They can be sociable and charming, but this is rarely an accurate representation of what's actually going on in their head, and is more likely to be a mechanism for avoiding confrontation or getting their way. They tend to be a bit of a loner, due to facing ridicule in the past about their interests and gender, despite the fact that Kane is also paradoxically afraid of loneliness and enjoys the company of others. As such, they may become clingy and jealous with the few close friends who can appreciate and be patient with them.
Appearance/Physical Description: Kane has a mane of dark, unruly curls, cropped into a short style to make it more manageable. Thick, dark eyebrows frame deep-set green eyes, and a straight bridge leads to a small rounded nose. Kane's lips are full and rosebud-shaped, and more feminine than they would like. The rest of their facial structure is strong, square, and angular, although some of these striking features are hidden behind slightly chubby cheeks.

In general, Kane is a bit of a joker, and is known to have a dry, ironic, and at times mildly offensive sense of humor. They also tend to have a rather black-and-white outlook on most things, and have difficulty with compromise, especially when it comes to upholding their core beliefs. They will defend these beliefs with everything they have, and can be proud and stubborn over it to a fault.
Though they may come off as outwardly pessimistic, they are actually quite a relentless optimist at heart, despite what their dark sense of humor may lead you to believe.
However, they have been known to succumb to dramatic swings of genuine pessimism in times of great stress, though these are rare.
History: Kane grew up in Lavender Town, born as the youngest daughter of a pair of caretakers of the Soul House. Their two older brothers had already moved out and begun their own journeys when Kane was born, and as such, they spent most of their time in and around the cemetery helping their parents. As the years passed, they became accustomed to spirits, hauntings, and other paranormal experiences, and they developed a skill for sensing the presence of the paranormal. As this skill gradually grew with practice, so did Kane's interest in the supernatural.
Kane lived a fairly average life in Lavender Town for the first several years of their life. However, as they grew into adolescence, they came to realize that they were not happy living as a girl, and so they began to experiment with their gender presentation. Being a small and close-knit community, word spread quickly through Lavender Town about this change. Many accepted it, but there were those who did not, and unfortunately Kane had to suffer through a great deal of teasing, name-calling, and even the occasional fist fight in school.
As Kane grew up, their interest into the paranormal quickly blossomed into a full-on obsession, and they devoted all of their free time to studying the mysteries of the supernatural. Upon graduating school, they promptly packed up their bags and made their way to Pallet Town, with the intention of getting their starter Pokemon from Professor Oak and beginning a journey of scientific paranormal discovery.

The rest of their facial structure is strong, square, and angular, although some of these striking features are hidden behind slightly chubby cheeks.
Kane is definitely not overweight, but neither are they stick-thin. They have some amount of pudge and squishiness to their figure, which is undoubtedly due to their fondness of good food. Kane also wears a chest binder, so as to appear flat-chested under their clothing.
Kane likes to wear dark, moderately goth- or punk-style clothing, generally consisting of some form of boots, pants, long sleeved shirt, and either a leather or fur jacket, all of which is in black. They enjoy dressing well in their chosen style, and take time to accessorize with moderate amounts of gender-neutral jewelry, such as rings, belts, long necklaces, and chains hung from belt loops. They also have several piercings - namely, an eyebrow, snakebites, and a number of ear cartilage piercings - and a small tattoo of a stylized cartoon UFO on their wrist. Occasionally, they will also wear dramatic eye makeup, although this is rare because it usually leads to people misgendering them.
Note: Kane's ability to sense and/or communicate with spirits is limited, and is also quite taxing on their mental and even physical well-being. Prolonged contact with a ghost causes headaches, nausea, fatigue, disorientation, and general anxiety, as well as passing along whatever emotions the spirit may be feeling to Kane. Furthermore, any attempts at communication are very rudimentary - ideas are vague, shared via emotions and unclear images rather than precise words and sentences. At this stage of Kane's abilities, they are mostly only good for confirming the presence of paranormal beings. Any further investigation is best carried out using the technology specifically created for the purpose of paranormal research.
