Julian knew that his best bet lay with Hoothoot, seemingly his strongest Pokemon. He sent out the owl, who stood face-to-face against the Pidgeotto. 'This is where the games end, Kid.' This Gym Leader had some nerve, he seemed to be the same age! 'Pidgeotto, use our secret weapon!' And with that, Pidgeotto shot into the sky, flying up and over itself, flying at Hoothoot like a missile. The Arial Ace hit with quite an impact, nearly knocking the owl into Julian (-50, 0/50). In one hit, this Gym Leader had single-handedly defeated his strongest Pokemon. One by one, this move wiped out Espeon and Umbreon as well. Julian was stunned. Recalling his Pokemon, he didn't bother to see what the Gym Leader had to say before rushing them to the Pokemon Center. He sat there on the seat, thinking while he waited for his Pokemon to be healed. How could he have lost so severely, so soon? He was going to have to step up his game if he wanted to stand a chance of winning when he challenged the Gym again. He didn't realize at first, when Nurse Joy had healed his Pokemon. She just decided to bring them over personally, and he smiled sadly at her before releasing Espeon and Umbreon and leaving the Pokemon Center.

With his spirits dashed, Julian sluggishly made his way back to the open field outside of town. He wasn't quite sure what he would do now, since all of his Pokemon had been defeated so easily. He thought about sending Hoothoot to his Father for some training, even thought about requesting another one of the Pokemon from his home that were already trained. That, along with some serious, hardcore training, was the only way he could beat such a powerful Flying-Type Pokemon.

As it turned out, a training opportunity presented itself to Julian in the form of a wild Water-Type Pokemon. Water wasn't the most effective against Flying, but some Whoopers knew Ground-Type moves. That could certainly come in handy. He sent out his Hoothoot. Whooper was expecting a battle, so shot a blast of water at the owl. Hoothoot retaliated with Hypnosis, followed by two Tackle attacks. With a flick of his wrist, Julian tossed out a Pokeball which swallowed up the Water-Type. It shook three times, and lay still for Julian to approach and claim his prize; a new Pokemon!
He made sure to heal his Pokemon completely before returning to the Pokemon Center.

Thankfully the Pokemon Center calling system used screens, and you were able to speak face to face. Julian read his Father's lips, and he signed replies. 'I'm sorry that you lost. That just shows you how challenging it is, even for normal Trainers. Don't worry though... with tough training, your Pokemon will defeat anyone.' This made Julian smile and feel a little better. He nodded his head. 'My Hoothoot and Whooper aren't trained. Can I send them to you overnight?' He signed. He knew his Father would stay up all night working with them, and would do so happily. He loved training Pokemon.
'Of course... oh yeah, that reminds me. I got a rare Pokemon shipped over from another Region. I've been working with him. He was a tough nut to crack, but I did it.' His Father beamed proudly. 'I'll send him over with your other two Pokemon tomorrow morning.' This sounded fair to Julian, who nodded his head and placed two Pokeballs on the teleporter. They would appear safely back at his home.
The signal disconnected, and Julian stared at the blank screen for a few moments. Which new Pokemon could this possibly be? He hadn't thought to ask his Father before they ended the transmission. He trudged up the stairs, and around the corner to where the Trainers were allowed to stay the night. Umbreon and Espeon were at his side as usual, and fell asleep at his feet.

The next morning, Umbreon and Espeon nudged him awake; there was someone at the door. He trudged over, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes so he could read their lips. 'You have a call.' He nodded, closing the door. Normally choosing to sleep without a shirt, he had to toss one on and grab his backpack. A bit more awake now, he jogged down the stairs with his Eeveelutions hot on his heels. His Father's face lit up the screen, eyes showing how tired he was. 'Hey ready for your surprise Pokemon?' He grinned. 'I'll send him over now.' He nodded his head anxiously.
His Father transferred his two Pokemon back, and he knew they would be fully trained. He also sent over a mystery Pokeball. Julian was ready to test it out, so he rushed out the door and down to the field.

The first Pokemon Julian encountered as a Grass-Type known as Bellsprout. He had seen Bellsprout all of his life, and knew what they were capable of. So, all he could do was cross his fingers as he threw out his mystery Pokeball. When the Pokemon materialized from the glowing energy, Julian observed it carefully. It looked like a moving candle, the tip of it's wick sparking with multiple colors, like a firework. It was quite mesmerizing to look at. So, he had another Fire-Type. That would come in handy for sure, and he had the advantage in this battle!
Bellsprout couldn't out-speed the candle, who shot a burning hot coal of Ember (-60, 10/70). Bellsprout used Vine-Whip, but the candle didn't even seem to notice the attack (-15, 105/120). A second Ember Attack let the Bellsprout sprawled out on the grassy field (-60, 0/70). A Potion fully restored his new friend, and Julian knew he had a new strongest-Pokemon.

A new, set, determined expression crossed his face as he marched down the road and stormed up to the Gym again. There was less wind, so there were fewer gliders about. He recognized those belonging to the Gym Trainer and the Gym Leader instantly. They were a distinct color. Seeing the same challenger who had been floored only the day before, Falkner nodded to Abe, who landed nearby and discarded his glider. 'Didn't you learn your lesson yesterday?' Julian didn't let the words get to him. Without responding, the Gym Trainer glared and sent out his Spearow. The bird recognized Julian, and looked nervous.
Sending out his Hoothoot again, Julian made the sign for his special attack; Hypnosis. It landed on the bird, but Spearow was already in motion going for the peck (-20, 50/70). Hoothoot hesitated, glancing back at Julian. The Trainer nodded and grinned. Hoothoot jumped forward, slamming his head over and over into the unconscious bird (-60, 10/70). Spearow woke up weak, just like before, and pecked the owl in the face (-20, 30/70). Hoothoot let it happen, simply slamming it's head once more into the face of the opposing bird (-20, 0/70). Julian and Hoothoot had won. Julian simply grinned at the Trainer. This time, Julian was grinning as he healed his Hoothoot back to full health.

The Gym Leader landed next to his friend and fellow Trainer, discarding his glider as well. 'I'm not impressed. You beat him last time too. I won't go any easier on you.' Julian thought to himself that he wouldn't have it any other way. He wanted to prove himself worthy of this victory.
Just like before, Falkner sent out Hoothoot. Julian would use the same strategy, out came Cyndaquil. 'Hoothoot, use Tackle!'The owl slammed into Cyndaquil forcefully(-20, 20/40). Cyndaquil retaliated by using Growl, lowering his enemy's attack. Hoothoot used Tackle a second time (-10, 10/40). Cyndaquil was rocking now, drawing the owl in for another attack. When the Hoothoot got close enough, the fire-mouse used a Tackle attack of his own (-20, 90/110). 'Finish this!' A third tackle from Hoothoot left Cyndaquil unconscious (-10, 0/40). (Copy and pasted from my earlier battle. Gym Leader wanted to get Cyndaquil out of the way again.) Just like before, Cyndaquil was unable to battle. The first win went to Falkner.
Whooper was sent out next, and the water-type Pokemon was ready for the battle. Hoothoot was quicker, using Tackle (-20, 50/70). Whooper countered with Water Gun (-30, 60/90). Exchanging tackle (-20, 30/70) and Water Gun attacks (-30, 30/90), the battle was drawing to a close. Both Pokemon were on their last legs, and the next two moves would determine the winner. Both Pokemon attacked at the exact same time, both attacks landed, and they stood there staring each other down for what seemed like ages to the two Pokemon Trainers (-20, 10/70) (-30, 0/90). The bird fell over suddenly, and the victory was Julian's!

Julian knew what was coming next, the powerful Pidgeotto. Julian thought carefully. He sent out his Hoothoot, giving the silent command to use Hypnosis. Just like with the earlier Pokemon, Pidgeotto was already on the move. He flew up and over, slamming into the owl with Arial Ace before passing out (-50, 20/70). Hoothoot used Growl once, but then Julian called his owl off to heal him with a Potion. Pidgeotto woke up, angrily using Arial Ace (-40, 10/70). Hoothoot quickly put the big bird back to bed. Julian used two Potions, fully restoring Hoothoot's health. Again, Pidgeotto woke and used his most powerful move (-40, 20/60) and again Julian used Hypnosis and a Potion. This time, however, he wordlessly ordered the owl to use Peck. This was the first time Hoothoot ever used this attack, and it liked pecking the larger bird's head (-20, 110/130).
Hoothoot used Hypnosis again, and after making sure it was alright with Julian, proceeded to peck the big bird's brains over and over (-80, 30/130). When the Pidgeotto woke, he was going to have one HELL of a headache. However, it was also pissed and ended the battle with a final Arial Ace (-40, 0/70). And with that, the third victory, again, went to Falkner. Julian was prepared this time. He knew the owl was going to be beaten again, his level was just far too low. He had a secret weapon though. He sent out his Litwick into battle, and the surprise on his enemy's face fueled him to drive this home. It didn't distract him that long though, as Pidgeotto hit with another Arial Ace (-40, 80/120). He ordered for the Fire Spin attack. A vortex of fire surrounded the bird. It couldn't even spread it's wings to fly up and over without risking the fine feathers being burnt (-20, 10/30). Knowing it's time was short, barely hanging on, Pidgeotto risked the burn and flew up and hit with another Arial Ace (-40, 40/120). That was all it could handle though, as another Vortex surrounded the bird and left it unconscious on the ground.

Leader FalknerFalkner ran his fingers through his hair after returning his final Pokemon. While it was the second time around for the trainer, he was glad the trainer was able to defeat him without some form of electric type or ice type. "Second time's the charm, huh?" he told the trainer, making a small joke of his own loss. Falkner made it over to the male, and began to dig into his pockets for the rewards that he deserved. Falkner could tell there was something.... Different about this trainer, with out silent he was, and he was clearly signing, so he decided to commend him and offer some advice. "You know, at first I didn't think you would be able to pull through with how some of your Pokemon acted yesterday, but I'm impressed with your connection with your Pokemon. It's only going to get tougher from here on out, so I think you might want to spend some time with your Pokemon before challenging Bugsy. He's young but a pretty tough battler." he offered the trainer as he collected the rewards. Falkner nodded to him, after the rewards were taken, he turned around and walked over to his glider. He picked it up, and then with a running start, Falkner took back off into the skies with the many flying types.Thomas has received: Zephyr Badge TM19 Roost +21 exp split amongst battlers Bonus: +5 exp to entire party x1 TM of your choice.

Rewards and advice tucked neatly away, Julian decided to head back towards the Pokemon Center. There were a few things he wanted to do before leaving town, and this was the place to do it. He took a slow walk back, taking in the sights that this large bustling city had to offer. The adults walked around completing one task or another, children played with their Pokemon in the streets, and wild Pokemon were always playing or getting into some sort of mischief. He could see a Houndour chasing down a Sentret, clearly agitated. The Sentret had a few berries held, and Julian could guess what happened. The smaller Pokemon thought it could get away with the Fire-Type's meal without being seen.
Still, that didn't mean that Sentret deserved to be eaten. He gave a hand sign to Umbreon and Espeon, who both bolted after the Houndour. Working together as a team, they cut him off. Sentret paused to look back, see what the commotion was about, but quickly scampered off when it realized this was it's best chance for escape. Julian calmly walked up behind the Fire-Type, who was facing off against the Eeveelutions. He snapped out a Pokeball, which pulled the Pokemon inside. Shaking once... shaking three times... Julian was waiting with held breath, but the device finally stilled and the lit center button told him that the capture was successful.

He rushed back to the Pokemon Center, new Pokemon and hopefully friend in tow. He went to the PC, calling his Father. 'Oh, hey. How did the battle go?' He saw his Father ask. Julian smiled and nodded his head. 'That candle Pokemon really did the trick.' Julian signed in response. 'I had a question, how many Pokemon can I carry with me?'
His Father didn't hesitate. 'You can have up to six 'party' Pokemon on you, which means those six are the only ones you can use in battle. You can, however, keep 'companion' Pokemon with you. They can't battle, and they won't gain experience, but their company can be nice.' Julian nodded, completely understanding. 'Thank you.' He signed, and cut the feed. He was worried he was going to have to transfer some of his Pokemon away.
Since Umbreon and Espeon were more companion Pokemon anyway, Julian decided to give them the title officially. They never really liked to battle anyway, and just wanted to be there with him.

Well, it was official. Julian Malcolm was the proud owner of a Zephyr Badge. He was one step closer to proving he had what it takes to be a Pokemon Trainer. He was, step by step, showing the world that he was just as good as everyone else. He rose from the PC, stretching. It was about noon, so Julian had a decision to make; did he head to the next town, or stay and train his Pokemon. There was one Pokemon in particular he wanted to add to his team, one that would have made the battle against Falkner so much easier. So, his decision made, he left the Pokemon Center and went back to the field just on the edge of town.
There were Pokemon Trainers everywhere, and they were hunting for Pokemon as well. He wondered to himself just what they were looking for. If he found what he was after, it was every Trainer for themself, because he wasn't about to let anyone get to them first. He ignored all of the Pokemon he found, Umbreon and Espeon successfully scaring off any Pokemon that got too 'big for their britches'. Heading closer to the forest, Julian ventured in. In stark contrast to the busy fields where the Trainers were 'playing it safe', there were only two other Trainers that had the nerve to explore and take the greater risk of stronger Pokemon, of getting lost, of being alone. With Umbreon and Espeon by his side, however, Julian wasn't afraid.
The tree-top canopy overhead let in very little light, despite the sun being at it's highest point. He released Cyndaquil, and let the warm fire from it's back light the way. He also called out Hoothoot, letting the bird hop from tree to tree through their branches. He would provide a good 'eye-in-the-sky', warning of any approaching threats that they couldn't see from the ground. Sure Julian couldn't hear the bird, but his other Pokemon could. That would be enough, they would warn him from there.

Hoothoot called down to the group below, there was a Pokemon ahead in a small clearing. Cyndaquil slowed, staying near Julian's feet rather than venturing ahead. Instead of using Cyndaquil, Julian sent Hoothoot ahead for the attack. This caught the Bellsprout off guard, and Hoothoot had the advantage. Hypnosis, followed by two Peck attacks left the sprout unconscious. This all happened so quickly that Julian doubted the sprout knew what hit it. Julian smiled, his Hoothoot was growing stronger.
Julian hated to admit it, but he didn't think the Pokemon he was looking for was around this area. They must have moved on as a herd, but he'd find them eventually. He knew the direction of the next town, so he used the forest he was in as a shortcut with Hoothoot leading the way, Umbreon and Espeon at his side as guards and guides.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz had not taken well to Julian's suggestion that she train her other Pokemon. Yes, her Ledyba could use some practice, and Rin hadn't been out since she beat that Spinarak this morning. It was Spinarak that made her unwilling to work with the others. She had the fifth ball fitted into the clasps on her waist even though she'd rather forget it was ever occupied. She was glad Julian hadn't noticed it, because she didn't want to talk about what happened or why she didn't want to let Spinarak out. The threat of rain made her unhappy at first, but she was quick to follow Julian once they were both ready. Cherry didn't get to stay out for the threat of rain even though he could cope with the weather condition just fine. With the Cyndaquil returned to the warmth of his ball, Belle got to enjoy the occasional drops of water that only served to hydrate and feed her body. Liz was just happy that the rain wasn't coming down strong yet. "Yeah, I guess I should let Rin get some work in later. She did pretty well this morning. Seemed like she was stronger somehow. It was a huge relief after what that damn Bug did to Cherry." The edge in her voice wouldn't be hard for Julian to pick up even if Noctowl wasn't copying it. Her whole body language was broadcasting that she was upset about her battle this morning. She was also giving off strong signals that she didn't want to talk about it even though it was apparent she needed the release. If Spinarak would just disappear then everything would be fine in her little world. She wouldn't have to dislike her own Pokemon so much. A heavy sigh and she looked over to Julian. "You're right, though. I can't just spend all my time training Cherry. I can't beat anyone with just one ace." She stated with a bit more brightness in her appearance. It still made her unhappy to think about Spinarak, but he could at least be useful if he was going to stay in her team for now. Nobody would trade for a weak Spinarak if they could just get their own.Pack: Rare Candy x9, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry Pokemon Encounter: 7/7 (Encountering Level 7 Hoppip) Trainer Battle: 22/25 Item Posting: (Pecha Berry) 4/12 (Liz will be keeping Spinarak, she is going to go through a period adjusting to having her first captured Bug Pokemon. Julian Malcolm
They walked and talked together. Julian talked to her all about the different types... he knew she wouldn't remember all of it, but it would be a good starting point for her. He wondered whether or not she'd realized by now that he wasn't speaking vocally. It would have to take a very absent-minded person to miss such an obvious detail, but it was possible she was just being polite enough not to ask.
Julian knew a shortcut, actually. He lead her off-trail, and he slipped once on the climb back up to the same trail - just a bit further on, as they'd skipped a good portion of it. Noctowl was fine, able to fly, but the mud on the incline had caught Julian off guard. He mentally cursed some words he shouldn't have known and used a tree branch to hoist himself back to his feet. "The sooner we get to the next City, the better." He sighed and pushed on, leading the way. He was looking forward to visiting a book store he hadn't known was there his first time through Violet City.
Noctowl, Umbreon, and Espeon were Julian's only Pokemon outside of their Pokeball, but the two Eeveelutions had no trouble navigating the woodland trail. They seemed to love the hike actually, and didn't talk once - just enjoying the nice weather. He wondered what was next. Would Liz be ready to take on the first Gym Leader and earn a badge of her own? Would she prefer to train against some wild Pokemon, level them up, catch new Pokemon? He would just have to wait and see.

Elizabeth Morgan It had been a hard journey so far. When Julian wasn't teaching Liz about Types and their differences, they were stumbling through undergrowth or climbing up rough terrain. It made her learning a bit harder, except when Julian found ways to make reference to the Types and their advantages and disadvantages. Noctowl could Fly, which made him unconcerned with the Ground below. That was good to know. She had no idea that Ground Types were completely helpless against Flying Types. Then there was talk about how miserable Noctowl would be here on the ground with them and made reference to the rocks all around that would hurt his feet. It wasn't the best comparison, but it was giving Liz the understanding that Noctowl was weak to Rock attacks even though it stood to her reasoning that they should be pretty hard to hit with one. The trip went on like this for a while, Liz holding her own just fine on the rocky terrain. She had planned to travel with her Pokemon, but the first time Belle stumbled on a hill, Liz called her back. It was very helpful to her that she had Julian distracting her from a growing ache in her body. Too much time walking was no good, and the trail they took was not meant for someone out of shape. The light coming off of Violet City seemed far, but they were a sign that it was closer than she thought. "We made it!" She declared, even knowing they still had to finish trekking that last leg through the woods. "How are you feeling, Julian? Maybe we should sit down for a minute." Her legs were more sore than they should be, but she wasn't going to stop their trip if Julian said he was good to keep going. If he did insist on moving on, then Liz would just start toward Violet City with no clear indication that she herself was tired. Whether it was during their rest, or during the last leg of their walk, a Hoppip would drift from the foliage above and lazily land on the ground in front of the two humans. Liz stared wide-eyed at the little pink creature, looking from the Hoppip to Julian and back. It had to be one of the cutest things she'd ever seen. She wanted it. She also felt it was more important to get to Violet City. It was a turmoil of feelings for Liz, but she realized one thing that had to be important. She needed to train her Pokemon if they were going to battle Falkner. Hoppip would have to be a first victim.
It was a long and uncomfortable process of thought before Liz finally broke down and threw out the only other Pokemon that could do some damage besides Cherry. She didn't call out a name, or even the Pokemon's name, she just threw out Spinarak who looked around confused as if he had no idea what happened since being defeated. Liz and Spinarak were having their first battle together!Pack: Rare Candy x9, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry Pokemon Encounter: 1/7 (Encountering Level 7 Hoppip) Trainer Battle: 23/25 Item Posting: (Pecha Berry) 5/12 (Liz will be keeping Spinarak, she is going to go through a period adjusting to having her first captured Bug Pokemon. Julian Malcolm Julian had been so focused on the path ahead, and reaching the next City before the rain began that he hadn't stopped to think about how tired she may be. "Oh... I'm sorry, of course we can take a break." He looked around, finding a fallen log that he could sit down on. Umbreon and Espeon busied themselves in foraging for berries, but it didn't look like they were having any luck. Noctowl had realized they were stopping, and landed on a tree branch overhead watching them from above like a guardian angel.
That was when the new Pokemon drifted into their clearing on the wind. It landed near Liz. While Julian expected her to use Cyndaquil - as he had a serious type advantage, she sent out a Pokemon he didn't even know she had. "Wait, when did you catch that?" He smiled at her. This was great, she was learning on her own and taking what he knew for her own knowledge. She even remembered when he briefly explained about Poison-Types being strong against Grass-Types.

Elizabeth Morgan Spinarak looked terribly nervous, even knowing he could take on that Hoppip. He fidgeted, making agitated patterns as he skittered from side to side in search of a safe place to run to. Liz seemed similarly distressed. She had only thought of getting Spinarak to grow for her. The very idea of letting Julian find out she had caught this Bug Pokemon hadn't occurred to her until it was too late to take back. "Oh! Uh. Y-yeah. I found it this morning" She stammered, wringing her hands with Spinarak finally electing to hide behind his trainer for lack of a safer hiding spot. She definitely wasn't somebody he wanted to be visible to after their meeting. He was grateful that the "rock" turned out to be a Pokeball. It hurt a lot less. He peered out from behind Liz's leg at Julian, then gave a furtive glance to the Hoppip bouncing around. It was blissfully ignorant of its surroundings, or that it was now in a battle. Liz noticed he was hiding behind her and scowled. "I-i-it's not a big deal. Really! I probably won't even keep it. It's just a Spinara--Hey! Get out there and battle already! What's wrong with you?" Spinarak made a high-pitched squeal of panic and skittered further away from Hoppip and now Liz. He cowered beside a rock, whining at the sound of Liz's irritation. "Would you just Poison it already? It can't be that hard for you! You did worse to Cherry, and you don't even hurt him that much!" She continued, clearly holding Spinarak's actions during his battle with Cherry against the arachnid. It didn't help that she already disliked Bug Pokemon, but the frustration and fear she had felt before just made her more spiteful and blind to her Spinarak's distress. "Go on! Use Poison Sting!"
Spinarak used Poison Sting! It's Super Effective! Sniper! (-50) Hoppip has Fainted! Spinarak gains 5 EXP!
Spinarak was trembling with fear of his trainer and her behavior. With her insistence for Poison Sting, he readily complied if only to make the angry redhead stop shouting at him. With an uncanny accuracy that couldn't just be luck, a single violet needle was spat out at Hoppip. The attack struck the little plant Pokemon squarely between the eyes and the battle was over in that very instant. Spinarak had a talent for battle, but none of the courage he needed to fight. Hoppip began rolling away as a light breeze picked up. Liz chucked a Pokeball one second too late and Hoppip blew away. It would wake up far from here all alone and recovering from the poison Spinarak had hit it with. Liz shouted frustration that she lost the cute Pokemon, but she collected herself and called Spinarak back with a half-hearted "thanks" as her show of gratitude. Given how much she doted on her other Pokemon, it would be pretty clear to Julian that this girl had a big problem with her newest partner, and it wasn't at all Spinarak's fault. Instead of taking care of her Spinarak, Liz turned to Julian with a nervous smile. "S-sorry about that...I really wanted that adorable thing." She said sheepishly. Liz felt it was more important to apologize to Julian for her outburst than give attention to her Spinarak who had just won his first battle and was literally terrified of his own trainer's presence!Pack: Rare Candy x9, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry Pokemon Encounter: 2/7 Trainer Battle: 24/25 Item Posting: (Pecha Berry) 6/12 (Liz will be keeping Spinarak, she is going to go through a period adjusting to having her first captured Bug Pokemon. Julian was completely floored by the sudden difference in his friend. She was treating her Pokemon so horribly, and it honestly made him think of the wicked Team Rocket Operative who had beaten his Growlithe with a steel baton... granted not much, but it was still harsh - the way she was acting towards Spinarak. If he couldn't tell by her facial features contorting angrily, or her body language, Noctowl spoke up telepathically to only him. "The Spinarak is quite terrified, perhaps you should step in..."
That was an idea, but he wasn't sure if it was a good one. The problem was, if he did interfere then she might become very offended. "Uh, Liz..." He began, walking up to her and resting a hand on her arm. "Maybe you should calm down. You're scaring the Pokemon, and if I'm to be honest... me." This wasn't any way to treat someone who is there to help you advance yourself further into your journey. "I don't know what Spinarak did, but it doesn't deserve that." He knelt down and let Spinarak climb up onto his arm.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz was astonished to see Julian standing up for Spinarak. Not that she didn't deserve this, she knew she did under all of that anger, but she felt like she was being betrayed. The look in her eyes told Julian as much. "How could you say that...?" Even as her voice quivered with this upset, Liz's body language was giving clear signals of shame. She was ashamed that it took Julian's insight to realize how scared Spinarak was, and that just made her more upset. Fear and sadness only made her anger grow. "You know what? Fine. YOU keep him!" She snapped at Julian. Spinarak's Pokeball came to her hand easily and she tossed it at Julian while he let Spinarak climb onto his arm. She turned away from the young man and stormed off. "Thanks for all your help!" It was anger that got her walking away, but she couldn't be completely hateful just for a perceived betrayal. She needed to cool off and she would find him. She would spend the rest of the day looking for some fights to relieve her stress. Spinarak was clinging to Julian's arm when Liz snapped, watching his trainer throw his ball at the friendly boy and run off. It made the Spinarak whine again, relaxing flat against Julian's arm in despair. He finally had a trainer and she hated him.
Liz wandered around the outskirts of Violet City in search of some hapless victim to use for an outlet. The man she came upon made her immediately nervous, but that only made her more eager to fight him. Instead of going for a direct conflict like she wanted, she chose to attack like a normal trainer. "Hey! You! Let's battle!" She called to the man. The Punk looked to Liz with a lazy disinterest at first. Then he got an eyeful of his would-be opponent. "Oh yeah? Just like that, huh? Guess I can wreck a newbie's day, yo. But maybe when I win, you come my way, yo." The Punk declared while striking a weird pose. If it hadn't been for the bandana, Liz would have seen the smirk on his face. The anger seemed to offer some level of clarity, though, as Liz only shrugged while tossing out Cherry's Pokeball. "Whatever. You won't win, so I don't have to worry about any of that!" While Spinarak was moping with Julian, Liz was about to get a shocking change of pace in Pokemon Battling. Julian Malcolm
He watched her storm off, not even bothering to recall her Pokemon and take it with her. He was completely stunned by her blatant change in personality. Eyes still staring between the two trees she'd disappeared through, even though he hadn't been able to see her for quite some time. "It's okay, Spinarak... she just needs some time to calm down." He forced a smile at the spider who looked up at him with saddened eyes. Finally, he made up his mind. "Noctowl, find her." He was going to give her quite a talking to. Spinarak climbed up his arm, perching finally on top of his head. Using Noctowl as a sort of compass to find Liz. The games were over, Pokemon weren't something you could be cruel to and throw away just because you don't like them. Liz had captured Spinarak, and she had a duty to either care for it or send it through the PC to her respective Professor.

Elizabeth Morgan Things took a turn for the worse when the Punk sent out his first Pokemon. For being strong against Grass Types, Cherry took no time at all to get beaten. It gave her a quick tutorial in the ways of Leech Seed and the terrible power of a Pokemon with the ability Prankster. After Substitute protected the annoying thing, it poisoned Cherry and waited for time to do its thing. Then it repeated the process against Belle and Astro. "Wait a minute...Rin!? Rin, when did you get so big!?" The Furret looked to her trainer as if she were the one who looked out of place. Rin did her best against Whimsicott, but the Poison effect from Toxic was worse than she could have imagined. Rin's health wore down faster with each turn. "Hang in there Rin! You can beat this!" Liz cried, not sure what to do with her last Pokemon that could turn the tables. It was a lie, ultimately. Whimsicott wasn't even fighting directly yet. The Substitute remained in tact, though certainly in bad shape. Rin attacked the Substitute once more before succumbing to the poison in her body, tearing it apart yet leaving Whimsicott unfazed and fully healed from a quick Rest it took after tossing the defender out there. It made Liz feel helpless. She had picked a fight with the worst possible opponent for her current feelings. It made her miss Spinarak even. It wasn't even to fight this monster. She expected him to fail, and then lose anyway. It felt wrong to let the fight end without having Spinarak here to at least witness it. She felt like watching Liz lose would help him understand that he was better off with a different trainer. The thought certainly made her feel better.
"Hey! Is that really all you got? Come on, that can't be your best shot!" The Punk taunted, shaking his head as it seemed like the battle was already over.
"Your Rin has fainted! Do you want to use your next Pokemon?" Dexter prompted, trying to remind Liz that she still technically had her Spinarak left over. That was just agitating the young woman further. Now she was not only reminded of her missing Pokemon, but her opponent had no reason to believe her when she said she didn't have another. "It isn't here! I sent it away!" She snapped, huffing out angrily and shaking her head.
"Aww, man, for real? You ain't even takin' this serious!" The Punk shouted. He was getting angry himself, feeling like Liz's inexperience and selfishness was really her mocking him. "This is unacceptable! Tell you what, yo! If you send out your last cat and beat my killer awesome Pokemon! I'll straight give you my boy Sylveon!" He declared, making Whimsicott flinch like it had been struck. It clearly didn't appreciate having a member of the team being offered away just like that.
Liz didn't even know what to expect from being offered Sylveon. She even had the wild idea in her head to take offense to the idea. "I would if I had another Pokemon to send out! He's gone! There aren't any others!" She shouted back at the Punk trying to goad her into sending Spinarak into the fight. "It's done! I lose! I'm an even worse trainer than some jackass that bets his own friends away like game chips!" It was infuriating trying to argue with him now. He refused to believe she had only four Pokemon when he hadn't even tried to change out for another one. She had to wonder if there was even a point in arguing with this man.
Spinarak rode along with Julian, perched on his head while he walked through the forest. It was nice to be up this high without climbing a tree. It made Spinarak feel huge. He enjoyed the trip until Noctowl finally gave Julian the target he was after. Liz was just calling back Rin--who was a Furret now--when Julian and Spinarak arrived on the scene. The following argument made it pretty clear that Liz was feeling awful for how she was treating Spinarak. She probably wouldn't change much, but she showed remorse all the same. Spinarak didn't like the idea of fighting Whimsicott, but it sounded like Liz really needed his help. Even with her treatment before, he couldn't help the need to go to his trainer. Unlike Liz, Spinarak valued the partnership they had no matter how short it would ultimately be. When the Punk made a move to approach his trainer, Spinarak couldn't let fear control his actions. Julian would feel a strand of sticky thread on his hair as Spinarak spit a line and used it to swing off of the human's head and toward Liz. It was an awkward display to watch, but he got to look cool on the fourth and final swing. Spinarak let out a loud cry and spat a trail of Poison Sting barbs that interrupted the Punk's approach. The poor bug didn't land so well, but he got back on his feet all the same and bristled at Whimsicott.
"What do you know, yo? Turns out you got another one rarin' to go! Slather that little punk with some Toxic, Whimsicott!" The Punk ordered, making Liz's moment of fear only get worse. It was lucky for Liz that Poison didn't affect Poison Type Pokemon, and Spinarak shook off the venomous goo with only a slimy purple tint to his body now. "Spinarak? You're ok!" The relief in her voice made Spinarak's pride swell, feeling like the greatest Pokemon of all time. "If that's how he wants to do it! Get him back with Poison Sting!" Liz commanded, and Spinarak obeyed after taking a few steps back from Whimsicott for...aiming purposes, yeah. Poisoned barbs pricked Whimsicott and the fluffy Pokemon immediately looked ill from the attack. Spinarak could tell that he hadn't poisoned his opponent, but Liz cried out with glee at the result. He wouldn't tell her if nobody else did.
Round 1: Whimsicott (150/150)used Toxic! But it failed! Spinarak (50/50) used Poison Sting! It's Super Effective! SNIPER! (-80) Whimsicott (70/150)
The two Pokemon squared off and Whimsicott's game plan had to change drastically if it was going to have a chance. Luckily, in spite of his mistake, Whimsicott's trainer was no slouch. "Heh. Now we're talkin'. Time for you to get your feed! Whimsicott, sap 'im dry with Leech Seed!" The seeds flew from Whimsicott's cotton and stuck to Spinarak before each seed began to sprout and dig parasitic barbs into Spinarak. "Quick, Spinarak! Get him with your new move! Infestation, now!" Liz was internally grateful that this trainer was patient enough to let her look through her Pokedex for help. If Leech Seed was going to continuously drain from Spinarak, then she could fight back with Infestation to off set some of that returned health! Even if Poison Sting would have ended it there...Instead, Whimsicott flailed as Spinarak made a sound that the humans couldn't hear that caused smaller bugs to come out of seemingly nowhere and dive into the cottony Pokemon, itching and biting and tickling it awfully.
Round 2: Whimsicott (70/150) used Leech Seed! (+20) (90/150) Spinarak (30/50) used Infestation! (-15) (75/150)
"Hey, Whimsicott, take a nap yo! By the time you wake up from Rest, it'll be a wrap, yo!" If Liz didn't follow through quickly, her opponent was right on the money. Spinarak had no chance without Liz getting her act together. Well, she had already seen Whimsicott react to Poison Sting, Infestation only seemed to agitate it more than hurt it. "Okay, so...if that won't solve the problem...Spinarak! Use Poison Sting again!" She wanted to use all of his moves, but Spinarak was in danger of losing if she kept experimenting. Once more, violet barbs flew out from Spinarak's mouth after Whimsicott fell asleep. After it flinched from the prickling barbs, Whimsicott's expression grew more ill than before, proving it had been Poisoned this time! The bugs continued to swarm over Whimsicott's body, making Liz a bit ill just thinking about how that must feel...
Round 3: Whimsicott (75/150) used Rest! (+75) (150/150) Spinarak (30/50) used Poison Sting! It's Super Effective! SNIPER! (-80) Whimsicott was Poisoned! (-10) (60/150) Infestation continues to harm its target. (-15) (45/150) Leech Seed Drains Spinarak. (-20) (10/50) (+20) (65/150)
Spinarak wobbled on his legs while Whimsicott continued to sleep. That did not work out the way the Punk had intended for it to. "Wait, hold up, no. Whimsicott, bro! You can't go on sleeping right now, yo!" If the Punk had played it cool, Liz might have tried switching tactics again, but now she knew that Whimsicott was done for. And that could only mean that Spinarak's best chance was to keep using the same attack! "You're gonna be ok, Spinarak! Get that Whimsicott! Poison Sting!" Liz shouted, determined to finish it before Whimsicott woke up. One more shot should do it... Whimsicott's body took another pummeling of toxic barbs and then fell limp...Liz thought so, at least.
Round 4: Whimsicott is sleeping! (65/150) Spinarak used Poison Sting! It's Super Effective! SNIPER! (-80) Whimsicott has fainted! Spinarak wins! Spinarak gains 9 EXP!
Liz cheered at Spinarak's success. She had no idea it would work so well against that Fairy Monster called Whimsicott. It also gave her ideas on how to change things for her team in the future, perhaps. "Spinarak! You won! I can't believe you beat him!" Although the fight was officially over, something Liz hadn't expected to happen changed the way things looked. Whimsicott got up, looking sick and stressed, while Spinarak stiffened up from the sudden loss of energy and collapsed. Leech Seed had continued affecting Spinarak, which caused him to faint before the stolen energy woke Whimsicott up. She looked fit to cry, thinking this meant the battle was lost. Whimsicott looked irritated at the way it had been beaten a moment ago, then grew sickly once more as Poison and Infestation ran its course one more time and brought the fluffy Fairy right back to zero. Whimsicott fell flat on its face and both Pokemon lay blacked out. Did she win? Did she lose? Was this a tie? "Huh? Wh-what just happened?" Liz asked, really wishing she hadn't stormed off on Julian now. He would know what this all meant! That just made the tears start flowing. She had treated Spinarak like trash and he came to her side when she needed him. Julian had only ever been supportive of the new trainer and she had the gall to treat him like the bad guy when he took Spinarak's side. "Julian. Spinarak. I'm sorry." Liz murmured to herself. It was up to Noctowl to pick up and relay that thought. She didn't exactly deserve a chance to escape the chewing out Julian was prepared to give her. The Punk didn't know what to do now that his Pokemon was fainted and his opponent was crying. Even with the strange circumstance, the Punk knew he'd been beaten. Game over, he lost. Julian Malcolm
Julian broke through the underbrush, only to feel the sudden lightness that meant Spinarak had left his head. Julian glanced up in time to see Spinarak streaking through the trees like some spider-themed superhero carried by long strands of webbing. He hid behind a nearby bush, observing the battle before him. He didn't want to interfere, this was something that Liz and Spinarak would have to work out on their own terms. He just hoped they could. It seemed a sure thing, too, when Spinarak dropped from above, and beat the enemy Pokemon which had so easily beaten the rest of her team. She had won! Spinarak looked hurt though, those vine-like plants were still growing and enveloping the spider. "Noctowl..." He thought, knowing the link was only between Trainer and Pokemon. "Use your Psychic to get rid of those plants." Noctowl's eyes began to glow, and the budding vines were lifted away and up into the air, before being sent flying at the Trainer's face.
Julian had heard the deal, at least telepathically, between Liz and this punk-Trainer. Whoever this was had offered her a Pokemon, albeit one he wasn't exactly familiar with. Noctowl flew in and landed between Spinarak and the Trainer, just in case he tried to retaliate in one way, shape, or form. That was when Julian strode into the clearing, Noctowl had told him how bad Liz felt about how she'd behaved, and he just didn't have it in him to lecture her as he'd intended. If anything, they would talk - calmly - later. "You promised her something if she won, 'yo'. It's time you held up your end of the bargain." She could have stuck up for herself, but she wouldn't have to in that moment. She was his friend, and he was going to be there for her. Umbreon and Espeon both took a step toward the young punk, baring their teeth threateningly.

Elizabeth Morgan Liz had knelt down to care for her Spinarak. Noctowl's Psychic spared her the need to pull those roots out of Spinarak's body and she cradled the spider Pokemon in her lap instead. She was still crying, having trouble stopping now that the fight was over. She sniffled as Julian situated himself between her and the Punk, offering an awkward "hey!" in greeting to him. It didn't make any sense he was here. What was more, he was protecting her from the Punk if he decided to try and take revenge for her victory. Instead of getting angry, the Punk scoffed at Julian's defensiveness and called back Whimsicott. "Hey, step off, yo! A loss is a loss! I ain't gonna hurt no one, yo! Your girl showed me who's boss!" He chided the boy, folding his arms over his chest. The bravado deflated as he dropped the posture and pulled a Pokeball from his waist. "Maybe I shouldn't have bet my buddy. But who'd have thought I'd suffer a loss this nutty." He knelt down as he released Sylveon from his ball and pat the gaudy creature on the head as soon as he was formed. "Hey Sylveon, I'm sorry little bro. I was gonna teach you first, but it's time to go." The Punk's hard front melted away while Sylveon looked confused and a little worried about what was being said. Instead of the scene getting sad, Sylveon spun around and let out an excited cry. The Punk doffed his bandana and smiled at Liz. "Don't forget my promise, buddy. I'm gonna stomp you at the next Contest! For real! You best remember the name, kids! Skull Grunt Aidan is gonna be all over Johto!" He declared loudly as he bumped his fist against Sylveon's outstretched ribbon, making a goofy pose before turning and leaving with a broad wave. He had to make a quick exit so he wouldn't be seen tearing up.
The spectacle was definitely something to behold, but now Liz had Spinarak in her lap and Sylveon's Pokeball in her hand while the Fairy Type Eeveelution padded up to his new owner. He nudged Liz's arm with his muzzle and gave an encouraging yip as if to calm her with his attention. Liz was no longer crying out loud, but the tears were still flowing and she stared in shocked silence at what had actually happened. Getting Sylveon was surprising enough, but the Punk boy had gone from aggressive and haughty to courteously competitive. Like he had been play acting before. "Wait. I-I won? But Spinarak...He fainted. And Whimsicott got better..." She looked distressed as her understanding of the battle fell apart even further. She couldn't complain about getting out of the date she'd been threatened with before, but had she really earned that? Julian was here now, she could find out. While waiting and hoping for an explanation from Julian, Liz reached out and stroked Sylveon's head after putting his Pokeball down. Now she had to get used to having her own Eeveelution to take care of. Sylveon was eying his "cousin" Pokemon out of his peripheral vision, leering at the pair like they were behaving poorly for their pedigree. If they noticed Sylveon staring he would quickly shut his eyes and turn his nose up at them, a playful smile on his muzzle as he pretended to be enjoying Liz's affection rather than snubbing Umbreon and Espeon. In defense of Sylveon, he had come out to hostility to a man who had taken care of him and nobody here actually knew each other. He was under the impression his new trainer had a real piece of work for a friend. Spinarak was joyfully resting in Liz's lap, taking in the benefits of showing loyalty and determination in the face of danger. If Noctowl was able to hear Spinarak's sleeping thoughts he would be able to work out a very silly-looking picture of Spinarak poised heroically with a lime green cape to show his current opinion of himself.
After Julian explained some things--and probably gave Liz a piece of his mind for before--she would finally get up and return Sylveon to his Ball before he started a fight with the twins. "I'm really sorry for before. I just...don't like Bugs." She looked properly ashamed now, without the anger or acting like a victim. "It's no excuse. I had to chase them away from the crops, so I always thought they were bad. I never thought..." She trailed off, patting Spinarak on the head gently as she carried the spider in her arms. Tears pricked her eyes again, but she didn't start crying this time. "I'm a sorry excuse for a Trainer, and he still came back. What can I do?" She was looking at Julian with a shy smile, hoping that her friend and mentor had some suggestions on how to make up some of her behavior to Spinarak. For now, she was trying to think of a name to give the Bug since all of her Pokemon had nicknames. Treats when he woke up. Maybe a real apology, too. She owed her two boys a lot just for being there for her.Pack: Rare Candy x9, Pokeball x, Potion x, Pokedex, Oran Berry Pokemon Encounter: 5/7 Trainer Battle: 2/25 Item Posting: (Pecha Berry) 9/12 (Liz will be keeping Spinarak, she is going to go through a period adjusting to having her first captured Bug Pokemon.
