Personality:
There are two distinct sides to Alice, the one she shows others, and the one she hides from them. To those she meets, Alice is a kind and thoughtful girl. She is very charismatic and polite, making friends easily out of strangers. She's quick to help others and rarely ever asks for anything in return. All in all, she acts like the perfect young lady. The only hint of what lay beneath is the fact that she will quickly change the subject if it remains on herself for too long. She avoids all talk of her past or anything private, even to those that get close to her. To her friends, she is a sweet mystery.
Now, what you just read above is actually a mere act. Internally, Alice is manipulative and cold. Due to her past she trusts no one, especially adults, and hates seeing or hearing of people with a happy childhood. She can be jealous, cunning, and secretly keeps everyone at an arms length. She never lets them get close to her, not really, because she can never bring herself to trust that they won't abandon her. Perhaps the only person she trusts is her brother, whom shes never actually met, but who she fantasizes about being the perfect brother to her. Her only real goal in life is to meet him and travel with him. However, due to the rumours in Spikemuth, she has come to believe she must prove herself to him first by becoming strong and useful. So, she decided to become a trainer and set off on her own journey, learning all that she can so one day she might be of use to him and get some resemblance of a family back.
Lastly, Alice has quite the temper. She calls it 'The Blackburn Curse', due to her father's own temper and that of her brother's she had heard about. When overwhelmed, Alice can cut you to pieces with her words, and if that isn't enough, she has been known to act out physically as well. She will also never forget if you wrong her, and will be sure to get you back in due time. To her pokemon, she is torn between empathy and a need to be 'tough'. She isn't abusive, per say, but she pushes them a lot harder than your average trainer. Even with her own pokemon, she fears getting attached.
History:
Alice spent most of her early life poor but happy. She was born to a single mother named Leah and learned from an early age never to ask about her father. Leah was kind, but something about that topic made her cold and bitter, a side of her mother that scared her. Their life wasn't perfect, money was hard and her mother struggled with her mental health. As a child, she looked up to an older group of kids in the area. They were cool and wild. They did what they wanted, when they wanted, and despite her mother's warnings Alice soon began to idolize them.
This would take an ironic turn around the time she turned ten. Her mother's mental health at the time was rapidly declining, to the point that Alice feared her temper more often than not, and eventually it all came down to a breaking point. One day her mother's temper flared at Alice for talking about one of the wild boys who had the same odd white hair she had, and in response her mother dragged her out the door and down the street by her arm. She was dragged up to a house at the end of the street and Leah banged on the door. A large man with the same silver hair answered the door, his gaze narrowing at the two on his doorstep.
"I can't do it. She's yours so take her." With that, Leah tossed Alice past the man into his house and stomped away. By the time Alice ran back home her mother was gone, leaving the girl confused and hurt. Reluctantly, she returned to the man's house and knocked on the door. He answered and let her in, though obviously not happy about it. When asked how he knew her mom, she was told Leah had been a fling and nothing more, but also that the man was her father.
Alice had always dreamed of meeting her father, but not like this. She was a stranger in the house, and her father was a bitter and mean old man. She was forced to do all the chores in the house in fear of him hurting her and lived in constant fear. That was, however, the way she found out about the silver haired boy. While cleaning she found a picture album, and wanting to know more about her father's family, she opened it and there he was. A picture of the silver haired boy, about three years of age but recognizable by his oddly colored eyes. Church Blackburn, the picture said on the back. All this time she had looked up to him, and he had been her brother. Feeling oddly kept in the dark all her life, Alice's own temper flared. She stormed up to her father and demanded to know about Church... and that was the first beating she received from her father.
She learned quickly not to speak of Church and lived in miserable silence for five years in that house. Five long years of pent up anger at how she was treated and why everyone kept her in the dark. However she had inherited her mother's temper, and one day she had had enough. She confronted her father about it all, about her mother and about Church. In response, he grabbed her by her hair and dragged her to the door, tossing her out onto the pavement.
"Why don't you go ask him then? I'm tired of looking at your face." With that, he slammed the door, leaving Alice abandoned for the second time in her young life. This time, however, she was on her own.
