 "The Start of Something Big!"
On the very south eastern tip of the Unova Region where the ocean laps at the shores, just off the coast is a small harbor town called Nuvema Town. While small and quaint without much big business or busy streets, Nuvema Town is actually one of the most visited towns in the entire region. Situated just so at the south eastern tip with it's docks and even a small landing strip for airplanes, almost every ship and plane stops by Nuvema Town since it is the first town that one would reach coming from the east by sea or air. Because of this, Nuvema Town does have a lot of commerce that moves through on a daily basis as ships and boats stock up to continue on their travels if they need to, and even on a frequent occasion there will be new trainers stopping by to begin their journey through the Unova Region.

Finn and his Pokemon stayed over night in a place here and there just so they weren't flying non stop, and really Finn wasn't in any particular hurry to get to Unova. It seemed to him that this was a sort of impass as it were, something for him to do while he wrapped his head around things again. For a time, traveling around the Hoenn Region, things were pretty easy and he was attempting to live his new life, or what there was of it, but then so much had happened after he'd gotten to Fortree City, he just felt like he couldn't focus any more. Taking the time to slow down and breathe again might be just what he needed, so he evidently decided that he would start at the first port city in Unova to begin his travels, knowing that maybe focusing on these main land gym badges like he had in Hoenn might do him some good.
And so it was, in the warm noon of Nuvema Town, Finn was mounted on Scarux as they neared the port town, the smell of salt water coming to his senses. He took in a long breath, knowing that he might not get that scent again moving inland after having traveled over the ocean from Kalos, and he always missed such a nostalgic scent. The red Salamence flew easily enough over the dulling ocean winds as they neared the land with Finn on his back, and beside them flew Verasi whom they were still trying to get used to her wings. The Nightrial's black figure stood out against the blue sky and the clouds that surrounded them, and for a time she was doing fine in her flying were it not for a stray stiff breeze that would catch her wings here and there. Her pink eyes grew sharp as she lost control and fell only slightly through the air before orienting herself once more, growling and grumbling to herself at not being able to fly as well as she'd like. Eventually Finn and his pair of Pokemon were nearing the town, and made the descent to land among the streets of Nuvema.
Scarux was the first to touch ground, his black wings shifting the dirt and dust on the ground as he came to stand on his four broad legs. Verasi however had a less than graceful landing as she came in a little too fast and had to struggle to slow down, furiously flapping her large black wings in order to avoid what essentially would have been a crash landing.
"Finny, why is flying so hard? I can't do it right," Verasi whined like the little girl she was, especially to Finn, and Scarux only rolled his eyes as the pirate slid from his back, coming to meet Verasi who had finally managed to land herself on the ground.
"Now my darling, you've just grown your wings, for a long while you were only walking on four legs. It will take time and practice for you to get used to something so different," Finn replied, taking her large round head in his hands and stroking her scales.
"But I want to be good at flying now. I shouldn't have to practice," she whined again, her wings drooping at her sides and draping along the ground.
"You say that now, but wait till you break a wing. That's a lot of fun," Scarux growled, getting tired of her incessent whining and huffing. The dragon only earned a sharp pink glare from Verasi who growled to bare her teeth, but Finn only shook his head as he stood from Verasi and looked around the small town.
"You'll get in plenty of practice I'm sure. Never mind that you'll need to practice battling too with those new wings of yours," Finn commented.
"Do I have to? Those badge battles are so boring," the Nightrial huffed, sitting back on her haunches as she watched less than intently as the passers by and happenings of the small town.
"They won't stand a chance against my pretty little girl, but only if you try," Finn remarked, knowing how to get Verasi to listen to him, and she did as her pink eyes lit up.
"For Arceus sake, can we just get on with this? Where are we supposed to go," Scarux growled, just wanting to get a move on.
"Aye, it's been quite some time since I've been to the Unova Region, and even longer since I've traveled inland, but cartography is in my blood, and we're to go north," Finn answered. Another trainer was also making his rounds about the small town as well. Eric, a young man who'd very literally just been set on his way to take on his own journey. It seemed he was at a loss as to what he should do now. For the time being, he seemed preoccupied with the Pokeball containing his Tepig in his hands. Seeing as little Tepig was to be his new friend for the journey to come, he thought he should let it out, and say hello. With the familiar -click- of the Pokeball Tepig was out and about, sitting at his feet, and looking up at him rather cutely. He in turn knelt down, and reached out to pet his new found friend. Thankfully for him Tepig seemed to be the friendly, affectionate, type and returned his petting by rubbing it's nose against his hand.
"We-well..It's nice to meet you too Tepig.." He told it, though feeling awkward, because he honestly wasn't sure if it was male or female.
How was he going to name it if he didn't know? Maybe his Pokedex could help. Seeing as it logged his information for all Pokemon he'd seen or caught, surely it could tell him if he were to "scan" Tepig. Thankfully for him, after figuring out how exactly to do so, he got his answer.
"Well, it looks like she's a she! ..But what am I going to name her? I'm not sure what would suit her..At least not yet." He thought.
"Well, Tepig, I guess for now we can..erm." He paused for a moment, not entirely sure himself. Eric himself was feeling a bit hungry. Maybe a quick bite to eat before he headed out on his way wouldn't hurt. Even if the town was small it of course had a restaurant or two.. At least that's what he hoped, this was his first time in Nuvema Town after all.
"I guess for now we can go get something to eat! .. Well, I guess I'll at least get something, unless you want a snack?" He asked Tepig, who had decided she wanted to be carried. Not that Eric minded, she was pretty small after all, and easily held in his arms. Though the two couldn't really talk, as Tepig's only form of communication was a series of it's name being said in the form of grunts or oink-like sounds.
Next was actually finding somewhere to eat.. Until something else caught Eric's eye. A trainer, and his Pokemon. One of which was.. Very odd. What was it? Eric had never seen anything like it. Instinctively he pulled out his Pokedex, and seemed confused to be brought up with an "unidentified Pokemon" listing. Was it a new species that wasn't widespread, maybe? Whatever it was, Eric was interested, and couldn't help but stare. Tepig seemed intrigued as well, and had her head tilted as she stared at the odd Pokemon herself. Though he was a little too shy to approach the trainer, or his Pokemon, so he was simply left awkwardly standing there. Should he go over and say hello? The trainer looked terribly experienced. He didn't want to get roped into a battle, or possibly bother the other trainer. Seeing as he was here, he must be doing something important. Maybe he was here to visit Juniper too? Whatever his reasons for being present, Eric wasn't sure he wanted to bother him just to inquire about his Pokemon. He felt like that might be rude of him. ..Though how else was he going to learn about rarer Pokemon, and meet new people, if he was too scared to even say hello? Now he sighed, starting to remember just how much he hated being so shy. It'd gotten him into plenty of awkward situations just like this, he wondered why hadn't learned his lesson by now.

Not only did he intend to take this region’s gyms by storm as he planned to travel the region now, but he also wished to give Ishani a proper sending off when he got her to her proper environment. He remembered meeting her on the inner banks of the region, far northwest almost towards Opelucid City, in the wilds that spanned around the Moore of Icirrus, and he wanted to be able to bring her back home after having been trapped like she was, and losing so much. He felt good about starting something new, in a place that he hadn’t traveled in years, though there was still a burning though at the back of his mind, the Blue Orb that he harbored in his back pack. That monstrous Kyogre was still out there looking for it he was certain, but he had priorities. Ishani would come first, he would travel the region for a time to tend to her, and then make his way to the seas to find the ocean god.
Finn was contemplating things to himself for a moment as Scarux and Verasi remained on the ground. Scarux was less than amused by such meager surroundings, keeping a sharp glare towards anything that even looked in his general direction. Verasi however, despite her bratty attitude, was still young, and still curious, and was watching the small goings on around her. Her vibrant pink eyes watched people pass by, taking a chance to stare at her, but there was one younger boy that stopped and stared at her, and for a moment she turned, thinking that he would be gone, but he only continued to stare and stare at her, and then Finn, and then back to her as she took a glance here and there at him. Her ears flattened against her head, and she brought her large wings in closer to her body, shuffling a bit closer to Finn as her eyes darted back and forth between him and the boy.
”Finny… Why is that boy staring at me? I don’t like it,” Verasi hissed, dropping her head as she took yet another glance towards the younger boy, and a small Tepig that stood beside him. Finn turned and looked to Verasi, and followed her gaze, his green eyes landing on the boy across the way.
”I’d stare too if there was some strange creature that almost crash landed into the town,” Scarux snickered, earning a snarl from Verasi, though she still tried to stay as still as possible, not wanting to draw in any more attention, despite how vain she seemed to be at times. She was still getting used to her new form, wings and all, and she wasn’t comfortable yet, especially not comfortable enough to being stared at so intently.
”Don’t pay him any mind Verasi, he’s just taking in your pretty scales,” Finn replied, though he noticed that the boy was very intently staring at both of them.
”He’s just a young one Phineas, don’t be too harsh on him,” came Bade’s voice, the wyvern always watching from behind his eyes.
”Aye, I wasn’t going to hurt the lad. If he’s so keen on staring, the least he can do is answer a simple question,” Finn replied as he finally looked directly at the young boy, slightly approaching him from the short distance.
”You, boy,” Finn addressed him, now most certainly getting his attention.
”For your staring, I’ve a question for you then. What do you know of the gym leaders in this region, eh,” Finn asked as Verasi came closer to Finn to stand right behind him, her eyes sharp and her ears flat against her head as she looked at the boy now that they were directly talking to him. It seemed he was trying to hide himself now, by adverting his eyes, and trying to act like he was looking at something else. Perhaps something behind the mysterious Pokemon, and it's trainer? Maybe in actuality he was just eyeing one of the businesses? But he wasn't really fooling anyone. Being an innocent, and naive, looking little boy in the middle of town already made him stand out like a sore thumb. Not to mention being what many would call a "city slicker".. His expensive clothes, high quality gear, and such made that readily apparent. So, what was a trainer like him doing in a smaller town like this? That was enough to make him intriguing despite his obvious interest in a Pokemon that was new to him. Of course he was generally more open to meeting Pokemon than other people. He'd met many a city-dwelling Pokemon back in his hometown. Though his mother was never very fond of the Trubbish, no matter how friendly, that often stayed outside his apartment home. But Trubbish, Rattata, and other Pokemon generally considered pests were usually nice enough to meet... So long as they weren't territorial anyway.. Well and as nice as the many Muk or Grimer were.. They smelled terribly. Eric had even once found a wild Eevee in town, which was a treat. But the city was always busy, busy, busy. His parents were busy, the shops were busy.. It wasn't much fun in Eric's experience, even if others seemed to enjoy the hustle and bustle. At least that gave him more time to find other ways to occupy himself, he guessed. Reading, video games, and a manner of other hobbies generally occupied his time. Not to mention the pursuit of educational material. He was a very well rounded lad, literally, and metaphorically. But the many Castelia Cones he ate back home were also partially to blame for that.
Of course, this being HIS first time in Nuvema Town, he was enjoying it.. Even if it was a little more modest, and peaceful, than what he accustomed to. In the back of his mind he wondered when rush hour started.. or if there even was rush hour in a town like this.. But, he didn't actually mind that. Bright sunshine, fresh air, the friendly folk.. It was in more ways than one a breath of fresh air for him. He felt better than ever, despite his pre-journey jitters. Though he dreaded having to learn how to ride a bike, should be decide to purchase one for his traveling. He hoped he could get around on foot easy enough without one, though. Bikes, roller blades, and skateboards were something he felt was an accident waiting to happen. So, he was content enough with walking.
Realizing he'd been spotted though, Eric froze up. He almost looked like a pudgy little statue staring at Finn as he approached. It was very clear by his mannerisms that the poor boy was lacking in social skills. The closer Finn, and his comrades, got the more pale Eric became. A single bead of sweat ran down his brow once he was addressed, which lead him to let out the same mumbling treatment he'd given the Professor earlier. So, it seemed Finn wasn't getting his question answered very easily. Truth be told, Eric wasn't all that familiar with any of the gym leaders. Well, maybe other than Burgh who was in fact a resident of Castelia City.
"We-well I.. Er.." He tried to gather his thoughts, though he was still a mumbler. Tepig on the other hand tried to be a little more outgoing, effectively saying "Hello there!", to Finn as well as Scarux and Versai. Thankfully for Tepig at least, fellow Pokemon could understand her just fine.
"I um.. I don't really know too much about the gyms..Sorry..Um, sir." He finally admitted, seeming embarrassed to be so lacking in knowledge about the very region he lived in. But, he was still trying to be polite at the very least.
"..Burgh is really the only one I know too much about, he's an artist, and his gym is in Castelia City where I grew up..I-I think he uses, um, bug Pokemon." He then said, at least able to give Finn a little information.

So what if he was staring at Verasi? She gets stared at all the time and now all of a sudden this time was so much different. The Salamence only grunted and growled in a huff as he sat doing nothing, just trying to keep himself occupied any tiny bit while his captain took it upon himself to interrogate a child.
Finn stood before the boy with Verasi sat behind him, her long tail laid on the ground in a large crescent around her and her trainer, though her wings were tucked in close around her body as she continued to watch the other human with sharp pink eyes. He started mumbling as soon as Finn addressed him, asking him a question in return for his intent staring he had done, and Verasi and Finn took a moment to glance at each other as he tripped over his own words. Even the small pig he had with him had a stronger voice as the little Tepig trotted forward on its hooves, giving them a cheerful and confident greeting. Verasi's ears perked at the sound of a new voice before her eyes narrowed again, looking down at the fire type.
"You're really small. We don't have any small Pokemon like you except for the little blue one we got from that professor. Is that what you are," Verasi questioned, sitting in closer around Finn as the human began to finally speak, tripping over his words and calling Finn 'sir'. Finn was taken aback by the phrase as he looked down at the boy. Nevermind that he had't quite produced an answer yet, but he just referred to Finn as sir.
"Sir? There's no sir, lad. It's 'mate' for everyone except your captain where I'm from," Finn corrected, rather disgruntled at having been called sir. No one was sir but his captain on his ship, he wouldn't even refer to anyone but his captain as sir himself, so to think that someone would call him sir, it was just unthinkable. However, there were other matters to tend to now as the boy continued to stutter and mumble, and Finn could feel Bade's palpable concern for how shy and lacking in confidence the young one was. He looked down to the little fire type he had with him, knowing enough about the Unova Region to recognize the 'starter' Pokemon that were given out for their league.
"You intend to become a trainer in this region? Neigh, you're from this region and you only know of one of the gym leaders here," Finn questioned.
"I should hope that you think you're ready for such a journey. You look like a strapping young lad, but traveling is not for the faint of heart," Finn continued.
"You could start by mustering the gall to ask the question you've had on your mind since you've been staring at my Verasi," the pirate mused, surely not being degrading at all on the boy, but only trying to help him muster up just a splinter of confidence in that moment. Poor Eric felt as if he probably was making a fool of himself in the middle of town now. Being so nervous, and knowing so little about his own home, made him feel rather stupid. But it was only recently that he'd begun learning more about the Pokemon League, Gyms, other trainers.. It was a lot to take him, especially with so much already on his mind. Standing before someone who was obviously so much more experienced than him, most likely in life as well as in regards to Pokemon, left him with doubting his attempts at finding self confidence. Tepig had also jumped from his arms, settling at his feet, to converse with the new Pokemon before her. Honestly she hadn't really seen too much outside of the Pokemon at the lab, and other things in town, so this was a new experience for her too.Though she did take a moment to give her ear a little scratch with a hoof, and stretch a little since she was outside of her Pokeball. But seeing as Eric's hands were no longer occupied by holding his Pokemon than began to wander, soon fiddling with the edge of his shirt as a nervous tick of sorts.
"Hm? Oh, well, I did come from the Professor of this town. Professor Juniper, I've been with her as long as I can remember... Well, until now I suppose, since this little boy here chose me. He seems nice ... Though he's really ervous about everything." Tepig started to say, tilting her head slightly to the side as she began to think back. Though seeing as she was so small she had to continue to look upward to talk to the much larger Pokemon before her. She seemed concerned for Eric as well in regards to her last statement, especially while watching him be so overwhelmed by this new trainer who'd stopped to talk to them.
Eric on the other hand seemed embarrassed about calling Finn "sir". Such things were unfortunately habit for him, which caused him to often be too polite. Of course he also didn't know Finn's reasoning for disliking the title. Had he known, he of course wouldn't have used it. Though hearing talk of a "captain" he seemed to perk up slightly, mostly with curiosity. "Captain"? Was he a sailor? Someone who specialized in training water type Pokemon? Well, maybe not that. A Salamence certainly wasn't a water type..Nor was the other Pokemon which had stirred up Eric's curiosity in the first place and gotten him into this very conversation..or was it? It didn't really look like a water type.. But he certainly didn't know one way or another. For all he knew, it could have been a brand new type all together. Seeing Finn eye his starting Pokemon he knew it wouldn't be all that hard to see that he was in fact a beginning trainer.. Not to mention his now pointed out lack of knowledge about his home region.
"O-oh.. I'm sorry.. It's just a habit since my mom always makes me call everyone Sir or Ma'am." He started, firstly apologizing for his unintentional misuse of title.
"... But should I call you mate..? I know that's probably a silly question but..I don't, well, know your name either." He then said, trying to figure what would instead be the proper title, or at least to find out this new mysterious trainer's name.
"I-I think I'm ready..! I, well.. I still don't know everything about the region but I'm..I'm learning! .. I know there's Burgh where I grew up..I-I've seen a little bit about the one in Nimbasa city..She's a really famous model so she's on clothes advertisements in Castelia City.. and I've heard about the one in Virbank City on the radio a little. She's in a rock band.. But Burgh is the only one I've ever seen in person." He mumbled and tried to tell Finn. It wasn't much knowledge, and probably wouldn't help him win any gym battles. But at least he knew something about some of the regions gym leaders. The young man would definitely need to educate himself before attempting to challenge any gyms, much less start trying to travel the world on his own. Such a sweet, naive, little boy could certainly get himself into some trouble in the harsh world around him if he wasn't prepared beforehand.
"But I..I've worked really hard to come here..I traveled here from Castelia City all by myself. I've got lots of supplies, and rations, and.. Um.. Other stuff I need to travel..I.. I think I'm ready to finally travel on my own. I'm.. Definitely not going back home." He continued, stopping for a moment because he thought he sounded silly by discussing the contents of his backpack. Though the last part of his statement was said even quieter than the rest, like the words pained him. Even if he wasn't ready to be on his own, he sure wasn't ready to give up and go home either. But that desire to be out on his own did seem to ignite some sort of a spark in him, no matter how dulled by his nervous demeanor and self doubt.
"Q-question? O-oh.." He seemed confused for a moment, but then glanced over towards Finn's Pokemon and his own Tepig. He did still want to know what the dark Pokemon before him was, after all.
"I'm real sorry for staring at your Pokemon.. I've just never seen one like it and didn't know what it was. .. My Pokedex didn't know either so I was just curious." He then admitted, and apologized.

Verasi couldn't imagine having known only one place for her entire life, she's been all over the world, or at least most of it since she was newer to Finn's crew, and she didn't want any of that to change. The small fire type seemed just as concerned for the human trainer as they all were, or most of them were sans Scarux, commenting on how nervous and lacking in confidence he was.
"So you are like the little blue thing. I would try to pick a different human if I were you. Nice is nice, but he talks too quiet and what happens if something bad happens? I know my Finny could handle something bad, he's done it before. That's why he has those funny looking marks on his chest," Verasi replied, eyeing the trainer again with her pink eyes as she spoke down to the Tepig, knowing that Finn had faced so many things, even death itself with the fractal scar on his chest to prove it. She wasn't trying to scare the fire type per say, at least not on purpose, but Verasi has seen plenty of bad things and had a lot of bad stuff happen to her and Finny, and this little boy that she had just didn't fit the bill. She was only speaking from her own experiences of course where it seemed bad fortune followed Finn like a ghost, but she couldn't know that there would be nothing bad that would happen to the young boy. All she knew was he wasn't like Finn, and Finn was her everything, at least until she didn't get what she wanted.
Phineas had to take a glance at Verasi at the way she was talking about him, but surely the small pig wouldn't have any idea what the scars on his chest would mean, or what something bad was. He would have to have a talk with her later about what was appropriate for conversation, but for now his attention was still on the young stuttering boy and how he was now fumbling over what to call Finn.
"Propriety will get you a long way, but there's no sense in formalities with the likes of me. Mate is fine lad, but the name's Phineas Howe, though Finn is what most call me," Finn replied with a small chuckle at the boy's utter confusion on the small conversation.
"You've got a name, don't you," Finn returned, trying to get the boy to speak up for himself at least the smallest bit. He seemed to finally get something out of him as the boy tried his best to go on about the gym leaders and what he might know about them. There really wasn't anything useful in regards to a battling prospect, he didn't need to know, nor care that one of the leaders here was a model for clothing. Why that was at all necessary, or made for good credentials to be a gym leader he would never know. And what good was talking on the radio or playing an instrument for the heck of it? What had this region come to when it came to delegating their positions of power? The boy could only give him that one of the leaders here trained bug types and that was it, and frankly Finn wasn't impressed. It seemed this region would be a steal for gym battles. Now that he got the boy talking though, it seemed that he wouldn't stop, continuing on about how he thought he was ready to travel the region by himself. He mumbled and spoke quietly, but once he started talking he just kept rambling.
"It would appear he has two settings. Speechless, or rambling. I can't seem to find an inbetween," Finn chuckled to the one being he knew was listening, and he could feel Bade behind his eyes, the wyvern ever present.
"Oh you hush now, he's just a young thing. You've got him all in a tizzy going on like you have," Bade chided, feeling a bit bad for the young human.
"Aye lad, you've done good. I didn't think I'd hear that many words out of you if I sat here for the rest of the afternoon," Finn laughed.
"It sounds to me like the gym leaders here won't be much of a challenge at all. A shame really, but I've a mission in this region besides, so I guess they'll have to do," he commented, acknowledging that he took the boy's words to heart. He finally went on to ask about Verasi though like Finn knew he was curious about, and the dragon looked sharply at the mention of herself, her pink eyes narrowing.
"Don't apologize to me boy, apologize to her," Finn replied, taking a look at Verasi who only chuffed at his green eyes with a sharp glare.
"She's a special one indeed, but truth be told, I don't know much more about her than you do," Finn admitted, and it was true. He'd never seen another one either, and certainly didn't have the research material or resources to find out a whole lot of information about her, so he only knew about her what he knew from just having her around.
"She's a fire breather, grew from just a little thing on four legs with no wings. She flies pretty well, though she's still learning, and I only know that she's called a Nightrial," Finn finished, giving just the basics of what he knew about his own Pokemon. Now that Tepig herself was thinking about it.. It was a little odd to realize that she'd been with the Professor for so long. Since she was a baby? Right after then? Thinking back on it, she couldn't remember. But life with the Professor wasn't bad by any means. Safe, well fed, plenty of other Pokemon to see. New trainers to meet when they came by looking for a starter.. Even if Eric was the first to actually pick her. That at the very least made her happy, even if she wasn't so sure about what type of trainer Eric would turn out to be. So many trainers had come through the lab in her time there, this one was probably the most flustered she'd ever seen. Most of them came in y, or just pleasantly confident. But Eric was a mess.. Part of her was worried he might take her back, as some trainers did in the end, when they realized they weren't ready for the journey ahead. Tepig could only hope it didn't come to that as she stared up at her trainer worriedly.
"... Well, I suppose that is always an option. I could just go home. But I'm sure he'll be alright. He is just a beginner after all.. I may be small but I could still give something a good thrashing if I needed to too, I guess. But it does seem nice to travel with an experienced trainer... I'm sure we'll be fine, though. It's pretty exciting, honestly. I've never left this town..! So.. I'm rather excited to see what else is out there." Tepig said, looking up at Eric for a moment, before turning her gaze to Finn instead. Of course she was worried that Eric might get himself into trouble.
But, she figured that was all apart of traveling. Not all Pokemon were nice and friendly like herself, after all. Not to mention the humans themselves, she'd seen quite a few nasty trainers, and would prefer to stay very far away from those types of trainers. Though hearing of Finn's experience, she did find herself focused on, looking intently at him. He did seem rather rough, and weathered. Not to mention he smelled of new places.. Taking a little sniff at the air, which cause a cute little snort to come from her, she could definitely tell he well traveled. Especially given he smelled of the sea air. Now she wondered where all he had been, and wondered if she end up going on adventures of her own. Eric certainly didn't seem the adventurous type.. But, maybe time would change that. Surely he could get himself a bit more confidence..Having a thought that he always might be a worry wart caused her to sigh.
"W-well it's nice to meet you, um.. Finn. But, my name is Eric, Eric Ninon." Eric began, trying to contain himself from his previous ramblings as well as properly introduce himself this time.
Now that Eric was thinking about it even he thought it was weird that the gym leaders of his home were so publicly glamorized. They seemed to be more known for the public image, or hobbies, more so than for their abilities as gym leaders. But, growing up in the city, he figured that must be normal. Image was everything there. One wrong first impression, and you'd be out of a business deal! ....That's what his father used to say, anyway. He wish he knew more about their Pokemon than what was on the TV.. But maybe he could guess? Elesa might have pretty Pokemon, for instance. Maybe Roxie had rock Pokemon? .. Well that one seemed like it be too obvious for him. Maybe she had steel types due to being in a metal-sounding band? He didn't know, and attempting to over think it would surely derail his train of thought.
"Oh.. Whoops.. I didn't mean to ramble. I guess I got a little over excited.." He then said, sounding a little embarrassed, and he began to look down at his feet in the same manner.
"I've heard the gyms are real tough though.. That's what people always said where I grew up, anyway..I guess I'll find out when I meet them." He continued.
But upon hearing about Versai, what she was, and what he knew Eric was certainly intrigued. That was clear enough to see by the look on his face as he slowly looked back up, peeking over at her. He seemed to be intimidated by her narrowed gaze at him.. Then again who wouldn't be if they had a strange creature glaring at him.
"Well, I'm really sorry for staring at you.. um.. Nightrial. I just thought you were really neat and was too nervous to come say anything.. I hope you're not too mad at me. Maybe the Professor could help you find out more about her?" He attempted to apologize, not knowing the name she went by instead. At the very least the apology was sincere, as was his attempt to help Finn find out more by mentioning the local Professor.

She really couldn’t fathom how someone could be so mousy and afraid of even just a simple conversation, it’s not like Finn was gonna kill him? Sure he might have a sheathed cutlass at each hip, and was bigger and older than the boy, but she never thought of Finn as intimidating, that someone would be intimidated by him when he didn't have a cutlass ready to pierce their heart. It seemed that that’s just who he was, afraid and too quiet to say so, and Verasi was glad that Finn was nothing like that, then they wouldn’t get to do anything fun. The small fire type tried to make the best of it all though as she tried to give the human the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, he was new, but what if he stayed like this? Some people don’t change, or have a hard time changing, and she knew this because even though Finn had died and needs to be more careful, he still does dangerous things.
”Okay, if you say so. You just won’t get to do any fun things for a while like going out on the ocean or climbing mountains, you know, adventure stuff. You’ll need to get some more teammates too,” Verasi replied, having only seen just the little pig, it didn’t seem like there were any other Pokemon with them.
”We have a lot of teammates. Finny calls them our crew. It might be a long time before your human can actually catch a Pokemon, so you’d better be as strong as you say you are to help,” the black dragon continued, her spoiled demeanor ever present as she spoke about her own team. She, in her minds eye, was trying to give advice to the much younger Pokemon, though to most it probably sounded like she was bragging or some such. Finn was trying to listen to Verasi to make sure she didn’t say anything she shouldn’t, or wasn’t supposed to, but he knew Bade was listening as well to step in if she needed to. Having that comfort, Finn did keep his attention on the boy who had now introduced himself as Eric.
”Think nothing of it lad. It’s good to be passionate. You sound like you’re a quick learner, so maybe one day you’ll be able to spin a tale of the whole Unova League to a young boy just like yourself,” Finn replied, knowing better than most that being confident with your words could get you far in life. He liked to think that he’d talked his way out of many situations with his captain in the past, and he knew he had a thing for story telling. So getting excited and rambling was nothing Finn would scorn the boy for. He sounded like he hadn’t spoken that much in ages.
"But I'll be the judge of these so called gym leaders. I've some salt on my bones yet, I think my crew and I could take them," Finn commented on the credentials Eric was trying to give the gym leaders, and Verasi looked down to the pig knowingly as Finn referred to them as his crew, just as she had mentioned. Her attention moved from the ground back to the boy though as he started talking to her directly, apologizing as Finn had, sarcastically, suggested. He had her attention, but whether she was taking his words to heart was less than apparent as she seemed to mouth along with his words as though she were mocking him with a series of shallow growls.
"Now Verasi, he's being genuine. Nevermind that your beautiful scales always draw an eye," Finn chided, reaching to scratch under the dragon's chin as she leaned into his touch. Finn listened still to the boy though who went on about the professors and going to them to get more information about Verasi and what she was.
"Those stuffed shirts? How much can one really know hulled up in a facility like their esteemed laboratories? Knowledge comes from worldly experience, I'd wager I know a thing or two that your professor wouldn't," Finn proclaimed.
"Example, did you know that a Salamence has the flight power to carry an overgrown mega evolved Blastoise, and two passengers? Learned that the hard way we did, but I venture to say that those shut in scholars are none the wiser," Finn went on, though Scarux only growled at the mere mention of the scenario, wondering how Finn could be so blatant to talk about what had happened to them in that wretched place.

Unfortunately for Eric most of his home life was to blame for his submissive demeanor. With very little parenting in his life, and being alone most of the time, he'd developed a very innocent view of the world around him. Not to mention other children tormenting him for his weight when he was even younger. It seemed back then especially that Pokemon were his only friends. So, other people were very intimidating, and he didn't deal with them very well at all. The most lessons he ever got from his parents were those relating to business.. His father being the head of the Marketing Department where he worked, all of his time was spent at the office, or taking his work home. His mother was in the real estate business, buying homes, selling them, and the like. This always left her on the road, or asleep at home, tired from the work. So, Eric was often left in the care of their Pokemon or the sometimes brought in babysitter. But he hoped being out in the world would change that. He was tired of the city life, having everything material he wanted given to him by his well off parents, and being left to wander the same town every single day. Eric wanted more out of life, and out of himself. His mother had always coddled him, and babied him.. He couldn't so much as get a scratch without her sheltering him further.. Part of him looked forward to the idea of actually getting an injury, as weird as it felt to admit that.
"Well, that's alright with me. I'd rather start slow than to jump into anything too crazy.. I'm a little nervous to start battling, honestly. I'm rather experienced other than a few rounds with some other Pokemon at the lab. But I'm sure I'll do alright! .. I just hope he does alright too.. I'm sure we'll find some great Pokemon to come along with us!" Tepig then said, sighing a little more, as she wondered if they'd have a rough journey at first. Thankfully she could tell Verasi meant well, even if she might have come off as bragging.
For Tepig, it was honeslty pretty nice to converse with a more experienced and well traveled Pokemon. It gave her a good bit of hope, and eased some of her worries. Though she wondered what type of Pokemon they might meet along the way. Being one herself, she found it odd that she didn't know a whole lot about others out there. The thought even scared her a little, since she at least knew there were plenty of fearsome ones in the world, much less the region itself. She'd often heard talk of ones known as "Legendaries", and seen things about others on the lab's televisions. The idea of facing one as small as she was sent a shiver down her spine. Hopefully things wouldn't be quite that challenging for them. But she could only look at her trainer, and hope he'd be able to carry her as well as the others they'd most likely meet along the way.
"Well I wanna try my best to travel the whole region.. A-and the whole world..! ..Even if I don't win the League or anything like that.." Eric nearly blurted out, getting a little excited at the thought of being someone to look up to when he was older. He wanted to make something of himself so badly.
"B-but I'm sure you could beat the gym leaders..You seem like a really, really, good trainer." He then commented, only to go from happy sounding to nervous once more, as he saw the reaction his apology was getting. It was like a gloomy cloud had settled over him, and it left him looking down at the his shoes once again. But, he seemed to perk up at least a little bit hearing Finn attempting to help with said apology.
"I guess that's true.. I dunno if many of the Professors really do much outside of their labs. ..Today was my first time meeting Professor Juniper.. B-but no! I didn't know that.. Salamence must be super strong then!" He said, seeming as if he was genuinely enjoying learning this odd ball bit of information. Most kids would have probably brushed it off..Eric on the other hand wanted to learn all he could.
"But I have learned a lot since I came here from Castelia.. It was real weird being all by myself, camping, and having to take care of myself like that. But I.. I think I liked it." He then explained.

She couldn't know how the little pig could be so forth coming about a future she had no idea about, what if they never made it out of this town to begin with? She was excited about stuff that she didn't know would happen or not, and Verasi just couldn't wrap her head around it. She was still young herself, and of course there were things she didn't understand, but she didn't make an attempt to understand things that she didn't already, unless of course she had to listen because Bade was the one talking. Finny always said that they needed to listen to Bade whatever she said no matter what, and while she didn't handle authority very well that wasn't her Finny, she did her best to listen to the wyvern. Sometimes.
"Maybe when you get bigger we'll have a battle to see, cause right now you aren't very big and it wouldn't be fair even if you breathe fire too," Verasi replied.
"But you should really get some of those badge battles first. Those tell how strong your human is as a trainer, so you need some before you can battle someone really strong like Finny," she advised, understanding only so much of what it was the gym battles were meant for and what it meant to have them. She knew Finn had some from the region they were in before, but she didn't really consider him a trainer, especially since it was only a recent venture that they embarked on, after being marooned and all.
The boy listened intently as Finn spoke to him, though he went back and forth between eager and scared in seconds flat, having gone from Verasi's mocking apology to his little fun fact of the day and his emotions following accordingly.
"Aye, I'm sure these professors must know something or other to be as acclaimed as they are, but nothing can be said for the fantastic and spectacular things that are happening right this second, and every day out there in the world without going to see them for yourself," Finn replied, surely not trying to discredit the famed professors, at least too much, but he was certain that he knew more and was far more well traveled than even the highest among them.
"Traveling all on your lonesome, eh? Aye, Castelia is a bit of a ways from here, I haven't been to their ports in a good while," Finn contemplated, remembering where Castelia was in respect to where they were now.
"So you're to challenge the first of this region's gym leaders now after receiving your little partner, you might need a bit of training before you could try that first challenge," Finn recommended, at least knowing that with just one small little Pokemon, it wouldn't be very likely that he could make it through the first gym battle. Under the circumstances, Tepig figured optimism was really all she had. If she worried herself too much she might not want to go on an adventure at all.. So, she figured trying to be positive would be for the best.
"Well.. I figure hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst, might be for the best...I'd rather do that, then go out nervous like my new trainer seems to be." She admitted at first.
But at the thought of a possible battle Tepig seemed to perk up, and the little Pokemon almost seemed to wiggle where she sat. Honestly, even if she wasn't the most experienced in battle, she did truly enjoy it. Though she'd really only sparred a bit with other Pokemon at the lab.. So, for all she knew, she'd be terrible in an actual battle. Especially with a not so experienced trainer like Eric leading her. Tepig wanted to believe in the young man, but still had her worries.
"Well, I certainly wouldn't mind a battle when I'm a bit more experienced! ..Well, if I'm any good, that is. Though, I suppose having some of those badge things would be for the best.. A lot of the young trainers who come to the lab are obsessed with them..So, I guess they must be very important. That's really all I know about them, though." She continued.
Seeing as she'd never even seen a gym badge, of course she wasn't sure just what they were for. They always seemed a bit arbitrary, honestly. But the many young trainers she'd seen come through the lab went on and on about them, as well as this "Pokemon League" everyone was always so excited about. She figured it must have been extremely important, as even the professor was involved, and was basically setting trainers on their way towards it. Eric even seemed to be interested in it, so, she was intrigued at the very least. Seeing Eric nearly made her chuckle though, as she found his array of emotions as well as how quickly he seemed to go through them amusing. Were all young humans so interesting, she wondered.
"Honestly that's, well, why I wanted to be out on my own.. I..I was tired of just..Being at home all the time." Eric admitted, looking away for a moment, as he was trying to deny that little bit of being homesick at the back of his mind. Part of him did miss being all cozy at home, but his desire to see the world overcame that.
"But for now I guess I'm gonna be all by myself..Well..Except for Tepig, of course. But I.. I did it.. Even if it was hard." He nodded, glancing over to Tepig to give her a little smile for just a second. Obviously he was already feeling very attached to his new little friend, however short their time together had been.
"But I guess I do need to start training.. I'm a little nervous since I've never battled before, and I don't want Tepig to get too hurt.. But I guess we could try battling out on one of the routes outside of town. M-maybe we could just battle some little wild Pokemon..I guess we won't know unless we try." Eric said, trying to think of what exactly might be their best strategy. Seeing as battle training required an opponent of some sort, he'd have to figure something out. Tepig couldn't really battle if she didn't have something to battle against.

She was fine sitting and chit chatting for maybe the first two minutes, but now she was starting to get bored, and she knew that Scarux wasn't having a good time either. The red dragon was sitting off to the side, daring anyone who passed by him to get too close as he waited, less than patiently, for them to move on as well. He didn't like crowds, nor being in such a small and less than challenging environment. He wanted out of here, but not just for sake of being bored, more for his pride.
"Well, you need to practice first before you can do the badge battles. And you're not gonna battle anything just sitting here like this in this little town," Verasi commented, looking to Finn who was still in a small conversation with the fire type's human trainer, and almost giving a groan of a growl to try to get his attention, trying to tell him that she was bored, though she was going to be a bit petty about it and not get his direct attention right away.
Finn listened to the boy remark about how he was glad to be free of his home for the time being, getting to test his legs and travel as his heart contented, and he could tell that despite how nervous he was, just the thought alone was enough to make him happy. Finn remembered the day that he was to set of with Vitus, who was just a Wartortle at the time, off to the Kanto region to start his own travels. By now, that had been about ten years ago, and he couldn't have fathomed that his life would have turned out the way that it did, for better or for worse as it were, but just the feeling of freedom and the knowledge that the world was at his fingertips in those moments, he could empathize with Eric. It truly was exhilarating, even if one had trouble showing it.
"That's precisely it though lad, you won't truly be alone a day in your life now that you've got a partner. The two of you will go through thick and thin, and learn to take care of each other, and you'll come to understand that your Tepig there is more than just a Pokemon," Finn spoke, though now Verasi's whining was starting to get a bit much for him as he pushed at her muzzle, trying to get her to hush for just a moment. He knew what she was trying to get at, and that she wanted to press on, but Finn wasn't in any particular hurry really, knowing Ishani was going to appreciate being in the Unova region in general, so he didn't feel the need to get on Scarux' back and just up and leave.
"You've got to start somewhere mate, and you certainly won't know until you try. How's about we go on for a bit with you, eh? I've got a young thing of a Pokemon that could use a bit of training myself if I want to use him in the gym battles to come, so what do you say to a change in scenery," Finn suggested, knowing he wanted to try and work with the little croc Hyse he had encountered just a few days ago, and he had Verasi's full attention now as the dragon groaned.
"Finally, I'm so bored here," Verasi growled as she threw her head back, though she looked down again to the small fire type.
"Here's your big chance, you're gonna have to do a battle, so you better make sure your trainer knows what to do," Verasi spoke, looking from her back to her trainer before trying to get Finn to start actually moving. Honestly, Tepig was getting a little antsy herself. As much as she was enjoying meeting these new Pokemon, and spending some time with her trainer.. She wanted to go! Though, seeing as Eric had wanted to get food.. Her tummy didn't mind waiting just a bit longer.
"Well, hopefully we can head out soon.. " Tepig replied, agreeing that they weren't going to get anything done just standing around.
She hoped pawing at Eric's pants leg would get his attention, and would let him know she too was ready to head out.
Eric on the other hand was honestly getting a little antsy himself! Just talking about getting truly set on his way, and officially start his journey. Exploring the land, meeting other trainers, beating the gyms.. It was a lot to think about,but nevertheless still terribly exciting.
"We-well.. I hope Tepig and I can become real good friends.." He said, looking down at the now pawing Tepig. Seeing as he could tell she wanted to get going he seemed to feel bad. As much as he might have been a little antsy himself, he didn't want to be rude.
Upon hearing Finn actually wanted to travel with him seemed to geuninely shock him. Even if he had a lower level Pokemon..Wouldn't a novice like himself weigh him down, and be a burden.. But the idea of traveling, even for a short time, with someone more experienced sounded great!
"We-well..Are you sure..? I wouldn't want to, you know..Slow you down or anything.." He said, making his worries known.
Hearing that they were about to get going Tepig perked up, even down to her tail wagging lightly.
"W-wow! My first official battle!I hope I do alright..!" She exclaimed, obviously just as excited as she was nervous.

It had been quite some time that he had been to the Unova Region from his ventures with his crew, and even then they only came to the inner canals of the region past Castellia City. The region here was a bit too modern though, high scale and moving forward with the times. They didn’t necessarily have a market for trades and goods, or artisan services or other such bartering materials that Finn and his crew harbored on their ship. As such, Finn had only ever been in the water ways of Unova really, having never traveled to the inner cities and settlements of the region, and he couldn’t say that he wasn’t interested. Likewise, he was ready to start training again, really getting back to what he was working on with his Pokemon. The stronger they got out here on the mainlands, the more chance he had of being able to go back to his crew and his captain, and never mind that he still had some figuring out to do with his physical state of being, or lack thereof. Finn looked down to Eric as he had mentioned moving forward with him and his Tepig for a bit, Verasi coming around beside him again as she wanted to start moving again, getting exceedingly bored in this little tiny town.
”Slow me down? I don’t have any where pressing to be lad, and if I want to do this training right again, I know the little croc I have needs to have time to start learning how to battle,” Finn answered, starting to walk along the sidewalk then to start moving them along. The little pig he had seemed to excite at the mention of starting to train and getting in a battle, and Finn had to wonder though just how prepared this young lad was.
”So tell me mate, what kind of battle experience do you have? How do you plan to take on this Pokemon you might encounter out there,” Finn asked, knowing that once they got out of the main boundaries of the small town, that Pokemon would be teeming in every tree and brush, and there would be no shortage of battles for young Eric to encounter.

Right about now poor Eric felt like jelly. His tedancy to over analyze things was once again getting him in trouble with himself. He could only hope traveling with someone more experienced him might quell the rest of his worries.. But, at the same time, he didn't want to be a bother. Looking around him a bit however, he was going to miss being in a cozy little town, and out on the open road once again. Eric wondered if he'd be able to handle it.. He was certainly prepared in the way of supplies, and being on his own for the small amount of time he had been. But that was nothing compared to the lifetime of experience most trainers had.. At least it was one step forward on his adventure. Now he could only hope that he'd be a good companion, and traveling partner, for his new friend here..
"Well I.. Um.." Eric began, pausing at Finn's question. He'd JUST gotten Tepig today after all.. And with no Pokemon to speak of otherwise, this would in fact be his very first battle.
"Well.. This is a little awkward, I guess, for him." Tepig then said, upon seeing Eric's inability to answer Finn's question. Her own facial expression as she looked up at her trainer probably gave away the answer.. Tepig couldn't help but feel bad, seeing as it wasn't really Eric's fault that they hadn't had much time to spend together as of yet.
"Well, um, this will.. Actually be my first real time battling." He then admitted, looking ashamed of himself.
"I know a lot ABOUT battling.. I've done lots of research and seen battles but.. I just got Tepig today. I don't have any other Pokemon either so.. Well, this will be my first time battling for real." He continued, feeling the need to explain himself.

Finn's green eyes glanced down to the small Tepig that trotted along on its hooves with them on the ground, then back to Eric before he looked out in the distance, finding the buildings already thinning and opening the way to the forest and wilderness that lay beyond. So the boy had never once been in a battle on his own, he was fresh into the world without a lick of experience to bear on his chest, not a single grain of salt on his bones. Finn mused to himself, feeling a sense of nostalgia come over him. What would it have been like if he hadn't been snatched up by his captain those years ago? Ten years old and just getting to start his journey. He had Vitus then who was only a Wartortle, and Pintel and Thaedra, but he had none of the wordly experience that he knew now, none of the harsh lessons he'd had to learn just to survive, what would it have been like if he had made it to Pallet Town that day across the sea and made off like a normal trainer? It all seemed so trivial to him now, the things he had been through, he wouldn't have died that day and been brought back from Bade's power, he wouldn't even know the wyvern if they hadn't crossed paths in this alternate reality, and despite everything that had happened because of it, he couldn't fathom the thought. As much as he still had trouble accepting it all, it was a part of him, or rather a lack thereof now, and he couldn't imagine what such a quaint normal life would have been like. For Eric though, it seemed that this was the apex of all happenings that had culminated in his life, and Finn had to digress. To Eric, this was the day that Finn got hulled up on the deck of his ship. To Eric, this was the day his life changes.
"Alright lad, that should still do just fine. They say knowledge is power, and that is no lie," Finn spoke finally as they had continued to walk, and the small hustle and bustle of Nuvema town was behind them now. He looked down to the small Tepig at Eric's feet again before he thought for a moment, looking to Eric again.
"What do you know about your friend here? The more you can learn about your own Pokemon, the better off the both of you will be as you begin to train," Finn asked as he stopped in his walking, turning to look at Eric then as Verasi came up beside him to stand beside her trainer, though Scarux was beyond over the entire situation by now and was lagging behind, dragging his tail along the ground as he trudged along to catch up with them, eventually. The lad Eric had decided that it would be best to press on on his journey on his own for a time, to try and flesh things out for himself and not have to have so much of a dependence on things, and Finn could respect that. He had only just met the boy after all, and didn't have any obligation to stay with him or make him feel responsible for the boy, so they had said their brief goodbyes and separated. Finn was left to his own devices once more, and had since been contemplating where he needed to take Ishani so he could introduce her back to her home like he had promised. Verasi and Scarux were still out from their Pokeballs and Finn had Vitus now too out and about as they were nearing the ocean, for Finn knew that Ishani lived on a coastal part of Unova so they would likely make the most of their journey now by sea rather than by traveling through the region with that young lad. Finn was still contemplating taking the region's badges for his own, wanting to take a few more under his belt to show for his strength and self development, and perhaps at some point he could go on to another region, maybe one not so far away from the badges he had already earned, but for now he couldn't think of such things.
Finn was moving along the coast now, the smell of the salt water always calming to him and remniscent of his home on Alto Mare and the ship that he had spent the better part of his life on, and he walked with Scarux, Verasi, and Vitus whom were enjoying the openness of being out by the ocean. He was getting ready to take out one of his maps that he kept to plot his course when he felt Bade behind his eyes, she was on alert it felt like and leery of something as he stopped with his few Pokemon.
"Bade, what is it," Finn asked, wondering what could have gained her attention like that, but his few Pokemon stopped too as they heard a faint sound, all of them as they glanced at each other.
"Do you hear something," Vitus asked, looking to Scarux who glanced around with his dark eyes, wondering where it was coming from.
"Yeah, but I can't tell where it's coming from," the Salamence growled lightly, unable to shake the feeling though that it sounded like it was coming from inside his own mind, like it didn't have a source.
"It's getting louder... Finny what is it," Verasi asked, and Finn heard it too, the whispers, the words that sounded like something far from english, or any language he actually knew of.
"There's something coming, something dark," Bade hissed, but within seconds the voices started getting louder and louder until there was shrieking and screaming, and Finn and his Pokemon were nearly writhing from the sheer volume of it.
"Bade, do something," Finn shouted over the screaming in his head, only barely being able to glance with his green eyes to find Verasi on the ground clawing at her own ears, and Scarux and Vitus too were trying to fend off the shrieks to take aim at whatever it was. A Pokeball at Finn's belt shook before the wyvern emerged, her enormous figure looming over the coastal cliffside as she looked with her fierce blue eyes to try and find the source of this power. She struggled a bit to stay on the land she had found herself on against the line of trees that made up the edge of this southern penninsula, but with her long talons and clawed wings, she clung to the rocks and made herself known to whatever was trying to threaten her and her teammates. Finn was gritting his teeth together and was hardly able to think straight now as the screams and cries continued, but there was one shriek that came above all the others as a large Mismagius appeared before them in a cast of power and shadows. The shrieking stopped all at once, and Finn felt himself breathe and groan at the invasion of his mind, and his few Pokemon too growled and groaned at being released from the deafening sounds. Finn had to take a moment, but grit his teeth again as he looked up to the ghost that wavered in the air above them now, and while he had seen Mismagius before in his life, he had never seen one quite like this. Even the old spirit Amma that Ridley traveled with seemed tame compared to this distortion of shadows that glared down at them now, and Finn could tell that there was something even more unnatural about this particular spirit.
"Leave this place," Bade hissed with sharp eyes, glaring at the ghost then before anything more came of her presence, but the spirit only cackled as she regarded the few Pokemon around her, and Phineas in particular with what was left of his soul.
"My soul is no concern of yours witch," Finn scowled, glaring up at the ghost with his green eyes as he stood from his weakened spot on the ground. The ghost only cackled again though before she moved through the air, surely getting ready to dodge any attacks that might soon come her way.
"Scarux," Finn called, listening to the roar the Salamence gave before lifting into the air, starting after the fleeting ghost that was moving at speeds Finn could hardly see.
"I can help too," Verasi shouted as she opened her own impressive wings and leaped into the air, and she would't have made it were it not for a stiff sea breeze that caught her wings and sent her up into the air. The two dragons flew in the air to try and capture the ghost enough to attack and rid themselves of her presence, but the spirit was just too quick as it dodged their every move. They weren't able to manuever themselves enough to catch sight of the ghost, or at least Verasi wasn't with her lack of flight practice as she wavered in the air every time she had to redirect herself, but the ghost seemed unphased. Were it not for the chance of hitting either Verasi or Scarux, Bade was getting ready to strike the ghost down herself, and Vitus was aiming with his cannons trying to find the right vantage point, but the Mismagius appeared in the air as a force of power thrust outwards from around her, and there was a scream and a grunt as Scarux and Verasi were knocked out of the air. The wave of energy washed over them all, and the force was enough to push Vitu's strong form back a few feet, but Finn braced himself to try and take the hit, though in the moment he heard Verasi's shrieks of falling through the air, he felt himself grow cold and the energy pushed right through him. He groaned and grit his teeth as he struggled to breathe then, feeling the pain of something going through his intangible form, though looked out to the open air to find Verasi still struggling to right herself from being knocked out of her flight path.
"Bade," Finn coughed, struggling to stand then as he had to kneel to the ground on one knee, and with Vitus standing there beside him now the wyvern pushed off from the ground to get Verasi before she hit the water. Vitus was standing strong still and the turtle took his chance at a clear shot before firing with his cannons at the Mismagius to get the ghost's attention. He glowered as his attack struck, landing an effective hit, but the spirit wavered only a moment before her form flickered again, sparking and crackling with energy before she struck down on him with a terrible force of electricity, and Finn felt himself grow cold again at feeling the static in the air around him and hearing the horrid sound of electricity sparking through the air.
"Vitus, get rid of her," Finn seethed, trying to keep himself together as he heard Bade's wings moving closer then, Verasi clutched in her talons after saving the dragon from hitting the ocean waves below, and Scarux wavered in the air now after righting himself, waiting for his open opportunity to strike back. Vitus took aim with his cannons once more, the electricity doing little to phase him as he fired again, striking the Mismagius in the air.  The wicked Mismagius let out a shrill cry of pain as she was knocked away again by the pulse of energy. She whirled backwards through the air and disappeared within the treeline. All was silent, but the darkness remained in the skies. It only took a moment for the Mismagius to regain her strength as shadows began to pool together once more in front of the group. The shadows began to solidify and grow upwards. And grow and grow. The witch began to grow as the cloths that made up her person began to grow and stretch keeping contact with the shadows on the ground, She continued to grow taller until she towered over the group, at least those that weren't in the air. The cloth began to writhe angrily around her as she seemed to hiss aggressively as she leered down at her prey. "Clearly... I'm out numbered." She seethed, taking a moment to leer up at one of the harbingers of death from under the mangled brim of her hat. She wasn't afraid of her, she had been around her kind before, but she reported to someone she believed that was above her. She peered back down at the human and the rest of the Pokemon she towered over. "How about I even the playing field?" She spoke holding out her clothed arms as she focused in on the Pokemon that attacked her. She slowly began to start chanting as her body began to ripple around her. "revertetur retro diebus, ait sum" She began to chant and repeat over and over. The trees and area around them began to wrap and distort as she chanted. As she gazed into the Blastoise, the shadows from within her clothed body began to out stretch towards Vitus, coiling around his strong lets. The shadows began to grow up and around the tortoise. She cackled as she watched her work closely, and continued to chant. If any dared to attack, she'd unleash more forces of energy to keep their attacks at bay and knock them back the best she could, but her focus stayed on the large gray Pokemon. She only stopped as the shadows had completely engulfed the Pokemon starting out very large, to keep the large Pokemon enclosed, but soon the shadows began to shrink, and it didn't stop... It continued to shrink far past the regular size of Vitus, continuing smaller and smaller until it stopped just below a foot across. The shadows melted away revealing a rather small Squirtle. "And that was just child's play. I can do much worse if you dare stand in my way of what I desire. Even with your little... Bodyguard here." She hissed at Bade. "Enjoy your curse." She looked down to her human, who was still struggling on the ground after having the ghost's power move through him, and she knew that the electricity that the ghost harbored wasn't helping matters any more. It was almost as though the ghost knew how to target them, Phineas specifically because of his aversion to ghosts and spirits, and the knowledge that electricity was what killed him, and that Vitus was only able to take on so much electricity. Verasi moved forward on the ground though to come towards Finn on the ground, leaning her head under one of his arms to try and help him up from his kneeling when Vitus struck again at the ghost to try and get rid of her, sending her over the tree line in the distance with his cannons. Scarux watched from the air, watching the ghost disappear through the leaves and branches, and for a moment he too thought the attack might have been over as he wavered in the air, coming back down towards the ground.
"Her power still lingers here," Bade hissed with sharp blue eyes as the wyvern looked around, trying to find the Mismagius to put an end to this attack.
"What did we do to piss her off," Scarux growled, his tail sweeping along the ground on the edge of the cliff face, wondering if the ghost was going to come back.
"Aye, what reason does the witch have for targeting us Bade," Finn seethed, supporting himself against Verasi's figure as he struggled to keep a hold of himself, feeling his skin go between icy death and back again from the attack the ghost had given.
"Some spirits are just malevolent beings that feel as though they've been spurned by the world, and try to enact their own revenge," Bade returned, unable to recognize the spirit at all to know what might have happened in her living time, but what the wyvern said was true no matter if she knew the spirit or not. Some beings in their afterlife became spiteful and ruthless, and it seemed that this Mismagius had so many misgivings about the world she had left behind.
"It's not through yet, look," Vitus glowered, looking out to the trees where he had knocked away the Mismagius with his cannons, and from the cover of the trees along the ground, a slithering black form was moving towards them along the grass. It was a mess of shadows, converging before them now in a mass of darkness and energy wrought with anguish and benevolence, and it only continued to grow and amass before them as the shadows formed together.
"Finny, what's happening," Verasi growled, standing up straighter as Finn moved beside her, coming to face the ghost that was appearing before them. From the darkness her piercing yellow eyes shown as her form began to come through, the old rags of her physical form stretching and tearing as she seemed to be a part of the darkness that flooded from her, bound by it and whatever force that she was working with to gain this power. The spirit glared down at them all though, towering over them with her shadow form and her cloak secreting the power that she was sure to use on them, though Finn could wager that he had a power on his side the ghost was ill prepared for.
"You are out numbered. Now leave this place," Bade hissed again, standing over Finn and his few Pokemon as she looked down at the ghost with her sharp blue eyes. The ghost paid no heed to Bade's credible threat as she glared down upon Finn and his Pokemon again, her wicked eyes landing on Vitus as she began to change in an ancient language, one that even Finn didn't know from his years of seasoned travel.
"No, you will not harm the living this way," Bade shrieked as a mess of shadows moved swiftly over the ground to entangle Vitus' legs, and the turtle roared as he began to struggle around the force that began to consume him.
"Devil take you you damned witch," Finn shouted as he rushed forward with both cutlass in hand, trying to rid Vitus of the shadows and forces that were starting to consume him. Verasi and Scarux both roared as they rose into the air, ready to attack the ghost who dared threaten one of their own. The two dragons held fire in their throats as they readied their attacks, but the ghost was far from willing to let her power go to waste as a swarm of shadows and streams of darkness rose into the air to match, striking and whipping at any who dared get close. Bade moved with her strong wings, shrieking again with her cry as she started to beat her wings with a power that did nothing to the likes of Verasi and Scarux, but emanated into the esoteric plane to strike the spirit. On the ground, the shadows still consumed Vitus' large figure as the turtle fought, trying to use his weight and his strong arms to propel himself forward out of the hold that the darkness had on him. He struggled, and Finn was trying in vain to use his swords to free Vitus' figure, but it seemed to be of no use. He felt himself growing cold then as Vitus' form began to still, and the turtle was unable to get free from the darkness, and his swords fell from his hands as his body left the physical plane once again.
"Phineas," Vitus groaned as the shadows had taken his cannon in and were starting to constrict his neck.
"No, Vitus, you won't take him," Finn cursed up to the witch, though Bade's power was starting to break through the Mismagius' control, starting to break her down from the shadows she lofted over. Finn wasn't going to have it though, Bade wasn't going to break the ghost's power in time, and with little forethought on how else to react, he reached forward and tried to bring Vitus out himself, and was shocked when he actually made contact with the darkness, the shadows that were consuming him. Having left most of the physical plane behind in that moment, Finn was making contact with those forces that existed outside of the physical world, and was actually tearing the shadows away with his own two hands, but it was too late as Vitus gave one last breath before he was consumed entirely, and the witch cackled and shrieked above them.
"You will pay greatly for your treachery here," Bade seethed as she came down hard on the ground beneath her talons and swept with one enormous wing through the darkness that flooded from the Mismagius' rags, but cutting off the power that consumed Vitus did little to stop what the witch had intended as Finn watched in horror as the shadows began to shrink and constrict around Vitus' trapped figure until he thought nothing would be left. He was certain the witch meant to take Vitus' life, drain him entirely of his living force until there was nothing left, but the shadows stopped finally before he thought Vitus would have been gone completely, but as they melted away there was only a small black Squirtle in their wake, and the witch cackled again above them as Bade took another swipe with her powerful wing. With a threat and a grudge it seemed now that the spirit new Bade was determined to put the spirit in her place, the Mismagius fled into the shadows surely before Bade got a hold of her entirely, leaving them as Finn stared down incredulously at the small Squirtle that laid there on the ground. The Professor handed Grae a Pokeball with an Oshawott in it as well as a Pokedex, potions, and Pokeballs, asking if they needed anything else from her. “No, I believe that is all that I need to begin my journey. Thank you so much,” Grae responded and bowed before exiting the lab. Upon exiting, Grae released the Oshawott from its Pokeball so that they could all meet it. “Hello, friend! We shall be traveling together from now on. I hope we can become close! These are my other friends, Kazuno and Cei. Please, say hello, you two.” Kazuno gave a humble bow to greet the Oshawott while Cei grinned and said hello to the new Pokemon. To Grae’s surprise, the Oshawott bowed back in greeting. “Now, you simply need a name. Hmmm…” Grae paused to think for a moment, noticing the noble air the Oshawott held itself with, “I believe the name Fumitaka would be a great fit for you.” The Oshawott gave a slight nod in agreement. “Now, I believe we should look around town before we head onto the next one,” Grae said before realizing it was already nearly midday, “But first, after the long trip here, I believe it is time we find ourselves something to eat. Let’s ask around to see what is a good place for lunch.” Grae and their Pokemon looked around for someone to ask regarding a place for a meal. They saw a young couple walking in the distance arm-in-arm and approached them. “Excuse me, I am new to this town and was wondering where a good place to eat would be. My Pokemon and I are hungry for a delicious meal.” The slightly taller of the two ladies began to speak first, “Oh, yes, there is a place that serves burgers not too far from here called Unova Eats. I quite like the burgers from there.” The shorter and more elegantly dressed lady nudged her significant other and interjected, “Dear, as you can see by the way they are dressed, I don’t think a monk would want to eat a burger even if the place serves good food. I would recommend this classy restaurant that serves vegetarian food near the shore. It has a great view of the ocean and is sort of a hidden gem of Nuvema Town. It is called NuVeggie Town. I know the name is a bit odd, but I assure you the food is delicious!” “Ah! Those both sound lovely, but yes, the NuVeggie Town recommendation does sound better due to my status as a monk. How would I get to it from here?” “Ah, yes, I remember that place. It seemed like we were always there when you were on that diet I didn’t think you needed,” The taller lady said to the other, “If I remember correctly, it is just down this road and to the right when you get to the coast. Also, sorry, I didn’t think much about your clothing when I made the recommendation.” The shorter lady nodded and smiled, please by her girlfriend’s memory and apology. “Oh, no need to apologize. I am sure I could have found something at the place you recommended anyway. Thank you both for your help!” Grae responded before waving goodbye to the couple.

Grae and their Pokemon walked down the street and turned right at its end just as was instructed, eventually reaching the vegetarian restaurant NuVeggie Town. The place was a small restaurant nestled between other shops of similar size. When Grae and their Pokemon walked in, they were greeted by welcoming workers. “Welcome in! Please, sit where you’d like!” Grae found a seat next to one of the windows and sat down with their Pokemon. A server came and handed them a menu shortly afterward. “Is this your all’s first time here? You don’t look like you are from around here.” The young male server said to Grae. “Yes, this is our first time here. What would you recommend off the menu?” “Well, I personally find our cheese crusted veggie patties to be rather delicious. For a medium-sized party as yourselves, you all should be satisfied with a large order of those. Alternatively, you all could order a large pizza with up to 4 toppings of your choice.” “Those veggie patties sound delicious. We’ll take a large order of that, please! Also, could we get a pitcher of water as well?” “Why certainly! I shall bring your water out to you momentarily followed by your food later.” The server walked away to fetch the water and came back to drop it off, along with some cups and a bowl before stepping away again. Grae gave some water to their Pokemon before serving some for themself. “I wonder what we will see on our adventure. I am sure it will be fun no matter what with you all here.” Grae said aloud smiling but not to anyone in particular. “Where are we going to go next?” Cei asked Grae. “I don’t quite know yet. We can take a stroll on the beach then perhaps look around at other sites? I don’t really know much about Nuvema Town, so it will be good to learn. I do think that perhaps we should rest here for the night before we decide to start traveling seeing as it is already around noon. We can go to the next town, which is Accumula Town, tomorrow and go from there.” “That sounds like a good idea. I would love to see the beach. I have never been there before as I used to live in a forest far from the sea. Plus, the monastery was not close to the ocean either,” Cei responded and commented on Grae’s suggestion. “Now that I think about it, I don’t believe I have been to a beach either. I hear they are wonderful places though from what I have read, especially now during the warmer part of the year.” Grae said and was promptly lost in thought thinking of how their parents never really took them to places outside of the Team Plasma base they were born in. “Uh, sir? I mean ma’am! Sorry! Your food is here” The server said, seemingly trying to get Grae’s attention previously, though they did not register it at the time. “Oh, thank you. Also, it is okay, I don’t mind either pronoun you use for me.” Grae smiled back at the young man after snapping back to reality.

The small group ate their food together in peace and without much said between them. Grae gazed out the window and watched the waves move back and forth along the shore. It was beautiful, to them. While they had seen waves on device screens or even small ones in ponds and lakes, these were different and seemed more real than those other ones. For a moment, it felt as if they could stare out forever, lost in a trance. However, they were once again brought back to reality when the food finished and Cei nudged their arm. “Where are we going next?” “Well, once we pay, I thought it might be useful for us to find a X-transceiver shop. It may be useful for us to keep in contact with people we meet even if we can’t use it to contact the monastery.” “Is that one of those things humans use to talk to each other from far away?” “Yes, at least here in the Unova region, they are rather common. I’ll ask the server where the nearest shop is when I pay.” Grae called the server to the table and signaled they were ready to pay for the meal. When he returned to give back the change, Grae asked about the X-transceiver shop. “Ah, yes, there is one close to the outskirts of town near route 1. If you get to the road leading out of town to Accumula Town, you should see it.” “Thank you very much for your help! The food was quite delicious too.” Grae gestured for their Pokemon to leave the table and for them to exit the restaurant as they waved goodbye to the server. Remembering that Professor Juniper’s Lab was also near the road leading out of town, they decided to backtrack as that may be the easiest way to navigate to the device shop. Along the way, Grae was surprised to see how bustling the relatively small town was. Granted, it wasn’t as busy as Oppelucid City tended to be, but there were a surprising amount of people for the small size of the town none-the-less. It didn’t take long for Grae and their Pokemon to get back to Professor Juniper’s lab, from which they saw and followed the road leading out of town until they arrived at the X-transceiver shop.

They all walked into the compact shop which only had a few workers in it and a couple of other customers who were being helped. The free store worker walked up to Grae and welcomed them, introducing herself as Rachel. “How may we assist you all today?” Rachel asked in a kind voice. “I was hoping to purchase a X-transceiver today. It doesn’t have to be too advanced, so perhaps something a bit more utilitarian?” “Ah! We have a basic version of our outdoors model right over here,” Rachel began to reply as she guided Grae and their Pokemon towards one end of the shop, “This one combines the standard functioning of the regular X-transceiver along with increased durability in the form of a waterproof and shock-resistant case. Is this about what you were looking for?” “Actually, yes, that sounds perfect! I would like to get that one.” “Great! If you’d come with me over here, I can check you out, grab one of these models from the back, and activate it for you.” Rachel, Grae, and Grae’s Pokemon moved to a register at the back of the store. After Grae paid for the device, Rachel stepped through a door leading further into the store and returned shortly after with Grae’s new X-transceiver in hand. She fiddled with the device for a bit to get it into functioning mode before handing it to Grae. “Awesome. You are all set to go now with your X-transceiver! Here is the manual and charging cable for it. I did forget to mention that since this is the outdoor model, it can charge via solar panels embedded in its case. Of course, the cable is just in case you need it or cloudy days. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?” “I believe that is all I need. Thank you for your help!” “My pleasure! Have a great day!” Grae and their Pokemon left the store. Grae fiddled with the device for a moment before getting to the map on it. Seeing as it was already mid-afternoon, Grae decided to look for where they may be staying for the night. They found an inn down the road that also happened to have a park near it and decided this would be a good place for them to stay for the night. Rather than tinker with the new device more, Grae put away the X-transceiver and told their Pokemon the plan to head to the inn before they all set out to their next destination.
