Personality: She is particular about how she behaves around others. Good manners are important to her. She goes out of her way to remain on her best behavior - though this often gets in the way of her being able to do what she wants. It was also one of the causes of her breakdown. She tries to deal with her anxiety but it's a work in progress. Her reaction to stress is to freeze up like a Deerling in the headlights. Anyone that can convince her to open up to them will find that she's a sweet girl- and perhaps a bit naive. Her expectations for herself are unreasonably high. While she's trying to work on this, she still has a long way to go. She relies heavily on her support Pokemon to help her through her day.
History: Briar was raised by her aunt and uncle in Circhester, Galar. What little she knows about her mother and father, she learned from her grandmother- who had been friends with her maternal grandmother before Briar was born. Her father had met her mother when her grandmother decided to visit her old friend. He had gone along for the fun of it after learning the friend had kids close to his age. At some point during their month long stay, Briar happened. Needless to say, her family was less than pleased. Her father hadn't hesitated to give her up. He was going to start college soon and couldn't reasonably raise a baby. Her mother fought tooth and nail to keep her but eventuallywas forced to agreed to let her father's aunt and uncle adopt her. After the adoption, the majority of her paternal family pretended her mother didn't exist. Her father's contact with her was kept to a minimum.
Life with her aunt and uncle was far from ideal. Her uncle was indifferent. Her aunt was a tyrant. She can't recall a time in her childhood where she wasn't working. Dance lessons, pageants, singing, acting lessons...If she was going to stay with them, she had to prove she was worth keeping. That was what she was told anyway. Looking back, she believes her aunt was living vicariously through her. She was determined to turn Briar into a perfect little starlet. Her aunt was furious when her acting career never took off. She decided to try what she had decided was the next best thing- singing. Briar found significantly more success with her singing career. At fourteen she found herself going on tours through different regions. Seeing her success as a way to finally get her family to love her, Briar put everything she had into it. The cracks began to form almost immediately. Something as small as a single wrong note or a misstep while dancing resulted in progressively harsher punishments. It only got worse as she got older. Her life had devolved into training and performing. When she wasn't on stage, she was practicing for her next show. Towards the end, Briar couldn't bring herself to eat or sleep. Breaks would take away from the time she could be working. Her strict schedule would finally break her during her last performance. The show was flawless up until halfway through. Briar suddenly stopped singing. She stood on stage, staring out at the crowd. She couldn't hear them or the music playing. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get her voice to come out. The microphone slipped from her hand. A few seconds later, Briar dropped.
She woke up in the hospital a week later. Several months would pass before Briar could be convinced to interact with anything. Something had snapped inside of her. The only thing that was able to get through to her was a support Pokemon her therapist had arranged for her. She became incredibly attached to the Absol and would only speak when it was in the room with her. With his help she was able to recover enough to almost be discharged. Almost. When she was close to being let out of the hospital, her aunt began arranging more work for her. Briar had a panic attack at the thought of being on stage again. She just couldn't do it anymore. It was too much for her. This resulted in a huge "fight" between herself and her aunt- in which her aunt screamed at her until security escorted her from the hospital. Briar took a couple of days to collect herself and come up with a plan. She was not going back to her aunt and uncle and there was no way in hell she was going to sing again. Her solution was simple. She was going to run. Briar packed what little she had in the hospital, cleared out her bank account, and fled.
Postwick became her temporary home until she figured out what she wanted to do next. There were plenty of other regions she could hide out in but what would she do from there? The answer was simple: she was going to do something for herself for once in her life. Becoming a trainer had always sounded fun but she never had the opportunity. She was going to get a starter and...maybe work her way through another region from there? She would have to make it up as she went.
Appearance/Physical Description: Briar has curly white waist length hair. Her skin is pale and covered in faint freckles. She got her looks from her father, which sometimes upsets her as she would have liked some small part of her appearance to have come from her mother. The only trait she got from her mother was her voice. She wears baggy clothing, preferring to keep her body hidden. Anything too colorful or flashy reminds her of her time on stage so she avoids them as much as possible.
