Violet City

            The nursery was not large but was set up nicely. It was nestled between a building to the south and what appeared to be someone's estate to the north. The entrance was a large wooden frame with grass type pokemon engravings on it. From the entrance, one could see the entire lot which the nursery was on. In the center was a decent-sized water fountain with a small house behind it, presumably for the nursery's trinkets and checkout.

When Lirio and Amaryllis arrived, they were greeted by a couple of the workers. The male was the shorter of the two and had a Vileplume with him. Next to him was a taller female worker with a Bellossom next to her. The two were dressed in simple outdoorsy clothing for gardening. “Why hello there! Welcome to our humble nursery! I am Florina and this is my husband Logan.”

Logan walked up and shook Lirio’s hand. “This here’s the Timberland Nursery. It ain’t much, but it is what we got. You’re our first customer of the day. Why is a youngster like yourself up so early?”

“Dear! Don’t be so upfront with the customer! I apologize for my husband’s behavior.” Florina said embarrassed by her husband’s actions.

“Oh, no, it is alright. I came here as recommended by someone in town. I love plants and bugs and I thought it would be nice to bring my Chikorita here to this nursery for her to see. You all have a lovely place! Also, I am used to waking up at sunrise. While not necessary for our line of plant work, my family does a lot with plants. My mother is an apothecary and my father is a landscape designer. I am Lirio.”

“Well, I’ll be! You must know a lot about plants with parents like those!” Logan Timberland said a bit in shock by Lirio’s background.

“Lirio, was it? You wouldn’t happen to know a Lily and Eden Mushikaze, would you?” Florina Timberland inquired to Lirio.

“Actually, yes, they are my parents,” Lirio said a bit surprised to meet people who knew their names, although, in the field of horticulture, that should come as less of a surprise.

“You don’t mean the Mushikazes, do ya?” Logan said his mouth visibly open in awe.

“Yes, the ones of Azalea Town,” Lirio replied, trying to sound humble.

“Wow! We are honored to have you at our humble business! We would sometimes provide plants for Mr. Mushikaze’s work when he did consulting in town. It was always a pleasure to hear when he complimented us on the quality of our stock.”

“Say, Lirio, if you aren’t too busy, why don’t you help us here a bit? We are a bit short on hands here and would ‘ppreciate any tips you’d have for us.”

It was at the sound of the word help that Amaryllis perked up a bit. She knew that meant a PokeJob of some kind and was eager to help. She jumped in between Lirio and the Timberlands and made an audible sound of approval while nodding her head. “Well, if this is what Amaryllis wants to do, I suppose I have no other choice. I would be glad to help.”

“Wonderful! If you’d just come with us, we can show you around and let you know what we need help with!” Florina said as she turned around and began walking towards the center of the nursery.

        Lirio began by surveying the area around the fountain in greater detail, planning out what kind of plants he wanted as he went. After doing this, he and Amaryllis looked around the nursery to see what they had to work with. Despite the size of the nursery, there was quite a variety of plants there that were taken care of quite well. There were many beautiful Roselia flowers of different varieties, budding Petililies, and even Kanan’s favorite Argiates in full bloom as well. As far as larger plants went, there was also quite the variety, including decent-sized Torterroaks, Sceptail bushes, and Eldefluffs.

After Lirio and Amaryllis surveyed the nursery, he decided to do things a bit more unconventional. He turned to Amaryllis and said, “Okay, I want you to pick the main plant we are going to put the other plants around. Something spectacular that you like a lot, okay?”

She nodded with determination and set out to find the plant. Based on the way that she turned and walked in a specific direction of the nursery let Lirio know she already knew what plant to choose. After walking to a corner of the nursery, Amaryllis stopped and gestured towards a rather tall plant with many large, pink flowers with white rims on them. It should have been obvious to Lirio that Amaryllis would choose the plant resembling her final evolution Meganium. “Ah, yes, a beautiful Ama megania plant! That would be perfect near the fountain. Although, I am not sure if they’d let us use it… Let’s move it near the fountain first before we decide on more plants.”

Amaryllis was happy to hear that Lirio liked her chosen plant and followed him back to the fountain as he carefully carried it over to it. Florina noticed him moving the plant and came over when he set it down. “Ah, I see you found one of our Megani Herbs! They are quite lovely, aren’t they? I can tell this will look amazing once you are done!”

The Pokemon of the nursery owners appeared and showed Lirio and Amaryllis to a spot on the far end of the yard. Once they reached their destination, the two leading Pokemon stopped and gestured to an area with a few, rather large, potted plants. Unfortunately, the plants did not appear to be doing well at all. Lirio and Amaryllis took a closer look at the plants. It didn’t take long for Lirio to recognize the plants from his previous readings. To him, they appeared to be Querma phantasma or Trevenant Oaks. 

While the plants are known for being sparsely leaved on most of it, these ones clearly had something wrong. The wood had begun to take on a white-ish color and the leaves had a red hue to them, unlike the normal dark-colored wood and deep green foliage they are supposed to have. It took Lirio a moment to remember something he had read about these trees originally from Kalos. After a brief moment of thinking, he decided to feel the soil in the pots. As suspected, it was quite dry, confirming his suspicions. He then called to Amaryllis who was also inspecting the plant and told her he knew what was wrong with the plant. Upon overhearing this, the Timberland’s Bellossom and Vileplume cheered and left Lirio and Amaryllis, presumably to find the Timberlands.

To Lirio’s dismay, he did not find Skylar in the lobby. When he asked Nurse Joy if she had seen the young man, she said she had not. Lirio would have gone up to Skylar’s room to see if he was still sleeping but failed to ask which one he was staying in before going to bed. Mildly disappointed in himself, Lirio tried not to let it get him down and turned to Amaryllis, “Well, I guess we should just continue to train for now. I think heading back to Sprout Tower would be a good idea to train up for our battle with Falkner. Plus, we can see Monk Konoha again while we are there!”

Amaryllis smiled and let out a sound of approval. Lirio pulled out some barries for them to eat first before they started to head out. However, after taking a few steps, Lirio stopped suddenly as he remembered there was something he wanted to do at the Pokemon Center. “Ah, wait, I forgot that I wanted to use this to help one of you all learn a move,” Lirio said aloud as he pulled out the heart scale Florina gave him at the nursery, “It can be used as payment to teach you all a move that typically has to be taught by humans to Pokemon.”

Lirio sent out Kanan from its Pokeball and explained that he wanted to have the tutor man of the Pokemon Center teach it a new, strong move. Kanan was rather hesitant at first, but when Lirio explained that the man already helped Amaryllis and Goji learn moves, along with some prodding from Amaryllis, the Pokemon agreed to learn the move. The three of them went up to the tutor man’s counter. “Ah, back already? What can I do for you all this time?”

“I would like for you to teach my Ledyba Thunder Punch in exchange for this heart scale, please,” Lirio requested, handing the man the heart scale.

“Ah, yes, if your Ledyba would come with me, it shouldn’t take long to teach your Ledyba the move. It looks rather bright.”

Kanan cautiously flew to the record room with the tutor man. The two returned after a couple of minutes and Kanan seemed pleased with itself. “How did it go, Kanan?”

The Pokemon replied with a happy buzz. “Okay, now we can go to Sprout Tower!”

Lirio, Amaryllis, and Kanan left the Pokemon Center and made the trek to Sprout Tower.

When light broke through the window, the two woke up to begin their day. Lirio gazed at his Pokeballs on the nightstand next to the bed. He was curious about his new companion but considered that it might be too risky to release the Pokemon from its Pokeball inside the Pokemon Center at this time. He got himself ready for the day before calling to Oakland to leave the room.

The two left the Pokemon Center and walked a bit down the street to a nearby park before Lirio thought it would be safe to release the Gastly from its Pokeball. Before doing so, he also released Amaryllis and Kanan from their Pokeballs since the three of them were the first Pokemon of Lirio the Gastly encountered. Lirio thought this might make the change of scenery less shocking along with being set up to defend themselves should the Gastly decide to attack again. “Let’s greet our new friend!” Lirio said, trying to hide his ulterior plans should the encounter not be so peaceful.

The ghostly gas Pokemon emerged from the Pokeball a few feet away from Lirio. At first, it floated in place for a moment. Suddenly, its face appeared through the dense gas and panic was plainly visible on it. The Gastly began to look around frantically. “Uh, it is okay. We are in the city near Sprout Tower called Violet City. We brought you to the Pokemon Center and got you healed up after our battle.”

The Gastly still had a look of worry on its face, but seemed to have calmed down a little bit. Lirio did notice though that its gas trail dd down like hair rather than following behind it like most other Gastly. “Were you perhaps worried about the well? Were you trying to protect it?”

At saying this, the Gastly immediately turned towards Lirio and frantically nodded its head. Lirio then knew they had to go back to the well. “Okay, we can go back there! Don’t worry. I don’t think anyone will find it since we only found it from your whispers the last time. Even so, we should probably start heading over now.”

This seemed to give the Gastly some relief. Lirio, Gastly, and Lirio’s other Pokemon all began walking back toward Sprout Tower.

Lirio walked back into Violet City, a bit saddened at the departure of Sadako, but was finding solace in the idea that they would see each other again. He knew he should go to the gym to battle Falkner, but considering the tough battle with Elder Li this morning, he thought it would be best for him and his team to rest up for the day. As such, Lirio decided he would go to the Pokemon Center to get his Pokemon healed then stop by Breakfast A-La-Mode for a treat for everyone afterward.

It didn’t take long for Lirio to get to the Pokemon Center from Sprout Tower as he was more familiar with the ley of the land of Violet City by now. Upon entering, he was greeted by Nurse Joy, to whom Lirio handed his Pokemon to have them healed. “Of course! I shall have them healed up right away. Did you all need breakfast as well? If so, one of the other Pokemon Center helpers would be glad to help you all get some food,” Nurse Joy responded in her usual cheery voice before taking Lirio’s Pokemon to the back of the Center.

Lirio looked around for a moment before noticing a young, female helper nearby jotting notes on a clipboard with paper. He went up to her and asked, “Excuse me, would you be able to help get some food for my Pokemon? We just came from Sprout Tower after a tough battle this morning and haven’t eaten yet.”

“Why of course! I would be glad to help! What kind of Pokemon do you have so I can know what food to grab?”

“They are mostly bug and grass types, with a water type and ghost type also in the mix.”

“Ah, great! I’ll go fetch some food for you all now. Also, I hope you all won your battle!” The young lady said just as cheerfully as Nurse Joy before leaving to the back of the Center.

Lirio waited for the helper to return with the food. In the meantime, he decided it would be a good idea for him to call his parents and went to one of the public video call machines. “Good morning, Lirio! How have you been? Are you eating? Getting enough rest?” His mother started off the call with her bubbly personality showing through.

“I am doing fine, mom. Eating and resting as I should of course. I left Sprout Tower earlier today. I got to see Monk Konoha and Elder Li. They say hello,” Lirio replied, being caught a bit off guard by his mother at first.

“Oh? I haven’t seen them in a while. Maybe I should visit them sometime soon… I’m assuming you also fought the sages as well?”

“Yes. It was difficult at times, but my team definitely pulled through. Speaking of which, a few of my Pokemon have evolved since we last spoke!”

“Oh! That is good to hear! You all are growing up so fast. Aster and Papilio have been fun to have around the house. Are you planning to send over any more of your Pokemon to us?”

“As a matter of fact, yes. I wanted to send Calla, my Sewaddle, to stay with you all for a bit. I will probably pick her up when I leave from Azalea Town. Would that be okay?”

“Why, of course! We always welcome you and your friends! Your dad had to leave early to attend to something in town, but I will let him know you called. We’ll make sure to take good care of Calla for you!”

“Thanks, mom!” Lirio replied.

Lirio felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around. It was Nurse Joy and the helper from earlier. He gestured to them to give him just one more moment and turned back around to finish his conversation. “Okay. I have to go. My Pokemon have been healed and our food is ready. I’m sending Calla over now. Bye!”

“Goodbye! I’ll see you when you get into town!”

Lirio hung up the call and addressed Nurse Joy and her helper. “Sorry about that. I was talking to my mother.”

“Oh, no worries. We just wanted to let you know that everything is ready. The Pokemon you left for me to heal are already eating in the dining area. The food for you and your other Pokemon are already there as well,” Nurse Joy said politely.

“I’ll lead you to the dining area!” Her helper said as she began to walk towards a different part of the Pokemon Center while Nurse Joy left to attend to the front desk again.

Specific Lure

Lirio woke up at his usual time of sunrise and began to get ready for the day. Only Kanan was out of his Pokeball as Lirio used a heart scale to teach him Thunder Punch the night before. As Lirio was getting ready, Kanan slowly began to wake up. Lirio stepped out of the bathroom of the suite he reserved for the night at the Pokemon Center. “You ready to battle Falkner, Kanan?”

Kanan responded with a resounding buzz of excitement. “Alright! Let’s get the last things packed and head out!” Lirio responded to Kanan.

Lirio and Kanan left the room and the Pokemon Center and headed straight towards the Violet City Gym. When Lirio arrived and walked through the entrance with Kanan, he saw how the inside of the building was relatively hollow. It had a large platform that seemed to be able to move up and down within the building along with peg-like spiral stairs along the wall. There were also numerous nest boxes for bird Pokemon. Lirio was greeted by a gentleman at the entrance. He explained that the first battle would take place on the ground level while the battle with Falkner would take place on the rook of the building. The platform seemed to be used in more intense battles that weren’t one’s first gym badge battle. He was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t going to be utilized. “Whenever you are ready, you may select your first Pokemon and move forward towards your first opponent.”

Lirio nodded to Kanan before the two walked forward towards the first trainer of the gym. “Greetings, trainer! My name is, um, Abe! I shall be your first opponent, er… Are you ready to battle? (Great… Now he knows I am new to the gym too…)” The young opponent said, trying to hide the last part under his breath.

Lirio felt a bit awkward by his opponent’s lack of confidence and wasn’t sure how to respond at first. “Yes? Kanan and I are ready to battle!”

“Oh! A bug type! This should be easy! Go, Spearow!” The lad said a loud.

Lirio became noticeably annoyed at the second comment and nodded to Kanan again who knew what to do. The bug Pokemon flew forward rather quickly and landed a Thunder Punch attack on the enemy Spearow, defeating it in one hit.

“Please, do not underestimate bug Pokemon…” Lirio said once Kanan had knocked out the Spearow, letting out a deep breath trying to relax once more before walking up the spiral stairs to the roof with Kanan.

The greeter from the door suddenly appeared and announced that the battle was over and that Lirio had won before telling him he and his Pokemon could move on to the roof to challenge Falkner. Lirio bowed to the referee before beginning the climb to the roof. The young lad was left disappointed in himself, “Man…. I can’t catch a break….”

Lirio was, admittedly, not in a good mood after the comment made by the first trainer of the Violet City gym. He tried to calm down a bit, but people disrespecting bug Pokemon was something he never took lightly. The y smirk Falkner had when he looked at Kanan did not help improve Lirio’s mood, in fact, it made him just as upset as he was before. “We don’t deserve this disrespect, Kanan. Let’s wrap this up quickly. Use Thunder Punch!”

Lirio commanded Kanan coldly, which caught Kanan off guard at first, but he knew that Lirio knew best and did as commanded, once again knocking out the enemy bird Pokemon in one hit.
