One of the few towns in the Hoenn region that is completely land locked, Verdanturf Town sits at the base of the mountains that make up for most of central Hoenn. Despite not having access to the ocean or many other water ways like the majority of the region, Verdanturf town makes up for this fact in it's rather luxurious lifestyle. Because of it's position at the base of the mountains and it's central location in the mainland where the air currents are some of the most powerful, Verdanturf Town is actually and always completely free of any volcanic ash that comes from Mt. Chimney and the other volcanic mountains around. Because of this, the air here is some of the most fresh and clean in the entire region which makes for a very healthy place to live.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Ask anybody, and they'll tell you that all good things eventually come to an end. This too was the case with Katie's pleasant walk through the Hoenn countryside. She realized the closer she got that she was walking towards the base of a mountain. Surely the next town would be nestled there, waiting for visitors in the shadow of the towering structures. She hadn't seen any signs telling her to turn off or go in another direction. That didn't mean she wasn't lost, she was just able to convince herself that she wasn't being stupid right now. She'd done enough of that lately. Her Pokemon were growing both spiritually and physically stronger, but she didn't feel she was. In fact she felt like she was failing her Pokemon by not being the sort of Trainer they deserved. She wasn't strong, or talented at this. She was blundering through this whole 'Trainer' game. It was only because of blind luck that she hadn't gotten herself killed, and Arceus only knew how she managed to scratch and claw her way through that last battle with a Gym Leader. Wattson had been tough, and had driven her and her team to their limits. It all seemed like a blur - even now she wasn't sure how they had done it. She looked at her Pokemon and thought as she walked, and before she knew it she had come upon the small town of Verdanturf (Who in their right mind names a town Verdanturf? Sounds like an illness.)

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Verdanturf was a quiet and peaceful little town. Katie rather thought she enjoyed it. The air was clean, crisp, and cool. The people seemed friendly and genuinely pleased to see her. Even the Pokemon seemed to coexist with the Humans who had settled in the area. It was most accurately a community. She could imagine herself settling down here and growing old while remaining hidden, but knew she could never do it. For many reasons, but most important being that she could never live a lifetime this far away from the sea. Now, present her with her own private island and she'd be willing to negotiate. As for now... sure, there was a Contest Hall and a Pokemon Daycare nearby (baby Pokemon?! Adorable!) but there wasn't a Gym. She believed herself subpar as a Trainer, but still longed for the challenge of another Gym Battle. It was strange - she didn't like it, but wanted to fit in now more than ever.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ Ah, how wonderful it was to be inside the Town's Pokemon Center and resting. It wasn't a large Center. There were less rooms here than usual, and they were all filled, but she wasn't here to stay anyway. She wanted to move on. Someone got her attention when they called loudly. "Hey, you! We need one more person for this tournament! It's nothing big, we will battle each other at random. If you win, you move onto the second round and battle the winner of the other side." Katie stared at him, and perhaps he got the feeling she wanted to leave because he tried again. "Wait, the winner gets a cool prize... we have a Pokeball sitting here on the counter, and it has a very special Pokemon in it - one of a kind actually."
Well, this certainly got her attention. A one of a kind Pokemon for a prize? Really, what did she have to lose? "Yeah... alright then." She shrugged, nodded, and walked over to the three guys.
Two of them walked out back to battle, which left Katie and the guy who had called over to her. "Guess that leaves you and me! Good luck, I'm pretty good." Katie could tell he was bragging, but that he was doing it to be silly. He wasn't actually that sort of y and arrogant jackass she had grown used to over the last year. She followed him out back, to see the other two already deep in the action of a Pokemon battle. She noted that they both had a single type and hoped it wouldn't matter that she did not.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ The guy who had called out to her and invited her into this mini-tournament was standing across from her, staring her down as though he had just received the best luck in the world. It could not have been more clear from the look on his face that he believed he had just been given an easy advancement onto the next round. Well wasn't that just too bad for him. Katie wasn't the sort to go looking for a fight, but never again was she just going to roll over and show her belly to the big bad wolf growling down at her. And sure it wasn't that serious of a situation now, but she wasn't going to back down now that he had practically dragged her into this. Besides, there was the promise of that one-of-a-kind Pokemon to keep her interest.
"Let's see how you do against my team. I train my Dragons until they are mighty beasts!" Dragons?! This was a Dragon Tamer, then? She had heard of them, but there weren't any where she came from. She had never even seen one in person. Hastily she tried to remember what types would give her the advantage over this Trainer's team of Dragons. They were weak against their own type, but she didn't have any dragons of her own. They were weak against Ice-Type attacks, she knew. Then they were weak against Fairy-Type Pokemon, but there again lay the problem of her not having any Fairy-Type Pokemon. Besides, Fairies were historically more terrifying than any ghost could be. His first Pokemon was a Noibat, and Katies was her sweet little cuddly otter; Buizel. "Noibat, use Air Cutter like we practiced!"
Noibat was fast, faster than her Buizel by far. The otter could barely keep track of the flittering bat as it flew through the air. Stopping behind Buizel, Noibat sent a slash of wind that struck her Pokemon in the back. "No, Buizel!" She shouted, hands flying to her mouth. "Come on, get up!" She pleaded, and Buizel rose painfully. Noibat began to move fast again, but Katie had an idea. "Make a Blizzard, it's an area attack. It's bound to hit!" Sure enough, Noibat fell from the sky just before it could strike, unable to battle. Buizel and Katie smiled at one another, and she recalled the otter. It had done an amazing job, and had earned a rest.
"Altaria!" The enemy shouted, throwing out a Pokeball. She hastily let out her own Pokemon, but he hadn't stopped talking. "Use Take Down!" As soon as both Pokemon were on the field, the speedy dragon slammed bodily into Katie's Aipom. Aipom?! She hadn't even realized who she was sending out, as the enemy's rushing of her had thrown her off balance. The types didn't match up at all, and she was starting to worry she had just cost herself the battle when she remembered something. Aipom had another skill, one that was not common with other Aipom. It looked back at her, and she nodded. It had been decided. Aipom gathered the storm clouds overhead while the Altaria was distracted by it's own recoil damage. Before they could attack again, the lightning crashed from the sky and struck directly on top of Altaria's fluffy body.
Just like the Noibat before it, Altaria was unable to battle after a single blow. "Damn!" He shouted angrily. "Don't think you've gotten off easy, because now it's time for my ace in the hole. Go Dragonite!" The Pokemon appeared from the Pokeball and roared at Katie. Her eyes went wide, and he seemed to take her reaction as a good thing. "Yeah, Dragonite and I are unstoppable!"
She recalled Aipom and sent out Emolga. She was hoping the smaller Pokemon would be able to out-maneuver the giant dragon, but no luck. It slammed into Emolga with blinding speed. Contact with Emolga paralyzed the dragon, but it was still too fast. It slammed into Emolga and, just like that, Emolga was out of the battle. "You did great, get some rest okay?" She recalled her Pokemon and sent out Luxio next.
Luxio squared off with the Dragonite, but it was painfully obvious how out-powered Luxio was. The pair lunged at each other, striking at exactly the same moment with slam and spark. When they settled, facing the opposite trainer, Luxio fell over and Dragonite roared triumphantly. This thing was going to sweep her entire team! She wasn't sure what she could do now. As she returned her Pokemon to the Pokeball, she wracked her brain for a strategy that might get her out of this.
She wasn't going to out-speed that thing, but maybe... if she could choose a Pokemon that would survive a hit, she could hit back with something super effective? She decided, and sent out Aron. Aron looked from the Trainer to the enemy Pokemon and shouted it's displeasure at the situation. It hadn't wanted to battle right now! In fact he had been in the middle of a wonderful nap and dream about yummy berries being fed to him by a pretty Gardevoir. Aron decided to end this so as to return to his nap. Dragonite charged, but Aron dodged and then lunged himself. As Dragonite stopped himself and turned around to find the enemy, Aron was already slamming into his ribs. Dragonite went down for the count, unable to breathe and unable to fight. Katie had actually done it! She had won!

Katie Du'Mont♪ My Bartender she's from the islands, her body's been kissed by the sun. Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ "Whoa, I just got flattened!" He called, shocked and amused. "By a girl... no offense!" He corrected himself quickly as he saw the looks from Katie, and his two buddies. Seeming to decide that he should stop while he was behind, the guy rubbed the back of his neck and muttered; "Let's go heal our Pokemon." Katie liked that idea, and all four of them went inside to have the Nurses look after their Pokemon. While they waited, they talked. Each of these three Trainers apparently specialized in a single Type of Pokemon. She had battled the Dragon Trainer, but the others weren't being so forthcoming about their types. She hadn't actually seen their battle, being so wrapped up in her own. Apparently they wanted it to be a surprise.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ With their Pokemon healed, the four Trainers returned to the battlefield beside the Pokemon Center. Katie eyed the other two. She wasn't sure who her opponent would be or what type of Pokemon they would have. Finally the one called Axel walked across the field and took the place opposite her. "Be careful, she's a hell of a lot tougher than she looks!" Katie looked at who had spoken, recognizing the voice of the guy she had already battled.
Axel nodded, reaching into a pocket and pulling out a Pokeball. "You may have beaten him, but that prize is mine." He said, smirking and sending Marill out onto the field. Katie countered by sending out Aipom. The monkey blinked in the sunlight. It was in another battle already? Jeez. Oh well, there was no use crying over spilled Moomoo Milk. "Be careful, Marill. That thing can use Thunder." She could have smacked herself in the head for not paying more attention to their battle. They had obviously been able to focus on both battles at once, so why hadn't she!?
Marill bounced a couple times, then steadied itself and used Hydro Pump. The intense jet of water hit just as Aipom released the Thunder attack from the sky. As Marill had been steadied and involved in a lengthy attack, it could not react quickly enough to get out of the way. The first victory went to Katie.
He raised an eyebrow, but returned his Pokemon. "Fine. Shiinotic, you're up." He threw out another Pokeball and the Pokemon emerged, energized and ready for battle. Katie had an idea, but it would be risky. She sent out Buizel. The Water-Type knew the sort of disadvantage she had, and so did Katie. Shiinotic were native to her own Region of Alola, and they were part Grass-Type. As expected, Shiinotic's first Grass-Type attack did a lot of damage. Buizel looked about ready to fall over as the mushroom absorbed his energy. Katie shouted for him to use Blizzard, and at once he snapped his attention back onto the enemy and whipped up a mighty Blizzard. Just like with Marill, Shiinotic went down in a single hit and Buizel was victorious.
Katie recalled Buizel at the same time Axel returned Shiinotic. She found herself wondering what would come next. It would likely determine whether or not her suspicions about this Trainer were correct. When he sent out Primarina, Katie gasped and jumped up and down excitedly. "You've been to Alola!" She exclaimed, and when he nodded she beamed. Deciding to play into the situation, she sent out Rowlet... and then promptly realized he was asleep. "Really? Now?" She groaned and recalled him, only to send out Emolga. The mouse looked around to see what was going on, then realized it was in a battle. "Nuzzle!"
"Counter that Nuzzle, make a bubble!" Primarina caught Emolga's advancing body inside of a massive bubble which balanced on her nose. "That's it, now use Hyper Voice!" Before she could however, Emolga charged it's power from inside the water and zapped Primarina through the nose contact. Primarina countered by shouting so loudly the bubble wavered from the vibrations and popped, depositing an unconscious Emolga on the ground. Katie frowned and returned her Pokemon. None of her Pokemon were from Alola, so they couldn't know how to beat such a fighter as Primarina. Besides, this one had obviously been trained well.
Luxio made an appearance next, and was ready for battle the moment his feet hit the ground. He growled low in his throat and stared at Primarina with the blaze of battle in his eyes. Primarina used Hyper Voice again, and Luxio used Spark. Both attacks hit, but considering Luxio was a part of his attack he took the most damage. Now it was her turn to experience the humiliation of losing two Pokemon in a row to one attack each. Just like before with the Dragonite - this was obviously the Pokemon who had done the most training. It could deal the biggest hits and take the most damage. She had to figure out how to deal with it, and quickly.
She thought she knew what to do, and sent out her first Pokemon - Scout. The Grovyle took a fighting stance and sliced it's leaf-blades through the air in a threatening fashion. Both Trainers called out their attacks at the same time, so it became a jumble of words that were practically indecipherable. Primarina sang again, her voice causing the very air to ripple as it made it's way in the form of an attack. Scout took it, but made his own sound. It was an unusual sound, but it had seemed to pluck a long blade of grass from the ground and use it to create a strong whistling sound. To Katie's glee, the enemy fell asleep. "Absorb everything that attack took from you!" She said. Scout raced over, making contact with the sleeping Primarina and used Mega Drain. It held the connection for as long as possible. Eventually the Pokemon woke up, long enough to use Hyper Voice one more time. Scout maintained the connection despite the pain, and Primarina then fell over and was declared unable to battle. TL;DR

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ They all went back inside, talking over one another excitedly about the battle... well, they were. Katie was quiet as usual, though she smiled and nodded. They had loved the battle, it seemed. They discussed the outcome if Dragonite and Primarina would team up in a double battle. They talked about Katie's team, how good they were, how they weren't sure (no matter how good they were) if they could defeat the team of Dragonite and Primarina. Katie turned down the offer to find out as she handed her Pokeballs over to Nurse Joy. She smiled and said it would be just a few minutes before she had results, then disappeared into the back with both Katie's and Axel's Pokemon.

Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum. ♪ The group gathered around while they waited for the Pokemon to be tended to. "Well, a deal is a deal!" Said the guy who had first called out to her and been her first Opponent. "A one-of-a-kind Pokemon, just for you." He handed over a Pokeball and watched her curiously. She accepted it and looked down at it with wonder. What would it be? Perhaps some never-before-seen Pokemon? She pressed the button and aimed a beam of light at the floor. What appeared was a small bluish Pokemon. It scratched it's belly and yawned. Was this some kind of joke? Munchlax evolve into Snorlax, which were certainly not rare. Hell they had their own Z-Crystal back in Alola, but she certainly knew they weren't one-of-a-kind. She looked at their faces expecting them to start laughing at her for falling for their prank. They did not. "That's a special Munchlax. It's been bred with moves you will not find in any other Munchlax anywhere in the world." So the moves were different... she could work with that. She'd have to do some training with it later.
She thanked them, and prepared to leave the Center and continue her adventure. Before she'd gotten to the door, Axel ran over to her and called out. "Wait up!" When he got to her, he looked over his shoulder to make sure they weren't being overheard. "Look, you know I've been to Alola. I've seen and done a lot there. The thing is, he knows where you are. He's coming here, to Hoenn." Her stomach seemed to sink into a pit, shrivel up, and die all in one second. "I wanted to warn you." She turned and walked quickly out of the Center, and did not realize where she was going until she found herself in a cave. -Backpack-

She woke her up and they ate breakfast together, Then, full bellies, they went off to find where their dragon friends had gotten to. They finally found them out above the Pokemon Center a bit further up the mountains. Now that they'd completed the full Hoenn Region and collected all of those stamps, she was willing to spend a couple hours chilling around Verdanturf Town. They didn't have to fly off, but when at last they did it would be in time to get to the next region by about 2pm.

Elfana Aroway The clean air in Verdanturf Town was the only thing that really set it apart from the rest of the region. There was little there to hold her attention. She stopped for breakfast purely so she didn't have to go straight through the town. After breakfast she decided she would nap at the Pokemon Center as well. A couple of hours to rest couldn't hurt anything. She went directly to the Pokemon Center after breakfast and, of course, spoke to the nurse about collecting her stamp. From there she settled down in a far corner of the lobby. She wasn't staying long enough to justify taking over one of the beds. The doctor laid out across a couple of the seats, using her Toxicroak as a pillow. She didn't end up getting much sleep at all due to the flow of trainers in and out of the Pokemon Center but she did rest for a bit. That was better than nothing. Hoenn
