In the northern central part of Ula'ula Island, the island is almost entirely split down the middle by a mountain range. In the south, Mount Lanakila holds its place as the tallest point in the Alola Region, and in the North, Mount Hokulani rests as a fantastic place for anyone traveling through the region. The mountain is tall and steep, but has a street and walkway going up one side of the mountain in order to access the Hokulani Observatory, where the other side is strictly dirt path and ledges that only the bravest trainers will dare scale in order to find some very specific Pokemon to the region. Mount Hokulani holds a very special environment for a specific few Pokemon because of its almost constant clear skies being at the altitude that it is, so a view of the sky and the stars is always present. The Hokulani Observatory takes its place at this summit just for that reason, as it's provided the perfect environment for studying the vast expanses of space.
{Hokulani Observatory Gym (Click)}Sophocles is the Trial Captain of Ula'ula Island's Hokulani Observatory. He specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. Sophocles is good with mechanics, having invented various machines, and shares a close bond with his cousin, Molayne. However, he is also quite shy. While Captains, and Gym Leaders, are typically picked by their respective Island Kahuna, Sophocles was picked by his cousin to succeed him as he became a part of the Elite Four. While he is shy and keeps to himself, he practically runs the observatory and constantly is inventing more and more machines to go inside of the observatory not only to aid in seeing the stars above but to aid in Pokemon training. Creating things to help Discharge an electric type Pokemon safely, and even creating cloth that can go intangible for ghost types, thanks to the help of Acerola having wanted to make clothes for her ghosts. Sophocles will often give challengers tours of his observatory and allow them to test out gadgets and the very powerful telescope. He often asks for their help with tests with his inventions, being testing them out or seeing if they could help fix it. Being one of the more shy Gym Leaders, he often doesn't leave his Observatory.
Sophocles's gym sits at the top of Mount Hokulani in the Observatory. Many tourists make the trek all the way up the mountain to view the beautiful starry skies at night, so many star gazers can be found her at night. Not only that, the totem Pokemon can be found and battled along the way up the mountain and even within the observatory due to this being their home, Sophocles allows them to come and go as they please. Once inside of the Observatory, the challenger will be met with a rather high tech building that almost looks like a laboratory. It's filled with machinery, and many things to look at. However Sophocles, much unlike the others, has had an extra large room built onto the side of the Observatory for the battle field. The room opens up into a large metal room much like the rest of the building, with cords and electrical wires and panels running through it, revealing that this room is just as high tech as the rest of the building. At it's center is a lifted field, on each side of the field has lifted platforms for him and the challenger to stand on and over look the battle at hand. The field appears to be flat and versatile, being made of metal. However Sophocles made this field himself, so it definitely will have a few tricks. The metal itself seems to be very heard to melt or ruin. As the battle goes on, its clear that it won't be an easy battle. The field is designed to cause a bit of mayhem. The field has plates in the ground to eject the Pokemon in the air at random, his own included. The metal is made to take blows and actually makes the landing easy. The field is also known to completely tilt or start spinning, with the trainers and Sophocles included. It all was made to make the battle difficult and fun, and at random, so he isn't in control of what happens. Being as shy as he is, Sophocles refuses to allow an audience to watch, only travel partners with the actual challenger.
