Taking up the entire north eastern part and coast of Akala Island, the Wela Volcano park is one of the most famous places in the Alola Region, and in the world. Unlike places in other parts of the world like Mt. Chimney in Hoenn or Stark Mountain in Sinnoh, the Wela Volcano park is one of the largest pieces of constant volcanic activity in the world. The park and it's volcanoes have never fallen dormant because a series of underwater volcanoes deep within the crust of the island surrounded by sulfuric water levels constantly creates the perfect conditions for a constant flow of volcanic activity. Its easy to tell that this is also one of the most dangerous places in the region, but as the site has become more and more popular, now housing the location for one of the island challenges, the park has become fully developed with a series of guided bridges, paths, and caverns that can safely lead travelers through its depths.
{Wela Volcano Park Gym (Click)}Kiawe is the Trial Captain of Akala Island's Wela Volcano Park. He specializes in Fire-type Pokémon. Kiawe spends most of his time studying traditional dances of the entire of the Alola region with his Alolan Marowak. He spends a lot of time now traveling, learning, and perfecting the traditional dancing now that he was fired from his part-time job. He is seen as a serious person and has been described as more 'gruff' then fellow Trial Captain/Gym Leaders. He is pretty no-nonsense, and doesn't mind beating around the bush. He believes there is a time for fun, and a time for seriousness, and in his gym, or when he's dancing, he believes he needs to be serious. This being said, he is a big believer in everyone doing what makes them happy, even in the past giving one of his Magmar to a man working in Mallow's restaurant so the Pokémon could become a real chef. When he has free time he often spends it with his friends Lana and Mallow. Or even working as a delivery boy with his Charizard. When a challenger visits his gym, he often pushes them to take a dance lesson to learn one of the Alola traditional dances with his Marowak. He is happy to teach any trainer or Pokémon that has come to challenge him.
His Gym sits at the top of the Wela Volcano park. There are long pathways through and around the volcano to lead all the way up the mountains. It is actually a local hot spot, literally, for hikers, cyclists, and those looking for a physical challenge. As a Challenger makes their hike up the water, they'll encounter all of them Totem Pokémon along the way. They don't belong to Kiawe, and live in the Park, so they go about their days along the path. Once a challenger makes their way all the way to the top they will find a large stage. Unlike his previous Leaders, Kiawe allowed his 'Gym' to be enhanced, but only for the safety of the battlers. Kiawe's gym is build as a large dance stage he practices and holds ceremonies. The battle field is made of carved stones that sits a about a yard from the opening of the Volcano. Since the Volcano is active, the top has pathways leading out the side for lava just in case for everyone's safety. The stone field is large and flat, making it fairly versatile how ever it is very hot.
