Elfy Leader FalknerFalkner as surprised by the Arcanine. Granted it wasn't every day he got to battle a Sobble, or an Abra, but the Arcanine was surprising to the Gym Leader. This young trainer was going to have a very interesting team, and pretty well rounded. Faulkner was impressed. Or maybe he was just thankful to not have to battle a Cyndaquil, Totodile, or Chikorita. He returned his beloved Pidgeotto and began to walk across the open area. Despite his loss, he didn't seem to be upset at the young woman. He gave her a friendly smirk as he ran his fingers through his hair, almost flirtatiously. But that may just come naturally to the young Gym Leader. "That was an interesting battle." He complimented and looked to her Pokemon. "But I would warn you, you might not want to go onto the battle field during a battle. Some gym leaders might see that as a forfeit, as well as some Pokemon are hostile, and I would hate for you to get hurt." Faulkner warned. He wasn't exactly scolding, but just warning her. His Pokemon were pretty careful, so he wasn't too worried that she ran onto the field. But it would have been a whole other story if he was Whitney or Claire. "That being said, you definitely earned your first Badge" He told her, and held out the badge with a friendly smile. After getting herself together, she thanked Falkner again both for the badge and the advice. The gym battle marked the end of their time in Violet City. As soon as they were out of the gym, she climbed on to Slate's back and let him pick their next destination. As fun as the battle had been, she was in no rush to get to the next gym. At last Lucas made it through the Route 31 passageway, Pokemon in hand, shoulder, and bag. He shook off some of the leaves and webbing stuck to his coat and hair before stepping into the street of Violet City. Quickly, he made his way to the Pokemon Center to rest his legs and team for a bit. While waiting for the nurse to finish taking care of his team, Lucas updated his journal and summarized his journey thus far. He noted that there were a lot of bug catchers these days and had accidentally gotten in the range of a Caterpie’s string shot, which is why he was covered in webbing. He picked off some pieces of dried web off his clothes as he sat on the bench and remembered when this happened back at home. Occasionally he would get covered in some mud, sand, water, even sludge during the course of battles or by stumbling in the middle of one by accident. His roommates knew this pretty well with how often he’d come home and zoom through the halls to get to the shower, leaving a trail of whatever was on him behind. Sometimes he wondered why they put up with him, especially… well there was a bit of bias there, Lucas was sure of that. He pulled out his phone and sent a quick message asking how they were doing since he left. Before a response came, the nurse called for him to pick up his Pokemon, and he slipped the phone back in his bag.
Lucas picked up the Pokeballs from the counter and left the building. Once outside, he found a bench to sit on and let out his team to check in on them. Rita was the first, of course, and she immediately leapt onto the bench to join Lucas. After that was Ves, who Lucas picked up and put next to Rita on the bench. Last was Candy, who sat in Lucas’s legs, which admittedly was not the most comfortable, but Lucas stayed strong for the little turtle’s comfort. Rita looked around with a bright smile and took in the new sights. Ves was chittering excitedly to match her energy. Candy resolved to staying in Lucas’s lap, but still let the others know she was also thrilled to be in a new place. Lucas wanted to match their energy, but the amount of things he did today started to weigh on him, and he felt fatigue start to set in. When he was a child, he would’ve stayed up for ages just for a chance to spend time with his Pokemon. Now, however, he found the amount of energy he had to be lower. He was still excited, and wanted to explore, but his body was fighting him and trying to pull him down.
The sky was starting to darken and the sun was setting. The bright oranges and yellows from the afternoon sky were fading. Lucas wasn’t moving very much, and Rita noticed this. She nudged her face into Lucas’s arm to get his attention and gave a worried expression. Lucas straightened up a little and pat her head, trying to reassure her that he was okay with a smile. His eyes, on the other hand, looked like they were sagging. His movements were slower. Rita decided that her friend needed rest and started to nudge him off the bench. Lucas scooped Candy in his arms before standing up and looked to Rita, who stood in his spot on the bench and nodded her head to the Pokemon Center.
“I just took you there, why do you want to go back?” Lucas asked. Rita shook her head. Candy, picking up what Rita was trying to communicate, looked up at Lucas and tried to motion her head towards him and then towards the Pokemon Center. “Oh, you want me to go there?” Ves made an affirming noise, deciding to join in on the conversation. Lucas laughed sheepishly, “I guess I could use some sleep, but you all are so energetic, won’t you get bored?” Rita shook her head and gave Lucas a look as if he had way too much audacity to ask such a question in the first place. “Well, if all of you agree, I guess I have to listen. Come on then,” Lucas said before taking out the team’s Pokeballs. He then called back each of his Pokemon before putting the balls back in his bag. “I’ll let you all out in the room once I get inside.” He then got up and made his way to the Pokemon Center.
Once Lucas got to the Pokemon Center, he asked for a room to stay in while he was in town, got a key, and went to his appointed room. It wasn’t a large room, but it had enough room and furniture to live comfortably for a short amount of time. Once he had set his bag down, he let his Pokemon out of their balls so they could explore the room. Rita and Ves looked around curiously, with Rita exploring every nook and cranny. Candy hung back, finding the environment mildly familiar. She didn’t feel a need to explore, and a glimmer of fear passed over her eyes. Lucas caught onto this quickly and knelt down to pet her, reassuring her that she was safe here and with her new friends. Candy looked up at Lucas and seemed to cheer up a little, but was still guarded. She tried to crawl under the bed, thinking that was where she belonged. Lucas noted to himself that it was odd, and he’d have to take some time to understand that later. He went through his bag and pulled out his blanket and one of the pillows from the bed and made a makeshift nest for all three of his Pokemon near where he slept. He’d figure out something better later. He patted the pillow and looked to Candy as an effort to encourage her to come out from under the bed. She looked to Lucas and at the blanket nest. She didn’t move, but she looked a bit more relaxed. Rita, catching onto the idea, helped Ves into the nest and took her own place. Lucas went to the room’s bathroom to change and freshen up. While he was gone, Candy slowly stepped out from under the bed. She made her way to the nest one step at a time, making sure that her friends were okay with her approach. Rita and Ves chirped encouragingly to her, making her relax her tense stance some more. She eventually settled into her own space, seeming to be much more comfortable in comparison to the space under the bed. Candy was safe, warm, and most of all, happy. She was so cozy that she quickly fell asleep despite the energy shared by her companions.
By the time Lucas came out of the bathroom, Candy was fast asleep and Rita was playing a sort of quiet came with Ves where Rita had to guess what emotion Ves was feeling and mimic the expression she thought he’d express. It was very amusing to Ves to see the funny faces, and Rita had fun guessing what Ves was thinking. Lucas smiled at the trio before adjusting the lighting to be dim enough for him to sleep but bright enough for Ves and Rita to see each other. He then crawled into bed and quickly fell asleep.
