Just south of the Tapu Village is the remnants of the Thrifty Megamart, the original store that was going to be placed and the first of its kind in the Alola region. The structure itself still holds fairly strong, and the store looks rather repairable, but after what happened to the Tapu Village, no one has taken the time to do it. The store was also destroyed and abanndoned when the Tapu Village was, and many of the goods that were in the store still remain, though they're not old and rotted. The shopping carts are still there, the shelves still in place and stocked, but the reason why so much still remains in the store and hasn't been looted is because of the threat of the store being haunted and over run with spirits.
{Thrifty Megamart Gym (Click)}Acerola is the Trial Captain of Thrifty Megamart's abandoned site on Ula'ula Island. She is also a Ghost-type Trainer. She was once a part of the Elite Four, like Hala, but stepped down in fear of leaving the Thrifty Megamart and it's spirits unprotected. Because of this, it forced Nanu to take the position after he had originally refused. She is known to be very friendly, despite some regarding her as a little... off. She is an orphan and lives at the Aether House just out side the Tapu Village. She often plays with the children and Pokemon that live there. She is the soul survivor of a royal family that once ruled over Alola, and is said to have riches. However despite this, she still lives at the Aether House. Though it's rumored that this is why the Thrifty Megamart is still standing and how she was able to fix it up for her Gym. Acerola has been seen to be great with Ghost types and has the ability to speak with all Ghost types, not just ones that can communicate psychically. She also claims to be able to speak with actual spirits, and often holds respectful seances from within the Megamart. She usually keeps to herself and stays within the Aether House, and Megamart, but has been known to travel to visit Sophocles at his Observatory.
Like most of the other leaders, Acerola didn't want anything to be changed in the Thrifty Megamart, due to the many spirits that lived there and called it home. However, after a few full gym battles, she realized holding the battle in the abandoned building wasn't going to work anymore. Instead of changing the Thrifty Megamart, she decided that they could change the surrounding area. Just like before the challenger must make their way through the massive haunted mart. The Trial Pokemon have been known to mess with and haunt the trainers before challenging them as they looked through the abandoned store that still had products still on the shelf. The ghosts ensure there are no thieves. Doors often appear and disappear that the Ghost types use to trap and scare the trainers, however the real Gym can be found by going out into the back stock of the store where there a stairway can be found built in. Once going down it, there could be a large battle field that was dug out underneath the mart. The room is dimly lit, keeping the same look and aesthetic of the mart, only not as dusty. The battle field is entirely flat, allowing Acerola and the challenger to stand on the field with the Pokémon and making it versatile.
