Having found a good place to sit down and set up camp, Julian jotted down on a note that the Trainer could hang out for a while if he wanted. He then turned and made sure all of his Pokemon were fully healed. In the process of putting his Potions back into the bag, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. Could it be? He stood up hesitantly, approaching with caution. There, in the leaves, two mushrooms! He'd been searching for them for nearly two days now. Reaching down, he tried to pick them out of the ground when they pulled back. No, wait, that couldn't be right...
Suddenly, a wild Paras attacked! It launched itself out of the bushes, aimed for Julian's face. He ducked, and the Pokemon went flying right over his head. The Pokemon must have been hiding away in the leaves. The usually complacent Houndour jumped forward to stand between Julian and the attacking Pokemon, growling in a threatening manner.

The bug attacked first, scratching Houndour's face (-30, 60/90). The dog flinched backwards, but shot a blast of Ember at his enemy (-60, 60.120). When Houndour rushed in to try biting the bug, Paras scratched Houndour's face and tried to scurry away (-30, 30/90). Houndour was infuriated now, and ran into the brush after the attacking Paras. Julian obviously couldn't hear what was going on, but he pointed Hoothoot in that direction and the owl took off into the forest in hot pursuit.
Julian was confident Houndour could handle himself, but wanted to make sure the Pokemon was safe.
Deeper in the forest, Hoothoot caught up with the pair of Pokemon just as they entered a clearing. There was nowhere left for the bug to go, Houndour approached step by slow step, trying to intimidate Paras. Clearly by the look on it's face, it was working. "Hoo... Hoot." Hoothoot called down below, drawing the attention of both Pokemon. Roughly translated, Hoothoot told Houndour to finish this up and quit fooling around. Grunting an unheard retort, Houndour shot one final blast of Ember at the bug, turning to walk away before the attack even hit (-60, 0/120).

A rustling overhead caught the attention of Julian's Pokemon, but he had dozed off. The other Trainer must have moved on, Julian hadn't noticed either way. His Pokemon decided to let the deaf Trainer have his rest, they would investigate on their own. Hoothoot took the lead, flying up into the tree and looking around. Finding the culprit, the owl knocked the wild Pokemon out of the tree. It was a Kakuna! It immediately tried defending itself with Harden, but Houndour was on it immediately shooting two blasts of Ember in rapid succession to defeat the bug with ease.

All the Pokemon decided that while their Trainer napped, they would go exploring the forest some more. Maybe even look for that mushroom again. Hoothoot stayed with Julian, while the others went in all different directions with the exception of Umbreon and Espeon who stayed together as always.
Cyndaquil came across a clearing pretty quick. A fluttering of wings drew the fire-mouse's attention. Seeing a Hoothoot, Cyndaquil thought it was Julian's until the wild Pokemon drew closer. Then it was clear that it was the same Hoothoot from before. The one who battled Cyndaquil. "Hoo."
"Cyn. Cynda-Quil." Their discussion was brief, but the scenario clear. Hoothoot wanted a rematch. Hoothoot made the first move, using Peck. It didn't matter though, because when the owl was close enough to attack Cyndaquil exploded with electricity. "Cynda-QUIL!" Weakened again, Cyndaquil scurried back to Julian's camp leaving the unconscious owl behind.

The party decided, after approximately an hour of unsuccessful searching, that they should head back to their Trainer. What timing too, because Julian was just waking up from his pseudo-nap! Umbreon and Epeon returned first, stretching and yawning in unison. They both curled up at Julian's feet. Since Hoothoot had stayed behind, he was still in the branches of the tree overhead, watching the scene play out below. Cyndaquil, Houndour, and Litwick all returned and worked together to start a camp fire. Wooper, however, was nowhere to be seen.

Just where could that silly little water-type have gotten off to? Julian wondered to himself. It wasn't like his Pokemon to stay gone for long. He'd give the Pokemon a while longer to return before he went and looked for him. Until then, Julian decided he would use this time to warm up via the camp fire. It was growing colder, fall was starting and he was slightly wet from the rain before.

Wait a minute, that was it. The rain gave the Trainer an idea of just where his Pokemon had gone. He rose to his feet, making sure Cyndaquil was healed (how had that happened?) and that Hoothoot and Cyndaquil was tagging along with him. He had the others wait at camp. Back they marched through the trees the way they had come. Finally, Julian had returned to the stream. He had a feeling that Whooper was enjoying the now-cold water.

Suddenly, the storm picked up. Julian had to shield his Cyndaquil from the sudden downpour. At least Cyndaquil wasn't like a Charmander, they could get wet and survive the experience. Which came in handy now for example, since they were all being soaked through now even through the canopy. Julian began confusedly searching for Wooper while simultaneously shielding his two Pokemon from the storm. Wait a minute, there was an easy fix to this! He recalled them both to their Pokeball, hurriedly stowing the techno-balls away in his pocket.

Suddenly, -SPLASH- Out popped Wooper from the water, shaking himself off. Julian sighed in relief and recalled a very confused-looking Wooper to his Pokeball. Clearly the Pokemon hadn't expected to see his Trainer awake and out looking for him. Now to get out of the storm. He hurried through the forest, taking a turn and venturing into the thicker portion of the woods. There he found a small cave that he huddled into. He wrapped his arms around his legs, shivering from the cold and wet.

He knew that he wasn't going to last long being this cold, so he had to call out Cyndaquil from the correct Pokeball, fingers trembling as he did so. Thankfully he found the right one on the first try. Cyndaquil could clearly see that the Trainer was shivering so severely, and let the flame erupt from his back. Julian gratefully let the flame warm him, hands facing the fire and fingers moving to get the blood pumping again. This was exactly what he'd needed. He hoped the others were alright, and that their treetop canopy held out against the sudden downpour.

Julian must have dozed off, because when Cyndaquil nudged him awake the downpour had lightened to a sprinkle. Julian was no longer cold nor wet, the fire having dried and warmed him perfectly. He wondered how long he'd been asleep as he started out of the cave with Cyndaquil carried in his arms. The little mouse had really come through for him there, and in that instance he knew that he'd made the right choice at the Professor's Laboratory. He could hear the stream, which meant it had grown in power and size. He avoided that area and went around the long way back to his camp.
Along the way, something incredible happened. He found the mushroom he'd been looking for! He picked it, and hurried back.

"This is great. We're going to be walking for hours," Calcifer groaned from Demeter's shadow, though he had plenty of room to roam now since the ground was covered in shadows.
"What on Arceus' green earth are you going on about? You don't walk Calcifer," Loki sneered at the ghost's less than viable complaints.
"But you two do, and you two walk really slow sometimes," the ghost answered back as a matter of factly.
"We've talked about this you two. I am not going to sit here and listen to you ramble for the next few hours while we get through here. I will leave you," Demeter huffed as the two continued on, but her statement left the trio in silence for only a moment before Loki spoke up again.
"So, about that new recruit of ours. Were we just going to harbor it in a Pokeball for the rest of it's life, or see if it might be worth something," Loki inquired then, a topic that mildly piqued Demeter's interest. Her gray eyes cast down to the alienated Pokeball latched to her hip, the one she hadn't called on yet because of the uncertainty of it, but Loki was right. They couldn't just keep it locked up forever. Sure, she wasn't the nicest person, but she wasn't going to kill the thing. If anything, she could at least sell it for a few bucks that she could use later. It would be very difficult for the thing to be worth anything to her otherwise, worth enough to keep.
"Thank you for being a productive member to society Loki," Demeter commented as she took up the Pokeball in her hands, and tossed it around for a moment. Loki and Calcifer both looked on with minor interest as Calcifer had come up from the shadows that covered the ground, waiting for the runt to be released. Within a flash of light, a small Cyndaquil emerged from the Pokeball, sitting on the ground, and the first thing that Demeter did notice about it is it's coat. Rather than the typical teal that the Echidna was known for, it was a brown color. It could definitely fetch a pretty penny then being of a rarer variety. The rodent looked around itself for a moment, of course now not being in the laboratory that it might remember, sniffing around on the ground, taking a few steps this way and that, until it turned to look at Loki and Calcifer who lunged for it, the fox bearing his fangs and claws after dropping his illusion and the ghost bearing a sinister look, getting ready to scare the runt into the woods, but to their shock, it did nothing. It looked at them for only a moment before leaning down and scratching with a hind leg behind it's head.
"Is that what you like to call a first impression," the Cyndaquil asked with a sneer, looking up to the two Pokemon indifferently. She couldn't quite know what it was saying, but if she had to guess, it must have said something pretty impressive for something so small and useless to put off Loki and Calcifer like that. It didn't even raise it's hair when the two lunged at it, and Demeter had to say, that was more than surprising, shocking even. Of course, the two dumb asses weren't as scary as they thought they were, but for such a little runt, it seemed to handle itself pretty well. The fox and the ghost looked down at it indignantly though as their little scare had done little to raise even a single plume of smoke from the holes on its back, standing back with a glare.
"Call it a test if you will," Loki commented down to the small rodent.
"A test you kind of failed? Not sure if I should be insulted or not," the Cyndaquil spoke up to the Zoroark, clearly not phased at all by their antics, but Loki raised an eyebrow at the brash words coming from such a little thing.
"That's big talk for such a runt," Calcifer spoke up, stepping towards the rodent again in another attempt to intimidate the thing, but it still only looked to the ghost type with a raised eyebrow of it's own.
"What's your deal? I wasn't even talking to you," it leered back, trying to figure out how him talking to the Zoroark somehow meant that the Gengar had to answer.
"Ok, clearly I'm not wanted here, I get it. You're insulted that a new Pokemon is 'becoming part of the team'. I've seen it before, so thanks but no thanks," he returned after a moment, turning to walk away then. There was no concern about being left alone in the forest, no remorse for leaving the trainer that had come to take it from the laboratory, and Demeter was going to let it go. If it didn't want to come along, she wasn't going to have something on her team capable of insubordinance and disobedience. Still though, there was it's rarity, and the color of it's coat, it could fetch a nice sum to some of her 'business partners', but she looked on as a screech came from the trees around them, and a Hoothoot came fluttering down from the trees looking for its next meal. She would let the bird do the work for her, knocking it out, and then snatch it back into it's Pokeball to sell it later. Loki and Calcifer looked on too, watching the bird sweep through the air, clearly targeting the echidna, but in a wave of what looked like psychic power, the bird was shoved into a nearby tree with a 'thud', landing on the ground in a small puff of feathers and leaves. The Cyndaquil turned towards its attacker as it struggled to get up from the ground to make another assault, but a red flare came from its back, erupting into a burst of red fire that burst through the air around it, effectively burning the bird and sending it hobbling away in defeat. It didn’t even take a single scratch from that Hoothoot, and not that the bird was a formidable opponent by any means, but the Cyndaquil really shouldn’t have been able to handle itself. The point of getting one of those Pokemon from those professors is to have something weak and sniveling that can maybe grow stronger if you’re a decent enough trainer, she knew well enough of new trainers and the brand new Pokemon they received, they weren’t capable of anything that Cyndaquil had just shown off. It was a split second decision, one that could hinder her mission, but if she could break this Cyndaquil and only continue to make it stronger, it could prove to be a promising asset. With that, she returned it to the Pokeball she had for it before it got too far after defeating the Hoothoot, tucking away the ball on her belt. Loki and Calcifer though almost gaped at the action as they looked on with questioning.
”You’ve favored the word insubordination recently as we move on to this new mission of ours. What do you think that runt is capable of,” Loki inquired with a sneer, having already not been particularly fond of the Cyndaquil they’d acquired.
”Seriously though? Why are we keeping it? It didn’t want anything to do with us,” Calcifer added, crossing his arms over his chest. Demeter only looked to the both of them with her sharp gray eyes, her demeanor level and calculated.
”As an administrator, in my level of work I know how to gauge the potential of a Pokemon for worth, exploitation or otherwise. It is with my knowledge on the subjects that I’ve determined this Pokemon to be an asset. As such, we are going to keep it,” Demeter replied, and with that she turned to continue on their way down the path, heading for Goldenrod City. Julian Malcolm
Suddenly there were two doorways. Julian collected his items, but didn't know which one to choose or where they would lead. He looked over at Quagsire, who had helped her defeat the thirteenth and final Guardian, and shrugged. Julian assumed Quagsire was thinking, but it was hard to tell with his vacant expression. Then he walked up to one, and simply entered. Well, that settled it then. Julian followed his Pokemon through.
It had been so long, that the Ilex Forest seemed like a dream. There they were though, still sitting in the same camp. It seemed that no time had passed, the storm that had plagued them was finally passing and the sun was making a feeble attempt to return to life. The weather was amazing, a dream come true when compared to the extreme heat or extreme cold, or even the winds that threatened to blow him off of mountain tops. That wasn't a fun experience, but he was home again. Well, sort of. He was back in reality, at least.
A flock of Zubat bolted from a hole in the tree beside Julian. One of them was slower though, and must have decided to attack Julian and Quagsire. Using a single Blizzard attack, Quagsire showed the forest just how much stronger he had gotten in a matter of seconds of their time. Zubat was dropped out of the sky, wings frozen stiff, and unable to battle.
"No, I'm telling you. He came this way with a tiny Wooper. He has such weak Pokemon that they should be so easy to steal." Julian naturally didn't hear this, but Quagsire did. He stared in the direction of the voice, watching and waiting patiently for the source to enter their camp. When two Team Rocket Grunts broke through the trees and brush, they were grinning darkly. "See, what did I tell you."
The other Team Rocket grunt slapped the other on the back of the head. "You idiot, that's not a Wooper. How long have you been a Pokemon Trainer?!" Rubbing the back of his head, the first Grunt said nothing but looked away.
"It doesn't matter, because there's no way you can beat me!" He grinned again as he threw out his Pokeball. A Pidgeotto appeared, fluffing up his feathers to look bigger and badder. "Go Pidgeotto, use Gust!" Before the bird could even lift it's wings, Quagsire whipped up another focused Blizzard. Pidgeotto didn't stand a chance. "No, Pidgeotto! Return." He was practically seething. "This isn't over, Runt." It looked pretty over to Julian though, as they retreated back into the woods.

Julian Malcolm
Now that they were back in the real world, Julian was exhausted. There must have been something about that other place that kept him active and kept him going, but it had clearly worn off. All he wanted to do now was sleep. He called out Exeggutor as well, to stand guard alongside Quagsire as Julian slept. And sleep he did, for nearly fourteen hours straight. So long that Tank and Quagsire had played multiple games including hide-and-seek (something Tank was exceptionally good at in a forest), tag, and anything else they could think of. They never wondered far though, Team Rocket could still be in the area.
The next morning, Julian was woken up by the bird Pokemon singing in the trees around them. He stretched, feeling more refreshed than he had in what seemed forever. That challenge, the nightmare, was over and he was ready to begin his training once more. Alongside Tank and Quagsire, Julian began looking for a wild Pokemon to battle. He wasn't sure which of the two Pokemon he would use.
It was Quagsire who spotted the first wild Pokemon; a Metapod hanging from a tree branch. A Blizzard attack made short work of the bug and knocked it out o the tree to land in a bush. Julian decided to leave it there to recover in peace. He nodded at Quagsire, who smiled blankly in return.

A Psyduck decided to randomly walk up behind them, not the Trainer nor his Pokemon even realized they weren't alone until the Psyduck (who was looking around with them as if he were part of the search party) spoke up. "So, what are we looking for?" Tank and Quagsire both turned around confused. Then, Tank used Uproar to knock the small duck away. Taking a tumble, Psyduck was sent into the bushes next to Julian. The Trainer blinked a couple of times in confusion, but tapped the Psyduck on the head with an empty Pokeball. It shook in his hand a few times but sealed.
None of them really knew how to react to the strange duck's appearance, but he was part of the team now. Quagsire would have someone to swim around with now when they found water. Speaking of water, Julian remembered the stream nearby. That was where they were heading next for a refreshing break.
Quagsire and Psyduck both had the most adorably stupid blank looks that made Julian smile the entire time they swam around in the water. He himself sat with his feet in the stream, letting the cool water wash over them. Tank had been returned to his Pokeball before they went to the stream so he wouldn't have to navigate around all the trees with his large size.
About twenty minutes later, Julian was ready to get out of this forest and head back to the city for his next big Pokemon Gym battle, and more importantly to heal his fainted Pokemon.

Back into the forest went Julian, now accompanied by Typhlosion walking on all fours. He couldn't help but stare at Typhlosion's beautiful new coat color. He was now not only the fastest Cyndaquil to evolve into a Typhlosion recorded, by made even more unique by his special coloration. He was so distracted that he didn't even realize how far they had come into the forest. This time was different, however. They weren't here to train, or to explore. They were just passing through on the road to Julian's next Pokemon Gym challenge.

There was a good reason that Julian hadn't called out Umbreon and Espeon until now; he hadn't thought about it. He had put them up in case he had to make a quick get-away, but Typhlosion's situation had caught him off guard and kept him thinking the entire time they were walking into and through the forest. Before he knew it they were half way through. That was when he remembered the pair and sent them back out to join the journey. As he trudged into the Ilex Forest, Skylar along side his Latios enjoyed the Scenery that was something new other than seeing caves and cities. "You know, its actually really nice getting out of the cities every now and again." Skylar spoke as they moved through the forest. "I know what you mean, peace and quiet. The feeling of that nothing can go wrong." Skylar nodded before looking on over. "Hey don't go jinxing us now bud. We barely made it passed Johto's second Gym. Hopefully that will give Emellanna and some of the others the wake up call and let them know I'm serious about taking on the league here." The Latios had no problem listening to Skylar, even if only he had just gotten a mere taste of the power the Latios had. Perhaps one day he could unlock the true potential behind the Eon Pokemon. "I Know what your getting at Sky, but keep in mind, the Suicune you caught was incredibly strong. I doubt it would listen yet in battle." Skylar's gaze fixed up on the sky that peaks through the branches and leaves. "Yeah.. but that time will come when it does." He spoke as they traveled on. Soon being stalked by something in the bushes a figure began to follow them.

The sound of grass and twigs swishing and crunching under the shoes of the young man, Skylar propped his arms up behind his head with his palms on the back of his head. Soon a sigh of relief escaped his lips. He seemed more at ease now that they were in a forest. Dunno why but he always enjoyed the outdoors. Moments later the Latios stopped and turned around. This caused Skylar to do the same to look to the Eon Pokemon. "What is it?" He asked as the Latios glares around feeling a slight sense of power in the area, not threatening but it was there. "We aren't alone out here..." He spoke quietly as Skylar made his way beside the Eon Pokemon. As if on cue an Oddish jumped out of the bushes and rather territorial of the small area it was in, it sprays out a poisonous powder at the duo. Luckily Spectro was able to scoop up Skylar in time to where he was now on his back. "Well that wasn't very nice!" Skylar exclaimed. The young man called for the Pokemon to attack, perhaps to do enough to send it packing back to where it came from. At command, the Latios used a super effective Psyshock that indeed sent the Oddish fleeing after being defeated with one move. After the Oddish fled, Skylar noticed something on the ground. Sliding off the dragon who was now literally hovering over him to keep watch, Skylar picked up a Big Mushroom. Storing it away in his pack they continue on. Meanwhile a figure was still following without getting noticed.

The Latios didn't need to be told to do so. He had already been doing it since the encounter. The Latios felt a psychic energy not too far from the group, he rushes up in front of Skylar. "Hold up, somethings coming." The Latios said. Soon the bushes began to rustle as a white and pink fluffy Ponyta gallops out of the bushes but soon skidded to a halt spotting the duo.
