 Deep underneath the surface of Kanto, the Rock Tunnel has been developed and is developing still for longer than most people in Kanto can recall. It is a naturally formed and naturally occurring underground tunnel that runs through most of Northeastern Kanto. Because it is not a main fairway of travel however, it has not been modernized or used for other purposes, so it is completely pitch black inside and very difficult to navigate without light, lest you get lost in the darkness like many a trainer before has been victim to. Travelers can make their way through this tunnel from Cerulean City to Lavender Town, and even head north to the region's abandoned power plant, but need to be weary of the many rock and ground type Pokemon that call this tunnel home.

"Yeah, you just go that way and you'll run into one for sure!" The bright and cheery passing Trainer told Kira where she could find an Onix. "Be careful though, I just battled Brock's Onix and it kicked my butt!" Kira grinned, she wasn't exactly worried about being beaten by the Onix, she just needed to find one first.
The large Pokemon was so close, and now she knew where to look. The small group left the passing Trainer to battle an approaching Bellsprout, She recalled Ekans, Aerodactyl, and Drifloon, while allowing Pikachu, Charmeleon, and Lucy to keep up and travel at her side. Charmeleon and Lucy had become good friends over the last few hours, and were walking beside each other, and laughing. Pikachu hopped after Kira's trail.
The entrance to the Rock Tunnel seemed to be inviting them in, and Kira was ready to answer it's challenge. They rushed in and quickly began searching for the next challenge of the waiting Pokemon, and she wondered what other Pokemon were located here. There was only one Pokemon on her mind.
Barely had they entered the cave before they heard the familiar sound of a Zubat's leathery wings, and it flew directly at them! The bat whipped up a flurry of wind, sending a Wing Attack at Pikachu (-20, 90/110). "Alright Pikachu, use Electro Ball!" She ordered, caught off guard.
"Pi..." The attack began to form. "Cha-Pi!" The small yellow Pokemon shot the orb of electricity at the bat, hitting it directly in the chest (-120, 0/110) The Zubat let out a cry of pain as it fell, unconscious. She pulled out enough Potion to fully restore Pikachu's Hp.

With Pikachu's health fully restored, and a second wild Pokemon defeated, the small group set to work exploring the large Rock Tunnel. For now, there was enough light still to see without Charmeleon taking the lead. The small bat Pokemon hadn't been much of a challenge for Pikachu's Electric-Type attack, but Pikachu wasn't going to stand a chance when she ran into an Onix. Lucy knew that she would be needed for that battle, and she was ready at a moment's notice.
She took note of the moss growing lightly in the tunnels, and knew that if something as large as an Onix were hiding right in front of her, it wouldn't be stationary long enough to grow moss. Likewise, if it were moving around, it would have left areas lacking moss.
The sound of a falling rock clattering to the ground sounded not far away, which surprised Pikachu. The small Pokemon sent an electric attack in that direction, which didn't manage to hit any Pokemon, but did manage to send a small group of Zubat fluttering for cover. "Easy, Pikachu. Your attack wouldn't work against most of the Pokemon in here anyway." She tried to comfort the Pokemon, but the Pikachu was quite nervous.

Another Pokemon approached them, threatening to assault them before they even got a good look at it. It's hand shot out, Karate Chopping Pikachu (-40, 70/110). Pikachu was shocked, lunging back as electricity forms at his head (-60, 60/120). Pikachu is pulled back into it's Pokeball, being suddenly replaced by the appearance of Drifloon.
It turned to look at the wild Pokemon in confusion. "It's okay, Drifloon. I need you to use Gust!" The Drifloon trilled out an attack cry, whipping up a gust of wind that hit the Machop for double-damage (-60, 0/120). "Yes, good job Drifloon!" The Mankey had fainted. "We beat a Mankey!" She didn't need the use of her Pokedex, it was a Pokemon she had seen before, back before even the move of her family.
She sent out her Pikachu, restoring it's health with Potion. "You're silly." She grinned, amused by that move.
The monkey and the bat had both been felled by her Pokemon. She wondered what the next wild Pokemon would be.

It was beginning to grow dark. Charmeleon's bright tail lit the way, and they all ate dinner by it's flickering flame. Even Aerodactyl made a cameo, appearing from it's Pokeball and joining the group. The larger fossil-Pokemon even managed to keep away the wild Pokemon just itching for a chance at their food. It's fearsome call scared them all away, which amused Lucy and Charmeleon. Machop was interested in fighting the much larger Pokemon to test it's metal, and Pikachu was still afraid of the giant.
Not long after their meal break, they went at it right back to Rock Tunnel's depths. Again, Charmeleon lead the charge, holding it's tail high up to cast light as far into the cavern as possible. "Alright, step right up, Pokemon of all shapes and sizes. Face our might!" She called out, even though she was looking for one Pokemon, one shape, one size.
She hadn't expected a response, and nearly jumped out of her skin as the Trainer stepped into the shadows. "Boo!" He called out, and Charmeleon sent a blast of Ember at the Trainer's head. He gasped out, falling to the ground with his hands over his head. "Don't attack me, freak! Get that thing under control!"

Kira got angry at the Trainer, approaching him and sticking her finger near his face. "Don't you dare blame Charmeleon, you are the one who scared us!" She wanted to slap the rude boy, but had more restraint than that. Suddenly, the boy was pushed from behind, knocking him on top of her. They both fell to the ground, and Lucy rushed forward to push the boy off and help her Trainer up. The boy ran out of the Rock Tunnel, screaming something about ghosts attacking him. "Now who is the scaredy-cat." She grinned at Riolu, who beamed at how funny the situation had been.
But that still left the curious question of who had attacked the boy Trainer. Nearby stood another Mankey, angrily shouting at them for hurting it's friend. She glanced at Drifloon. She knew it's attack was super effective, but she wanted Pikachu to get more training in. "Alright, Pikachu. Use Electro Ball."
Before Pikachu could attack, the Mankey launched itself forward and twisted sharply into a powerful Karate Chop (-40, 80/120). The small Pikachu readied the electricity at it's tail, twisting sharply and sending the attack at Mankey (-60, 70/130).
Mankey dropped low, kicking Pikachu's abdomen. The Low Kick dealt less damage, but caused Pikachu to double over (-20, 60/120). "One more time!" Pikachu readied an Electro Ball, landing another direct hit (-60, 10/130).
Mankey sent a second Karate Chop into Pikachu's jaw. It fell down, taking longer to rise to it's feet (-40, 20/120). "Pi...ka..." It grunted out in pain as it stood on it's feet yet again. This time, the Pikachu sent one more, one final Electro Ball sailing through the air that Mankey tried to dodge by jumping, but Pikachu's attack had been a little high anyway. It was a direct hit, and Pikachu caused the Mankey to faint.

Kira hurriedly pulled out some Potion, fully restoring Pikachu's health and hugging the mouse-Pokemon close. "You did very well, I'm proud of you." Her kind, happy tones made Pikachu smile. Kira rose to her feet, still holding the Pokemon as she looked around.
"Chuu!" It exclaimed happily, nuzzling the Trainer affectionately. Charmeleon and Lucy were testing their strength against each other, by locking arms and seeing who could move the other back a few steps.
Pikachu and Kira watched them with amusement, enjoying the show of strength. "Alright, everyone. I say we keep looking for that Onix." She grinned at her Pokemon, Pikachu hopping down from Kira's arms and running on ahead. "Whoa, Pikachu! Wait up!" She called out, as Kira, Lucy, and Charmeleon hurried along after it.

They wound up in a new part of Rock Tunnel. She wasn't familiar with her surroundings. Needless to say, the glow of Charmeleon's tail wasn't the most effective. She had trouble seeing, and searching for her small Pokemon was made that much more difficult.
She caught up to her Pikachu, finally figuring out what had caught it's attention and caused it to run off like it did. Pikachu was watching something, squinting into the darkness. It was a Pokemon, and the wild creature wasn't happy to have it's slumber disturbed. Something wasn't right. That much, Pikachu knew. "Don't run off like that..." She muttered, carefully approaching Pikachu.

It was another Zubat, and the Pokemon lunged at Pikachu, using it's Wing Attack (-20, 100/120). Pikachu countered with an Electro Ball (-120, 10/130). Before Zubat could attack back, Pikachu rushed forward at high speeds, slamming into the Zubat and making it faint (-30, 0/130). The Zubat fell to the ground, and didn't stir.
"Good job, Pikachu!" As usual, Kira completely healed her Pikachu using the Potion. "We stomp Zubats!" She gloated, hugging her Pikachu again. This time, she didn't pick the Pokemon up. "But seriously Pikachu, don't run off like that again." She wondered what had made the silent commotion that Pikachu had been attracted to. Apparently the Zubat had scared off another Trainer that was trying to catch it. The Trainer must have dropped their Great Ball, as it had rolled just past the Zubat.
Kira walked over and picked it up, noticing that there was no owner to be seen.

It was time for them to set up camp, Kira couldn't stop yawning and Lucy was insisting that she get some rest. She set the sleeping bag out, crawling into it. Charmeleon curled up, and the two quickly fell asleep. Lucy stood guard by the light of Charmeleon's burning tail.
The next morning came uneventfully, and Kira dolled out bags of Pokemon food before opening one of the many sandwiches her Mother just loved to pack her. By now, she was tired of the bread and filling, but she wouldn't go hungry at least.
They all ate happily, and then Kira watched her Pokemon run around and play. She wasn't as worried about them getting lost today, they weren't running far enough to disappear. "Stay in sight!" She called out, just to be safe.

Their first Pokemon of the day was one that Kira had never seen before. It was a neat looking bipedal Pokemon, and the stance it took made Kira think it was a Fighting-Type. She pulled out her Pokedex, pointing it at the new wild Pokemon. "Who are you..." She mumbled to herself. It didn't attack just yet, but it was ready in case Kira's Pokemon made a move.
-Machop, the Superpower Pokemon. Machop's muscles are special—they never get sore no matter how much they are used in exercise. This Pokémon has sufficient power to hurl a hundred adult humans.-
"That's one powerful Pokemon, and I'm going to catch you!" She looked around at her option of Pokemon. "Pikachu, you're up!" The small Pokemon ran forward, standing against the fighting Pokemon. Machop actually seemed glad to finally have an opponent. It dropped low, sending a Low Kick at Pikachu's abdomen (-20, 100/120). Pikachu grunted out in pain, but countered with an Electro Ball (-60, 70/130).
Machop twisted, using his momentum to hit with a powerful Karate Chop(-40, 60/120). Pikachu used another Electro Ball quickly (-60, 10/130). Without giving Machop the chance to attack again, Pikachu jetted forward in a Quick Attack (-30, 0/130). Kira threw out a Pokeball, which pulled the Pokemon inside. It shook three times, then lay still.
"We caught the Machop!" She exclaimed happily, then quickly set to work healing Pikachu to full health. She knew now that she had to run back into town, and replace one of her Pokemon.

By the time the group made it back into town, and then returned to Rock Tunnel, it was growing slowly later into the evening. The Rock Tunnel's entrance welcomed them back, seemingly engulfing the willing team of five. Her Pokemon were ready and willing, but Kira was growing steadily tired as she walked further and further. Lucy was ever-observant when it came to the Trainer, and she noticed it relatively early. The Trainer wouldn't take a rest when they had come so far, not yet. Not when there was so much more to explore.
"We have to find one soon." Lucy's friendly tones met Kira's psyche.
Kira, however, didn't seem quite as sure as the Pokemon. "At this rate, we'll battle and defeat every Pokemon in here before finding Onix." Lucy knew that the Trainer was a bit frustrated, but it was to be expected.
"If we beat every Pokemon in here..." Began Lucy, smiling in a teasing way. "Then at least we'll know Onix is next." Kira tried to hold back the returning playful smile, but was unsuccessful.

Using her own Pokemon to scare away the less interesting wild Pokemon, it was shortly after that her mission came to a head. She leaned back against the rock wall, rubbing her eyes and yawning when the wall began to move! She jumped away quickly, yelling out in surprise. "What?!" Her eyes followed the wall, which soon turned out to be more than just a wall, it was a Pokemon! It was Onix at that, and she was ready to beat the Pokemon.
Lucy was determined to be the one to step into this battle, taking the lead and standing off against the Onix. The bulky figure rose up high, roaring an angry battle-cry through the tunnel. It was met by the return sound of distant roars, which meant she was on a time limit before other Onix came to this one's rescue.
Lucy ran forward, sending a Force Palm into Onix's bulky body (-100, 20/120). The Onix fell over, crashing heavily into Rock Tunnel's wall and causing the ground to shake as it then fell to the ground. Onix struggled back into an upright position, scooping up a large chunk of the rocky Earth and using Rock Throw (-20, 140/160).
Lucy struck the Earth attack, and broke it apart. A chunk of the resulting debris used the Earth's momentum to carry through and hit Riolu. Lucy and Kira could communicate telepathically, so there was no need for Kira to call out an attack and give away their next move. 'Remember how we used out environment with Brock's Onix.' Kira's determined tones spoke in Lucy's mind. Lucy jumped, using the cave wall to push off, then Onix's body to jump up even higher, and sending a crippling Force Palm into Onix's face (-100, 0/120).
The Onix let out one final roar of pain before falling over, closing it's eyes in unconsciousness. She threw an empty Pokeball, which pulled the large Pokemon inside. The small orb shook three times, before silencing it's motion and sealing. "We did it, we caught Onix!" She called out, spritzing Lucy with Potion. Suddenly, Kira remembered the other Onix as the ground began to shake. She collected her new Pokeball, returned her other Pokemon, and raced Lucy out of the cave both going as fast as they could.

Now weight down by the items a generous courier had brought her from her Mother and Father, Kira changed into a pair of black jeans and a dark green top, moving all of her items and equipment into the new black backpack her Father had included. She pulled her usually long, straight hair back into a pony-tail. Having integrated Onix into her team, Kayla now had to figure out where she wanted to go. A passing Trainer had warned her that the Gym to the South would be too strong for her Pokemon, so she figured the team needed quite a bit more training. That left Rock Tunnel.

It was growing darker and darker outside, and it was even worse within the depths of the Rock Tunnel. She threw out Charmeleon's Pokeball, and smiled at her Starter. "We need you to light our way." Kira smiled, and Charmeleon started off down the beaten path. Her fire kept the wild Pokemon away, Lucy's presence helped with that.
She ran her hands over her new outfit, smoothing it out. "I'm going to need a shower soon." Charmeleon glanced over her shoulder, not caring for the water-related term. Lucy simply nodded and kept up with the others.

There was no sure way to know where the end of the tunnel would be, or where it would take her. All she knew was that it was taking her closer and closer to her next Gym Battle. That excited her, but there was still the matter of training her current Pokemon. The Pokemon in Rock Tunnel weren't strong enough to train her Pokemon quickly. "Alright, Lucy. There it is." Finally they had found the end of the tunnel.
It took a while to get through the tunnel, but the other side revealed that it was still dark outside. Kira returned Charmeleon with a thanks, then Kira and Lucy ran on towards their next destination.

Kira and Lucy had been sitting for over an hour. They were relaxing, eating a small lunch, and discussing their plans for the future when Raichu and Machop came running over. Their arms waved frantically, and they both tried explaining what had happened in their own tongues. "They are saying..." Began Lucy in Kira's mind, still listening in confusion. They were both talking over each other, talking so fast that she was having trouble making it out. "...that something happened to Totodile. Something about an Electrode."
That was all Kira needed to know. Water-Types had a natural weakness to Electric-Types, and Totodile could have been seriously injured. Both Raichu and Machop felt guilty, and they lead the way to where Totodile was laying. Totodile wasn't moving as Kira ran up, pulling the small Pokemon into her arms. "Hang on..." She spritzed a Potion into Totodile's face, but it didn't do much. "We have to get Totodile to the Pokemon Center."
"A City with a Water-Type Gym must surely know how to heal a Water-Type Pokemon." Lucy offered, thinking. "Cerulean is just back through that cave." They nodded at each other and ran out of the Power Plant. Machop's and Lucy's powerful strikes, Raichu's electric attacks made short work of any opposing threat they met on the way out. Shortly after, at a running pace, they all had made it back to the mouth of Rock Tunnel. Neither Kira, nor her friends noticed the two pairs of eyes watching them as they entered the Rock Tunnel. Kira was on a mission, her goal was to get through the tunnel very quickly. They wouldn't be stopping for snacks. They wouldn't be stopping to sleep. They wouldn't be taking the time to rest. Kira carried Totodile in her arms as the Pokeball was still damaged.
Lucy walked beside her, Raichu and Machop had been returned to their Pokeball. The cave-like tunnel was growing darker and darker, the daylight was nearing an end. "We're going to need light..." Supporting Totodile in one arm, she reached her other around and fished in the backpack for a specific Pokeball. "... go, Charmeleon!"
The orange pokemon materialized, casting a flickering light around them. "We need you to light our path, please." She asked. Charmeleon lead the way." Charmeleon nodded, and began walking down the length of the tunnel. Suddenly, a small Pokemon stepped into their path. It was one that Kira had seen before; the family of one of her friends had owned a Cubone back home. The little-tyke looked sad, and lost.
Kira tried approaching the young Pokemon, but it threw it's bone-weapon at her head. She barely manadged to duck out of the way. Lucy stepped between them, huffing angrily at the Cubone. The battle had begun.

The two Pokemon stood facing each other, the battle between the young Ground-Type and the maturing Fighting-Type was under way. Lucy rushed forward, sending a Force Palm attack at Cubone (-50, 80/130). The attack knocked the younger Pokemon over, but it quickly returned to it's feet. Suddenly, Cubone threw the small bone-weapon with pinpoint accuracy. It struck Lucy directly between the eyes, causing her to stumble back (-50, 120/170).
Again the two exchanged attacks. Lucy's Force Palm caused the Cubone to struggle to remain on it's feet (-50, 30/130). Still the Cubone was resilient, whipping the bone with some force at Lucy (-50, 70/170). Lucy deflected the bone-weapon, but it injured her arm in the process. Both Pokemon were weakened now, but Kira didn't want to see this battle go on. Time was a matter they did not have. "Stand back." Kira's thoguhts entered Lucy's mind. Kira whipped a Pokeball at the small Cubone, which pulled the Pokemon inside. It shook once, twice, a third time... but the Pokemon broke free.
Before it was even fully re-materialized, the bone whipped out and struck Lucy in the side of the head (-50, 20/170). She fell to one knee, one eye closed from the injury. "Just rest, this should do it." Again, Kira whipped another Pokeball into the air. It tapped Cubone's skull-mask, and again sucked the Pokemon up inside. This time, the third shake sealed the 'Lonely Pokemon' inside.
She rushed over, storing the Pokeball in her backpack. They hurried to the end of the Tunnel and out into the fresh air. It was beginning to rain, so Kira recalled Charmeleon to the safety of her Pokeball. "Let's hurry, we don't want the storm to pick up before we get back into town."

Elfana Aroway Rock Tunnel was unpleasant compared to the last cave. Elfana needed her Quilava to guide her because of how dark it was. This quickly became a problem as Liandry was too nervous to walk ahead of her trainer. She tried to remain as close to her as possible. "You're okay, Liandry. There's nothing in the dark that can hurt you." She had already taken on a Scyther well above her level. While she had the Type advantage, Elfana still viewed this as an accomplishment. Progress through the tunnel was slow going but her attempts at reassuring the Quilava throughout the cave helped them along. She was willing to walk a little bit further ahead so Elfana could get a better idea of where they were. Liandry ran back to her when they were close to the tunnel's exit. It provided just enough light for Elfana to navigate without tripping over something. She picked up the Quilava after the flames on her back died down. Liandry was the type that thrived when given affection and she didn't mind providing it. "See? You did just fine." She hugged the Quilava before exiting the cave. Lavender Town wasn't too far. They would be able to rest for the night soon.Kanto
