 In the northern central part of the Hoenn Region, where the mountains get thick and volcanic activity is possible, there spans for miles upon miles a desert in the midst of the mountain ranges. The Hoenn Desert is a vast expanse of sand, rock, plateaus, canyons, and sand dunes that make up the entirety of this unique ecosystem, and has been a part of the region for longer than most will ever know, but all know of how treacherous it is to try and travel the desert. Sandstorms are frequent over the flatter landscapes of the area, and it is entirely possible for anyone to get horribly lost while traveling through due to heat strain and dehydration, where mirages can make even the most steady of travelers lose their minds. It is highly warned against traveling through this miserable landscape, but there are still those who chose to test their mettle.

UNTIL THE DAY I DIETheir luck would hold out for a third day, and that was when they knew it was time to move on. They were out of food and almost out of water. With their new gear carried by the powerful Rex, Jasper told them to wait down a barely traveled back alley while he went into the Pokemon Center. It had been three days, and on top of that nobody knew what the responsible party for the fire looked like. Apparently judging by the posters offering a reward for any information leading to the capture of the guilty individuals, the damage had been severe but not so bad they couldn't recover and rebuild. In fact, repairs were already in the works aided along by Pokemon befriended through their unusual method of capture.
Jasper went into the Center and had his Pokemon looked over to make sure they were healthy for the travel ahead. While they were being examined, he requested food for the road. Someone disappeared - presumably to the kitchens - and returned a while later with three helpings of rations at the same time that Nurse Joy brought back his Pokemon with a clean bill of health. He pocketed his team and refilled their supplies of water before leaving the building and reuniting with the closest thing Jasper's ever had to friends. Though there was obviously no question that they were subordinates, they were also his first and longest friends. He trusted them and relied on them.
Now that they all had the supplies they needed for whatever mysteries awaited them in the world of Pokemon, the trio started their descent out of town. "Hey, you three!" A voice shouted from behind them. Jasper froze, face falling into a disturbing mask of darkness. Rex and Lucky looked behind them and the news wasn't good. It was a cop. "I need to ask you boys some questions!" He was hurrying over to them, but Jasper broke into a full-out sprint down the hill. His boys scrambled to keep up but they easily left that cop in the dust. He chased them as far as he dared, because whether they realized it or not they were running right into the most dangerous part of the entire Hoenn Region.

Lucky was the first one to realize what it meant - he was the brains of the operation and had done a bit of research on this sort of climate. He'd grown up on Alola and never once suspected he'd actually wind up in a desert. "Jasper? I think you should know-" He began, intent on telling them what they were walking into.
"Not now, dude. I want to make sure we're far away from that fucking place. We can talk later." Jasper said, looking back at the only reason he got through school. Lucky was smart, but he just didn't know when to shut up and let him deal with things. If Jasper would have taken give minutes to think that Lucky's words of caution or wisdom rarely ever lead them wrong, perhaps he would have wised up and listened. Instead they were walking right into a horror of Jasper's own making with no no idea what was in store. Unfortunately whatever might have happened to stop the train-wreck from happening was put on hold. Half an hour later, Jasper found himself wishing that he'd paid attention to what his lackey might have said. They were so deep into the desert now that they were lost. They couldn't even find their way back to where they started because the winds were so strong their footprints had long been erased and they were turned around. Wearing - Default outfit. UNTIL THE DAY I DIE There were new constants in their life. The heat, for starters. It was so direct, so merciless, so hot. They didn't even have a single Water-Type Pokemon to help them through this. Every step they took sapped them of vital strength that would prove crucial for the entire time they were in here. They were all under the normal version and heat version of exhaustion. The only reason they hadn't already run out of water was Lucky reminding them that they didn't know how long they might be lost out here. It could go on forever - it definitely seemed like it did just by looking out at the wasteland of sand and sun.
Suddenly Jasper got an idea. Was it a stupid idea? Who knew. Only time would tell. He grabbed one of his Pokeballs and brought out Sandygast. The small sand spirit looked around excitedly at the endless amount of raw material. Sandygast wasn't sure how it worked, but he had the idea that he could absorb all of it and become a giant Unfortunately that was far beyond his level. If he was a Palossand, maybe he might have pulled it off.
However, the black sand creature could only absorb so much and it seemed to cause him pain if he took on too much. "Alright, quit foolin' around." Jasper said, staring at the Pokemon coldly. "You have work to do. You can move through the desert, through the sand. Find our way out of here." At this point, he didn't even care if they ended up back in Fallarbor Town. They would just go back the other way through the Meteor caverns. "I've seen Sandygast move through sand before, even traveling under the ocean through the ocean floor. get us a way out, then come back and find us." Wearing - Default outfit. Thinking - Not again.. UNTIL THE DAY I DIE Sandygast nodded it's head and sank, disappearing completely from sight, into the desert sand under their feet. He'd become particulate, becoming one with the sand, and flying across the open landscape at extraordinary speeds. He'd left the trainer and his cohorts far behind. The idea occurred to him that he could simply disappear and leave them stranded out there, but two things stopped him from acting on such an idea. The first was that Jasper had a terrible wrath that could terrify anyone or anything, and he might escape and visit that wrath upon the unfaithful Pokemon. The second was that however cruel Jasper could be, there was never a boring moment in his company. He enjoyed the battling, he enjoyed growing stronger, and he enjoyed the excitement.
Meanwhile, hours would pass with nothing to break up the monotony of desert travel for Jasper, Lucky, and Rex. Lucky brought out Tauros for about half an hour so he wouldn't have to walk, but Tauros tired quickly in the heat with it's mane of long hair. The others trekked on in spite of how tired they were. They found themselves as lost as ever and Jasper could only hope Sandygast would be able to find them in this massive desert once it actually did find a way out. He didn't know about old stories, but he felt fairly confident that he himself would not be able to survive out here for forty days and forty nights. As a matter of fact, he felt quite sure he wouldn't survive out here for a second day.
The trio of men climbed to the top of a very tall sand dune with the hopes that once they reached the top, they'd be able to see for miles in any directions. It had been Lucky's idea, so it was Lucky that Jasper vented his anger out on when they discovered the only thing they could see was the approach of a titanic sand storm. By the looks of how large and wide it was, they were going to be hit - there could be no escape for them. It was moving fast across the distance between them, closing the gap second by second. Jasper cussed and bitched at Lucky, who endured it because if he hadn't suggested this then they would have been caught by surprise and might not have survived it.

UNTIL THE DAY I DIE They had maybe minutes to spare before they would be hit by the onslaught of flying sand. Panic was setting in for them, none of them knew the steps to take when it came to surviving this sort of catastrophe. "We are screwed. Oh, oh no, what are we going to do?" Lucky muttered, while Rex dealt with his fear by not dealing with it. He stood with his arms crossed at the top of the hill staring down the oncoming storm without moving a muscle. Jasper and Lucky had returned to the bottom of the hill, hoping the hill itself might break some of the force and damage to come.
"Take it easy." Jasper said, trying to think and needing silence to do so. "Whatever happens, happens." That was so very unlike Jasper, who absolutely hated anything and everything he couldn't control or manipulate in one way or another. He liked things to go his way, and when they were out of his control, he did things like attack that Ranger school or... what he did to that idiot girl's parents. Rex and Lucky didn't hate Katie. In fact, they pitied her. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time, fell for the wrong guy's lies and he implied his will on her. When he couldn't control or manipulate the blonde any longer, he hurt the people she cared about.
It was approaching, now it would be upon them any minute. The way it swept across the land was like some sort of ghost, spectral and eerie. By now they could hear it, and it was far louder than one could have guessed just by looking at it on the horizon. "Everyone get down, pull your shirts over your head." Lucky said, hoping against hope that this - his best guess at what to do - would be the right thing. Rex came sliding down the hill, already removing his shirt and tying close the arm holes and hem. Then he pulled the only open hole down over his head and sat down on his knees. Rex copied this, but Jasper only pulled his head into the shirt like a turtle and huddled in upon himself.

UNTIL THE DAY I DIE The sheer power of the sandstorm was immense from the moment it hit them. Visibility was immediately reduced to zero - when Rex peeked he couldn't see the others despite being feet away from one another. In the short amount of time it took for him to look, he got sand in his eyes so he had to retreat back into his shirt. The sand threatened to not only blow their covers from their faces, but to blow them away. They braced themselves in the sand and had nothing they could do but hope for the best. It was hard to endure, but Jasper wasn't going to give into to some stupid puff of wind. He would rise above this and when the time came he would emerge as strong as ever.
They spent hours there pinned down by the storm. When Jasper came to, he blinked and realized everything was dark. "What... what happened?" He had been half-buried in sand. As he sat up, he brushed away the layer covering him and rubbed sand out of his eyes. That was when he realized that the reason it was dark was because there was some sort of... dome... covering them. "Boys, get up." He stood up and kicked them both. They started stirring. The sound of the sandstorm had disappeared. Jasper approached one side of the dark dome and touched his hand to it. "Sand..." He muttered. Then the dome began to tremble and loose sand started raining down on them.
The dome began to decrease in size and now that there was some sunlight, he could see why it seemed so dark. The sand had been black. "Sandygast!" Jasper grinned at his Pokemon, who returned to it's normal size and looked exhausted and weakened. "You saved us?" The Pokemon nodded it's head and smiled. "I don't know what to say. You did good, kid." Of course he knew what to say, but 'thank you' wasn't exactly in the criminal mastermind's vocabulary. Once they'd established that their belongings were all still there, and they drank some water, Jasper looked back to Saydgast. "Did you find a way out of here?" Sandygast nodded again and started sliding across the desert to the south. "Hey, wait up" Jasper shouted, running after it and the others hot on his tail trying to keep up.

UNTIL THE DAY I DIE The sun was finally beginning it's descent into the horizon, so they had a couple more hours of sunlight left. Fortunately it wouldn't be too strong for them to handle. The desert nights were cold, so they didn't change into those light clothes just yet. They would wear their normal outfits in so that they could keep warm, and change the next morning - assuming they were in here that long. Jasper really hoped Sandygast would be able to get them out of there by morning, but like he thought before it never hurt to be prepared for the worst. Especially where Jasper was concerned.
They made great progress with Sandygast at the lead. They made the most of their couple hours of sunlight and when at last it fell, so did the temperatures. the moon was bright, and you could see every star in the sky, but Jasper was too busy shivering to have much interest in that. Besides, there were places in Alola where you could get the exact same effect. They couldn't move when they were this cold, so their ingenious plans of traveling by nightfall went right down the drain.

He didn't know what sort of Pokemon might be out here in this environment, so the possibility that they were people-eaters was a real threat. If they were to go to sleep out here, would they wake up? If the Pokemon didn't get them, the cold certainly would. Sandygast looked at them all and knew what it had to do. Taking a deep breath, Sandygast took on a large amount of sand from the desert. Stretching itself painfully, it morphed into a giant dome as it had done the first time. As soon as they had warmed up, Jasper sent Rex and Lucky back to a spot ten minutes back where they'd passed a bunch of dead wood sticking out of the sand. They walked out - Sandygast creating a sort of door in it's dome-shaped body for them to pass. They were baclk about half an hour later with plenty of driftwood! He pointed to a pile of branches they'd gathered in the very center of their shelter. Litten agreed, shooting Ember attacks to spark a flame. With a fire between them, they gathered around and warmed their numb hands at the crackling flames. "I don't know what the next Gym Leader will use when it comes to type. That old fart was stronger than I expected. We can't hold our breath for an easy fight from this point forward." That was true enough. Perhaps he would have little trouble with the next one, but the one after that... he knew from overhearing other Trainers in Alola and Hoenn alike that the fifth badge was the hardest one to get by far. Granted those Trainers hadn't yet gone on for their sixth, so their absolute logic may have been a bit flawed. The next day dawned and Sandygast returned to it's normal size. "You've saved our butts out here twice now. If you can get us to Lavaridge Town, you can rest until we have to leave and go back through the Desert to get out of here." Elfana Aroway Hoenn Desert was yet another seemingly endless expanse of nothing. Unfortunately passing through it was the fastest way to the next two towns she needed to visit. Choosing to travel late at night proved to be a good call on her part. She was spared from having to deal with the bright sunlight and the exhausting heat. There was one downside however. The darkness made it difficult to navigate the terrain. As a result she nearly tripped over a Cacnea that she hadn't been able to see. She tried to apologize to the Pokemon for startling it but it hadn't taken kindly to her presence. Trying to defuse the situation was getting her nowhere. In the end she let out her Quilava and had her deal with it. "Heat Wave, Liandry. Go easy on it if you ca-" The Cacnea was hit by a ball of flames and was knocked out in an instant. "Or that." She knelt down and cleaned up its burns. Leaving it in such a state wouldn't have sat well with her. "Good work, Liandry." She patted the Quilava's head after she was done with the Cacnea. They continued on their way from there.

Elfana Aroway Getting through Hoenn Desert without encountering something that wanted to battle was impossible apparently. Elfana had thought her trip was going well enough, all things considered. The sun was obnoxiously bright in the sky so she had avoided upsetting any of the wild Pokemon in the area. She hadn't avoided being spotted by another trainer however. The trainer was a young teenager, probably taking on the Gym challenge like most of the kids his age. She would have ignored his challenge entirely if he hadn't tried to intimidate her with his Pinsir. The Pokemon snapped on her and would have caught her arm if she hadn't moved. She sighed and shook her head. She really wanted to keep moving. This was a waste of her time. "Liandry, deal with it. I'm going to trust your judgement on this one." The Quilava had just stepped in front of her when the kid called for his Pinsir to use Submission. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. Liandry would knock that ego down a few pegs. The Quilava managed to squirm out of the Pinsir's hold and turned, unleashing a spray of flames directly in its face. It tried to swipe at her in response with little effect before it found itself caught in yet another wave of fire. The kid looked annoyed when he returned his Pinsir and sent out a Parasect instead. Elfana actually laughed when he called for it to use Growth. Had he done anything else he might have had a chance to knock out her Quilava. Instead he found himself returning a second burning Bug. Liandry had not been merciful. Elfana picked up her Quilava, checking over her injuries before continuing on her way. She could still hear the kid whining about her cheating even after she had put some distance between the two of them.

Katie Du'Mont♪ My Bartender she's from the islands, her body's been kissed by the sun. Coconut replaces the smell of the bar, and I don't know if it's her or the rum.
Despite having plans to battle Flannery for her fourth Gym Badge, she had to pack up her bags and her plans. Off she went! Changing clothes to something light and breathable, they ventured into the intense heat and endless sands. Buizel couldn't handle the heat, but the intense sunlight was absolutely perfect for Scout and Decidueye. Aipom remained on her shoulders so as not to touch the hot sand, and didn't move much to reserve energy and try to keep as cool as possible. Backpack
