Vale is one hard to pin-point beast. A talkative and outgoing individual, who may as well stab you in the back next day, all because you were in his way or just because he didn't like your 'vibe'. His moral compass is tricky, since he normally follows 'law' and 'rules', but mostly when he sees advantages of it and whenever he likes it. 'Murder is bad', unless the target is a scumbag or did worse things. He'll tell anyone what they want to hear and talk about them behind their backs as soon as they turn their head. On top of that, he thinks he is obviously better than anyone else and rarely shies from showing it - but he wouldn't use the exact words, only actions, to show is obvious superiority over others. Despite his general talkativeness, Vale doesn't talk about his family - more so to protect them than himself. Often suffers from nightmares, and he distracts himself from them by.. well.. hurting himself. Uses pain to distract himself from stress and ground himself, even if it's a pretty bad mechanism - thankfully he does it only in regards of his mother's death, and no other stressful situations.. which is still not bad, but at least he hadn't spiraled that much.
He often catches himself in a loop when he isn't sure whether or not he genuinely cares about someone or he 'cares' just to use them in the future. While he can try and form a genuine relationship, he is sometimes too cautious for his own good. He still gets confused when people insist he is nice and good and heroic, thought - while it means that the facade is very effective, it simply annoys him. He is more complex than that. And despite training to be a doctor, Vale is rather selective on who to actually help - in his defense, he is only a medicine student, not a full doctor, so it's not like he even have a license. But he would definitely not be a free, 'charity', worker and he doesn't hesitate from showing it.
History:
Valentine was born in Kalos, Shalour City, alongside his twin brother, Fabian. Neither of them remember their mother, as once they could feed on formulas, she left them with their father - Varric. While the custody was fully on him, the single father didn't raise the boys alone, but with two of his closest friends - Heather and Ivor. Heather was a retired top-performer, while Ivor worked in Shalour gym. Varric was working as a guard in Tower of Mastery, making sure that no one tried to break in and steal secrets about Mega Evolution, but that was before the twins went to school. After that, he retired and then found job in the market.
Since they were young, they knew that their mother left and is nowhere to be found. Instead, they were raised by three people, who were close enough to be considered a 'family'. On top of that, Varric and Ivor seemed to form a relationship with each other, while Heather remained single but still as an important part of their group. However both Vale and Ian early noticed that not every person agrees with how their family worked, and both were made fun of it in school.
Fabian dealt with it by violence and beating the bullies, while Valentine stayed more on the side and attempted to bond with other 'outcasts', eventually winning them over with his charm and wits. While his twin continued getting in trouble and nearly got expelled, he was getting better grades and making his way into the more popular circles. While he seemed genuine, he was actually pretending to ever like them and instead use their information or money for his own gains, including getting his brother's revenge for bullying and reporting him to principals. He made many enemies that way, but always managed to get out the trouble with upper hand, either by violence or blackmailing.
None of their caretakers knew about this side of Vale, except for Fabian. While Ian was the 'brawn', Valentine was a mix of both 'brain' and 'brawn', especially after Varric signed them both for self-defense and boxing lessons, that take place near Korrina's gym. He never agreed with twin's teachers and principals about their 'bad behavior' and 'need to be more disciplined', because he believed that it wasn't really boys problem but more so a result of how teachers viewed their family and his sexuality.
By the time he went to high school, Vale knew that he liked boys more than girls, but due to his more 'girly' appearance he was never taken too seriously. Except for his little family, of course. He was focusing more on his school and grades, while still standing strong with his twin and attempting to shoot down anyone who tried to question them or their family. He hold them close and dear to his heart, despite his more deceitful and unclean nature - and tried his damn hardest to keep that side of him hidden from his fathers and honorary aunt. Fabian knew that very well and even if he didn't agree with everything Vale was doing, he understood his reasons - after all, it was his family too and he was never going to let anyone badmouth them or harm.
He first discovered his knack to medicine in middle school, when Fabian was still getting into fights. But instead of letting their family know and worry, they decided to deal with the injuries themselves. It first started with them carry off some medical equipment from nurse's office in school, then after getting familiar with the process and necessities, they were properly buying them.
Then, during high school he participated in a lot of extra courses, mainly those related to work in Pokemon Center, which then led him to volunteer help in human-centred hospitals. He was growing more invested in medicine, much to surprise of his brother and family, who thought that he would probably become a trainer. Fabian wasn't as ambitious and was satisfied with normal studies, and then getting his first Pokemon, while Valentine focused on his new interests. By the time he had to go to college, Vale had to move to Lumiose, where he could study medicine - while his family remained in Shalour.
In completely new place, Valentine made new friends, "friends" and of course, enemies. He never really abandoned his old ways, but in new, big place it was working out better than in place where everyone already knew him. He often exchanged mails and letters with his family, and coming back to Shalour for weekends or longer breaks. He was doing pretty well in his studies and work, until he met a woman named Amber.
She began working on his university as a security guard, but the moment they met, she began actively avoiding him. It striked him as odd, since this was the first time they had met.. technically. She did seemed oddly familiar, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly how. After some time, Vale noticed pretty ominous similarities between Amber and his twin brother. Valentine began 'investigating', asking around about Amber's background and her family, and eventually he dig out a shocking truth - that the was from Shalour and that people from her background believe that she had a 'miscarriage' that led to her breaking up with her ex and leaving the town. Shocked and angered, he eventually managed to get Amber alone and outright question her about her ex and supposed pregnancy. From a stranger POV his behavior seemed illogical, but he needed to know, and seeing from Amber's expression, she realized that she was 'caught'.
She revealed to him that indeed her ex was Varric, and that she lied to her family and friends about the miscarriage, and then purposefully left the twins with their father. She confessed that she felt ashamed of having kids with someone who liked both women and men, and that said kids will 'hold her back' from working. Vale was stunned, angered and even heartbroken by the revelation, but still managed to get it all on the tape that he had hidden, and then threatened to reveal it all to his and her family. Amber tried to stop him from leaving the building, and she caught him on the staircase, where they began struggling. Despite her experience, Vale was younger and years of training payed off, and managed to fend her off - unfortunately, she tripped and fell down the stairs.
Horrified, he realized that she had break her neck and now lied dead at the bottom of the stairs. He rushed down and tried to reanimate her, but with no avail and soon he was forced to call for help. He had lied that Amber attacked him first and that it was an accident - the security camera showed only their struggle and how indeed the woman had attacked him first, after all. After that, he stayed for few days in the dorm, trying to figure out that to do now - he couldn't possibly now message his family about his discovery now, as he felt quite.. guilty for Amber's death. He was mad at her and he maybe, just maybe, had purposefully pulled her leg to trip her and make her fall, but it was his first time actually seeing someone die. Someone who was both so close and so distant from him.
Since then, he began having strange dreams and nightmares, and began hurting himself to distract from the gruesome visions and his own guilt. Thankfully, few weeks later his school year ended and he was technically free - until next time. But feeling trapped and unable to deal with emotions, he decided to resign. He hadn't finished his studies and such he didn't classify as a 'doctor' (maybe a lesser nurse), but he is given a chance to resume from where he stopped, but with different class. Vale didn't mind - he needed a change. He messaged his family about it, but decided against telling them about Amber - especially since her reasons for leaving were.. foul, and would make Varric feel really bad.
With a different plan in mind, Valentine bought a ticked for the closest ferry to Unova and hoped for a change.

Appearance/Physical Description:
Vale is a somewhat tall, young man with a fit, well build and muscular body. Since he was nine, he took both swimming and advanced boxing lessons (plus competitive swimming) that well defined his muscles, but due to his general height, eating habits and build, he doesn't quite look like a bodybuilder or too beefy. He still does have good upper body strength and packs a punch though. From a distance he might not seem so serious however, and it's mainly because of his really long, bright purple hair, that he keeps free majority of the time. His eyes are bright also and blue - the brightness is usually amplified by his contacts.
He likes all forms of clothing, as long it makes him feel good and pretty. Despite everything, he really cares about his appearance and takes a lot of time to make himself look good. He won't shy from makeup or fancy clothes, as long it's well done. He doesn't like 'confusing' people though, and anyone who claims that, will likely be met with his fist.
His body does wear plenty of scars though, most of which were made by his own hands. Unfortunately, it's his currently main way of dealing with stress, and since he studied medicine, he knows way to good how to tend them so the scars they leave won't be so noticeable - unless someone stares carefully and from up close at his arms, only then they might notice them. He also have a long, thin horizontal scar across his throat (from a fight in Castelia), a bit wider one on his wrist, a long one on his right shoulder (both from an assault in Geosenge), a rough looking one on his back (this one was made by his Rufflet by an accident). a big one on his left leg from Carvanha's fangs (he sometimes limps on it, too) and fresh scratches left by his Zoroark on his right forearm.
