 Far out in the southern seas of Johto, where the weather is warm and gentle, but not tropical, a sky line can be found floating above the water, a city on the waves. Alto Mare is a sprawling metropolis that has thrived for decades out on the waves of the open ocean, a city of canals and boats, where streets don't exist, and water flows in their place. Alto Mare is characterized by old fashioned style buildings, most with stories to tell of the years of people and Pokemon that move through the soothing city of water, where stone paths and walkways and bridges are the only navigation through the city unless you travel by ferry or gondola, or water Pokemon for that matter. With plentiful sun and calm weather, the city is a beautiful place to spend time out in the city's many common squares, out in the parks where the trees and grass are the perfect shade of green, or spending a day in the center of the city in the Alto Mare museum where the history of the proud city is displayed for all to see.  {Achilles Halle || Beauty Contest Leader (Click)} Achilles is a scholar. He studies anything that catches his fancy, and loves to explore the depths of the caves found near shorelines. He has a bit of an ego, but tries to not let that get in the way of his contests. However, he sometimes places his own knowledge at a higher value than anything, which gets him a bit of scoffing from his colleagues. While he may be best suited for Smart type contests, Achilles took up the Beauty rankings for a couple of reasons. For one, he takes quite a bit of pride in his own appearance, and carries that over to his Pokemon as well. He is careful, almost to a fault, to make sure his team is in the best possible condition. Another reason is due to a childhood dare that he's never been able to ignore. Some obscure person (who has probably well-forgotten the bet by now) challenged Achilles, saying that he'd never be able to pull off a decent contest. As a response, Achilles abandoned training for battles altogether, focusing his team solely on Contest skill. Pokemon-  Lumineon Silver Wind- ♥ | User gets pumped up. Julian Malcolm
Julian nodded to 'Lucky', the Spinda that nearly killed Liz on impact. He wasn't too sure how to react to the rather confused-looking bear. So, he settled on not reacting at all. He ran his hand over Pidgeot's beak once more before sending all of his Pokemon other than Pidgeot and Noctowl back into their Pokeballs. It was finally time for this long journey, and to take the risks associated with it. He had complete faith in Pidgeot. "Let's get going, while we still have plenty of daylight."
Pidgeot was slowed down by the combined weight of both Julian and Liz, but he still flew with what seemed effortlessness. The moment they were flying over the open Ocean, Julian couldn't help but look around. It was magical. The water shimmered in the sunlight as the waves rolled beneath them. He glanced over his shoulder, wanting to see the expression on her face. He wasn't disappointed. Through the artificial nerves she would most likely be experiencing, beneath the surface he could see wonder. Finally, a while later, Julian could see the floating city in the distance. Through Noctowl's psychic powers, who was flying along beside them glad to finally be able to keep up with the much larger bird, Julian opened the communication between them both. "Look there, ahead. It's Alto Mare!" He was so excited for this, the race would begin tomorrow and he suddenly knew that he wanted to be in it.

Elizabeth Morgan Once again Pidgeot took to the sky, and once more Liz screamed out. Though this time it was excitement rather than shock and terror. If it weren't for Liz hanging onto Lucky, she would have been pressed right up to Julian's back while holding her free arm out and enjoying the rush of the wind around them. She laughed and grinned and managed to ignore the sea below. Sure she saw it, but she didn't let the fear of things like Tentacool and other nasty Poison Types get to her. There was just her and her Pokemon and Julian with his. It was a gorgeous kind of freedom up here. Nothing to fear except stupid ideas, that is. She grinned over at Noctowl, sure that her thoughts were already in the bird's head. "So, Noctowl...would that work?" She was hoping Noctowl wouldn't sell her out to the young man sitting in front of her. Her thoughts were rushing and getting hard for her to process, let alone the Noctowl she was trying to talk into pulling some crazy aerial stunts. It was only best that Astro wasn't out here or else he would want to participate the moment he saw some acrobatics. She looked perfectly willing to try it, believing that she could handle the situation however it went down. If Noctowl refused, Liz would be notably disappointed, though not the reason why if he at least kept it a secret from Julian. Probably best they didn't anyway.
Julian brought her attention to Alto Mare in the distance and the young woman's eyes shone with wonder. It was a beautiful city that looked like a marvel of technology while also appearing as a rustic little settlement whose only oddity was being in the middle of the ocean. She shifted Lucky from her front to the side, hugging Julian tight and humming happily. "It's gorgeous. We're so lucky you heard about it!" She was minding her voice in his ear, but she was also realizing that she was wasting breath. It didn't take away from the wonder of their situation. Julian Malcolm
Noctowl let her know that he wouldn't be able to carry either one of them. Sure, he could do flips and aerial acrobatics on his own, but that was a very different story. Before they knew it, their journey was over. They had finally arrived in the floating City of Alto Mare. They touched down right in front of the Pokemon Center. Julian, keen to prepare for this huge event coming soon, rushed inside to collect his Water-Type Pokemon. They were going to stay up all night practicing if they needed to. "You're going to be watching, won't you?" He asked her hesitantly. For all he knew, she would want to go off on her own and enjoy some fun in the warm sunlight. He sat down at the P.C., waiting for it to boot up before he requested his own Quagsire. In a matter of seconds, the Pokeball materialized on the small platform to his right. "There you are." He smiled down at his Pokeball. Grabbing his backpack, he stuffed the Pokeball inside and grabbed a pair of swimming trunks.
After changing in the bathroom, he returned to Liz. Grabbing her by the hand, he would lead her back outside so they were standing on the sidewalk beside one of the large City's Canals. He sent out the smooth Quagsire directly into the water, who splashed around happily. Julian lead the way down the sidewalk with Quagsire following beside him and Liz just behind. "Finally, look!" He pointed and lead the way to a shop. A sign on the wall read 'raft rentals'. A bit of money later, he was bobbing up and down in the water, unsteady on the raft barely wide or long enough to support him. Quagsire put a bit in his mouth, and started slowly pulling the raft along. Julian struggled to keep his balance while staying in an upright position. He knew that the Contestants would have to stay standing on their raft the entire time. Slowly, Quagsire picked up speed and Julian began to grow accustomed to his challenge. They passed countless sets of stairs, brightly colored windows and cobbled streets like something out of time.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz was quite disappointed to learn that she couldn't do anything with Noctowl. She didn't let it show, though as Pidgeot did plenty to keep the young woman entertained even if he was taking the utmost care not to lose anybody. It was still an enjoyable ride and she wouldn't fault anybody for playing safe. Liz would have plenty of time to get injured on her own when she had a bird Pokemon for herself! The redhead hugged tightly to Julian, squishing Lucky between them for that time, as Pidgeot landed and let them off. She looked around, taking in the sights as she followed Julian. His question might have fallen on deaf ears if it weren't for the fact it was mental. She took a long moment to react, however, possibly causing the young man undue stress. "Hm? What? Oh! Oh, yes." She smiled broadly, patting Lucky on top of the head. "Of course we'll watch! We can go shopping any time, right?" The redhead declared, acknowledging that this event Julian wanted to participate in was more important. He only had a limited amount of time to get ready!
Liz couldn't help but grin at the way Julian was so enthusiastic. Like taking a kid to the beach. It made her want to play too, but none of her Pokemon were really the seafaring types! She had to reflect, pondering the existence of a swimsuit to begin with. She definitely should have prepared better. His new Pokeball made her curious, but that was short-lived as Julian dragged her along to a rental store where he got the small raft he would be carried on. "So you stand on that? And--Is that a Quagsire!? Oh my god, you never said you had a Quagsire!" Liz exclaimed, forgetting her curiosity about how the race worked as her eyes shone with excitement. They weren't the prettiest Pokemon around, but she thought Wooper were adorable and its evolved form could be a lot of fun to play with! She gushed over what she knew of the Pokemon, though it was mostly a story about a neighbor's own Quagsire that used to help Pesker keep an eye on a tiny red thing that couldn't sit still. "So he tossed me in the pond! Mr. Kigawa's Quagsire was such a bully!" For all of the hype and huff she put into the statement, it was clear Liz never harbored any hard feelings. Her eyes shimmered still with fond memories and the humor in a Quagsire's idea of justice. She also knew she deserved it after worrying her father and their neighbors. Liz had even mistakenly mentioned Pesker several times, giving Julian enough information to recognize she had once cared about this Muk as a child. With the way she had avoided sharing before, it was equally clear Pesker was not someone she remembered on purpose.
While Julian was out training for the race, Liz sat near the waterfront, watching the shimmering shapes in shallow areas and dipping her toes in after shedding boots and stockings. Lucky seemed to want to swim, but Liz had a firm hold on the Spinda. She was enjoying watching her friend practice. If it weren't for her story the red-haired girl might not look so distracted or unhappy. As long as Julian didn't mistake this somber expression for boredom or disappointment, she could dwell on her thoughts and sort through a few of them. Julian was surprised to see that Liz was over-excited about him having a Quagsire. Apparently, it seemed, she had past history with one throwing her into a pond. That was great and all, but he sort of figured she'd lose interest if his didn't throw her into the canal or something... unless Julian told him to. Keeping that thought in mind in case he wanted to get some revenge for slapping him in the head - what seemed ages ago - outside those Ruins, he kept practicing how not to fall off his raft. He occasionally glanced over at Liz, not sure why it mattered so much to him that she was watching. For some strange reason he wanted to impress her.
A few hours later, he was pretty confident that he could stay on his raft while Quagsire sped through the water. It was the sharp turns that worried him now, but he wasn't sure if Liz wanted to stay up much later. He did notice that the further Quagsire took him out each time, the more people he saw out practicing as well. The competition looked fierce. There were Trainers with dozens of different Pokemon, and he knew this wasn't all of them. He would have a long way to go if he wanted to win this. By the looks of it, some of these Contestants spent their lives on the water. Quagsire had to stop for a break, and Julian sat cross-legged on his raft half-a-dozen feet away from the ledge where Liz sat. "Well, I think I'm getting the hang of this." He communicated telepathically through Noctowl - who was perched on the Pokemon Center's roof.

Elizabeth Morgan The training was long and somewhat dull for Liz in the long run. She was still excited and cheering--and laughing--when Julian got up to speed only to dunk himself in a moment's hesitation or over compensating his balance. The red-haired girl was definitely enjoying this trip even if spectating wasn't usually her speed. Her attention only ever left Julian long enough to make sure Lucky hadn't wandered away. In the time it took Liz to look back, the Spinda had found a way to disappear finally while Julian was declaring his mastery of the race. The spotted bear wandered away from the training as Liz squawked her distress. Lucky wandered off and Liz was left worrying about her Spinda while trying not to leave Julian behind. Noctowl could easily solve the problem, but Lucky was in no immediate danger, nor would it really give Liz any peace once she got her bear Pokemon back. "Lucky? Lucky! Where'd you go!?" She was distracted from her friend now, worrying about Lucky and trying to find the wayward Pokemon. She turned back to Julian with big, green eyes threatening crocodile tears. "Someone took my Lucky!!" She exclaimed with a noisy sniffle.
While Liz tried to drag Julian into finding her Spinda, the green bear in question went on a little adventure! She wandered around Alto Mare as if she knew the place, meeting interesting people and getting different treats and gifts from them for various reasons. She had a Pink Scarf on her neck in mere minutes, being complimented on the way it contrasted with her fur. Apparently Lucky had gotten too far away, because Noctowl couldn't sense the small bear anywhere. This wasn't good, had someone stolen him? Julian thought momentarily about the Team Rocket Operative he'd humiliated and beaten multiple times for beating Arcanine - then a bitty Growlithe - with a steel baton. It seemed unlikely they would ever meet again, but if by some strange circumstance that asshole did show up then Julian had no doubt that he would want revenge. Julian placed a hand on Liz's shoulder, trying to send a calming sense to her. Suddenly, she fell away from him and landed in the canal. Julian blinked in his confusion. It took a few moments for him to realize what had happened. "Why did you do that?!" Julian questioned Quagsire. Apparently the Water-Type thought she needed to cool off, and his idea of the best way to do that was a dunk in the chilly canal.

Elizabeth Morgan Today was a rough day for the red-haired Trainer. Everything had been going so well until now. Suddenly she was frantically trying to find her Spinda and failing at supporting her friend who was after the young woman's attention. He was completely understanding but that didn't change her guilt for making the situation about her. It was the day before the race! Why did Lucky have to go and get lost during what was supposed to be a pleasant trip!? Her eyes were full with unshed tears as she looked to Julian for guidance. While he hadn't said anything about what he thought could have caused Lucky to disappear she did seem to understand he was expecting something to be very wrong just like she was. Noctowl didn't seem to know where to find her bear either, causing more distress to the redhead. Julian was trying to help, so was Quagsire in his own way, but that didn't stop Liz from thinking she was getting picked on. She gave the young man a woeful smile when he reached out to reassure her, only to scream and flail before hitting the water. Liz's fingers would scratch Julian in a vain attempt to grab him if he wasn't careful when Quagsire threw her in. She came gasping out of the water, huffing and yelling incoherently as the cold played havoc on her senses and she was still struggling to figure out what she'd done to deserve a dunk in the canal.
"Q-Quagsire!? What's wrong with you!!" She shouted, overwhelmed by her distress now being compounded with a fistful of anger and frustration. "You jerk! That wasn't funny!" She insisted as she swam to the water's edge and hoisted herself out to start drip drying off. Coughing and shivering, Liz sat on the walkway with her feet hovering just above the water while she tried not to cry--or hit Quagsire for trying to lighten the mood. "Can you find her? I don't want to lose Lucky." Liz pleaded, looking up to Julian with the most pitiful expression she'd shown him yet. It would take some time, but Lucky would find her way back home. Liz might not realize the way her Spinda worked, but Julian might be able to figure out that the bear was better off wandering on her own.
The Spinda in question was busily stumbling her way around Alto Mare, growing a little more wealthy with each passing human. She was stumbling farther now, too, weighed down by a Berry Pot someone had strapped to her back. Mulch found its way in sometime after, and Lucky was enjoying a feast of different Berries from a basket that had been hung around her neck. While her trainer was having Skitties with worry, Lucky was having another day where good things happened just because! Some bad things happened, sure, but Lucky was far too generous and care-free to let accidents get her down. The Pot was sure getting heavy, though...She hoped she could remember where she left Liz and her boyfriend. Quagsire and Noctowl split up, going in opposite directions. The Water-Type jumped every ten feet or so out of the water to see over the canal edges. He caught brief glimpses of a party, a couple taking a midnight stroll, a drunken man struggling to lean against the Poke Mart wall. No Spinda. Noctowl wasn't having any better luck, there was too much excitement and noise for him to distinguish any single thoughts. He stared around, keen eyes struggling to pick out the lime-green color of the Panda's fur.
Meanwhile, little did Julian know, his Persian had let itself out of the Pokeball, and went on a little adventure. He hadn't even seen it, nor had he heard it obviously. By the time Liz could have drawn his attention, Persian would be gone. Easily leaping onto the Pokemon Center's roof, she jumped from rooftop to rooftop until something caught her eye. It was a fish splashing around in the water. She didn't want to jump into the water, so she started by putting it to sleep. Quickly after, two distinct Thunder attacks split the night. Citizens screamed and ran indoors, afraid of a sudden rain storm ruining the festivities for tomorrow. Licking her chops and with no-one else to pay witness, she jumped down and pawed at the water. Elizabeth Morgan To say Liz was difficult was an understatement. She couldn't stop getting worked up over the things that could go wrong. On the bright side Julian was getting to enjoy a lot of time up close to his redheaded companion. She was desperate for distractions from the loss and the young man was doing a good job of providing them. While Lucky's disappearance was distressing, Liz discovered she could cope with a trip around the city. It was ironic considering her Spinda was doing roughly the same thing only without an exchange of currency. The two humans walked along the canal with lights everywhere. It was lucky they could find stores open at all. The race drew enough attention that they had a couple of nights where shops didn't close. The lights along both sides of the canal made it that much easier for them to shop and for Liz to see Julian's hands while he taught her some sign language. When a clothing store came into the redhead's view, she had to give Julian a brief slap on the shoulder before running off toward it. His company had helped her calm down, and Lucky was an afterthought. Well, she was for Liz. Julian would catch a brief glimpse of the spotty green panda staggering by. She paused when she realized she was being watched, wave to the boy happily, and proceeded on her way. She was clearly not finished with her adventure and entrusting Julian to take care of her Trainer.
Liz was already in the store by the time Julian got to her. It could only be hoped that he realized Lucky was indeed a lucky little Spinda and wouldn't be caught unless she was ready to be. Liz didn't look particularly interested in getting anything until Julian came to her. She made a quick, awkward sign offering to show him something with a big yet bashful smile. She hadn't had new clothes recently and she was hoping to change that! "I figure you can help. Right?" She hadn't been very careful to let him read her lips, but the deaf young man would be able to guess she wanted him to model for. A first for the young lady, finding a collection of garments that she had already been interested in and disappearing into a changing room. It was a blur of different outfits and a couple of silly costumes pretending to be a Pokemon Ranger or a mascot. For her final piece, Liz was hesitant to go back into the changing room. There was some rustling from inside as she struggled with the item she was trying so desperately to sneak on or somehow make more presentable? She couldn't even figure out what she was struggling with. After a near miss tripping over her own feet, Liz secured the ties of her potential bathing suit and stepped out for Julian to see. This was a new thing, the bikini doing rather poorly to protect her decency, but she liked the look of it and had this delusion that it wouldn't be so baring. She offered a coy smile, bracing one arm across her chest without a second thought. "H-how does this look?" Liz asked, uneasy with her decision. This might have been a bad idea. Elizabeth Morgan Julian's reaction was honestly not what Liz had been hoping for. Not that she was offended by his awe, but how could she convince herself not to buy it with that kind of admiration!? The silence made it more awkward as she began to move her arms to cover herself. Julian forgot to at least sign, Liz forgot that he needed to. "W-what? Don't s-s-stare. It's just a swimsuit!" She mewled, growing more bashful the longer it took her partner to "say" something. The redness in her cheeks threatened to burn if all he was going to do was stare. This was why she hit people! Once Julian did rediscover his words--and remember that Noctowl couldn't relay thoughts right now--Liz had her fears alleviated and her disappointment was lost in whatever compliments she received. The suit was purchased along with two outfits for summer weather so the redhead didn't have to worry about sunshine getting to her. She smiled awkwardly at Julian before Persian's Thunder drew their notice. The shock made Liz jump and she glanced from the clear night sky back to Julian and then up again. "Is that...do you think someone's having a Battle? You don't think..." Liz really hoped not even as she suggested it. That Thunder looked terrible for whoever caught it. It made her worry about Lucky again.
The Spinda in question had only just found Persian after she blasted away that poor Murkrow. She watched in awe of the feline before a muted applause with those fluffy paws might get the big cat's attention. Lucky declared awe for Persian's attacks, though she felt that Persian might have gone a little overboard taking out a bird like that. She offered Persian a spare berry as a treat for a job well done. It might not be a favorite of the predator cat's, but it was still a nice gesture. She turned with a flamboyant wave to head off once more, carrying her pile of loot, when she ran into an Aron carrying a Berry Pot of her own. The Aron looked ready for a fight over the accident, Lucky just staggered back and smiled at the new acquaintance. Meanwhile, Julian had back-pedaled quickly when Liz took his silence and dumb-struck expression as an insult rather than the compliment it was intended. He started to sign before remembering that she wouldn't understand, sighed, and gave up. That's when the Thunder Attack crashed down in the distance. Liz brought up the idea that it may have been one of their Pokemon, or a Pokemon battle between two other Trainers. He wasn't sure, but decided he wanted to find out for sure one way or the other. He took her hand, leading the way down the labyrinthine-like alleys which composed the City streets.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz was flustered and a little anxious, but Julian's flailing attempts to sign with her ruined her distress entirely. His flailing was nothing short of adorable and it made Liz forget she felt completely exposed as her arms moved from a defensive posture to holding her sides. The young woman laughed at Julian, at herself, at how ridiculously she had been behaving even now. It was suddenly too funny to think that just a couple of weeks ago she had left home to escape a personal strife. Now here she was, her biggest fear being a boy ogling her in a bikini. Too much had changed, and it was for the better. "Haha--Ahah--I-I'm sorry! This is too funny!" She gasped out, sharing the joke with her partner instead of making him feel like she had snapped. Of course, that wouldn't be an inaccurate thought... "I've-I've never been so embarrassed. And it's just a swimsuit! Ahahaha!" She had to wipe a tear from her eye after coming back from her laughing fit. The Thunder caused Liz to move faster than intended and now she was running through Alto Mare alongside Julian wearing only the bikini with her pack and a shopping bag slung over her shoulder. She had grasped Julian's hand the moment she started running for the source of the lightning.
When the pair reached Persian, she and Lucky were still watching Aron. Aron looked anxious but was willing to take Persian's offer to back off. She could hit the cat. Once. Maybe...Best not to tempt fate! She was turning to walk away when Liz and Julian came running up. "Is everyone ok here? I saw lightning. Did somebody get--Lucky!?" Liz let go of Julian quickly to grab up her Spinda in a tight hug, which dumped most of the items on the ground. "Lucky, I was so worried about you! Don't wander off like that again! You could've been hurt!" She chastised her Spina, who was just as obliviously cheerful as ever. Persian got an enthusiastic petting before Liz touched her forehead to the cat's. Probably not a good idea, but grateful tears leaked from her eyes that might stop Persian from striking at the redheaded space invader. "Thank you, Persian." No, Persian didn't do anything, but she was present and Lucky was unharmed. Persian didn't have to worry about the closeness for long when Aron clunked up to the human and bumped her thick plated forehead on Liz's thigh. The redhead glanced down at the strange Pokemon, then up to Persian, then Julian. "Is this your Pokemon?" She asked, realizing that she had never seen an Aron before and was so far convinced that Julian had at least one of everything in his collection. She had to be his. Liz pat Aron on the head gently, curious and pleased with the newfound companion. Elizabeth Morgan With Lucky returned to her grateful trainer, Liz didn't really care about the stuff her Spinda had picked up. In fact, she liked the idea that these were somehow gifts. She realized that they couldn't be anything else also. Lucky would have been stopped by someone if she were stealing Berry Pots. Nobody was that lucky. Julian declaring the Aron wasn't his raised Liz's concern as the cool metal head made her tremble just a bit from chills. Aron's presence made the redhead uneasy the same way finding a lost child might upset someone. She had just experienced the awful feeling of losing one of her Pokemon, somebody else must be missing this precious thing! "Don't you worry. I'll get you home. Wanna come?" The offer was sudden and Liz wasn't even angled correctly for Julian to get a clear read on her lips. It was good that Noctowl was here now to let him know what she said and continue sending messages back to Liz. With or without her friend, Liz was going to figure out what to do with this Aron and take good care of the creature. Aron only looked quizzical, trying to figure out what this girl meant by "home." The place she was staying? Aron hesitated, still unsure about Liz's inquiry before turning and heading to the area she was staying with some other stray Pokemon. It wasn't exactly easy for an Aron to leave a seafaring town. She sank like a big rock. Liz was stroking Lucky's head gently when Julian reminded her of the loot. "Hmm, yeah. That's a good point. What kind of trouble were you getting into, Lucky?" Though she was suspicious and her town sounded ready for another chiding, Liz had the faintest hint of a smile on her face. Elizabeth Morgan Liz looked perturbed at hearing Aron had no Trainer. She was getting a good idea of what was happening with the little metal Pokemon at that point. "What? That poor thing!" She turned back and smiled brightly at Aron, kneeling down until she was on her hands and knees in front of it. "It's OK, Aron. I'll take care of you." Julian might be impressed with how quickly the redhead was trying to make a friend out of the new Pokemon, but he might also be a tad distracted by Elizabeth's hind end up in the air while she was focused on keeping Aron calm and convincing it to join her. "Come with us! You'll never be bored. And you can have all the Berries we can find. And you'll get to have a bunch of new friends, too!" She declared gleefully, causing Aron to take a wary step back even as this list sounded--Kind of--tempting. She was still considering running away. Liz was the owner of that annoying Spinda, and she did not look forward to spending more time with Lucky.
Rather than press on with the closeness and reassurance, Liz went for a simple and direct route. Bribery! She dug into her bag and produced a Berry from it before setting it down in front of Aron. "Here. This is for you." She offered to the metal creature. Aron sniffed at the Berry, then looked at Liz, then Persian and Julian--who were quite scary to her right now--before she chomped the Berry and gulped it down with a little splat of green staining her face plate. Liz could only laugh, sitting up on her knees now and wiping Aron's maw with her thumb. Aron hesitated, looking back in the direction of something the trainers weren't fully aware of. Noctowl would be able to figure out--even without telepathy--that Aron was helping other stray Pokemon with collecting all of this. It was up to him to relay all of that since Liz would no doubt want to go and help them out as well! Aron was being convinced to come along, it might be best to leave it at that. "Come on, Aron." Liz said softly, picking up a Pokeball from another pouch in her backpack and enlarging it. "What do you say?" Rather than toss it or tap it, Liz set the ball down in front of Aron. She wanted to let her new friend decide to come. Aron was still hesitating, even as she kept taking tentative steps toward the option of having a new adventure. "Oh, hey. What's this basket for?" Liz had been ignoring the obvious oddity of Aron carrying a Berry Pot just like Lucky was. It was fully of Berries like Lucky's too! Aron flinched away when Liz reached to pick it off of her back. "It's OK. I won't take it away. Where are you going with all this food?" Liz was quite curious, and Aron was hard-pressed to let her take it. She finally relented knowing the human had no intention of stealing her friends' food. After a brief protest at being relieved of her Berries, Aron finally butted her head against the Pokeball with a huff. She didn't like asking for help, so letting Liz rob her and catch her worked just fine. As she was enveloped in red, Aron looked up at Persian, barking a demand that these Berries make it to her friends at the southern part of the city. Liz picked up Aron's ball and frowned again when it vanished. "I hate this registry system." She muttered with a pout, standing up slowly and gathering Aron's Pot in her arms. "I'm going to find out what Aron needed this many Berries for. Do you want to come too?" Offered the redhead, looking back to Julian after taking a step toward the East. If Liz was going to hunt for wild Pokemon she might need an escort. One that could tell her where she needed to go. She was going to get lost on her own. "I'll make the race." She added suddenly with a warm smile. "I promise I'll watch you." The redhead declared again, reminding Julian that he had something to get ready for himself. Even if it took her all night and half the morning to find the other Pokemon, Liz would come back to see Julian racing with Quagsire.Aron captured! Julian Malcolm
Engulfed in self pity, he closed his eyes and tried to drift off to sleep without turning the lights off. All of his Pokemon were back in their Pokeballs, and it was sort of a time for him to have some peace before the big race the very next day. He wondered what Liz was doing now, and whether she would show up in the night. They were, after all, sharing a room. Amid thoughts of the girl he was falling fast for, Julian remembered the race. Somehow it had slipped his mind more than once today. Would Quagsire be able to pull this off? He hadn't seen how fast any other Racers were on their rafts, but surely others had been practicing for this much longer than he had, years even rather than his single night of flopping into the water over and over.

Elizabeth Morgan While Julian was heading back to the Pokemon Center, Liz followed after a random hunch of Aron's location. She had all of her possessions--including what she collected from Lucky and the things Aron had allowed her to claim. It didn't take long for the redhead to realize two major problems with the decisions she had made. She quickly became lost, even with Lucky to guide her, and she had no idea where to look for Aron's friends. This prompted a quick trip back to the Pokemon Center to acquire her new friend before heading out on an adventure! The red-haired trainer released her Aron immediately, offering the Berry Pot to her little friend still full of the Berries she had already collected. "Now that you're with me, I'm going to have to come up with a name for you." Liz announced, getting a sideways glance from the Aron. "How about, Erin! No, that won't work. Darcy! Aurora. Reggie. Shelly?" Aron was starting to feel like her new trainer was a mistake and the human was making fun of her. She snorted in agitation and scooped mud onto her face plate before slinging it at the ground further ahead. Liz seemed offended momentarily, recognizing the aggression without even realizing it. "Well, aren't you just the sassy little Digger!" She huffed at the rebellious Pokemon. Her frustration quickly melted away into a gleeful smile. The redhead pet her Aron and nodded happily. "Diggle! I'm going to name you Diggle! My cute little digger!" Julian Malcolm The next morning, Julian woke with a start. He hastily changed into his swimming trunks, which had been hung up over the bath tub to dry overnight. He'd seen swimmers with their Pokeballs attacked still to special belts just like the one Julian had, which allowed them to keep their Pokemon on them while out in the water, so he knew it would be safe to bring the rest of his team along as well. He came scrambling down the stairs, skidding to a halt at the front desk where Nurse Joy stood waiting for him. "Good morning!" She said brightly. "You've still got a few minutes to get out to the race before it starts." It was as if she'd read his mind, which was honestly good for him since Noctowl was safely put away in his Pokeball.
Julian raced out of the Pokemon Center and jumped off the cobbled street and into the canal where he'd docked his raft the night before. He swam over to it, clamoring up and wresting his Pokeball from the belt to let out Quagsire. The slippery fish swam over to the bit, putting it into his mouth and becoming the driving force behind his raft that took him down a turns and finally to the starting line. Julian stared up and down the line, which he was in the center of, and noticed a variety of Pokemon. Not one of them seemed to be using the same one, a bit strange in his opinion.
He noticed a Wailmer, Lanturn, Totodile, Vaporeon, and many others lined up. Some were strapped in, others had bits like his own Quagsire. Just above them, and a little ways ahead, there was a bridge that crossed over the canals and it was filled with people. He looked through the crowd, but couldn't distinguish whether or not Liz was there. With a pang of guilt, he realized this was the first time he hadn't realized she didn't turn up in the room last night. He hoped privately that she was okay, and if she didn't turn up to congratulate him whether he won or lost, he knew he'd start looking for her at once. -Backpack-

Julian Malcolm
A Man wearing a Referee shirt stood on a sort of floating platform not unlike their own ahead of them all, turned to face the Racers. He had a flag hung in one hand, and after a few more minutes of waiting for any more straggling Participants, he raised it into the air. Julian's heart leapt into his throat. He wasn't ready, he knew he wasn't ready. That didn't seem to stop what was about to happen though, and he hastily gripped the line to Quagsire tighter by the wooden handle in his hands tighter. He slashed the flag downwards, and the Racers were off.
Quagsire didn't need an order from Julian, he knew it was time. The platform beneath Julian rocketed forward what seemed much faster than he'd gone at any point the night before. It was a miracle he managed to keep his balance, but he was keeping up with the others. It didn't take long for some Racers to fall behind, or for others to inch forward bit by bit ahead of the rest. Julian urged Quagsire on. Faster, just a bit faster. Come on... time seemed to slow down for him, and he could see his team gaining speed. He was one of three Racers who pulled ahead, taking twists and turns, balancing through the sheer force of his panic in a way he never could have done by practice.

Julian raced on, knees shaking violently as a single bolt of lightning crashed down into a building along the side of the canal. The force was intense, and screams quickly replaced the cheers. People ran for cover, despite the fact that the house he was racing past was now on fire. Was any place safe enough for them? An internal battle was going on within him. Stop and help, or try to win the race? Surely someone would be able to put out the fire... did they really need his help? The moments passed by, and still hadn't altered his course. He was soon past the building. Only then did he notice that one of the three in the lead actually had turned back to see what he could do. That meant there was only him and one other person. They risked a look at one another, and in that moment Julian knew that neither one was going to give up.
One final right turn, and they could see the finish line up ahead. They were neck-and-neck, and he could still hear the other Racers behind him. They weren't gaining on him, but they were keeping up. This was it, the final stretch! The storm clouds had now completely blotted out the fierce ocean sunlight, but he didn't, he couldn't pay it any attention just yet. A bolt of lightning cascaded from the sky, directly towards him. Quagsire was going just fast enough that it missed him, landing into the water behind him and erupting. Both he and the other Racer posing a threat to him were flung forward body, raft, and Pokemon into the water with a massive wave that washed over them.
Julian surfaced, coughing up water he swallowed while trying to scream in his fall. He looked behind him and noticed that the Racers who were tailing him had been caught by the same sort of damage, though sent the other way.
