Perhaps one of the single most mysterious, beautiful, unique, and all around interesting locations in the Pokemon world, the Glimwood Tangle is renowned by many; scientists, botanists, trainers alike, but all for different reasons. Despite the decades of study, the years of traveling and documenting, and many reports that have been done on the Glimwood Tangle, no one is really quire sure how it came to be and why it is as unique environment as it is. Also known to many as the Luminous Maze Forest, speculations have been made that over the many years that the forest has existed, the faries and other mysterious Pokemon that began to call the forest home infused the environment with their natural, mystical powers and abilities. The trees grew impossibly tall, shrouding the ground beneath from the slightest glimpse of sunlight, and the mushrooms and fungus grew too, illuminating with their own mystical properties, the only light sources in the entire forest. No one is quite sure why the Pokemon that can be found there thrive in such an environment, as though they had made it this way specifically for a reason. The tangle is difficult, almost impossible to navigate, as there have never been any maps created that can effectively lead someone through, and no one knows how big or how far the tangle really is. The environment seems to change, shift, though no one is sure how often or if it really does at all, but those who do manage to make it through are relieved to see the buildings and paths marked by Ballonlea.

With only three more Pokemon Centers to go for the Galar Region before they needed to make their trek east all the way towards Hoenn, Emiri and her Pokemon had left Stow-On-Side to head towards a town called Ballonlea. On the map that she had, it only really showed that Ballonlea was in the middle of the forest that sprawled out to the north, which wasn’t out of the question. She had been to quite a few locations that were more remote, or even tucked away in the trunks of trees like Arborville, but Emiri and her Pokemon flew, and flew, and circled, and rounded back, and looked all they could… Spanning out over the forest that encompassed this portion of the region, there was not a single break in the tree line that Emiri or any of her Pokemon could find in order to make their way down towards Ballonlea… The longer Emiri and her Pokemon flew around the area, skirting over the tree tops and trying to find a break in the leaves and branches, Emiri couldn’t help but get a strange feeling from the forest, like it was alive in a way, like it had its own aura…
It took a lot of convincing, and a lot of consideration on her part, but Emiri finally came to a conclusion for herself on how to make it through the trees and into the town of Ballonlea. She stood at the edge of the forest on the barely there path that lead up that way from Stow-On-Side, looking up at the impossibly tall trees that were more like a wall than anything else. Never had Emiri seen trees like this before, glancing through the trunks and not even being able to see one or two trunks in with how dark the forest seemed, but she could swear she saw the faintest glow of color drifting through the darkness… Emiri held the baby in her arms, and his senses were almost overwhelmed in standing at the edge of the trees, and she knew that he was feeling the same things from the forest that she was. There was something about the forest, maybe something about what lived in the forest, that was giving off such strong feelings, and Emiri could almost swear that if she were humble and nice to the forest in passing through, that she would be able to make it through and back with no trouble. Beside her though, on the quiet path with little more than the wind rustling through the trees to make a sound, Aslan stood tall as he too glanced into the tree line. The lion was an entity that Emiri knew was very well intune with such concepts, the more supernatural or even psychological things. Being a Pokemon of light as he had explained to her, he too could feel that the forest was alive in a way and felt that Emiri was right in being able to make safe passage so long as they were peaceful in their travel.
Keeping the baby close on her hip, Aslan leaned down on his front legs to bear his shoulder to Emiri. She helped herself up on his back, letting the baby down from her arms so he could situate on Aslan’s shoulders, and the lion stood on his broad legs to face the forest line again. Trusting each other on a level that Emiri knew could only be met through Aslan’s connection to light and her own sense of auras, Emiri motioned Aslan forward and they began their trek into the forest, in hopes of being able to make it through unscathed.

The Glimwood Tangle was every bit as beautiful as she imagined. The seemingly endless sea of trees blocked out the sunlight, leaving the task of illuminating the forest to the large, glowing fungi that grew everywhere. Her phone had long since been abandoned in her bag, having been reduced to a glorified clock as they would have little to no hope of using it to find a reliable map. Elfana was left to navigate the area on her own, which didn't bother her any. Getting lost would mean she would get to spend more time studying the area. By the time she had decided to settle down for the night, Pantalaimon had fallen asleep in her arms. She decided to camp in an area whose only light source was a large, pink mushroom. Pantalaimon was arranged on top of her bag and covered in her coat after she had retrieved her notebook and a pen. That single pink mushroom had just become her entertainment for the night. She spent hours sketching it, studying it, and taking both pictures and samples from it. Her goal was less to learn the source of the glowing fungi and more to find out if they were something she could reproduce in her lab back home. Her Steelix would love it if his tunnels were illuminated by colorful mushrooms. They would be an excellent replacement for the lights she currently had set up in the tunnel ceilings. The dark was one of the many things that frightening the timid Steelix. Nighttime came and went. Elfana didn't notice how late in the morning it was until her team had woken up. She had stayed up all night fixated on the pink mushroom with only Haruka to keep her company. That was yet another thing they had in common. He too was opposed to sleeping. She wanted to stay and keep studying the mushroom but they had an event to complete. After looking over the mushroom one final time, they continued on to Ballonlea.

Elfana Aroway

For the sake of making sure she had a better understanding of the fungi, Elfana ended up spending a second night in the forest. She wanted to be completely sure she could keep anything she grew happy and healthy. Not to mention she wanted to take samples from a blue mushroom- just in case they happened to be from a different species of fungi. She would never admit to searching out a large blue mushroom specifically to spend the night by though. It totally wasn't because blue was her favorite color or anything like that. To her surprise, she and Haruka ended up having company during the night, though the Pokemon that decided to appear were not local. Elfana's Unown had taken an interest in the forest. While she worked with the blue mushroom she would occasionally see one of them pop up nearby before vanishing again. They were curious about the area. That's how she decided to explain the odd behavior anyway. The T shaped Unown would always be lurking close to her while the P shaped Unown would appear whenever it decided one of the other Unown was wandering too far from the group. A small V would bounce off one of the other nearby mushrooms, causing it to glow brightly. She could have sworn she heard the Unown giggle before it vanished again. Honestly, she was glad to see them. She half expected them to leave entirely when she had let them out of their Pokeballs. This time she did end up falling asleep during the night. The next morning she woke up curled up in the grass. The Unown had disappeared again but she knew they weren't far. They would appear whenever they felt like it.

Church was glad to be rid of the sand and grit. He let the gloom and darkness of the woods envelop him, the fairy lights playing over his face and making him look almost fairy-like himself in the unnatural light. He walked briskly but more out of anticipation than anything. He actually found the gloomy woods around him rather relaxing. Not too dark yet not too bright. It reminded him of Spikemuth at night with the neon signs lighting up the dark. The feeling caused a smile to well up inside of him, however he kept up his pace and pushed onward to Ballonlea.

Grim wandered through the hauntingly beautiful forest with his eyes on the ground around him. With this many glowing shrooms he was careful not to dump into any of them, less they give off any troublesome spores. Likewise, Raika and Luckett wove through with equal caution. Once the Swirlix fled, Grim crept off the path and explored a little further into the woods. He was still weary of the glowing mushrooms, but he managed to find a path through the various shrooms without much trouble. As the forest enveloped him and his two pokemon, Grim felt an odd feeling come over him. It was as if he were being watched. It took him only a few moments to figure out where the feeling came from, an oranguru sat on a nearby tree trunk watching him.

Grim quickly healed Tokumei before standing in front of the large wild pokemon. If it wanted a challenge it would get one.

After the battle, Grim healed up Tokumei and left her out as they made their way back to the path. Mentally he was trying to figure out the best way to get his team up to snuff. He found he was relying on Tokumei a little too much, yet he wasn't sure if it was something he had to fix, either. Tokumei on the other hand had seemed to calm down quite a bit from the angsty charmander he had won at the fair. She led the way now, her tail raised high so as not to knock over mushrooms as she stomped onto the path. Although there wasn't exactly love in her gaze as she turned to look at him, there wasn't the old hatred there either. Was she finally beginning to trust him?

As the four made their way down the path an odd sight awaited them. In a small clearing beside the path stood a small group of trainers surrounding two figures battling. The sight was comfortingly familiar and caused Grim to smile as he slowly made his way over. Sure enough, he recognized some of the trainers from the last battle party he had taken part in. They had really picked an odd spot this time.

Grim watched as the battle came to an end and immediately stepped forward to challenge the winner. It was time for some real battle experience before their next gym!

The crowd went wild as Grim secured his first win, making Grim rather self-conscious and nervous. He could feel Luckett gently leaning against his leg reassuringly and the gesture warmed Grim and made him feel a little better about the situation. He healed up Tokumei and didn't have to wait long until his next challenger stepped up. This time it was an older woman with steady eyes and a kind of grace that told Grim she was likely very strong and confident. Then again, so was he.

As the crowd revved up, Grim allowed himself a small smirk. They were doing great so far, though he only had one or two more battles left in him. Tokumei stood beside him and let out a hiss as another trainer stepped forward. The girl looked at Tokumei and seemed nervous, though Grim couldn't really see why. As he glanced down at Tokumei he noticed a dim glow shrouding her. Almost at once he broke into a smile, that was one of the signs that she was close to evolving! These battles were beginning to pay off, and soon he would have a strong Charizard by his side! For now though, he forced himself to focus on the upcoming battle and healed up Tokumei before sending her foreward.

They ended the battle as the winners once again, this time by a landslide. Grim now understood the girl's unease, her pokemon had all been grass type and his main battler was a Charmeleon. They hadn't stood a chance. Grim smiled as Tokumei blasted a flurry of flames into the air in her excitement at fighting. To him, she never seemed happy unless she was fighting. It was almost sad, but he tried not to think to much into it.

As the cheers died down, Tokumei gave another burst of flame and began to glow a deep purple. Almost at once all eyes were on her as her form shifted and grew. Before he could fully comprehend what was happening, a very unique looking Charizard stood in front of him. She was a Charizard, right? As Tokumei turned towards him, Grim felt a shiver run down his spine. Her appearance was more... wild compared to a normal Charizard. It was sharper and more deadly-looking. However it was her eyes that drew his attention. She had four. Another smaller pair of what seemed like eyes had appeared on her cheeks and the sight unnerved him more than he was willing to admit.

Tokumei raised her head and gave a mighty roar and in the blink of an eye the crowd seemed to disperse into the forest, leaving Grim alone with her.
"I'm proud of you, Tokumei." Grim ventured, walking up to her despite his unease and putting a hand on her warm side. After all, no matter how she looked now she was still the little Charmander he had won at the fair, right? For a moment neither Grim nor Tokumei moved or made a sound. Then, Tokumei suddenly snarled and snapped at his arm, which he hastily pulled away just in time.
"Tokumei!" At his hurt tone she seemed to falter for a moment before merely eyeing him.

After all this time he still didn't know where he stood with her. Now that she was evolved it seemed he stood on shaky ground, however he wasn't one to back down. Not after all that he had been through looking after his parent's ferocious beasts. He narrowed his eyes and stubbornly placed his hand back on her side, this time ignoring her growl. For a long breath neither reacted, until Tokumei seemed almost to sigh before gently shaking his hand off of her with a huff. She was still Tokumei after all!

After healing up Tokumei, Grim headed back up the path and smiled to himself as he heard Tokumei's foot-falls behind him. For a few moments back there he had worried she might have grown tired of him and gone rogue, but this seemed not to be the case. This time at least. The very people he passed along the forest path gave them a wide birth, and although at first he was concerned Tokumei might take it to heart, he soon realized she enjoyed it. Whether that was a good or bad thing... he didn't know.

Luckett and Raika remained at ease by his side, seemingly unbothered by Tokumei's new apperance. To them, she was still her angsty sefl, just bigger. Grim watched them all over his shoulder as they walked. He could still imagine the Charmander, Eevee, and Yamper they had been at one point. It surprised him how far they had come. He felt like he had blinked and suddenly they were all grown up. Warmed by their company, Grim continued onward to Ballonlea.

Grim entered the odd forest and gazed around as he walked, still mesmerized by the glowing mushrooms even though he had been here once before. It hadn't been that long ago, but it felt like forever now since he set foot in here. This time, however, he was here for more than just training. The gym called to him, but he needed to warm up a little first.

It didn't take him long before he came across a small Sinistea floating about the path, the perfect opportunity for some last minute training!

Grim continued on down the eerie path in near-darkness, the only sound their footsteps and the occasional unknown rustle in the underbrush. Colorful glowing light lit up the three as they ventured further into the woods, following Grim's memory of the path more than anything at this point. It wasn't long before the rustling got more pronounced and closer, and even less before a Shiinotic leaped from the underbrush and faced them. It seemed determined to fight, likely mad at their presence. So be it.

Grim eyed the Shiinotic as it reluctantly fled back into the underbrush after loosing the clash it had caused. For a moment he wondered if he was in the wrong for forcing himself into it's territory, but there simply wasn't another way he could see to get to his destination. With a sigh he continued on down the path until they came upon an Indeedee sitting upon a mushroom along the path, it's wide eyes turning to them as they approached. Knowing they still could use more practice, Grim sent Luckett forward. One last battle before they headed to the gym.

The battle was fairly quick and as they moved on Grim smiled, hopefully they were finally ready to take on the fairy gym. That, or it would be another rough week of training. Either way, only time would tell as the trio headed for Ballonlea.
