 Deep within the mountains that make up the most of Northern Melemele Island, one of the most notable locations known as the Verdant Cavern can be found. No one has ever been exactly certain of how the Verdant Cavern came to be, whether by natural causes or the Pokemon that have lived there over generations, but it is still one of the most naturally beautiful places on the island. Verdant Cavern is as its name suggests, a cavern within the mountains, but what makes it so unique is its size. A series of small dirt bridges, ledges, rocky mounds, and plenty of burrows from the Pokemon that live here, make up the inside of the cavern. The Pokemon here can get territorial, so it's best to watch for any burrows or holes in the ground to make sure one doesn't get to close.  {Verdant Cavern Gym (Click)}Ilima is the Trial Captain of Melemele Island's Verdant Cavern. He specializes in Normal-type Pokémon. Ilima is a graduate of the Trainers' School on Route 1 just outside of Ikki Town, and is admired as a hero by the students there. Some call him the "Prince of the Trainers' School". While he typically acts polite and dignified, he becomes a very different person in the midst of Pokémon battles, usually making him fairly difficult to beat with his main team. Ilima is polite, though he has been seen as a charming amongst those woman around his age, not only for his looks but also for his respectful attitude. Rumors often spread, By young students at the school, about him being a prodigy, saying he was able to open and wake a Komala, or get a snorlax to share it's food. He is honest at the fact that this isn't true, though he finds it amusing. Ilima, despite being on the younger side, he has spent quite a bit of time studying Pokemon and how to battle, and before living in Alola, he studied and went to school in Kalos. He spends a lot of his time at the Trainer's School, aiding and assisting the teachers there, and even subbing in when needed. When he's not here he can be found in the Shopping District over in Hau'oli City, on a date, or even in the Verdant Cavern with the Pokemon there. Once Alola began to start it's own Pokemon League, As a Trial Captain, the job was his, how ever he made the Verdant Cavern his gym. He refused to allow any construction be made to the Cavern. He insisted that it remain exactly as it was for the Pokemon there, as well at the history of the cavern. In doing so, The Cavern was kept and protected as it always was. After defeating the Totem Pokemon here, The trainers will have to walk through the caverns to find his battle field. Some have even had to go as far as to heal and as the Totem Pokemon for help and to guide them to where he battles in the large grassy tunnels. Once they find there way into a large open area, they would have to walk up a pathway and into a large open area, where the cave opens up to the skies. The Battle field is circular, and completely naturally grown. It's rocky walls are covered in grass, trees, and other greens. For the most part the field is flat and fairly versatile for battling. There is no place for people to watch, aside form maybe a few travel partners unlike most gyms in other regions. The Trainer lead the way into the cave without the tiniest hint of fear or concern. He walked in with two Pokemon beside him to find that the cavern was somehow lit by a natural light. Was everything in Alola beautiful at all times? It seemed that way. "Hello?" He called, his voice echoing through the caverns. He thought he heard movement to the right path, and went after the noise at once. He wasn't worried about wild Pokemon, Lady was more than a match for anything in here.
Eventually he found himself into a somewhat larger antechamber. He glanced all around but could see nothing. However, he could hear something. He could feel something. If he wasn't mistaken, the sound of a large creature's breath and the slight movements it made while trying to be stealthy. He was instantly on edge, high alert, hackles raised. "Who's there." Because someone definitely was. "Show yourself, face me like a-" like a what? When it moved forward into view he had no idea. that thing was... it was larger than anything he'd seen.
He didn't even have to wonder what was going on for long. Before he could toss out an order to Lady, his own white knight was on the move. He dashed forward on feet that were nearly a blur, jumping up off the wall to get up to the behemoth's face. He slashed once, and that was it. the sword had slain the monster in one foul swoop. It crashed into the opposite wall and lay there breathing heavily but unable to get back up. "I have a feeling if we go that way-" He pointed in the direction the giant Pokemon had come from. "-we'll find something real interesting."
Whatever had caused this Pokemon to grow so large might have been an external source. If he found it, maybe his Sirfetch'd or another Pokemon could get a power boost as well. They carried on until they came to a place where the cavern stretched up to an open sky. He could see the full moon overhead. "Very interesting." A voice surprised Thomas and Lady alike. "Keeping late hours I see. Alright, let's have a battle and see what you got." Unable to tell if he was humble or arrrogant, Thomas glanced to Sirfetch'd. "You've done so well so far, want to keep going?"
Sirfetch'd nodded. "Very good!" Ilima said, smiling. He sent out Yungoos. Sirfetch'd was about to take the field when something odd happened. Deoxys released itself from it's Pokeball and without warning blasted Yungoos off the field and into the cave wall.
Lady made to move forward and take care of this insult to the institution of battling. Thomas held up a hand. "Wait. Let's see this." With the first part of the battle over in seconds, Thomas wanted to know what this creature was capable of. Ilima clearly lost his composure for a moment, but recovered and sent out a Smeargle. "That thing's quick, so hit it with Ember before it can get going." He warned his Pokemon. Smeargle shot an Ember that hit Deoxys in the shoulder.
Oddly enough it went straight through. Thomas was staring at a hole in his Pokemon's shoulder, which morphed closed ans though it had never been there at all. When Smeargle started rapid firig Embers, Deoxys flew up and landed just behind the Gym Leader's Pokemon. Smeargle had blinked and missed the movement, so was now looking left and right for the enemy. The alien screeched furiously and shot a deadly devastating Focus Blast at point blank range into Smeargle's spine. TL;DR

gravity_resistant  Leader IlimaIlima let out a gasp and shielded his eyes as the bizarre Pokémon blasted his at point blank range. When the pink haired trainer looked back up, he wasn't shocked to see that his Smergle was defeated. He silently returned his Pokémon as he was flooded with an array of questions and emotions. He had been upset that a trainer coming in with that Pokemon and his galarian Pokémon, he was far past the first level gym badge. It was fairly clear to the expert trainer he was despite being the first gym. But His curiosity and need to learn from this rare Pokémon was battling his anger. He made his way across the field, opening and closing his mouth once or twice as he was still baffled, and wore an expression what was unsure of how to react. He didn't know much about the alien but being a Pokémon Scholar he had seen and learned about it from what happened in LaRousse City, but only just the reports. But it was clear this was a different Deoxys then that. When he met with the opposing trainer, he couldn't resist but walk right up to the legendary. "Where did you find this magnificent creature?" He questioned his tone full of curiosity and wonder, however he seemed to snap out of it and look back towards the male that seemed to be about his own age. He moved away from the Legendary and towards the trainer. Ilima was fairly intellegant so it was clear to him that the male was a seasoned trainer, Mega Gardevoir, and Sirfetch'd, there was no mistake in that. However the violent nature of the Pokémon bothered the Gym Leader. "It's clear you aren't a new trainer, that's for sure. But you might need to take more time with this...Very interesting Pokemon." He commented, seeming to almost lose focus in thought before quickly returning back. "before continuing with it in the league." He advised, however it was intended to be genuine. He didn't want the Gym Battles to get out of hand when they got tougher and someone to really get hurt. That being said, The handsome gym leader reached into both pockets and pulled out a stamp in one hand, and a matching badge in the other. Ready to help either kind of trainer he would be. "It goes without saying, but you've defeated my challenge and have earned my stamp." He explained with a nod, holding out ready for either the challenger wanted.Thomas has received: TM49 Echoed Voice +32 to Deoxys

"It kinda latched onto Lady's powers and brought itself to life." He rummaged around in his bag for a moment before pulling out the three different colored stones. "These were all around it." Clearly he had no idea what they were. It was also clear that despite how his Pokemon battled, he wasn't a bad guy - at least not now. In fact, he hadn't had any say in Deoxys being involved at all. The Pokemon had made that decision for him.
"I'll try and work with it." He eyed the Pokemon over mistrustfully. "It is really spectacular, one-of-a-kind I think. I just have no idea how to work with it." Thomas eyed the offered rewards and looked visibly confused. "What's the difference? I've only ever been offered Gym Badges before." He explained. -BACKPACK-

gravity_resistant Leader IlimaIlima's negative feelings about the battle seemed to fizzle away as the trainer began to explain how he found the yellow Pokémon. They had apparently just met each other, which Ilima found interesting. The pink haired Trial Captain listened to the male, but drifted towards the alien at hand, getting a closer look at his gem, seemingly unafraid of the powerful alien. "Interesting, I suppose the gem could have if it were a meteorite or a comet." He purposed with a hand holding his chin as he thought out loud. He looked towards the Gardevoir and then back towards the Alien. "Hmm... I suppose that could make sense with Gardevoir's natural cosmic powers. Do you remember anything on how you got here?" He thought out loud, having learned quite a bit about Gardevoir. But his attention turned back to the Alien, asking it directly. The stones were fairly interesting. The Trial captain looked to the extra stones then back to Deoxys. "Well, they certainly aren't other aliens like him at least. Maybe if you give it the stones, it will know what to do if anything?" Ilima theorized. The stones were different from on his chest so he could assume they weren't other Deoxys needing revival. Thankfully. Maybe they were just space debris... Without time to study he wouldn't be able to figure it out. However his attention was turned back to his position. "Oh!" He exclaimed moving back to the trainer. "Maybe you could study it and see how to communicate." He offered, he wasn't sure if other Pokémon would be able to communicate with it, seeing that it was from space.. But back to the task at hand as he held out the stamper and badge. The male had questioned the difference, so he was new to Alola at least. "Well, Originally our league we give out stamps for those who complete our Gym Trials. Those starting here would be given a password to collect our stamps in. However once we opened up our League to the world we adapted a badge option." He explained to him, remembering the opening disaster that he unfortunately wasn't at to help out.

Mocha Leader IlimaAs quickly as the battle was initiated it was over. Ilima had a surprised look on his face, It wasn't every day he was defeated, as well as this was on the quicker side. But he was also surprised he had gotten to battle a Grimbit."That was quite a battle!" Ilima complimented as he made his way towards the young woman. "And I must say, it's not every day I get to see a Pokemon such as this in person." He added with a friendly smile. Clearly not at all bothered he had been defeated by her. He didn't hide the fact he was admiring the Pokemon, but made sure to no actually get too close to the Pokemon. He looked to the trainer that had challenged him, she hadn't said much to him but she clearly was a fierce battler and that was all that mattered. The Verdant Cavern was, like the name suggested, a cavern. But a lot bigger than she expected - and prettier too. Sure, it took her awfully long time to get there, but it seemed like it was worthy in the end. Not just for the views, but the trial itself too. Although, she wondered how it was going to work or how to even find Ilima - since there were no gym trainers or any set direction, looking for the leader might take her longer than the fight itself.
Remembering the warnings and not wanting to waste more time by fighting agitated wild Pokemons, she avoided all and every burrows, knowing that some species lived in those and were rather territorial. Clarissa wasn't expecting, however, so see some dark, fluffy shape fighting some Alolan Rattata. With an annoyed groan she recognized the Pokemon as Zoroark and then she also spotted her trainer, Senna. She was hoping to not see the other girl again, especially not the same day, but apparently she wasn't so lucky. Well, she didn't want to run ahead and face the leader before her, if that was the case, but she didn't want to bother being nice either.
Once Zoroark stopped fighting, she approached them and asked from the get-go. "Are you there to challenge Ilima too?"
Senna jolted, clearly startled by her sudden appearance and straightforward question, but she then straightened herself back.
"No. I already have his stamp." the girl responded, putting her hair behind the ear. "Besides, it's a free region and I can go wherever I want."
Clarissa grumbled something under her nose. The girl was right and she hated to admit it. Instead, she could use this knowledge. "You know where he is, though?"
The brunette eyed her for a moment, while her Pokemon groomed her fur slowly and carefully. It didn't seem all that tired from the 'fight', and even a little bored.
"Find the trial Pokemon, first. It's a Yungoos, a bit bigger than the rest." Senna eventually replied, nodding at the slope leading to the higher parts of the cavern. "It should be on the higher parts of the cavern. Ilima won't fight you without beating it first, even if you do find him."
That wasn't an answer Clarissa wanted, but she will have to work with it. Whether she wanted or not. "Your pretty smile is a monster, and your beauty is empty"

"I see you staring in your mirror, what will it take for you to see" * Clarissa Hyde *
Unhappily, she climbed the slope, leading to the higher parts of the cavern. She was telling herself that she didn't need help nor any advice, but she was still.. kind of lost here. And in the meantime, she shuffled her PokeBalls around and picked a decent team for the battle - or at least she thoughts so. Two higher leveled Pokemons, and four lower, just to take on the weaker trial Pokemon and one belonging to Iliama. Clarissa was of course saving the stronger ones for later, to properly beat him, and until then, she didn't want to tire them with weak opponents.
Still, looking for the trial Pokemon was a chore. It was just some stupid Yungoos, but there were plenty of them - all looking the same. Senna said this one was supposed to be a bit bigger, right? But how can she really tell the difference. That wasn't a case a moment later, when she spotted one in particular, coming out of their burrow - and there was a weird aura surrounding them, indicating that it wasn't an ordinary Yungoos. But how strong could it really be?
Without any hesitation, Clarissa send out her Galarian Rapidash, to deal with it. Her Pokemon flicked her ears as if questioning her, and she just rolled her eyes. "Just fight it, or else we won't find the leader."
"If you say so." Fleur responded simply and then her horn began glowing. Before Yungoos could react, she lunged forward and slashed at it with a 'blade' made out of psychic energy. Thankfully it didn't do that much damage, but it was enough to defeat the opponent - at the very least.
Although the trial Pokemon was defeated, it didn't faint and instead shook its body, before running towards some bushes. Clarissa was ready to shrug it off, but Fleur instead followed it and moved away some lianas, revealing that it wasn't a wall or narrow burrow behind it, but a opening of a tunnel. She looked behind for a moment, as if looking for Senna, before shrugging and moving forward. It seemed like she didn't need her help after all.

"I see you staring in your mirror, what will it take for you to see" * Clarissa Hyde *
She cringed, as she followed the Yungoos deeper into the caves. It was rather dark and almost claustrophobic, even though she was never the one for such fear - but it was an unknown place for her, and she was following a wild Pokemon no less. But after several minutes of walking, the air got lighter and she could even see faint light at the end. Normally, it wouldn't be (probably) a good thing to see one at the end of a tunnel, but here it was a welcome change. The trial Pokemon sped up and then disappeared ahead of her, but Clarissa didn't feel like running after it - they were going the same direction anyways, and maybe that way the leader will come quickly, just in time for her to arrive.
Eventually, Clarissa found herself in a vast open area, with a huge opening in the ceiling, revealing outside world. The battlefield itself wasn't impressive - although naturally grown, flat and versatile, it was really plain. Obviously, it wasn't quite a 'gym' and the leader probably refused to make changes to the environment, but it still looked rather poor and made Rissa feel somewhat disappointed. But as she came closer, she noticed greenery at the opposite side of the field move and then a man walked through them, accompanied by the trial Yungoos.
Well, she was used to hear her classmates and friends sigh and talk about Ilima and how pretty he was, but it wasn't quite her cup of tea. Her mother really soured interest in men for her and even talking about them. But now she could kind of understand and see why he was so popular - even from a distance, she could tell he was kind of handsome.
Still, not really her cup of tea.
"Greeting, challenger!" the man called from his side of the field. "Welcome to the Verdant Cavern 'gym', I'm Ilima, the trial captain."
"Yeah, well, I know that." she muttered, rolling her eyes slightly. Do all gym leaders do that? It sounds a bit redundant.. and she hoped he didn't heard her. "There is no more tests or trials before we finally fight, right?"
"After you defeat the trial Yungoos, the only battle left is against me." Ilima replied calmly, implying that he hadn't heard her offhand comment. Thankfully. "And if you win, you won't have to worry about rematching for a long while."
Clarissa didn't like his use of 'if' - of course she is going to win! How hard could it really be?
"Alright, let us begin then." she waved her hand dismissively so, hoping that it will go smoothly and fast.
"A little impatient, aren't we?" Ilima sounded rather amused with her behavior and tone, which made her a bit annoyed. "But as you wish. Yungoos!"
And here she was hoping for something more original, than that. She just fought one to get there - were all gym leaders just so unoriginal? No matter, it probably meant the fight will be really easy.
"Angel, begin!" as a test, she Clarissa send out her starter, to open the battle. Her Pokemon flapped her wings, sending some leaves and dirt flying, and then folded them back, keeping a keen eye on her opponent. The tip of Yungoos' tail twitched, but he himself made no move or showed any particular emotion,
Which one of them is supposed to start this? She wasn't sure if there was a rule or not.. she never fought against other trainer. But she didn't want to give Ilima an upper hand early on. "Open with Dual Wingbeat!"
"Counter with Sand Attack!" now that was bizarre. Sand Attack wasn't an offensive move, let alone impressive. Angel flapped her wings with fervor, sending two wind 'blades' towards her opponent, who casually threw some sand at her. The wind precisely passed through it, but didn't disperse it completely - just as Dual Wingbeat hit Yungoos, his own move landed right on Rowlet's eyes, blinding her temporarily.
"Angel, quick, Dual Wingbeat again!" Clarissa ordered and Angel was doing a fine job at preparing the attack, but when she shot it, Yungoos casually dodged it and the wind 'blade' weren't even anywhere near to hit it. "What-?"
"You shouldn't disregard status moves, even something so simple." the gym leader pointed out calmly, which made her a bit angry. That was pointless and a time waste! But she couldn't just ignore the effect on her Pokemon, after all. "Use Tackle!"
Yungoos didn't hesitate and lunged at Rowlet, who was still busy rubbing her eyes and knocked her down to the ground. At least the actual offensive attack was rather weak, but it still hurt her pride that this pathetic excuse of a status move and damaging move managed to hit her Pokemon. Afterwards, they separated again, but Angel was just as annoyed as her trainer felt.
"Ugh, come on Angel! Dual Wingbeat, one more time!" she ordered harshly, not wanting to give Ilima a moment to say his order first. She knew he will do it anyway, but Rowlet had an upper hand in speed, apparently, and she wanted to keep it that way. But this time Angel managed to flap her wings furiously like before, sending 'blades' of wind at her opponent. And before Ilima could open his mouth, it reached his Pokemon and successfully put him down for good. There was a short pause, as if they all waited for Yungoos to get up, but he didn't. "Finally!"
"That wasn't so bad. But the battle isn't over." the man hummed, as he withdrew his Pokemon. Well, she knew that - gym leaders shouldn't have only one Pokemon! But she didn't know what Ilima could have in his sleeve, now. "Smeargle!"
Rissa happened to know Smeargles - they were commonly used by painters and artists, including her tutors. They looked a bit silly and unimpressive, but they did posses an attack that could shift the whole battle around - Sketch. It allowed them to learn and use any attack in the world, as long their opponent used it last, letting them copy it.
With that it mind, she needed a bit different approach. "Angel, attack with Grassy Glide!"
"Use Sketch!" this time Ilima's Pokemon outspeeded her, unfortunately, and thanks to Sketch, he copied her last attack - which was Dual Wingbeat. And just as he finished mimicking it and putting it in his moveset, Rowlet's own attack missed him by a whole lot - and Smeargle wasn't even trying to dodge her. But it put her in very unfortunate position - Dual Wingbeat was super effective on Rowlet, and a stable, decent move either way.
Clarissa grit her teeth, realizing her mistake. She knew Angel would want to fight, but she didn't want to be humiliated and having a Pokemon faint in a first gym. "Angel, come back! Elaine, get in there!"
Dratini should be faster, but she also had Extreme Speed, which should give them an advantage.. hopefully. Ilima said nothing about the switch, watching her calmly and his Pokemon only flicked his tail in a 'greeting'. The man's patience was scaring her, actually. "Greet her with Dual Wingbeat!"
Well, that was unfair! But from what she did knew about fighting, is that the opponent always got a free hit on your Pokemon when you switch out mid-battle.. and such, she couldn't just call him out on that. Even though Smeargle lacked wings, he managed to mimic Rowlet's movement and send 'blades' of wind at Dratini, who barely got her bearings about being outside and on a battlefield.
"Alright Elaine, now use Extreme Speed!" she ordered the moment her Pokemon regained composure. Clarissa knew now her Pokemon will be faster and land a hit.
"Dual Wingbeat again!" the gym leader retorted, as calmly as before, and watched as Dratini shot forward at near light-speed, knocking Smeargle hard backward. But that wasn't enough to make leader's Pokemon faint, however, and he used the cooldown before Elaine could get away from him to hit her with Dual Wingbeat up close. And to Clarissa's surprise, the second hit was enough to make Dratini recoil back and faint, rather dramatically. "Seems like your Pokemon is down, challenger."
So, she did all that to prevent Angel from fainting, only to have another Pokemon faint.. great. That was all just completely pointless and she felt like a total fool.. even though thanks to Extreme Speed, Smeargle was a bit weaker now.
She used all self-restrains to not snap at her opponent and curse outwardly, and instead took Dratini's PokeBall and another one. "Fine! Come back! Bishop, finish this with Headbutt!"
Clarissa wasn't sure how well will it work, ordering an attack as soon as her Pokemon appears, but she was losing her patience. First gym battle shouldn't take so much time, and she shouldn't had lose one of her Pokemons to leader's own. It wasn't going the way she wanted. And thus, she needed to do everything to turn the battle in her favor again.
Jangmo-o shuffled on his spot, just as he appeared and then pounced at his opponent, to just fulfill his trainer's wish. It went so fast, Ilima had no time to give an order to his Pokemon, who ended up getting tackled down to the ground. Bishop stepped back, getting ready to get attacked, but Smeargle didn't get up afterwards.
She breathed out in relief, letting out some pent up frustration, stress and anger.
"Very well, for your first gym battle." Ilima called, smiling kindly at her. He showed no anger or irritation from losing, which bothered her, in a weird way. "Although, I think you should learn to control your anger, before it gets out of hand."
Rissa huffed, in disbelief. Was she that obvious? "And how is it a problem? It's a battle."
"True. But you seem to lose your temper too easily, when things go south." the main pointed out, as he prepared the badge and some other post-gym stuff. "I can tell by just your tone and body language. Your Pokemons listen to you just fine, and I'm not worried about them.. yet. But other gym leaders might not be as kind with you about it."
When he wasn't looking, she rolled her eyes and grimaced. She didn't really see a problem with it. Also, why should she care - she won and it's all that matters.

He offered her a compliment. Despite her short temper, he couldn't deny her Pokemon's skill already. They were going to be a force to be reckoned with, especially if she quells her temper. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a stamp, and badge, as well as few other items for her. "You have proven you deserved my badge. I can offer you the stamp if you're preferring to go the traditional Alolan path, or a badge. They both work the same." She didn't really pay attention to what Ilima told her afterwards - she just took the goods and left. She already heard enough and didn't need more of that crap. But she still nodded in understanding or something, just to be 'polite' as she accepted the items and then left.
Clarissa still felt good about winning, even though it came at cost of one Pokemon - from a stupid oversight on her sight no less. Maybe if she went with Dratini and Jangmo-o from the start, it would go like that and end up with even better results? Still, it wasn't like she knew exactly what team was Ilima using! Next time she will fix that mistake, and actually learn about leader's team before facing them - to avoid such embarrassments. Although one fainted Pokemon was still better than half of her team, she must give them that.
Even though she didn't like the tunnel trainers had to go through to reach the arena, she walked through it with bigger ease than earlier. At least she knew where she was going now and at the end of it, there was no battle waiting for her. She could always run into a wild Pokemon, though. And, well, Senna was still there.. and Rissa wondered if for her big talk about knowing the world better and having more experience she is actually a strong trainer. Even though she knew where she was going, Clarissa couldn't help but feel a bit unnerved by the tunnel. Even Bishop seemed to share the sentiment, as he was glancing at every shaded corner, as if something was moving in there. She didn't like that and it made her paranoid in return, but she would lie if she said she didn't notice anything unusual. Maybe it was just her nerves talking and the fading adrenaline from the gym battle.. even if it was rather underwhelming anyways.
She was so focused on getting out of there, that she didn't even hear voices in the distance. To be fair, they were still pretty distant and muffled by the noise of nature and wild Pokemons, but she could swear she could distinguish human voices among it all. Well, it seemed like Senna had a company or she was talking to herself.. or her Zoroark. Neither option was good, because she didn't quite want to deal with her right now - a battle in the future would be fine, but not now. Unless the other girl was unavoidable, then Rissa might as well challenge her, why not. Her team needed experience, like Fleur said.
Unfortunately, her attitude changed when she reached the 'hub' part of the cavern - at the bottom, she spotted Senna and that fancy man from few days before. Being sneaky wasn't her strongest trait, even if she was moving graceful and all, but with all the bushes and greenery around, it wasn't all that hard. She returned Bishop to his PokeBall so it will go easier and faster. Rissa still needed to stay low for that, but thankfully, for once she was fine with being on the average-maybe-shorter side than usual. She quietly sneaked towards the ledge leading down and strained her ears to hear the conversation.
"-rather creepy, don't you think?" the girl asked, sounding unusually serious. Unfortunately, Clarissa didn't hear the earlier parts. "I mean.. they paid you for that? How much?"
"It doesn't matter." he replied sharply, although he did sound tired of.. something. Again, she had no much context for this. "What matters is that I'm on a mission and at least I don't want to disappoint my parents."
"For someone with your league experience, you seem to care too much about it." Senna snorted, and she moved a bit closer, to hear them even better now. Now that really caught her attention - from what Eileen told her, Sven only finished fine Alolan trials, and yet what she hears now doesn't fit it. To be honest, her friend did admit that she hadn't heard of him in a while, and such maybe something changed.
The man was silent for a moment, clearly unhappy with the situation and the conversation. He sighed deeply and continued with a bit quieter voice. "Don't get wrong idea.. I still don't want anything to do with her. But hopefully pretending to fulfill the wish should be enough to get them off my back."
"Mhm." Senna murmured something in return. Clarissa was even more confused than ever and she didn't quite like the implications of what could that mean.
"Listen, do I look like I'm going to take advice from a-" before she could hear more, she must had accidentally stepped on some Pokemon's tail, because she heard a squeal and then a dark shape pounced at her.
She gasped as she fell backwards and hastily tossed a PokeBall containing one of her Pokemons at it, sending out Felix somehow. Axew didn't seem too happy about it but dutifully fought the Alolan Rattata. "Your pretty smile is a monster, and your beauty is empty"

Afterwards, she looked over to see if the other two noticed the commotion, but apparently they were too occupied with the conversation to pay attention. Or maybe they weren't all that loud, actually. Clarissa fixed her position and brushed dirt off her dress, before moving further. Now, she didn't quite care about being sneaky, as she heard already a lot - so she might as well reveal herself. She just wants to do that with style, rather than being spooked by a wild Pokemon!
She walked down the slope, onto the lower area with her head high, and Axew by her side. But then the man turned to her, giving her strict and unimpressed look. "Are you done making a fool of yourself?"
His tone and choice of words made her stop abruptly, processing what he just said to her. But once she did, Rissa narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms, defiantly. "Excuse you? What did you just said to me?"
Unfazed, he snorted. "You think we are deaf? I'm surprised your stomping in the bushes didn't attract more Pokemons."
She gritted her teeth and glanced at the other girl for support, but Senna was only looking at the man, quite obviously not paying her attention. Rude. "I was not stomping. Also, it's none of your business."
Sven looked like he was going to say something, but then bit his tongue. It took a moment to him to let it go, and scowled. "If you are going to act like some novice, then you will be treated as some novice."
Senna gave him an almost sympathetic look and it made her both confused and infuriated. He didn't deserve sympathy for what he was saying to her!
"I'm not just 'some novice'! I have already a full team and a badge!" Rissa spat furiously, clearly offended by his words. And the lack of support from Senna - she deserved it more than he did, clearly! "A novice wouldn't achieve so much in one day."
The man gave her an angry but tired look, and just shook his head. Without saying anything else, he turned away and walked towards the Cavern's exit. That surprised her in a way, as she was expecting him to argue more - but maybe he just silently admitted defeat?

Still seething, she watched Sven leave and then turned to face Senna. "How dare you agreeing with him?!"
The girl didn't even flinch, despite the sudden and accusatory tone, which made Clarissa a bit surprised but also more angry. At least she could pretend to care - besides, she watched the whole thing unfold before her eyes and didn't stop him.
"I'm not?" Senna said, narrowing her eyes. She was clearly not taking it as serious as she should. "I think you both are acting too much."
She crossed her arms defiantly, glaring at her. It wasn't her fault he was acting like a such jerk, and yet Senna is blaming her. "So you are siding with him."
"You know what? I don't care." Senna shook her head and then gave her a harsh, strict look. One that doesn't invite an argument. "It's your and his problem, don't drag me into this. Not my circus, not my fucking Aipoms."
Clarissa chewed her lip, wanting to argue with her and ask what does she even mean by that, but the intensity in the girl's eyes made her hesitate actually. Still, she found that very offending - by refusing to take a side, she was ultimately siding with Sven, obviously. "Do you even know him?"
"Do you?" she retorted back, keeping that sharp look on her face. Oh how badly Rissa wanted to slap her for daring to look at her like that.
"Apparently he is my friend's older cousin. And for five finished trials he sure does think highly of himself!" she shrugged and rolled her eyes. Just because he have four more badges than her didn't meant he was any better.
"Your friend doesn't know him that well, do they?" Senna replied after a short pause, sounding a bit surprised. And then she snorted, before adding with a sly grin. "Well, he does have five Alolan trials done. And all Kantonian badges, with two Elite Four members beaten."
Now that was completely unexpected. She stared at her for few heartbeats, swallowing the information. Well.. she will surely get there eventually too! Not a big deal. Not at all. With already big team of high level Pokemons she will reach that high in no time!
"Wait what? And how do you know that?" Clarissa asked back, trying to mask her uneasiness. Regardless, that meant Sven wasn't a joke and could easily beat her up if she really pissed him off. But then what was stopping her from getting revenge?
"I'm from Kanto and I do care about the world beyond my own nose." Senna waved her hand nonchalantly, as if it was obvious and meant anything. "And to answer your question, I don't know him too well. We met a few times before, when he was in Celadon."
She couldn't imagine herself so casually know someone of such power and then not use it for her advantage. Now it will be rather impossible, but the other girl had that chance and seemingly wasted it. "Your pretty smile is a monster, and your beauty is empty"

The 'conversation' fell silent and the girl looked like she was going to leave, when Clarissa remembered what else she wanted to do. It might not be the greatest time, right after the gym battle and an argument, but since they were here.. she might as well go with her plan.
"How about we fight?" she asked, catching girl's attention back. She kept her head high, despite all. "I want to see if you are any good, if you act like you know everything."
Senna paused, clearly thinking about it. But was there a need for it? Who would ever turn down a battle request? Only a complete coward would! "Sure, whatever."
She didn't sound as excited for it as Rissa would imagine, but no matter. The girl still withdrew a PokeBall from her bag and then tossed, sending out a Pokemon. But that wasn't a Zoroark, as Clarissa initially thought - the Pokemon was pretty big and green, with a tree growing on its back. It was rather ugly, too, despite being all flowery. But it also looked strong, and experienced in battle, given it's very muscular build.
"That's.." she started, and cringed. She wanted to call it an ugly, horrendous looking thing, but she also didn't want to anger it instantly. "It looks strong."
"Well, you wanted to see if I'm any good, so why would you expect me to hold back?" Senna replied with a snort. Her Pokemon shook its body, along with leaves growing on its 'tree'. "I'm still going to, but that's not the point."
Clarissa wanted to ask what she meant by that, but she just shrugged - it shouldn't be all that hard to beat that thing with a full team.

Unfortunately, the battle didn't go as good as she wanted. Venusaur turned out to be a lot bulkier, faster and stronger than she anticipated - not something she was prepared for. Literally all of her team went down in one or two hits, except for Rowlet. And all because Angel had a priority move! That was all. Weirdly enough Fleur also had Quick Attack, and yet she didn't use it.. well, Clarissa didn't order her to use it, alright, but she would expect Galarian Rapidash to use it anyways! Weren't Pokemons meant to be actually smart?
"Now that was unfair!" she called out angrily, crossing her arms. She barely won, and yet it seemed like her opponent was more victorious - because she managed to defeat almost her whole team with no effort put into it, ultimately embarrassing her. It was now a good thing that Sven left.
"I seriously don't know what the fuck were you expecting." Senna retorted harshly, sounding tired of something and not as proud of victory as she would expect. What she was even tired of? She wasn't the one using her whole team to defeat one Pokemon, she barely did anything here. Rissa was the one doing all the work, and for what? "What, that everyone going easy on you, or else you will throw a tantrum? Get your head out of your ass, or someone will actually hurt you."
"You could have at least warned me!" she spat back, infuriated. Who did Senna think she was to tell her that? She knows nothing about her - she wasn't throwing 'tantrums' like some toddler. She was more dignified than that, and it was clear if someone was actually paying her attention.
"Warned you? Oh, by telling you what moves my Pokemon knows?" her opponent asked sarcastically, clearly amused by her reaction and words. What was so funny about that? It wasn't a crime to ask to be prepared before thrown into a battle like that. "You know that doesn't work, right. And that your opponent doesn't owe you this information?"
In a way, it made sense. But her mother seemed like she knew all about her opponents and was able to predict their actions very well, and Clarissa tried to look for good explanation for it. Surely she must had gotten some information about them beforehand, right? So why couldn't Rissa?
"The only way to find out is by actually fighting and paying attention to your opponent." almost as if she was reading her mind, Senna said. "Nothing in life will be handed to you on a silver platter, and for nothing in return. You either do something yourself or you will get eaten."
Someone with her monetary status isn't the one getting eaten, no way. "Whatever. Are we done?"
The girl looked at her for a heartbeat, as if processing what she said (which wasn't much, so what was to think so long about!) before sighing in somewhat defeat. "I guess."
With that, Senna turned and walked towards the exit of the Cavern. Apparently there was really nothing left to say, which was good in her opinion - no more weird talking down to her about how inexperienced she was and how little she knew. None of it were true, and she will show them. "Your pretty smile is a monster, and your beauty is empty"

Well, she realized that she can't quite revive her team - she had very little Revives and besides, she didn't want to waste them all already. Still filled with annoyance and bitterness, Clarissa kept Rowlet outside to keep her company and they turned towards the exit.
She couldn't help but also feel uneasy, though. Like something was watching her - and it wasn't a local wild Pokemon. Maybe it was related to that weird shadow she saw when going through that tunnel earlier.. but then surely it must been some wild Pokemon, but now she didn't feel like it was one. Well, it surely must been a Pokemon, but not from there, which might or might not be good. She inhaled sharply and kept on moving - she is not getting herself scared of nothing or paranoid. While most of her active team wasn't available to fight, she wasn't completely helpless and she can use the remaining Pokemons to kick someone's ass if she needs to. And she will prove she can deal with problems herself, with no problem!
But the fact outside was getting dark, wasn't helping. Did she really took that much time inside the Verdant Cavern? Surely not.. and yet she couldn't just ignore the sun going down and the sky growing dark. Thankfully she took her bag with her, to the Route 2 Pokemon Center, although she didn't remember why. Hau'oli seemed like better option, due to the harbor - but then again, the boat was delayed and she had nothing better to do. Still, she was hoping to reach the building, before the night falls completely. "Your pretty smile is a monster, and your beauty is empty"
