 Melemele Island, while only the third largest island in Alola, it is the location of some of the oldest settlements and most well known places and structures in the region. Many know Melemele as a place of beginning where many young islanders begin their island challenge, but it is actually because of this that Melemele Island is known as ‘The Gathering Place’. The people and Pokemon share their lives together on Melemele, gathered together to live beside one and other, and in the Hau’oli cemetery they have also shared their graves for generations to come. The Hau’oli cemetery is a sacred place for Alola where both humans and Pokemon are buried, where all generations and all walks of life can gather in the heart of Melemele to celebrate life and pay their respects. Alice wandered into the graveyard just as dusk was beginning to take hold. It would probably be a bit yet before it was dark enough for the ghost pokemon to roam, but Alice was willing to wait. As she did so, she took a look around the place, finding it oddly beautiful. Unlike back home, the graves here were well taken care of and clean, with pretty lights that lit up the rows. It looked more like a memorial than a simple 'graveyard', but she was quickly beginning to realize that Alola was nothing like Galar. The people were kinder and soft, which made them easier for her to manipulate. Between that and the beautiful weather, she knew she was going to like it here. For awhile, at least.

As night settled in, the lights of the graveyard took on a hauntingly beautiful feel to them. It was both creepy and relaxing, an odd mixture that Alice wasn't used to. Still, she found she quite liked it here. She wandered along the lit rows and smiled a little as she kept an eye out for any ghost pokemon. Luckily, it took almost no time before she noticed a drifting balloon-like pokemon floating up ahead. It was fast, and it took her a bit to catch up without stepping on any graves, but once she had she was happy to find it was willing to battle her without a fuss.
Lvl 4 Drifloon appeared!

In the end, Alice decided against catching the odd balloon. It was kinda cute, but not really strong-looking at all. No one would take her seriously with a floating balloon. She watched the pokemon flee and smirked, looking down at Nyx approvingly. Despite it's issues with physical touch, it was proving to be a strong pokemon. Better yet, it listened to her without hesitation. She might have somewhat regretted rescuing it in the beginning, but that feeling was quickly fading with each battle. She couldn't wait to see how strong it became under her care!

Her mood improved with the battle, Alice continued to wander the vast graveyard. It amused her a little that most kids her age might be scared of such a place, but to her it was just that, a place. There was nothing scary about a bunch of graves. She didn't believe in those old folk tales of the dead wandering the land of the living, after all, if it were true surely there would be documented proof by now? This was an age of technology after all, there was no way something like that wouldn't have been caught on camera and studied. She smiled proudly, feeling more like an adult than a child as she moved past each row bravely. There was nothing to be scared of.

 As she walked the rows of graves, Alice soon realized Nyx was no longer by her side. Alarmed, she looked around, only to find the Grimbit standing before a grave with an odd expression on it's face.
"What's wrong with you?" Alice spoke up as she approached, causing the Grimbit to jump as if it had been too focused to notice her. Without a sound, the pokemon's tail rose into the air and looked at the grave, it's creepy mouth opening wide. As she watched, a silver light appeared from beside the tombstone and was slowly sucked up by the gaping mouth.
Creeped out yet oddly fascinated, Alice lifted the camera hanging around her neck and crouched, snapping pictures as the light vanished inside the pokemon's tail. As the light disappeared, the tail-mouth snapped shut and returned to it's normal position. Alice had no idea what she had just witnessed, but she did know one thing, there was a good chance it hadn't been documented on before. Meaning, she just might have made her first step to becoming a researcher!

Alice looked through the photos in her camera with a growing sense of pride. It was her first day and already she might have discovered something new! She quickly jotted the info down in her journal and sat down to think of what she had just seen. What was that light? She looked around at the graves and felt an icy shiver run down her back. She pulled out her pokedex and aimed it at Nyx, the loud electronic voice startling her in the silence. "Once mistaken for an Eeveelution, little is known about Grimbit. They are rumoured to collect the souls of the deceased with their tails, some believe in order to consume, while some believe it is to guide said soul to the next life."
Souls. Now that was creepy. So if the light had been a soul, then what had happened to it? She stared at Nyx's tail for a long moment before deciding she wasn't about to make any more discoveries with just her eyes. For now, she added the info to her notes before getting back to her feet. As interesting as the mystery was, she still had an assignment to do.

Alice continued on through the graveyard with her head in the clouds as she reviewed what she had witnessed. She doubted anyone had managed to catch such a thing on camera before, and she couldn't help but grin and coddle the camera as she walked.
"I don't know if you eat them or help them move on, but somehow, I'm going to find out!" She declared, looking down at the Grimbit as it walked along side her. Nyx met her gaze blankly and ed her head to the side as if confused by her trainer's words, but seeing as they had no way to communicate, the Grimbit remained silent.
The moment of silence was broken a moment later as the two heard a cry, and looking ahead, noticed a floating purple pokemon. The pokemon was watching them, apparently ready to fight the two trespassers. Alice couldn't have asked for more.
Lvl 7 Misdreavus appeared!

"What?!" Alice stared in disbelief as Nyx fainted after one shot. She hadn't expected the ghost-type to know a psychic move! Flustered, Alice returned Nyx to her pokeball and glared at the Misdreavus. However, despite her anger she had no choice but to give up and retreat from the graveyard. Thwarted, she headed back along the road leading back towards Route 2. From there she would either retrace her steps to Iki Town or move onward to the city to heal Nyx. Though a part of her was furious they had been taken out so easily.
