Thousands of years ago, the Draconids, a tribe of people that lived with dragon type Pokemon and worshiped Rayquaza as the "Dragon God", lived in the meteor falls in a time when meteors constantly showered the area and Groudon and Kyogre fought. The dragon Rayquaza came from the sky and stopped the two ancient Pokemon from fighting, and after returning to the sky the Draconids devoted their life to Rayquaza. At about a thousand years later, a meteor struck what is now Sootopolis and awakened Kyogre and Groudon once again, and the Draconids prayed for Rayquaza to return to quell their fighting once more. Rayquaza listened to their pleas and returned to the earth, where afterwards the Draconids built the Sky Pillar, one of the tallest structures in the world, in tribute to the Dragon God Rayquaza. There they would use the pillar to summon Rayquaza if they ever needed to do so again, and painted a mural that told the story of a thousand years ago.
