type captured, and maybe another friend that would understand that he was only trying to help the city that they were swarming in and not cause them any undue harm.

Nangi couldn’t keep up with their electrically charged speed and trumpeted as she fell to their quick strikes, and now Copper had almost three fainted pokemon on his hands. He panicked, trying to thin out the assaulting Pokemon as he threw a Pokeball, and caught Arghett as the Zubat fell out of the air, running away from the rest of the scene as quickly as he could. ”Find the Pokemon Center,” he shouted, bidding Cassio in front of him as he gathered the grip of his leash. ”Okay okay! It’s uh, it’s this way! Go down that road,” Dexxit replied, hovering as Copper ran and Cassio lead them, and he held Arghett clutched close to his chest as he kept his pace. He needed to make sure that Nangi was alright, and the Pichu that he caught couldn’t keep up with all of the Pokemon that had swarmed them either, this was really starting to get dangerous, and he only hoped that his Pokemon would be alright.

Everything they did was running on electricity, and Copper could figure that a power outage would be easier to handle than a power overage… He and Cassio burst through the doors of the Pokemon Center, losing the hoard of electric type Pokemon that had been rushing after, with Dexxit following close behind. Nangi was out for the count with how super charged those electric Pokemon were, and Arghett was covered in electricity after getting knocked out of the air. Copper could hardly walk through the Pokemon Center without getting shocked and zapped by every available surface that he even came close to, and the Nurse Joy there had a few choice words about how they were incredibly limited by what they were capable of doing without shorting out and ruining the entire building, and then where would they be? Copper felt bad… He could understand the risk of Pokemon being in danger without being able to assist them if something bad did happen, but he couldn’t stop on his mission now, he wanted to get to the space time towers with the electric type Pokemon that he’d captured just to help… Leaving the Pokemon Center after a little bit more scorning, Copper was beginning to regret his decision as an impossibly large Pokemon started attacking them in the city streets, another one of those Dynamax things that the pokedex had identified…

Copper could see the irony in the situation of being told by the nurse joy that this was all too dangerous to be out and about and he should find somewhere safe to hunker down in to wait out this terrible electric storm and then stepping outside to be immediately attacked by a larger than life Pokemon… But he didn’t want to admit defeat… He was out here really trying to at least do and accomplish something, and he was still taking care of his Pokemon in the process. Nangi was doing fine and getting more and more acclimated to how the battles were working here, and if she did truly show signs of severe injury Copper obviously wouldn’t be forcing her into these battles… And fortunately for most of them, like the flat shaped thing that Nangi swept away with her trunk, it was mostly that these electric types were super charged and could move so much faster than she could, but that was also to be expected with her general size… She was quite large.

For a town, it sure did seem a lot bigger in not being referred to as a city, but Copper had to think that that probably attributed to it not having any giant skyscrs or anything like that, not like Nimbasa City or even Castelia City which was absolutely massive, and tall. Copper hoped that he and the small band of electric types that he was able to capture and would keep capturing at the occasional opportunity would be able to stop lightning from striking the towers and probably destroying those parts of the city that it might rebound off of… He could just feel the electricity getting stronger as time went on, and the thunder was consistent, and getting louder it sounded like. There was no telling how super charged the storm was going to keep getting if electric types continued to flock to this area, and it wouldn’t even really be their fault, it would just be the culmination of all of their electrical charges surging through the city at once… Copper sighed, this wasn’t really what he signed up for when wanting to come to Alamos town as a visitor, and as Nangi swept away another zapping Pokemon trying to attack, he felt more like the protector at this point instead of a visitor…

Copper started to think about the different kind of electric type Pokemon that he had caught, and wondering maybe if he would be able to befriend them after maybe the electric storm was over and everything was back to normal? He knew it wasn’t one hundred percent fair that he was just catching them outright and then was looking to expect them to deter lightning that might strike the city, but he wasn’t going to keep them against their will if they didn’t want to stay or travel with him after the fact, so that should help? He was really interested in them that he’s captured so far, with some of the stuff that the pokedex was talking about, and he was really wanting to try to learn more about Pokemon in general, and he felt like this was a good step. Nangi swept another Pokemon out of the way that had zapped at her, and she flapped her ears indignantly at being zapped, just trying to keep stepping through the city with Copper as they moved onward.

Throwing another Pokeball at a Pokemon that she swept her trunk at, something called a Yamper, Copper understood that it was time for Nangi to take a bit of a rest. He wasn’t sure if he might need her later, but it was worth it to him to make sure that she was rested and understood that he wasn’t just trying to use her for her strength. The decision was contested a bit with Cassio huffing beside him, but Copper knew that Cassio was exceptionally strong in and of himself to help out if needed, and Copper had kind of been paying attention and figured out that other electric types were having an easier time against other electric types right now, so now he had the tiny Pichu out with him in order to keep moving through the streets, wondering if this would work out so Nangi could take a good rest for the time being.

Something so small was capable of such great power, and it really spoke to his over all observation earlier that Electric types in general seemed to be very small in comparison to other species of Pokemon, even Ostinato as an Oshawott was bigger than most of the electric type Pokemon he had encountered thus far. He wasn’t sure if maybe it was partially due maybe to the super charging storm that was drawing all of the electric types in, maybe the abundance of electricity was making them stronger inherently when they might be executing their electric type attacks, but even that aside, as the small Pichu went to take on a Stunfisk that crossed them, the little mouse did not need any more than the single strike to do it, and that was quite impressive.

So far, it didn’t seem like things had attracted enough electricity to generate a lightning storm, but that didn’t mean that that couldn’t happen if more and more electric types continued to swarm the area. It might not even be from the storm itself, it could just culminate with having to much electrical energy in the air around the city that could cause a chain reaction of lightning strikes, the electricity would have to go somewhere to diffuse if it built up too much, and that in and of itself sounded like it could be worse than a plain old lightning storm… Copper kept moving, the Pichu having to rest a bit here and there from probably being young still, but it seemed like the abundance of electricity kept it charged with energy as it managed to fend off another electric type that came towards them.

As Quinn, Cyan, Sakura neared Alamos Town, they had noticed it was covered by rather ominous, dark clouds. Even from afar, they could see the sky occasionally light up with lightning. To add to that, once close enough, Quinn could feel her hair begin to stand up due to static in the air. As they got closer, the static became stronger and stronger till the three of them found it hard to move, as if they were trying to move while paralyzed. Quinn tried to check her X-transceiver but it was acting strange and the static was clearly affecting Apostrophe too, so she put them in their Pokeball for comfort. Electrophorus came out of his Pokeball and seemed to enjoy the extra electricity, moving even faster than normal. “I guess it makes sense for you to be enjoying this, Phours,” Quinn said trying to smile through her discomfort. Once actually in the town, all of them besides Electrophorus were having a difficult time moving around. They could see that the lightning they had seen earlier was striking various parts of the town, typically the Space-Time Tower the city was known for. The town looked abandoned and particularly haunted due to the darkness from the clouds above that would light up the city when lightning struck. Just as Quinn had read in the notes from Aiden along the way to Alamos Town, the town was overrun with electric-type Pokemon. She had thought it was due to the peculiar weather phenomena of the area right now, but then had doubts about that hypothesis once she began to see Pokemon from other regions here. Something else must have been causing them to gather here like this and perhaps they stayed because of the weather. It was odd, and Quinn wanted to get to the bottom of it, but, she had to find Professor Rowan and Gwen first. This would prove hard though as communications in, out, and within the city were not working, let alone the devices to send said communications. {Party (Active)}

The group walked a bit through the city and down an alleyway when they were ambushed by a Voltorb that had fallen from somewhere up in the buildings on either side. Quinn, Cyan, and Sakura tried to move out of the way but were too slow to do so in time. Thankfully, Phorus saw and intervened, zapping the Voltorb with a Charge Beam which, to Quinn’s surprise knocked out the Pokemon, causing it to land harmlessly on the ground near them. “Thank you for that, Phorus. Though, I do wonder how your attack knocked out the Voltorb instead of simply just sending it away from us. It shouldn’t have been strong enough to knock it out from a type advantage perspective. Odd…” Quinn said as she raised her hand to her chin to ponder the situation,” Professor Juniper also said to collect specimens for future study, so we will be adding to our team as we go.” Quinn took out a Pokeball and tapped the unconscious Voltorb with it. If her Pokedex weren’t also affected by the static, she would have used it to do some preobservations on the Voltorb. So, she had to wait and be patient. Though she wanted to search for Gwen and Professor Rowan more efficiently, considering the unpredictable nature of the situation, she thought it would be best for all of them to stick together. This was especially the case since it seemed that Electrophorus was currently the most capable of them all considering the paralyzing static in the air. Battle Summary: Electrophorus (Lev. 23) vs. Voltorb w/ Wonderguard (Lev. 7) Electrophorus used Charge Beam, Voltorb hp (50-80=0) Electrophorus gains 8 exp. Voltorb is successfully captured.

Quinn and her party tried their best to continue searching despite the conditions. They eventually found themselves near one of the bridges of Alamos Town. Quinn and Cyan had surveyed the area and thought it seemed too calm for the situation and were weary to cross the bridge considering how open it would leave them. “We should reconsider our route,” Quinn said as she attempted to find an alternative. Unfortunately, it seemed that to get to the other side of town, this was the fastest way without traveling much farther than Quinn would have liked. Cyan looked up at Quinn awaiting instruction. She thought for a moment before speaking, “Phorus, be especially alert as we cross the bridge. This is the fastest route we have to get across to the other part of town. Proceed with caution, everyone.” The bridge itself seemed rather sturdy but was rather long, crossing a canal that currently flowed with a rush of electrifying water. Quinn and her team began to cross the bridge. Despite not seeming to be a bridge that would make noise upon walking on it, Quinn noticed a rather distinct squeaking noise as they made their way across. She tried not to let it bother her at first and thought it was just a trick of the static, but Cyan could tell she was concerned about it as well. {Party (Active)} Party:

They all eventually reached the halfway point of the bridge which was marked by a rather interesting metal statue. It seemed to be of a maiden in prayer. Quinn had heard of it before and how different people thought she prayed to different gods as it was never made clear to whom she was praying. She wondered if perhaps it didn’t matter which god she prayed to as long as it gave her and others hope. As they stopped by the statue to rest, the squeaking noise became more and more noticeable until it could be distinguished that there was more than one source of the squeaks. Quinn attempted to get up and brace herself for whatever could be coming when a group of Morpeko climbed up from the side of the bridge and surrounded the group. Despite their typical docile nature, they appeared to be in their hangry mode right now and were none too pleased by the party’s presence on the bridge. There were too many for Phorus to fight on her own, so Quinn, Cyan, and Sakura also braced themselves to fight. As the Morpeko drew near though, it almost seemed as if the static was getting stronger, making it harder for all but Phorus and the Morpeko to move. Quinn realized they were trapped, but that they may be able to take the Morpeko on if they whittle them down one by one. However, this plan never came to be as from behind their side of the bridge a splashing noise came from the canal water. Quinn turned to see the source of the noise and saw a brilliantly colored Chinchou standing atop the praying maiden statue. Though also temporarily distracted, the Morpeko decided to now use this as a time to attack and jumped toward Quinn and the others. The Chinchou quickly darted in front of Quinn, Cyan, and Sakura before letting out a Blizzard attack at the oncoming Morpeko. The Chinchou’s speed had shocked even Phorus, but, its quick reaction stopped the Morpeko in their tracks, knocking all five of them out. Quinn had barely managed to move fast enough to see everything happen. She was both thankful and impressed by the Chinchou, not to mention in awe at its magnificent iridescent colors. With the Morpeko knocked out, Quinn used this opportunity to capture one with a Pokeball before they came to. Battle Summary: Chinchou (Lev. 5) vs. 5x Morpeko (Lev. 1) Chinchou used Blizzard, Morpeko x5 hp (30-100=0) Chinchou gains 90 exp. Morpeko x1 is successfully captured {Party (Active)} Party:

The Chinchou came up to Quinn and seemed to try to introduce itself. As it did, the glow of its body pulsated rapidly, as if to show it was excited to meet her. Quinn smiled gently, “Thank you so much for your help. You really saved us there, quite heroic of you.” The Chinchou took a proud pose before seemingly realizing something important. It reached out for Quinn’s hand. She hesitated unsure how touching an electric type might feel with this weather, but she eventually did and it felt as if the Chinchou absorbed her excess static, allowing her to move much more easily. Feeling this happen, she returned Sakura and told Phorus to lay on Cyan’s head. Similarly, Cyan’s static was also absorbed by Phorus, making him much more comfortable than he had been. The Chinchou then began to lead Quinn across the rest of the bridge, but she found it awkward leaning so far down to hold the small Pokemon’s fin. “Would you mind if I carried you and you pointed in the direction you want me to go?” The Chinchou thought briefly before agreeing that this would be better and nodding to Quinn. She picked up the Pokemon and began to power walk the rest of the way. Once they reached the end of the bridge, the Chinchou gestured into the nearby forested area. Quinn followed its directions, turning when it pointed a different way and trying her best to make haste. Eventually, they reached a seemingly inconspicuous spot in the woods and the Chinchou jumped out of Quinn’s arms. It hopped into a nearby bush, disappearing momentarily before hopping back out. Shortly after the Chinchou returned, a couple of other Pokemon came out of the bushes too. {Party (Active)} Party:

To Quinn’s surprise, these Pokemon were also of atypical coloration, making her think that perhaps phenotypic abnormalities were more common than she initially thought, either that or the strange weather could also have had some effect on these Pokemon. One of them was a black-wooled Mareep with white skin and a lightning-shaped pattern on the sides of its wool coat. The other was a Grubbin with a mostly silver body and gray face, with red pincers, head cap, and body spots. Cyan stayed on high alert as these were unfamiliar Pokemon in an unfamiliar setting. Quinn, however, could tell that the Grubbin was injured. It appeared that the Mareep and Chinhou were caring for it but could not heal its wounds. Perhaps it was also being affected by the weather as it hadn’t yet evolved into an electric type. Quinn knelt down and pulled out some supplies from her bag to heal the Grubbin. As she did so, the Chinchou and Mareep leaned on her sides, most likely to help with the excess static charge from the air. She gave the Pokemon a couple of berries and sprayed some medicine on it. It seemed to be doing much better after this and even gently shook her hand with its pincers. The Mareep and Chinchou jumped up for joy upon seeing this. “It was the least I could do to show thanks, but I am glad you all are happy.” Cyan calmed down a bit after seeing this interaction, but still kept an eye out around them as they may be attacked at any moment. Quinn had failed to notice while watching the Mareep and Chinchou that the Grubbin had been snooping through her bag that was still on the floor. It had grabbed one of her Pokeballs before walking up to her and nudging her with it. Once she turned to the Pokemon, it raised up the ball in a pleading manner. “Did you want to come with us?” Quinn asked, genuinely surprised by the gesture. The Grubbin nodded with the ball still in its pincers. She reached down and grabbed the Pokeball before tapping the Pokemon on its head with it. Seeing this, the Mareep and Chinchou looked at each other before nodding in agreement. They then too went up to Quinn and pointed at the Pokeball. “Of course, you all can also join us on our journey!” However, as Quinn went to reach for more Pokeballs, she realized she only had two left despite thinking she had more. One was a regular Pokeball and she used that on the Mareep. The other, though, was a special, and experimental, ball she had been gifted once by her father. Though she had never planned to use it, she had been told that, in theory, it would heal status and stat drops in battle when the Pokemon was returned in battle. She hesitated as she pulled out the ball, unsure if perhaps it was another trick by her parents. However, before she could decide to use it, the Chinchou happily jumped up and touched the button on the ball, being absorbed into it in the process. {Party (Active)} Party:

Quinn was concerned and sent out the Chinchou immediately along with the other Pokemon. To her surprise and relief, the Chinchou seemed fine, quite happy, actually. “Before we continue our search for my friends, it would be best if I gave you all names.” She looked at all three of them for a moment, taking into consideration mostly their appearances and what she knew of their personalities so far before deciding on names. “Alright, you,” she began, pointing at the Grubbin, “shall be called Mercury. Considering your silver and red coloring along with the fact that you will one day be an electric type, I feel the name is quite fitting.” The Grubbin raised its mandibles in joy. Quinn then returned the Pokemon to its Pokeball. “Now, Mareep’s name will be Caprele, from electricity and scientific names for your group of Pokemon.” The Mareep nodded in satisfaction before also being returned to its Pokeball. “Chinchou, considering your heroic personality and brilliant appearance, Luxovious, or Lux for short, seems fitting to me.” Luxovious stood up proudly and glimmered brilliantly for a moment. Quinn left him out of his Pokeball as she planned to use him to absorb her static as well as him for guidance in finding Gwen and Professor Rowan. She picked up Lux and placed him on her head. She was about to ask Lux for directions when a deafening crack of thunder came from the sky. Quinn stopped and peered through the tree canopy towards the Space-Time Tower as it was the only structure that could be seen from this angle. A few seconds passed before the electricity in the air grew quickly, causing the hair on her body to stand up despite Lux’s touch. Lux and Phorus began to glow from electricity until it suddenly dissipated. A brief moment later a huge bolt of lighting fell from the sky and engulfed the Space-Time Tower, causing it to shine blindingly bright for several seconds. {Party (Active)} Party:

Once the lightning had gone away though, the sky immediately cleared. In fact, it looked almost as if the weather was not nearly pitch black a moment ago. Quinn surveyed around her to make sure everyone was okay before her X-transceiver pinged with a new message, much to her surprise. She checked it and it seemed as if the cellular signal was working again as she saw a message from Gwen asking if she was okay. Rather than informally message her back, she attempted to call Gwen instead. She answered a moment later, “Hello? Quinn? Are you alright?” Quinn was relieved to see Gwen unscathed on her screen. “Yes, I am fine. I was sent here to Alamos Town by Professor Juniper to try to contact you all, but the electricity made it difficult to get very far or message you all virtually. Are you all well?” “Yes, we are fine. We were making observations near the Space-Time Tower before that bolt of lightning struck it. Thankfully, one of Professor Rowan’s Pokemon teleported us away just in time to not get caught in that. We can meet up with you now as it seems the strange phenomena has disappeared suddenly. We are having a hard time even locating any of the originally sighted electric types that were roaming around the city despite us knowing there were quite a few just before the lightning strike.” “My Pokemon and I are in a wooded area across one of the main bridges facing the Space-Time Tower.” “Send us your exact location and we can teleport there in a moment.” “I am glad to see you are safe. I’ll send my location once we hang up.” “I am glad you are safe too, though I know a bit of electricity can’t stop the magnificent Quinn Liberati!” Gwen replied, changing from being sincere at first to a bit more comical at the end. {Party (Active)} Party:

Quinn smiled before she hung up and sent their location to Gwen. They all waited a few moments before a brief flash of light appeared nearby followed by Gwen and Professor Rowan’s appearance. “Quinn!” Gwen called out before rushing over to hug her. The two hugged for a moment to reassure themselves that the other was okay before stepping away from each other. “Who is your new friend on your head? Quite the cutie and so colorful!” “Ah, this is Luxovious. We met recently during this insane weather event. I can tell you more about him in a moment, but it seems Professor Rowan wants to discuss something,” Quinn replied before turning to Professor Rowan. “Ms. Liberati,” Professor Rowan began, “We were unaware of your search for us, though that is not your fault at all. I assume you were also researching the mysterious phenomenon as well as you were searching for us?” “Ah, yes, Professor Juniper was just barely able to instruct me to capture specimens of Pokemon from the strange natural event. I was able to capture some, but not nearly as many as I presume were here in the town only moments ago.” {Party (Active)} Party:

“We are glad you did that and thank you. We were more concerned with the cause of the occurrence and trying to reverse it to actually collect specimens for further observations. We did not expect it to end so suddenly, but what we could get done of our studies suggested that the event in Alamos Town and beyond could have been caused by ripples in space-time. While from some perspectives, this could be a “natural” occurrence, we have seen before that these ripples can be caused by human interference, though not necessarily on as large a scale as what we saw recently. With communications back up, we’ll have to consult with the other scientists of the world and see if we can come to a consensus on the cause, though, as mentioned, space-time ripples are a strong candidate.” “That is an interesting hypothesis that seems plausible, though it does not necessarily address other, secondary effects from the event. Though it could have been purely a coincidence, I did happen to find not one but three Pokemon with rather unique phenotypic abnormalities that seemed to be caring for each other. I suspect that either the space-time ripples produced a sort of radiation that caused these abnormalities to be more common in the affected areas or, although less likely, the ripples preferentially materialized Pokemon with these unique traits,” Quinn responded to Professor Rowan, thinking of her recent encounter with Luxovious, Caprele, and Mercury. “That is an interesting point you bring up, Quinn, because we too did see an abnormally high amount of Pokemon with abnormal appearances. I’m assuming the rainbow-colored Chinchou on your head, Quinn, was one of these Pokemon you encountered and seemingly befriended. How many would you say we saw, Professor Rowan?” Gwen followed up. “I would say that at least one out of every ten we saw had what Ms. Liberati previously described as phenotypic abnormalities. I am glad you managed to capture at least one of these Pokemon.” {Party (Active)} Party:

“I did, though, to be more precise they captured themselves after deciding to join my team when I had healed one of their party members. Yes, I said ‘they’ as in there were three I managed to pseudocapture in the method I mentioned a moment ago,” “Our electrical wave detector can also function as detecting radiation of different kinds, though it didn’t occur to us to use that feature during the storm event. We could use it to see what kind of radiation emanates from the Pokemon. I wish you had been with us to provide your insight.” Quinn felt a bit proud to be acknowledged by Professor Rowan, “It couldn’t have been helped, but yes, on my head is one of the Pokemon. I have named him Luxovious.” “Oh! I love that name!” Professor Rowan stepped towards Quinn and waved the device in front of Lux who looked at it curiously as his body glowed many colors. “Hmmm, it seems there is an abnormally high amount of cosmic radiation coming from your Chinchou. While not harmful on these scales to it or those nearby, if it had been exposed to a high amount of this radiation in getting to Alamos Town, that would explain the phenotypic abnormality. Though, how it got exposed to such levels is another mystery…” Professor Rowan analyzed. As Professor Rowan finished, Quinn’s X-Transceiver began to ring. “Hello?” Quinn answered as she powered on the device. “Quinn? Are you alright?” Said a frazzled Professor Juniper on the screen. “Yes, I am here with Professor Rowan and Gwen now. It seems the Pokemon and weather have gone back to normal here in Alamos Town. “As I suspected. It seems the same has happened here in Black City and beyond. I have gotten reports from other professors across the regions stating similar experiences. This will be something we will have to look into more in the future. In the meantime, I now have time to let you know of your next task since I feel that may be closer to what you wish to study. Your next task is to find and capture two, ancient, wild Pokemon and report back to me once this is done. Glad to see you are safe and managed to connect with Professor Rowan and his assistant without much trouble,” Professor Juniper began to explain before her device began to ring for another call, “Sorry, I have to go! Good luck to you!” “Well, Ms. Liberati. We shall finish some, now final, surveys of the town to make sure things have truly returned to normal. We don’t want to get in the way of your own tasks, so we shall be on our way now,” Professor Rowan said before starting to walk away to an unknown destination. “Ah! It was so nice seeing you again, Quinn! Make sure you keep in touch! You already know this, but don’t forget about the Oreburgh Museum if you are looking for ancient Pokemon. You remember that girl from when we were younger named Crystal, right? The one that loved rocks! She works there now! She may be happy to see you again and let her know I said hi as well!” Gwen said before giving Quinn a goodbye hug. “Let’s hurry, Ms. Evans!” “Coming, Professor!” Gwen replied as she hurried off to catch up with Professor Rowan while waving to Quinn. Quinn waved back to her friend before deciding to follow Gwen’s advice and head to the nearby Oreburgh Museum to investigate ancient Pokemon.
