 From the northern wilderness all the way down to the southern tip of the region, the Mt. Coronet mountain range divides the entire Sinnoh Region into two halves between east and west. This mountain range is one of the largest in the world with it's highest peak breaking records for one of the highest latitudes in the world. Because the mountain divided the region in two, making for a difficult time with commerce and travel, many of the early settlers of the Sinnoh Region began their work deep within the mountain to where in modern day, an entire series of caves, tunnels, and bridges span through a vast majority of the mountain range to make the region whole. Most peaks of the mountain are so high that they are constantly shrouded in snow, and even more so moving north towards Snowpoint City, and it is at the top of the highest peak where the Spear Pillar remains, impossible to travel to let alone find, but important all the same. The Spear Pillar is said to be the birth place of creation where the world started to take it's real form, though to most it is only a myth as the ruins are said to be shrouded by snow, clouds, and mountain that make it impossible to find.

Elfana Aroway The cave path was a welcome sight compared to Eterna City and the forest near it. Kiro hopped along ahead of his trainer, making sure the path was clear. He did not want a repeat of what happened last time they were in a cave. A Cleffa was an unfortunate victim of the Croagunk's paranoia. The curious pink Pokemon had just wanted to see who was in the cave when it found itself on the receiving end of Kiro's Gunk Shot. Elfana considered cleaning the Fairy Type up and leaving it there. She wasn't interested in training a Cleffa. Leaving it there wouldn't have sat well with her however. The Pokemon was entirely harmless and had only been curious. Their previous bad experience with a cave was in no way the Cleffa's fault. She sighed, tossing a ball in the Cleffa's direction. After it pinged that the Pokemon had been captured she allowed the storage system to take it. It would be healed up and taken care of in the box until she decided to train it. Kiro croaked his frustration at first but soon accepted that the Cleffa was now his trainer's. The nosy thing shouldn't have tried sneaking up on them. Just because it was small and pink didn't mean they could trust it. If anything that made it even shadier. Kiro continued to explore the cave ahead, pausing occasionally to wait for his trainer to watch up. The path seemed mostly clear now. He hoped it would stay that way.

Elfana Aroway By her calculations they were roughly halfway through the cave- assuming what she had just read about it on her phone was anywhere near accurate. She wanted to believe it was. That would mean they were making good time and would be out of the cave in record time. The sooner, the better. Elfana let her thoughts wander as she walked along, trusting Kiro to guide her. She didn't need to pay attention to the path so long as her Croagunk watched it for her. It had only just occurred to her that maybe they had managed to elude her brother's Lucario once more. Saiphe wasn't going to be happy whenever he finally caught up to them. Perhaps she owed him an apology...Probably not. He and Kana were the ones at fault. They had sent her on this journey. She didn't even want to be there. She chuckled to herself, a small, mischievous smirk breaking her bored expression briefly. "Should I be concerned?" Walter knew that look all too well. Elfana was planning something. "Not at all." He should definitely be concerned. She was going to see just how long she could avoid the Lucario for. Her refusal to sleep for longer than three hours at a time and her need to continue on as quickly as possible should be enough to allow her to outpace the Lucario for a while. That didn't feel like enough though. There had to be more she could do. That particular thought became her new topic of interest as they continued on through the cave.

Elfana Aroway The light at the end of the path might have been a welcome sight were it not so damn bright. She stopped near the exit of the cave, giving her eyes a couple of minutes to adjust before exposing herself to the direct sunlight. Her faith in Kiro was well placed. The Croagunk had guided her through the cave without incident. She still hadn't quite put together her plan for what they were going to do when they reached Veilstone but they still had a whole other town to get through before that became an issue. There was more than enough time to come up with a way to mess with her twin and her Lucario shaped babysitter. She was truly enjoying the idea and it showed. The usually apathetic woman looked almost cheerful...Which only concerned Walter further. A cheerful Elfana was a worrying thing. She would refuse to give him any sort of answer if he tried questioning her so he didn't try. After she was sure she could go outside without being blinded, Elfana and her little group left Mt. Coronet, continuing on towards Celestic Town.

Elfana Aroway "I should have found literally any other way to get to Hearthome." She grumbled as she turned down yet another dead end. Had it not been for Liandry lighting her way, Elfana would have been hopelessly lost in Mr. Coronet. She had greatly underestimated the distance between Eterna City and Hearthome City. She wouldn't make the same mistake with her next trip through the mountain. The second trip was still a few days off, which would give her plenty of time to look into finding a proper path. Assuming there was one. They could just expect any trainers going through the mountain to hope for the best. "Which would be incredibly reckless given how many children take the league challenge." So it was very likely she wouldn't find anything on the route to Snowpoint. She assumed very little of the competence of other people. The sun had almost set by the time Elfana finally found her way out of Mt. Coronet. She would end up traveling through the night to make up for how much time she had lost in the mountain.Sinnoh

Elfana Aroway "I could just-" "Nope." "It's really not-" "Nope." "Elfana, stop being-" "Nope." Walter sighed and threw his hands up in defeat. They had been going in circles for over an hour now but Elfana stubbornly refused to allow him to Teleport them through the mountain. Mt. Coronet had become a puzzle for her and she was determined to solve it. "You're a brat sometimes." The Alakazam grumbled but made no move to try to Teleport her without her permission. "You choose to put up with me." She responded as she picked up a rock and placed it in the center of the path they had just come down. Marking up the walls to see which way they had come from was out of the question so she was using what the environment had provided. Unlike some trainers, she had no interest in ruining the caves by damaging the walls. "Arceus knows why." He shook his head but grinned all the same. "No, he clearly doesn't. He couldn't even handle a couple of Ground Types." Fair point. The Alakazam gave a little bow then shrugged. She had won that part of the argument at least. Walter was willing to help the Legendary again if they needed to but that didn't mean he was okay with how things had almost turned out.
Another hour passed before they made anything that resembled progress. Kiro had taken to leading with Liandry. He seemed to be the only one of her Pokemon with any sense of direction. They were no longer going in circles at least. With Kiro's assistance, Liandry was finally able to guide her trainer towards an exit that would lead them towards Snowpoint City.Sinnoh

Elfana Aroway "So wait- you got lost in a cave already?" Saiphe stared at the walls of the cave, which were being illuminated by Liandry's flames. "Yes." Elfana did not know why this required clarification. She disliked having to acknowledge that she had already managed to get lost in a cave. They were doing better this time around so previous cave misadventures did not count! The Lucario frowned and glanced over at Walter. "Why aren't we Teleporting?" The Psychic Type only shrugged in response. He could have Teleported them on through if he really wanted to but Elfana seemed content with walking for the time being. Encouraging an interest in travel seemed like a good idea. The Lucario frowned and went to say something else but was silenced by one of Haruka's paws. The Vulpix had decided his shoulders would act as a decent perch until Elfana was finished adjusting to the bird. His paw only dropped after he was sure the Lucario wouldn't comment on the cave again. He heard enough whining about caves from Elfana. Saiphe did not need to contribute further.

As Cypress approached the looming entrance of Mt. Coronet, the mountain’s dark, yawning maw before her, she was mentally preparing for the climb ahead. Wyatt, her towering Alolan Exeggutor, lumbered at her side, his long neck craning as he scanned their surroundings with a calm, yet watchful gaze. The air grew cooler, and a damp chill lingered in the shadows cast by the towering peaks. Just as she was about to step into the cave's entrance, a small blur of pink shot out from the darkness, startling both her and Wyatt. The figure stumbled and darted erratically, followed by the screeching of several Golbat diving from above. Cypress halted in her tracks, her heart skipping a beat as she recognized the pink blur—a small, terrified Smoochum, fleeing for its life. With a sharp inhale, Cypress sprang into action. She didn't have time to think. Her body moved on instinct, driven by the sight of the tiny Pokémon being mercilessly pursued by the Golbat. The bats, with their wide gaping mouths and sharp fangs, were relentless. They circled overhead, their beady eyes fixed on the Smoochum as if they were about to claim their prize. Cypress's stomach twisted at the thought; a Smoochum that small could be swallowed whole by one of those creatures. Her eyes darted around for anything she could use. On the ground, not far from her, lay a large broken branch—one that had clearly been mighty before time and nature had splintered it. Without hesitation, she grabbed the stick and began swinging it through the air. Her movements were wild, and the branch felt unwieldy in her hands, but that didn't matter. She wasn’t aiming to hit the Golbat—just to scare them off. She shouted, waving the branch frantically as she charged toward the bats. Her voice echoed through the mountains, and her forceful movements sent the Golbat into a state of confusion. The combination of the noise, motion, and Cypress’s unexpected bravery worked like a charm. One by one, the Golbat let out high-pitched shrieks, flapping their wings furiously as they retreated back into the cave, vanishing into the shadows. Cypress glanced over at Wyatt, who watched the entire scene with a mildly amused expression on his face, his leafy head tilted. She rolled her eyes. Wyatt, with his enormous psychic power, could have easily driven the Golbat away with just a thought, but Cypress had acted on instinct, wanting to protect the Smoochum herself. “Well, it worked,” she muttered, tossing the branch aside. She knew Wyatt could have stepped in, but a part of her had felt a need to act on her own—after all, not every problem should be solved by her Pokémon. Looking down, Cypress spotted the Smoochum, who had collapsed onto the ground, her small body trembling. The little Pokémon had tripped during her escape and was now lying in the dirt, looking pitifully up at Cypress with watery, wide eyes. The Smoochum had clearly been through a rough time. Her small body was covered in dust and scs, and it was clear she was far from her natural habitat in the snowy peaks of the mountain range. Moving to kneel beside the small Pokémon, The Smoochum hesitated for a moment, still shaking with fear, but as she looked into Cypress's eyes, something shifted. There was a flicker of trust in those wide, watery eyes, and before Cypress could say anything more, the Smoochum shuffled forward and huddled against her leg for safety, pressing herself into Cypress’s warmth as if seeking protection. Cypress sighed softly, her heart tugging at the sight. "Looks like you’ve had quite the day, huh?" She pulled out a potion from her bag and began gently spraying it over the Smoochum’s scs. The little Pokémon flinched at first, but soon relaxed as the soothing spray took effect. Once the Smoochum was treated, Cypress pulled out an empty Pokéball from her bag and gave it a tired roll of her eyes. "Another one," she muttered under her breath. It seemed she was quickly gaining a reputation for rescuing lost or helpless Pokémon. Of course, she wasn’t planning on keeping the little Ice-type forever. Once she found where the Smoochum’s herd was, she would release her back into the wild, but for now, she needed a safe place to rest. As Cypress stood back up, cradling the Pokéball in her hand, Wyatt's gaze suddenly shifted. His eyes narrowed, his towering form going still, as if sensing something amiss. Cypress followed his gaze to the entrance of Mt. Coronet, and there, hovering just in front of the cave’s entrance, was a floating letter. She hadn’t noticed it at first, distracted by the commotion with the Smoochum and Golbat, but now it was impossible to ignore. The letter floated in the air, weightless and eerie, its edges glowing faintly with a soft, unnatural light.

Psychic and Ghost Pokémon could be behind this strange phenomenon, but even for her, this was a bizarre sight. Floating letters weren't exactly common, and it set her on edge. She glanced back at Wyatt, her towering Alolan Exeggutor, who stood a few feet behind her. His usual nonchalance was apparent; he raised one of his thick brows, his body waving in what she interpreted as a shrug. Cypress huffed in response, skeptical, but gingerly reached out and plucked the envelope from the air. The parchment felt strangely cool and heavy in her hand as she turned it over, inspecting the wax seal—deep red, intricately pressed with a symbol she didn't recognize. With a faint frown, she broke the seal, the crackling sound unnerving in the eerie silence. She unfolded the letter, her expression souring as she read through its contents. "This is so corny," she muttered aloud, wrinkling her nose. The letter was a dramatic challenge, filled with theatrical threats about mastering shadows and facing one's deepest fears. "Some 'Master of Shadows' wants us to accept his challenge of fears," Cypress sighed, her voice tinged with disbelief as she raised her gaze to meet Wyatt's. Wyatt ed his head slightly, his towering form swaying a little as if thinking, then asked, "What time of the year is it? Halloween?" Cypress blinked, caught off guard by the question. In all the chaos, the battles, and the recovery from her previous ordeals, she'd completely lost track of time. Had it really slipped by that fast? She laughed, shaking her head. "Honestly, I have no idea. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was," she admitted, tossing the letter aside. "I don't care either way—this just sounds stupid." With that, she crumpled the letter in her hand and tossed it over her shoulder, ready to leave the absurdity behind. But before she could take more than a few steps toward the dark cave entrance ahead, a loud, resounding 'thud' echoed from behind her—a sound like a tree crashing down. The solid reverberation sent her heart racing. Cypress whipped around, her breath catching in her throat as her eyes landed on Wyatt, now lying flat on the ground, unconscious. The massive Exeggutor, usually so sturdy, had fallen without a word or warning. Panic surged through her veins as she took in a sharp breath, immediately sprinting toward him. But before she could reach his side, the ground beneath her seemed to shift, her vision darkening rapidly. She stumbled, feeling the sudden, unsettling sensation of plummeting into nothingness.
