What is Pokemon Hidden Legends?{Answer (Click)}Pokemon Hidden Legends is an open forum Pokemon world based role play. Creating your character and picking your starter Pokemon puts you in the world of Pokemon that is free and open for you to explore. Without game constructs like trees to get in your way or construction workers blocking the path, you are able to travel freely and explore the Pokemon world. You can choose the path of a Pokemon trainer, challenging the gyms for their badges to make it to the league, become a Contest Coordinator and collect the ribbons to challenge the Festival Cup, or even join the Ranger School to become a Pokemon Ranger. Not only is Pokemon Hidden Legends an outlet where you can become more than a trainer for gym badges, there is no limit on the creativity that you can apply to this world. It is a whole world after all, with artists, archeologists, teachers, scientists, parents, thieves even, here you have the opportunity to play the game you always wanted, so to speak, you have an entire world to explore and grow in. Where do I start? I've never been in a forum before?{Answer (Click)}That is absolutely no problem. We can understand that coming to an entire forum without having previous experience in navigating forums can be a bit intimidating and confusing. The moderators of Hidden Legends are always more than happy to explain anything that we can to you, from how to make a post, where to make certain posts, how to add graphics to your posts, ect. Please don't waste any time in asking questions if you have them about how to work in a forum setting, and in the mean time, we'll give you a few quick links to follow: This is our rules thread for all of our rules and guidelines. Here you'll find information on how to capture Pokemon, leveling and training your own Pokemon, character guidelines, how to travel from place to place, how to encounter NPC trainers, and much more that we have covered in trying to make this a cohesive and all inclusive world. This is our thread for HP and Exp earned from defeating wild Pokemon. Because it is difficult to calculate the individual HP for each individual Pokemon with different stats and natures, all Pokemon will have the same HP depending on their level, and that information can be found in this thread. Likewise you will find the amounts of exp that can be earned for defeating wild Pokemon at certain levels so you can work on training your Pokemon. This is our thread outlining the damages and effects for each attack that a Pokemon can learn. Because of the system for HP that Hidden Legends has been established with, attacks can and will differ from their damages done in the games. Some attacks are the base attack damage that can be done in the games, some are a little stronger, some are a little bit weaker. Please reference this list with all attacks that your Pokemon will be learning to know how much damage an attack will be able to do. Likewise in this thread all of the attacks are listed with their contest appeals and effects. This is our thread for all of the items that can be found in the forum. Here you can find each and every item that we have available and how to obtain them, or where to obtain them. Not every item that is in the games is available in the forum for various reasons, but we have tried to make the list as inclusive and complete as possible, even with some items that don't exist in the games to help the systems the forum functions on. This is our thread outlining and explaining how stats work, status ailments, weather effects, and abilities. You can reference this thread when you need to know how a certain ability will work in the forum, what different kinds of weather effects will do, what status ailments will do to a Pokemon when inflicted, and how stats like defense, attack, special defense, ect are taken into account. There is even a sample battle that can be found in this thread as an example on basic battling constructs for the forum. This is all of our information about Gym Battles. You can use this thread to let a moderator know when you are challenging a gym leader, reference for rules and guidelines, and know what exp you will be awarded for the gym trainers. This is all of our information about Contests. Here you can find how our contest system works since we have had to adapt it differently from the games, how to make poffins and what they do, and what kind of challenges you will face as a contest coordinator. And this is all of our information about being a Pokemon Ranger. Here you can find how to join the Ranger School, how a Styler will work in the forum, request missions from the mission board, and what it will take to become a top ranking Ranger. This is our main thread for any questions you might have, or comments you would like to make. You may utilize this thread at any time and a moderator will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible. pokemonhiddenlegends.boards.net/thread/16/absences And this is our thread where you can let us and your role playing partners know that you will be gone for an extended amount of time. Whether vacation, work, school, or you just need to take a hiatus, just let us know here. What do I need to do to get started?{Answer (Click)}First we do ask that you take a moment to look at our rules and otherwise to make sure you don't have any preliminary questions, but the first thing that you will do is post your character profile. All character profiles can be found here, as well as our basic profile skeleton for you to use for reference. We ask that at minimum the character profile skeleton provided is filled out for your character, but any extra and added information is optional, but entirely welcome, so don't hesitate to have fun making your character profile. How do I join a role play? Where are the role plays?{Answer (Click)}The entire forum, all of the region subforums that you see for Kanto and Johto, ect, are the role playing threads. The role play of Pokemon Hidden Legends is one giant role play, one continuous story with no beginning and no end. In hind sight, this is an entire world, existing as such with characters moving through it constantly, so there is no single role play to join. You can role play by yourself to train your Pokemon, or you can role play with just one other character to go on a journey, or you can join a group of trainers to move through a region, the options are limitless. If you are wanting to look for a role play partner, you can utilize this thread. Here other members will post about where their character is and how the two of you could meet up in the role play.

I posted my character profile, where do I go from there?{Answer (Click)}After you've posted your character profile, your very first role play post will be in the laboratory of your choice to meet with a professor in order to request your starter Pokemon. This is done in character and in third person point of view, this is your character beginning their journey. One of the moderators will respond to you as the respective professor to give you your character's starter Pokemon. Does my character have to be a new trainer? Do they have to be 10 years old?{Answer (Click)}Your character does have to be a minimum of ten years of age, unless they are traveling with a parent or guardian of some sort, since that is the required age in order to receive a Pokemon. Otherwise, your character can be as old or as young as you would like. Your character does not have to be a new trainer, or new to Pokemon, but as is in the rules, every character does start with one standard Lv. 5 starter Pokemon. That is not to say that your trainer can't be a seasoned trainer, having challenged a league here and there, or have traveled excessively, but any Pokemon they did have would have had to be released prior, left with family or a professor, the story is up to you, but we ask that everyone start on the same level so as to be fair and equal about coming into this world. Can I start with Pokemon other than a starter Pokemon? Can my character have the Pokemon before visiting the Professor?{Answer (Click)}Yes, but only Pokemon that you have claimed from an event. You cannot just give your character a Pokemon. We have regular events such as our Horoscope event that is updated regularly with each new sign and is open to all members, and other events that can be found in pokemonhiddenlegends.boards.net/board/15/events our events thread. All you have to do is post in the allotted thread stating which Pokemon you would like to claim within the events requirements, and the Pokemon is yours to do with as you will. You can then make them a part of your character's history if you would like, and create the backstory you would like for them. Do I have to take a starter Pokemon when my character starts their journey?{Answer (Click)}Yes, you do have to receive the starter Pokemon from its respective Professor in order to begin your character's journey. Visiting the Professor, receiving your Pokedex, and obtaining a starter is how you are registered into the Pokemon League as a trainer, so it is necessary. Afterwards though, it is up to you what you would like to do with the starter. You do not have to keep it, you can release it, trade it, keep it in your PC system, you don't have to train it, so you have the option to make that choice. Do I have to post in a lab first, or can I post my character traveling to the lab?{Answer (Click)}We ask that everyone's first role play post is in a professor's laboratory upon beginning. This allows us to know where certain characters are, and it can be dangerous to travel the Pokemon world without a Pokemon to use in battle. Can my character be part of Team Rocket?{Answer (Click)}There are many evil organizations that exist in the Pokemon world; Rocket, Neo Rocket, Aqua, Magma, Plasma, Galactic, Flare, and Skull. Yes, if you would like, your character can be a part of one of the organizations, or become part of one of the organizations within their story, but be mindful that there is a cannon history for these teams. To say that your character is one of the top admins of this organization just isn't realistic when there's an established hierarchy for these teams already, so your character would have to be just an operative of the organization. Now, we do have an option for you to create your own enemy organization if you would like, where your character could establish a higher rank, and those rules and regulations can be found in this thread. If you have any further questions about the enemy teams, please reference our Cannon Enemy Team Information thread, and ask a moderator for help with your character. Can my character be a Gijinka?{Answer (Click)}For those who might not know the term, a Gijinka is a half human, half Pokemon hybrid. We welcome creativity here and are open to any character idea, however we have a realistic standard about what can happen in this world. You must have a reason as to why your character is a Gijinka, not simply that they were born like that, or that they were magically fused with a Pokemon. The more indepth of a story you create, the more reason that you give for your character being or becoming a Gijinka, the more likely it will be that we approve the character. Any abilities that your character will be able to have as a Gijinka will need to be outlined in detail, not just for us, but for any potential role play partner. We will expect you to be reasonable and fair about what your character is capable of. Can I play a Pokemon?{Answer (Click)}Unfortunately, no. The focus of this role play is the trainers and their journies and what kind of stories can be made. This is not to say that you can't have fun with the Pokemon that your character catches, as they do have personality and should be treated as characters on their own, but you cannot be a single Pokemon looking for a trainer in this world. Can my character be/become a gym leader?{Answer (Click)}For right now, no. The only open positions that we have for Original Characters to take is League Champions for each region, and Contest Champions for each region. You cannot create a character that is already in one of those positions though, they do have to be earned through the role play. Does my character have to be a trainer?{Answer (Click)}Of course not, your character does not have to be a trainer. They can be a trainer, coordinator, or Pokemon ranger, or all three. You do need to choose at least one of these paths though in order to follow our system on obedience with Pokemon. If my character is from the Sinnoh Region, does that mean that I have to start in the Sinnoh Region?{Answer (Click)}No, you do not have to start in the Sinnoh Region. No matter where your character is from, where they live currently, you are free to choose which laboratory and which region you would like to start in. Likewise, just because your starter Pokemon might be from Hoenn, doesn't mean that you have to stay in Hoenn. You are free to travel inter regionally without restriction, unless by Surf or Fly. The only restriction is that you can only obtain HMs in the region that your starter Pokemon is from.

Do I need to keep my Pokemon in my posts? What else do I need to keep in my posts?{Answer (Click)}Yes, we do ask that you keep your Pokemon Party's information in your posts at all times. This does include, at minimum, their species name, their Level, gender, HP, ability, attacks, attack damages and effects, and their exp count. We also ask that you keep your character's inventory in their posts, and separate post counters for traveling, NPC trainers, wild Pokemon encounters, and any items you may be posting for. Does my Pokemon have to evolve when it reaches the right level?{Answer (Click)}No, your Pokemon does not have to evolve when it reaches the right level. You don't have to evolve your Pokemon at all if that's what you would prefer. As long as the required level has been met, you can evolve your Pokemon whenever you see fit, whenever it might work for your story. Do I have to battle an event Pokemon to capture it?{Answer (Click)}No, you do not have to battle an event Pokemon in order to capture it. With event Pokemon, you have the freedom to chose how to introduce it and how to add it to your party. If you would like to battle it, you can, it can be given as a gift, you can find it and befriend it, the choice is up to you. You don't have to roll for it's capture either, as event Pokemon are an automatic capture. Do I have to encounter wild Pokemon?{Answer (Click)}No, you do not have to encounter wild Pokemon if you do not want to. Encountering and battling wild Pokemon is entirely optional, especially for the purpose of not disrupting a story if you might not have time to fit in a wild Pokemon battle. Can you save up posts to travel?{Answer (Click)}No, you cannot save up posts for traveling. It takes a minimum of three posts in a thread in order to move to the next one, unless you have the HM Fly and a Pokemon that can use it. Can you save up posts for items?{Answer (Click)}No, you cannot save up posts for items and keep a bank of posts to use when you would like. Your posts only count when you are actually posting for an item and are keeping track of that count in your posts. Do OOC posts count towards Pokemon Exp and item counts?{Answer (Click)}No, the only posts that count for exp, items, NPC trainers, wild Pokemon, or anything of the sort is actual role play posts with content. Can you save up wild Pokemon encounter posts, or NPC trainer posts?{Answer (Click)}Yes, you can save up these posts to use when and where you would like. How do I travel to another region?{Answer (Click)}Pallet Town, Newbark Town, Littleroot Town, and Twinleaf Town and Vaniville Town are all connected by a railing system, so you can take a train from the beginning town of each region through Kanto to Kalos. Nuvema Town and Aspertia City are connected by a boating route from each beginning town as well. Celedon City, Goldenrod City, Lilycove City, Hearthome City, and North Lumiose City are all connected by a railing system as well to take a train, and Castellia City is available by boat. The only other way to travel inter regionally is through the HM Fly. Can I use Fly on a Zubat like in the games?

Are legendary Pokemon allowed?{Answer (Click)}Yes, but only once they have been obtained through specified events. Are shiny Pokemon allowed? Can I find shiny Pokemon in the wild? Can I breed shiny Pokemon?{Answer (Click)}Yes, we do have shiny Pokemon in the role play, however they cannot be found in the wild. We have frequent events, some of which do offer the option for a shiny option for a Pokemon claim, so there is no shortage of opportunities to claim shiny Pokemon. Likewise, shiny Pokemon can be bred, but under certain rules and guidelines which can be found here in our breeding center. How do Mega Evolutions work?{Answer (Click)}Mega evolution is a bit more simple here in the role play, in order to make it a bit more realistic and not so much like a construct from the games. In order to Mega Evolve a Pokemon, only the corresponding Mega Stone is needed. You do not need to separately obtain a Mega Ring, but you may do so for story purposes if you would like. Once your Pokemon is holding the Mega Stone, it will be mega evolved, and it can stay mega evolved as long as it is holding the stone. The stone is treated like a hold item, and therefore will continue to have your Pokemon in that mega evolved state, rather than it switching back and forth only for the sake of battle. Likewise, when a Pokemon is mega evolved, their defense and special defense will go up two stages and there is no limit on how many Mega evolved Pokemon you can have in your party at a time. Can I add accessories to my Pokemon, or give them markings/scars? Does that make them shiny?{Answer (Click)}Within reason, it would not necessitate the Pokemon to be shiny in order for their sprite to have scars or markings or accessories. Does my shiny Pokemon have to be the generic shiny color?{Answer (Click)}No, it does not, we do allow the customization of shiny Pokemon through sprite editing, so you do have that creative freedom to color your Pokemon however you would like. Our co-Moderator WhitePrinceOfWonderland does sprite customizations. How do I decide my Pokemon's ability?{Answer (Click)}You can pick your Pokemon's ability out of the abilities that it can know through the most recent games in it's most updated information. Do natures effect the Pokemon? Do I need a nature/need to roll for a nature?{Answer (Click)}No, the natures do not effect the stats of a Pokemon in this role play for sake of it being far too difficult to do every single individual calculation for stat bonuses and reductions. But you do not need to roll for a nature or have a nature for your Pokemon if you would like, though it may give you an idea on a personality for your Pokemon. How do I encounter wild Pokémon?{Answer (Click)}In the very first post for any location there will be a list of Pokémon that can be found in that area, the levels that they will appear at, and a mention on how many posts are required in that area before encountering a wild Pokémon. You must post the required amount of times in that area, in some areas it is seven posts, in most it is five posts, and then once you have posted the appropriate number of times, you will roll the corresponding dice. You will roll a 4 sided dice in order to determine the level at which the Pokémon will appear, and then that first post will tell you what kind of numbers you need to generate to determine what Pokémon will appear.

Do I have to finish the whole gym battle, even if I might not win?{Answer (Click)}Yes, we do require that the battle be finished in its entirety no matter the outcome. What happens if I lose a gym battle?{Answer (Click)}There is no penalty for losing a gym battle, as there is necessarily no currency in this role play to keep track of like in the games. You will just need to return to the gym and attempt to challenge the leader once you feel you are ready again. Can you rematch gym leaders?{Answer (Click)}There is presently a system in the works for gym leader rematches, and it will be released soon. Does switching out take priority?{Answer (Click)}Yes, your Pokemon will be switched out at the beginning of the turn you would like to return it. If I switch out a Pokemon in battle, does my Pokemon get to attack first before the opponent?{Answer (Click)}Only if speed dictates. If your Pokemon being sent into battle is faster than the opponent, then it will attack first. Does healing/using potions take priority? Does it take a turn in battle?{Answer (Click)}Yes and yes. Using a healing item does take priority in the turn of a battle, however it does count as your move for that turn.
